Phenomenological Analysis of Charmless Decays B-->PV with QCD Factorization

We study the hadronic charmless two-body B decays to final states involving pseudoscalar and vector mesons with QCD factorization approach, including the contributions from the chirally enhanced power corrections and weak annihilations. The CP-averaged branching ratios and CP-violating asymmetries are given. Most of our results are in agreement with the present measurements, but the branching ratios of some decay channels are only marginally consistent with the experimental observations. Considering the large uncertainties, great advances in both experiment and theory in the near future are strongly expected.

Analysis of D_s-> phi pi beyond naive factorization

We analyze the decay Ds→ϕπD_s\to ϕπ with QCD factorization in the heavy quark limit. The nonfactorizable contributions, including hard spectator contribution are discussed and numerical results are presented. Our predictions on the branching ratio of the decay are in agreement with the experiment. We also use a pure phenomenological method to estimate the branching ratio for Ds→ϕπD_s\to ϕπ with the existed D0→K∗πD^0\to K^{*}π data.

A New Mechanism for B±→η′K±B^{\pm}\to η'K^{\pm} in Perturbative QCD

We present a new mechanism for B±→η′K±B^{\pm}\to η' K^{\pm}, and analyze it strictly within perturbative QCD. We find that such a new mechanism may dominate non-leptonic BB-decays to light mesons. Within a reasonable parameter space, our prediction is in good agreement with the recent CLEO data on B±→η′K±B^{\pm}\to η' K^{\pm}. We conclude that there is no room for an abnormally large \bsg vertex from physics beyond the Standard Model.

CP Violation in Two-Body Hadronic Decays of BcB_c Meson

Using the next-to-leading order low energy effective Hamiltonian, the CP asymmetries for the BcB_{c} meson decays into meson pair are calculated in the spectator approximation. We do not compute the hadronic matrix elements directly, instead, we use the amplitude ratios to estimate the CP asymmetries. This is quite, different from the previous works in the literature. The values of the momentum squared carried by the virtual particles in timelike penguin dirgrams are also carefully discussed. From our calculated results, the best decay modes to observe CP violation in BcB_{c} decays would be Bc−→Dˉ∗0K∗−B_{c}^-\to{\bar D}^{*0}K^{*-}, Dˉ0K∗−{\bar D}^{0}K^{*-}, Dˉ∗0K−{\bar D}^{*0} K^{-}, Dˉ0K−{\bar D}^{0}K^{-} and Bc−→ηcD−B_{c}^-\toη_{c}D^{-}, which need about 10810^8 of Bc±B_{c}^{\pm} events in experiment.

W-exchange and W-annihilation processes of B mesons

Using the PQCD method we calculate the W-exchange and the W-annihilation processes of B mesons, which in general involve a charm quark or anti-quark in the final state. The nonvanishing amplitudes of these processes are found to be suppressed by a factor of mc/mbm_c/m_b compared to the tree or the time-like penguin processes, but some of them are within the reach of observation at the future B-factories, and Bˉd0→Ds+K−\bar B_d^0 \to D^+_s K^- whose branching ratio is found to be 6.6×10−66.6 \times 10^{-6} can be found even before the B-factory era. Comparisons with the results based on the BSW model are also given.

Effect of the Space-like Penguin Diagrams on CP Asymmetries in Exclusive B Decays

The space-like penguin contributions were ignored on little ground in many previous studies of nonleptonic B decays and CP violation. Taking the penguin-dominated channels Bu−→Kˉ0πB^{-} _{u}\rightarrow \bar{K}^{0}π and Bu−→K0K−B^{-}_{u}\rightarrow K^{0} K^{-} for example, we illustrate the non-negligible effects of the space-like penguin diagrams on CP asymmetries. Some quali- tative remarks are given on the gluonic penguin picture and the direct CP violation in exclusive two-body decays of B mesons.

Electroweak Penguin Contributions in B−(Bd0‾)→PPB^-(\overline {B_d^0}) \to PP and PVPV decays Beyond Leading Logarithms

Using the next-to-leading order low energy effective Hamiltonian for ∣ΔB∣=1|ΔB|=1, ΔC=ΔU=0ΔC=ΔU=0 transitions, the contributions of electroweak penguin operators in B−(Bd0‾)→PP B^-(\overline {B_d^0})\rightarrow PP and PVPV decays are estimated in the standard model. We find that, for some channels, the electroweak penguin effects can enhance or reduce the QCD penguin and/or tree level contributions by at least 30%30\%, and can even play dominant role.

A Further Study of CPCP Asymmetries in Pure Penguin-induced Bu±B^{\pm}_{u} Decays

We make a further study of CPCP asymmetries in the pure penguin-induced decay modes Bu−→K(∗)0+K(∗)−B^{-}_{u}\rightarrow K^{(*)0} + K^{(*)-} and Bu−→Kˉ(∗)0+(π−,ρ−,a1−)B^{-}_{u} \rightarrow \bar{K}^{(*)0} + (π^{-}, ρ^{-}, a^{-}_{1}) by using the two-loop renormalization-group-improved effective Hamiltonian and factorization approximation. Different from the previous results obtained without QCD corrections, the CPCP asymmetries in each of the two groups are enhanced and classified with their respective factorization coefficients. A sum over the pure penguin modes of each group is proposed to obtain an effective branching ratio and a {\it weighted-mean} signal of CPCP violation, which should be statistically significant for experimental observation.

Effect of Hairpin Diagram on Two-body Nonleptonic B Decays and CP Violation

A careful quark-diagram analysis shows that a number of two-body nonleptonic BB decays can occur through the so-called hairpin diagram, a QCD loop-induced graph different from penguin in final-state hadronization of valence quarks. Using the two-loop renormalization-group-improved effective Hamiltonian and the naive factorization approximation, we demonstrate the effect of the hairpin diagram on decay rates and CPCP asymmetries for a few interesting channels such as Bd0,Bˉd0→ψKSB^{0}_{d},\bar{B}^{0}_{d} \rightarrow ψK_{S} and Bu±→ϕK±B^{\pm}_{u}\rightarrow ϕK^{\pm}. Branching ratios of some pure hairpin decay modes, e.g., Bu−→ϕπ−,ϕρ−B^{-}_{u}\rightarrow ϕπ^{-},ϕρ^{-} and Bˉd0→ϕπ0,ϕρ0,ϕω,ϕη,\bar{B}^{0}_{d}\rightarrow ϕπ^{0},ϕρ^{0}, ϕω, ϕη, etc., are estimated to be on the order of 10−710^{-7}.
