Hall effect in doped Mott insulator: DMFT-approximation

In the framework of dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) we analyze Hall effect in doped Mott insulator as a parent cuprate superconductor. We consider the partial filling (hole doping) of the lower Hubbard band and calculate the dependence of Hall coefficient and Hall number on hole doping, determining the critical concentration for sign change of the Hall coefficient. Significant temperature dependence of Hall effect is noted. A good agreement is demonstrated with concentration dependence of Hall number obtained in experiments in the normal state of YBCO.

Attractive Hubbard Model: Homogeneous Ginzburg - Landau Expansion and Disorder

We derive Ginzburg - Landau (GL) expansion in disordered attractive Hubbard model within the combined Nozieres - Schmitt-Rink and DMFT+Sigma approximation. Restricting ourselves to the case of homogeneous expansion, we analyze disorder dependence of GL expansion coefficients on disorder for the wide range of attractive potentials U, from weak BCS coupling region to the strong coupling limit, where superconductivity is described by Bose - Einstein condensation (BEC) of preformed Cooper pairs. We show, that for the case of semi - elliptic "bare" density of states of conduction band, disorder influence on GL coefficients A and B before quadratic and fourth -- order terms of the order parameter, as well as on the specific heat discontinuity at superconducting transition, is of universal nature at any strength of attractive interaction and is related only to the general widening of the conduction band by disorder. In general, disorder growth increases the values of coefficients A and B, leading either to the suppression of specific heat discontinuity (in the weak coupling limit), or to its significant growth (in the strong coupling region). However, this behavior actually confirms the validity of the generalized Anderson theorem, as disorder dependence of superconducting critical temperature T_c, is also controlled only by disorder widening of conduction band (density of states).

DMFT+Sigma approach to disordered Hubbard model

We briefly review the generalized dynamical mean-field theory DMFT+Sigma treatment of both repulsive and attractive disordered Hubbard models. We examine the general problem of metal-insulator transition and the phase diagram in repulsive case, as well as BCS-BEC crossover region of attractive model, demonstrating certain universality of single - electron properties under disordering in both models. We also discuss and compare the results for the density of states and dynamic conductivity in both repulsive and attractive case and the generalized Anderson theorem behavior for superconducting critical temperature in disordered attractive case. A brief discussion of Ginzburg - Landau coefficients behavior under disordering in BCS-BEC crossover region is also presented.

Normal phase and superconducting instability in attractive Hubbard model: the DMFT(NRG) study

We study the normal (non-superconducting) phase of attractive Hubbard model within dynamical mean field theory (DMFT) using numerical renormalization group (NRG) as impurity solver. Wide range of attractive potentials $U$ is considered, from the weak-coupling limit, where superconducting instability is well described by BCS approximation, up to the strong-coupling region, where superconducting transition is described by Bose-condensation of compact Cooper pairs, which are formed at temperatures much exceeding superconducting transition temperature. We calculate density of states, spectral density and optical conductivity in the normal phase for this wide range of $U$, including the disorder effects. Also we present the results on superconducting instability of the normal state dependence on the attraction strength $U$ and the degree of disorder. Disorder influence on the critical temperature $T_c$ is rather weak, suggesting in fact the validity of Anderson theorem, with the account of the general widening of the conduction band due to disorder.

Electronic structure of two-dimensional hexagonal diselenides: charge density waves and pseudogap behavior

We present theoretical study of electronic structure (spectral functions and Fermi surfaces) for incommensurate pseudogap and charge density wave (CDW) and commensurate CDW phases of quasi two dimensional diselenides 2H-TaSe2 and 2H-NbSe2. Incommensurate pseudogap regime is described within the scenario based on short-range order CDW fluctuations, considered within the static Gaussian random field model. In contrast e.g. to high-Tc cuprates layered dichalcogenides have several different CDW scattering vectors and electronic spectrum with two bands at the Fermi level. To this end we present theoretical background for the description of multiple scattering processes within multiple bands electronic spectrum. Thus obtained theoretical spectral functions and Fermi surfaces are compared with recent ARPES experimental data, demonstrating rather good qualitative agreement.

Generalized dynamical mean-field theory in physics of strongly correlated systems

This review is devoted to generalization of dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT) for strongly correlated electronic systems towards the account of different types of additional interactions, necessary for correct physical description of many experimentally observed phenomena in such systems. As additional interactions we consider: (1) interaction of electrons with antiferromagnetic (or charge) fluctuations of order parameter in high-Tc superconductors leading to the formation of pseudogap state, (2) scattering of electrons on static disorder and its role in general picture of Anderson-Hubbard metal-insulator transition, (3) electron-phonon interaction and corresponding anomalies of electronic spectra in strongly correlated systems. Proposed DMFT+Sigma approach is based on taking into account above mentioned interactions by introducing additional self-energy Sigma (in general momentum dependent) into conventional DMFT scheme and calculated in a self-consistent way within the standard set of DMFT equations. Here we formulate general scheme of calculation of both one-particle (spectral functions and densities of states) and two-particle (optical conductivity) properties. We examine the problem of pseudogap formation, including the Fermi arc formation and partial destruction of the Fermi surface, metal-insulator transition in disordered Anderson-Hubbard model, and general picture of kink formation within electronic spectra in strongly correlated systems. DMFT+Sigma approach is generalized to describe realistic materials with strong electron-electron correlations based on LDA+DMFT method. General scheme of LDA+DMFT method is presented together with some of its applications to real systems. The LDA+DMFT+Sigma approach is employed to modelling of pseudogap state of electron and hole doped high-T_c cuprates. Comparison with variety of ARPES experiments is given.

