A flow approach to the Musielak-Orlicz-Gauss image problem

In this paper, the extended Musielak-Orlicz-Gauss image problem is studied. Such a problem aims to characterize the Musielak-Orlicz-Gauss image measure $\widetilde{C}_{G,Ψ,λ}(Ω,\cdot)$ of convex body $Ω$ in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ containing the origin (but the origin is not necessary in its interior). In particular, we provide solutions to the extended Musielak-Orlicz-Gauss image problem based on the study of suitably designed parabolic flows, and by the use of approximation technique (for general measures). Our parabolic flows involve two Musielak-Orlicz functions and hence contain many well-studied curvature flows related to Minkowski type problems as special cases. Our results not only generalize many previously known solutions to the Minkowski type and Gauss image problems, but also provide solutions to those problems in many unsolved cases.

On the $L_p$ Brunn-Minkowski theory and the $L_p$ Minkowski problem for $C$-coconvex sets

Let $C$ be a pointed closed convex cone in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with vertex at the origin $o$ and having nonempty interior. The set $A\subset C$ is $C$-coconvex if the volume of $A$ is finite and $A^{\bullet}=C\setminus A$ is a closed convex set. For $0<p<1$, the $p$-co-sum of $C$-coconvex sets is introduced, and the corresponding $L_p$ Brunn-Minkowski inequality for $C$-coconvex sets is established. We also define the $L_p$ surface area measures, for $0\neq p\in \mathbb{R}$, of certain $C$-coconvex sets, which are critical in deriving a variational formula of the volume of the Wulff shape associated with a family of functions obtained from the $p$-co-sum. This motivates the $L_p$ Minkowski problem aiming to characterize the $L_p$ surface area measures of $C$-coconvex sets. The existence of solutions to the $L_p$ Minkowski problem for all $0\neq p\in \mathbb{R}$ is established. The $L_p$ Minkowski inequality for $0<p<1$ is proved and is used to obtain the uniqueness of the solutions to the $L_p$ Minkowski problem for $0<p<1$. For $p=0$, we introduce $(1-τ)\diamond A_1\oplus_0τ\diamond A_2$, the log-co-sum of two $C$-coconvex sets $A_{1}$ and $A_{2}$ with respect to $τ\in(0, 1)$, and prove the log-Brunn-Minkowski inequality of $C$-coconvex sets. The log-Minkowski inequality is also obtained and is applied to prove the uniqueness of the solutions to the log-Minkowski problem that characterizes the cone-volume measures of $C$-coconvex sets. Our result solves an open problem raised by Schneider in [Schneider, Adv. Math., 332 (2018), pp. 199-219].

On the sine polarity and the $L_p$-sine Blaschke-Santaló inequality

This paper is dedicated to study the sine version of polar bodies and establish the $L_p$-sine Blaschke-Santaló inequality for the $L_p$-sine centroid body. The $L_p$-sine centroid body $Λ_p K$ for a star body $K\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ is a convex body based on the $L_p$-sine transform, and its associated Blaschke-Santaló inequality provides an upper bound for the volume of $Λ_p^{\circ}K$, the polar body of $Λ_p K$, in terms of the volume of $K$. Thus, this inequality can be viewed as the "sine cousin" of the $L_p$ Blaschke-Santaló inequality established by Lutwak and Zhang. As $p\rightarrow \infty$, the limit of $Λ_p^{\circ} K$ becomes the sine polar body $K^{\diamond}$ and hence the $L_p$-sine Blaschke-Santaló inequality reduces to the sine Blaschke-Santaló inequality for the sine polar body. The sine polarity naturally leads to a new class of convex bodies $\mathcal{C}_{e}^n$, which consists of all origin-symmetric convex bodies generated by the intersection of origin-symmetric closed solid cylinders. Many notions in $\mathcal{C}_{e}^n$ are developed, including the cylindrical support function, the supporting cylinder, the cylindrical Gauss image, and the cylindrical hull. Based on these newly introduced notions, the equality conditions of the sine Blaschke-Santaló inequality are settled.

