Groups, Jacobi functions and rigged Hilbert spaces

This paper is a contribution to the study of the relations between special functions, Lie algebras and rigged Hilbert spaces. The discrete indices and continuous variables of special functions are in correspondence with the representations of their algebra of symmetry, that induce discrete and continuous bases coexisting on a rigged Hilbert space supporting the representation. Meaningful operators are shown to be continuous on the spaces of test vectors and its dual. Here, the chosen special functions, called "Algebraic Jacobi Functions" are related to the Jacobi polynomials and the Lie algebra is su(2,2). These functions with m and q fixed, also exhibit a su(1,1)-symmetry. Different discrete and continuous bases are introduced. An extension in the spirit of the associated Legendre polynomials and the spherical harmonics is presented introducing the "Jacobi Harmonics" that are a generalization of the spherical harmonics to the three-dimensional hypersphere S^3.

Lie Groups of Jacobi polynomials and Wigner d-matrices

A symmetry $SU(2,2)$ group in terms of ladder operators is presented for the Jacobi polynomials, $J_{n}^{(α,β)}(x)$, and the Wigner $d_j$-matrices where the spins $j=n+(α+β)/2$ integer and half-integer are considered together. A unitary irreducible representation of $SU(2,2)$ is constructed and subgroups of physical interest are discussed. The Universal Enveloping Algebra of $su(2,2)$ also allows to construct group structures $(SU(1,1), SO(3,2), Spin(3,2))$ whose representations separate integers and half-integers values of the spin $j$. Appropriate $L^2$--functions spaces are realized inside the support spaces of all these representations. Operators acting on these $L^2$-functions spaces belong thus to the corresponding Universal Enveloping Algebra.

Jacobi polynomials and SU(2,2)

A ladder structure of operators is presented for the Jacobi polynomials, J_n^(a,b)(x), with parameters n, a and b integers, showing that they are related to the unitary irreducible representation of SU(2,2) with quadratic Casimir C_SU(2,2)=-3/2. As they determine also a base of square-integrable functions, the universal enveloping algebra of su(2,2) is homomorphic to the space of linear operators acting on the L^2 functions defined on (-1,+1) x Z x Z/2.

Algebraic special functions and so(3,2)

A ladder structure of operators is presented for the associated Legendre polynomials and the spherical harmonics showing that both belong to the same irreducible representation of so(3,2). As both are also bases of square-integrable functions, the universal enveloping algebra of so(3,2) is thus shown to be isomorphic to the space of linear operators acting on the L^2 functions defined on (-1,1) x Z and on the sphere S^2, respectively. The presence of a ladder structure is suggested to be the general condition to obtain a Lie algebra representation defining in this way the "algebraic special functions" that are proposed to be the connection between Lie algebras and square-integrable functions so that the space of linear operators on the L^2 functions is isomorphic to the universal enveloping algebra.

Poisson-Hopf limit of quantum algebras

The Poisson-Hopf analogue of an arbitrary quantum algebra U_z(g) is constructed by introducing a one-parameter family of quantizations U_{z,h}(g) depending explicitly on h and by taking the appropriate h -> 0 limit. The q-Poisson analogues of the su(2) algebra are discussed and the novel su_q^P (3) case is introduced. The q-Serre relations are also extended to the Poisson limit. This approach opens the perspective for possible applications of higher rank q-deformed Hopf algebras in semiclassical contexts.

Universal $R$--matrices for non-standard (1+1) quantum groups

A universal quasitriangular $R$--matrix for the non-standard quantum (1+1) Poincaré algebra $U_ziso(1,1)$ is deduced by imposing analyticity in the deformation parameter $z$. A family $g_μ$ of ``quantum graded contractions" of the algebra $U_ziso(1,1)\oplus U_{-z}iso(1,1)$ is obtained; this set of quantum algebras contains as Hopf subalgebras with two primitive translations quantum analogues of the two dimensional Euclidean, Poincaré and Galilei algebras enlarged with dilations. Universal $R$--matrices for these quantum Weyl algebras and their associated quantum groups are constructed.

Identical Particles and Permutation Group

Second quantization is revisited and creation and annihilation operators areshown to be related, on the same footing both to the algebra h(1), and to the superalgebra osp(1|2) that are shown to be both compatible with Bose and Fermi statistics. The two algebras are completely equivalent in the one-mode sector but, because of grading of osp(1|2), differ in the many-particle case. The same scheme is straightforwardly extended to the quantum case h_q(1) and osp_q(1|2).
