Itinerant G-type antiferromagnet SrCr2As2 studied by magnetization, heat capacity, electrical resistivity, and NMR measurements

The physical properties of itinerant antiferromagnetic (AFM) SrCr2_2As2_2 with body-centered tetragonal ThCr2_2Si2_2 structure were investigated in single crystalline and polycrystalline forms by electrical resistivity ρρ, heat capacity CpC_{\rm p}, magnetic susceptibility χχ versus temperature~TT and magnetization MM versus applied magnetic field HH isotherm measurements as well as 75^{75}As and 53^{53}Cr nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements in the wide temperature range TT = 1.6--900 K. From the χ(T)χ(T) and 75^{75}As NMR measurements, the G-type AFM state below TNT_{\rm N} = 615(15) K has been determined, consistent with the previous neutron-diffraction measurements. Direct evidence of magnetic ordering of the Cr spins was shown by the observation of the 53^{53}Cr NMR spectrum under HH = 0. From the χ(T)χ(T) measurements on single-crystal SrCr2_2As2_2 under the two different magnetic field directions H∣∣abH||ab and H∣∣cH||c in the AFM state, the Cr ordered moments are shown to align along the cc axis in the G-type AFM state. The metallic state is directly evidenced by the ρρ, CpC_{\rm p}, and NMR measurements, and the density of states at the Fermi energy D(EF){\cal D}(E_{\rm F}) in the AFM state is estimated to be 7.53 states/eV f.u. for both spin directions which is almost twice the bare D(EF){\cal D}(E_{\rm F}) estimated from first-principles calculations, suggesting an enhancement of the conduction-carrier mass by a factor of two in the AFM state. The D(EF){\cal D}(E_{\rm F}) is found to be nearly constant below at least 100 K and is independent of HH. The ρ(T)ρ(T) is found to show TT-linear behavior above TNT_{\rm N} and exhibits positive curvature below TNT_{\rm N} where significant loss of spin-disorder scattering upon magnetic ordering is observed.

Possible unconventional order parameter in single crystals of SrPt3_3P superconductor

Anisotropic properties of single crystals of SrPt3_{3}P were studied using London penetration depth and electrical resistivity measurements. The upper critical field, Hc2(T)H_{c2}(T), was determined from four-probe electrical resistivity measurements for three orthogonal directions of a magnetic field with respect to the crystal. The London penetration depth, λ(T)λ(T), was determined from the magnetic susceptibility of the Meissner-London state measured using a tunnel-diode resonator technique. Whereas Hc2(T)H_{c2}(T) and the normal-state ρ(T)ρ(T) are practically identical for all three magnetic field orientations, the London penetration depth shows significant unidirectional anisotropy. The low-temperature λ(T)λ(T) is exponentially attenuated when a small excitation radiofrequency magnetic field, HrfH_{rf}, is applied along the c"−c"-direction, in which case screening currents flow in the a"b"−a"b"- plane, while for the other two orientations, Hrf∥a"H_{rf}\parallel a" and Hrf∥b"H_{rf}\parallel b", the London penetration depth shows a much weaker, λ(T)∼T2λ(T)\sim T^{2}, variation. Such unusual and contrasting behavior of the two anisotropies, γH(T)=Hc2,ab/Hc2,c=ξab/ξcγ_{H}\left(T\right)=H_{c2,ab}/H_{c2,c}=ξ_{ab}/ξ_{c} and γλ(T)=λc/λabγ_λ\left(T\right)=λ_{c}/λ_{ab}, imposes significant constraints on the possible order parameter. Although our measurements are insufficient to derive conclusively the superconducting gap anisotropy, qualitatively, order parameter with two point nodes and a modulation in the perpendicular direction is consistent with the experimental observations.

Possible unconventional pairing in (Ca,Sr)3(Ir,Rh)4Sn13(\text{Ca,Sr})_{3}(\text{Ir,Rh})_{4}\text{Sn}_{13} superconductors revealed by controlling disorder

We study the evolution of temperature-dependent resistivity with controlled point-like disorder induced by 2.5 MeV electron irradiation in stoichiometric compositions of the "3-4-13" stannides, (Ca,Sr)3(Ir,Rh)4Sn13(\text{Ca,Sr})_{3}(\text{Ir,Rh})_{4}\text{Sn}_{13}.Three of these cubic compounds exhibit a microscopic coexistence of charge-density wave (CDW) order and superconductivity (SC), while Ca3Rh4Sn13\text{Ca}_{3}\text{Rh}_{4}\text{Sn}_{13} does not develop CDW order. As expected, the CDW transition temperature, TCDWT_{\text{CDW}}, is universally suppressed by irradiation in all three compositions. The superconducting transition temperature, TcT_{c}, behaves in a more complex manner. In Sr3Rh4Sn13\text{Sr}_{3}\text{Rh}_{4}\text{Sn}_{13}, it increases initially in a way consistent with a direct competition of CDW and SC, but quickly saturates at higher irradiation doses. In the other three compounds, TcT_{c} is monotonically suppressed by irradiation. The strongest suppression is found in Ca3Rh4Sn13\text{Ca}_{3}\text{Rh}_{4}\text{Sn}_{13}, which does not have CDW order. We further examine this composition by measuring the London penetration depth, λ(T)λ(T), from which we derive the superfluid density. The result unambiguously points to a weak-coupling, full single gap, isotropic superconducting state. Therefore, we must explain two seemingly incompatible experimental observations: a single isotropic superconducting gap and a significant suppression of TcT_{c} by non-magnetic disorder. We conduct a quantitative theoretical analysis based on a generalized Anderson theorem which points to an unconventional multiband s+−s^{+-}-pairing state where the sign of the order parameter is different on one (or a small subset) of the smaller Fermi surface sheets, but remains overall fully-gapped.