Geometry of log-concave functions: the $L_p$ Asplund sum and the $L_{p}$ Minkowski problem

The aim of this paper is to develop a basic framework of the $L_p$ theory for the geometry of log-concave functions, which can be viewed as a functional "lifting" of the $L_p$ Brunn-Minkowski theory for convex bodies. To fulfill this goal, by combining the $L_p$ Asplund sum of log-concave functions for all $p>1$ and the total mass, we obtain a Prékopa-Leindler type inequality and propose a definition for the first variation of the total mass in the $L_p$ setting. Based on these, we further establish an $L_p$ Minkowski type inequality related to the first variation of the total mass and derive a variational formula which motivates the definition of our $L_p$ surface area measure for log-concave functions. Consequently, the $L_p$ Minkowski problem for log-concave functions, which aims to characterize the $L_p$ surface area measure for log-concave functions, is introduced. The existence of solutions to the $L_p$ Minkowski problem for log-concave functions is obtained for $p>1$ under some mild conditions on the pre-given Borel measures.

Mixed $f$-divergence for multiple pairs of measures

In this paper, the concept of the classical $f$-divergence for a pair of measures is extended to the mixed $f$-divergence for multiple pairs of measures. The mixed $f$-divergence provides a way to measure the difference between multiple pairs of (probability) measures. Properties for the mixed $f$-divergence are established, such as permutation invariance and symmetry in distributions. An Alexandrov-Fenchel type inequality and an isoperimetric inequality for the mixed $f$-divergence are proved.

Orlicz addition for measures and an optimization problem for the $f$-divergence

In this paper, the Orlicz addition of measures is proposed and an interpretation of the $f$-divergence is provided based on a linear Orlicz addition of two measures. Fundamental inequalities, such as, a dual functional Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski inequality, are established. We also investigate an optimization problem for the $f$-divergence and establish functional affine isoperimetric inequalities for the dual functional Orlicz affine and geominimal surface areas of measures.

The Orlicz-Petty bodies

This paper is dedicated to the Orlicz-Petty bodies. We first propose the homogeneous Orlicz affine and geominimal surface areas, and establish their basic properties such as homogeneity, affine invariance and affine isoperimetric inequalities. We also prove that the homogeneous geominimal surface areas are continuous, under certain conditions, on the set of convex bodies in terms of the Hausdorff distance. Our proofs rely on the existence of the Orlicz-Petty bodies and the uniform boundedness of the Orlicz-Petty bodies of a convergent sequence of convex bodies. Similar results for the nonhomogeneous Orlicz geominimal surface areas are proved as well.

$L_p$ geominimal surface areas and their inequalities

In this paper, we introduce the $L_p$ geominimal surface area for all $-n\neq p<1$, which extends the classical geominimal surface area ($p=1$) by Petty and the $L_p$ geominimal surface area by Lutwak ($p>1$). Our extension of the $L_p$ geominimal surface area is motivated by recent work on the extension of the $L_p$ affine surface area -- a fundamental object in (affine) convex geometry. We prove some properties for the $L_p$ geominimal surface area and its related inequalities, such as, the affine isoperimetric inequality and a Santaló style inequality. Cyclic inequalities are established to obtain the monotonicity of the $L_p$ geominimal surface areas. Comparison between the $L_p$ geominimal surface area and the $p$-surface area is also provided.

Dual Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory: dual Orlicz $L_ϕ$ affine and geominimal surface areas

This paper aims to develop basic theory for the dual Orlicz $L_ϕ$ affine and geominimal surface areas for star bodies, which belong to the recent dual Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory for star bodies. Basic properties for these new affine invariants will be provided. Moreover, related Orlicz affine isoperimetric inequality, cyclic inequality, Santaló style inequality and Alexander-Fenchel type inequality are established.