Iron Based Superconductors: Pnictides versus Chalcogenides

We present a brief review of the present day situation with studies of high-temperature superconductivity in iron pnictides and chalcogenides. Recent discovery of superconductivity with T_c > 30 K in A_xFe_{2-x/2}Se_2 (A=K,Cs,Tl,...) represents the major new step in the development of new concepts in the physics of Fe - based high-temperature superconductors. We compare LDA and ARPES data on the band structure and Fermi surfaces of novel superconductors and those of the previously studied FeAs superconductors, especially isostructural 122 - superconductors like BaFe_2As_2. It appears that electronic structure of new superconductors is rather different from that of FeAs 122 - systems. In particular, no nesting properties of electron and hole - like Fermi surfaces is observed, casting doubts on most popular theoretical schemes of Cooper pairing for these systems. The discovery of Fe vacancies ordering and antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering at pretty high temperatures (T_N> 500 K), much exceeding superconducting T_c makes these systems unique antiferromagnetic superconductors with highest T_N observed up to now. We discuss the role of both vacancies and AFM ordering in transformations of band structure and Fermi surfaces, as well as their importance for superconductivity. In particular, we show that system remains metallic with unfolded Fermi surfaces quite similar to that in paramagnetic state. Superconducting transition temperature T_c of new superconductors is discussed within the general picture of superconductivity in multiple band systems. It is demonstrated that both in FeAs - superconductors and in new FeSe - systems the value of T_c correlates with the value of the total density of states (DOS) at the Fermi level.

Anion height dependence of Tc and density of states in iron based superconductors

Systematic ab initio LDA calculations were performed for all the typical representatives of recently discovered class of iron based high-temperature superconductors: REOFe(As,P) (RE=La,Ce,Nd,Sm,Tb), Ba2Fe2As, (Sr,Ca)FFeAs, Sr4Sc2O6Fe2P2, LiFeAs and Fe(Se,Te). Non-monotonic behavior of total density of states at the Fermi level is observed as a function of anion height relative to Fe layer with maximum at about Dz_a~1.37A, attributed to changing Fe - As (P,Se,Te) hybridization. This leads to a similar dependence of superconducting transition temperature Tc as observed in the experiments. The fit of this dependence to elementary BCS theory produces semiquantitative agreement with experimental data for Tc for the whole class of iron based superconductors. The similar fit to Allen - Dynes formula underestimates Tc in the vicinity of the maximum, signifying the possible importance of non - phonon pairing in this region. These results unambiguously demonstrate that the main effect of Tc variation between different types of iron based superconductors is due to the corresponding variation of the density of states at the Fermi level.

Electronic structure and possible pseudogap behavior in iron based superconductors

Starting from the simplified analytic model of electronic spectrum of iron - pnictogen (chalcogen) high - temperature superconductors close to the Fermi level, we discuss the influence of antiferromagneting (AFM)scattering both for stoichiometric case and the region of possible short - range order AFM fluctuations in doped compounds. Qualitative picture of the evolution of electronic spectrum and Fermi surfaces (FS) for different dopings is presented, with the aim of comparison with existing and future ARPES experiments. Both electron and hole dopings are considered and possible pseudogap behavior connected with partial FS "destruction" is demonstrated, explaining some recent experiments.

Interplay of electron-phonon interaction and strong correlations: DMFT+Sigma approach

We discuss interaction of strongly correlated electrons (described within the Hubbard model solved by dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT)) with Debye and Einstein phonons using recently developed DMFT+Sigma computational scheme. Electron-phonon interaction (EPI) is analyzed in adiabatic approximation (assuming the validity of Migdal theorem), allowing the neglect of EPI vertex corrections. This approach is valid for EPI coupling constant L < e_F/w_ph~10, where e_F is Fermi energy and w_ph is Debye or Einstein frequency. For moderate values of L only small changes in the electronic density of states are observed in DMFT+Sigma approximation for both weakly and strongly correlated metallic regimes. Metal-insulator (Mott) transition due to the increase of Hubbard interaction U is slightly inhibited by EPI. Our main aim is to discuss the interplay of "kinks" in electronic dispersion due to EPI and recently discovered kinks of electronic origin. For the certain region of model parameters coexistence of phonon "kinks" in electronic dispersion with purely electronic "kinks" is readily observed and we formulate some simple criteria of such coexistence. However, for most general combinations of model parameters phonon "kinks" make electronic "kinks" hardly observable. In the general case an increase of Hubbard interaction U rapidly suppresses the slope of electronic dispersion within the phonon "kink". These results are important for deeper understanding of the shape and evolution of electronic dispersions in strongly correlated systems such as copper oxides, where different kinds of "kinks" were recently observed in ARPES experiments.