Dual Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory: Orlicz $φ$-radial addition, Orlicz $L_ϕ$-dual mixed volume and related inequalities

This paper develops basic setting for the dual Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory for star bodies. An Orlicz $φ$-radial addition of two or more star bodies is proposed and related dual Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski inequality is established. Based on a linear Orlicz $φ$-radial addition of two star bodies, we derive a formula for the Orlicz $L_ϕ$-dual mixed volume. Moreover, a dual Orlicz-Minkowski inequality for the Orlicz $L_ϕ$-dual mixed volume, a dual Orlicz isoperimetric inequality for the Orlicz $L_ϕ$-dual surface area and a dual Orlicz-Urysohn inequality for the Orlicz $L_ϕ$-harmonic mean radius are proved.

New Orlicz Affine Isoperimetric Inequalities

The Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory receives considerable attention recently, and many results in the $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski theory have been extended to their Orlicz counterparts. The aim of this paper is to develop Orlicz $L_ϕ$ affine and geominimal surface areas for single convex body as well as for multiple convex bodies, which generalize the $L_p$ (mixed) affine and geominimal surface areas -- fundamental concepts in the $L_p$-Brunn-Minkowski theory. Our extensions are different from the general affine surface areas by Ludwig (in Adv. Math. 224 (2010)). Moreover, our definitions for Orlicz $L_ϕ$ affine and geominimal surface areas reveal that these affine invariants are essentially the infimum/supremum of $V_ϕ(K, L^\circ)$, the Orlicz $ϕ$-mixed volume of $K$ and the polar body of $L$, where $L$ runs over all star bodies and all convex bodies, respectively, with volume of $L$ equal to the volume of the unit Euclidean ball $B_2^n$. Properties for the Orlicz $L_ϕ$ affine and geominimal surface areas, such as, affine invariance and monotonicity, are proved. Related Orlicz affine isoperimetric inequalities are also established.

On the monotone properties of general affine surface areas under the Steiner symmetrization

In this paper, we prove that, if functions (concave) $ϕ$ and (convex) $ψ$ satisfy certain conditions, the $L_ϕ$ affine surface area is monotone increasing, while the $L_ψ$ affine surface area is monotone decreasing under the Steiner symmetrization. Consequently, we can prove related affine isoperimetric inequalities, under certain conditions on $ϕ$ and $ψ$, without assuming that the convex body involved has centroid (or the Santaló point) at the origin.

The Dual Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski Theory

This paper introduces the dual Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski theory for star sets. A radial Orlicz addition of two or more star sets is proposed and a corresponding dual Orlicz-Brunn-Minkowski inequality is established. Based on a radial Orlicz linear combination of two star sets, a formula for the dual Orlicz mixed volume is derived and a corresponding dual Orlicz-Minkowski inequality proved. The inequalities proved yield as special cases the precise duals of the conjectured log-Brunn-Minkowski and log-Minkowski inequalities of Böröczky, Lutwak, Yang, and Zhang. A new addition of star sets called radial $M$-addition is also introduced and shown to relate to the radial Orlicz addition.

On the mixed $f$-divergence for multiple pairs of measures

In this paper, the concept of the classical $f$-divergence (for a pair of measures) is extended to the mixed $f$-divergence (for multiple pairs of measures). The mixed $f$-divergence provides a way to measure the difference between multiple pairs of (probability) measures. Properties for the mixed $f$-divergence are established, such as permutation invariance and symmetry in distributions. An Alexandrov-Fenchel type inequality and an isoperimetric type inequality for the mixed $f$-divergence will be proved and applications in the theory of convex bodies are given.

The mixed $L_p$ geominimal surface areas for multiple convex bodies

In this paper, we introduce several mixed $L_p$ geominimal surface areas for multiple convex bodies for all $p\neq -n$. Our definitions are motivated from an equivalent formula for the mixed $p$-affine surface area. Some properties, such as the affine invariance, for these mixed $L_p$ geominimal surface areas are proved. Related inequalities, such as, Alexander-Fenchel type inequality, Santaló style inequality, affine isoperimetric inequalities, and cyclic inequalities are established. Moreover, we also study some properties and inequalities for the $i$-th mixed $L_p$ geominimal surface areas for two convex bodies.