Pseudogap phase of high-Tc compounds described within the LDA+DMFT+Sigma approach

LDA+DMFT+Sigma_k approach was applied to describe pseudogap phase of several prototype high-Tc compounds e.g. hole doped Bi2212 and LSCO systems and electron doped NCCO and PCCO, demonstrating qualitative difference of the Fermi surfaces (FS) for these systems. Namely for Bi2212 and LSCO the so called "hot-spots" (intersection of a bare FS and AFM Brillouin zone (BZ) boundary), where scattering on pseudogap fluctuations is most intensive were not observed. Instead here we have Fermi arcs with smeared FS close to the BZ boundary. However for NCCO and PCCO "hot-spots" are clearly visible. This qualitative difference is shown to have material specific origin. Good agreement with known ARPES data was demon strated not only for FS maps but also for spectral function maps (quasiparticle bands in cluding lifetime and interaction broadening).

ARPES spectral functions and Fermi surface for La(1.86)Sr(0.14)CuO(4) compared with LDA+DMFT+Sk calculations

Slightly underdoped high-Tc system La(1.86)Sr(0.14)CuO(4) (LSCO) is studied by means of high energy high resolution angular resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and combined computational scheme LDA+DMFT+Sk. Corresponding one band Hubbard model is solved via dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT), while model parameters needed are obtained from first principles within local density approximation (LDA). An "external" k-dependent self-energy Sk describes interaction of correlated electrons with antiferromagnetic (AFM) pseudogap fluctuations. Experimental and theoretical data clearly show "destruction" of the LSCO Fermi surface in the vicinity of the (pi,0) point and formation of "Fermi arcs" in the nodal directions. ARPES energy distribution curves (EDC) as well as momentum distribution curves (MDC) demonstrate deviation of the quasiparticle band from the Fermi level around (pi,0) point. The same behavior of spectral functions follows from theoretical calculations suggesting AFM origin of the pseudogap state.

Multiple Bands - A Key to High - Temperature Superconductivity in Iron Arsenides?

In the framework of four-band model of superconductivity in iron arsenides proposed by Barzykin and Gor'kov we analyze the gap ratios on hole - like and electron - like Fermi - surface cylinders. It is shown that experimentally observed (ARPES) gap ratios can be obtained only within rather strict limits on the values of pairing coupling constants. The difference of T_c values in 1111 and 122 systems is reasonably explained by the relative values of partial densities of states. The multiple bands electronic structure of these systems leads to a significant enhancement of effective pairing coupling constant determining T_c, so that high enough T_c values can be achieved even for the case of rather small intraband and interband pairing interactions.

Two-dimensional Anderson-Hubbard model in DMFT+Sigma approximation

Density of states, dynamic (optical) conductivity and phase diagram of paramagnetic two-dimensional Anderson-Hubbard model with strong correlations and disorder are analyzed within the generalized dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT+Sigma approximation). Strong correlations are accounted by DMFT, while disorder is taken into account via the appropriate generalization of the self-consistent theory of localization. We consider the two-dimensional system with the rectangular "bare" density of states (DOS). The DMFT effective single impurity problem is solved by numerical renormalization group (NRG). Phases of "correlated metal", Mott insulator and correlated Anderson insulator are identified from the evolution of density of states, optical conductivity and localization length, demonstrating both Mott-Hubbard and Anderson metal-insulator transitions in two-dimensional systems of the finite size, allowing us to construct the complete zero-temperature phase diagram of paramagnetic Anderson-Hubbard model. Localization length in our approximation is practically independent of the strength of Hubbard correlations. However, the divergence of localization length in finite size two-dimensional system at small disorder signifies the existence of an effective Anderson transition.

Superconductivity in the "Hot Spots" Model of the Pseudogap State: Impurity Scattering and Phase Diagram

We analyze the anomalies of superconducting state (both s- and d-wave pairing) in the model of the pseudogap state induced by Heisenberg spin fluctuations of antiferromagnetic short-range order, and based on the scenario of strong scattering near the "hot spots" on the Fermi surface. We present microscopic derivation of Ginzburg-Landau expansion, taking into account all Feynman graphs of perturbation theory for electron interaction with fluctuations of short-range order and in the "ladder" approximation for electron scattering by normal (nonmagnetic) impurities. We determine the dependence of superconducting critical temperature T_c and other characteristics of a superconductor on the parameters of the pseudogap and impurity scattering. It is shown that within this model it is possible to explain the typical phase diagram of high- temperature superconductors.