Entanglement thresholds for random induced states

For a random quantum state on $H=C^d \otimes C^d$ obtained by partial tracing a random pure state on $H \otimes C^s$, we consider the whether it is typically separable or typically entangled. For this problem, we show the existence of a sharp threshold $s_0=s_0(d)$ of order roughly $d^3$. More precisely, for any $a > 0$ and for d large enough, such a random state is entangled with very large probability when $s < (1-a)s_0$, and separable with very large probability when $s > (1+a)s_0$. One consequence of this result is as follows: for a system of N identical particles in a random pure state, there is a threshold $k_0 = k_0(N) \sim N/5$ such that two subsystems of k particles each typically share entanglement if $k > k_0$, and typically do not share entanglement if $k < k_0$. Our methods work also for multipartite systems and for "unbalanced" systems such as $C^{d} \otimes C^{d'}$, $d \neq d'$. The arguments rely on random matrices, classical convexity, high-dimensional probability and geometry of Banach spaces; some of the auxiliary results may be of reference value. A high-level non-technical overview of the results of this paper and of a related article arXiv:1011.0275 can be found in arXiv:1112.4582.

Phase transitions for random states and a semi-circle law for the partial transpose

For a system of N identical particles in a random pure state, there is a threshold k_0 = k_0(N) ~ N/5 such that two subsystems of k particles each typically share entanglement if k > k_0, and typically do not share entanglement if k < k_0. By "random" we mean here "uniformly distributed on the sphere of the corresponding Hilbert space." The analogous phase transition for the positive partial transpose (PPT) property can be described even more precisely. For example, for N qubits the two subsystems of size k are typically in a PPT state if k < k_1 := N/4 - 1/2, and typically in a non-PPT state if k > k_1. Since, for a given state of the entire system, the induced state of a subsystem is given by the partial trace, the above facts can be rephrased as properties of random induced states. An important step in the analysis depends on identifying the asymptotic spectral density of the partial transposes of such random induced states, a result which is interesting in its own right.

On the comparison of volumes of quantum states

This paper aims to study the $\a$-volume of $\cK$, an arbitrary subset of the set of $N\times N$ density matrices. The $\a$-volume is a generalization of the Hilbert-Schmidt volume and the volume induced by partial trace. We obtain two-side estimates for the $\a$-volume of $\cK$ in terms of its Hilbert-Schmidt volume. The analogous estimates between the Bures volume and the $\a$-volume are also established. We employ our results to obtain bounds for the $\a$-volume of the sets of separable quantum states and of states with positive partial transpose (PPT). Hence, our asymptotic results provide answers for questions listed on page 9 in \cite{K. Zyczkowski1998} for large $N$ in the sense of $\a$-volume. \vskip 3mm PACS numbers: 02.40.Ft, 03.65.Db, 03.65.Ud, 03.67.Mn

On the Bures Volume of Separable Quantum States

We obtain two sided estimates for the Bures volume of an arbitrary subset of the set of $N\times N$ density matrices, in terms of the Hilbert-Schmidt volume of that subset. For general subsets, our results are essentially optimal (for large $N$). As applications, we derive in particular nontrivial lower and upper bounds for the Bures volume of sets of separable states and for sets of states with positive partial transpose. On the Homothety Conjecture

Let $K$ be a convex body in $\bbR^n$ and $\d>0$. The homothety conjecture asks: Does $K_{\d}=c K$ imply that $K$ is an ellipsoid? Here $K_{\d}$ is the (convex) floating body and $c$ is a constant depending on $\d$ only. In this paper we prove that the homothety conjecture holds true in the class of the convex bodies $B^n_p$, $1\leq p\leq \infty$, the unit balls of $l_p^n$; namely, we show that $(B^n_p)_{\d} = c B^n_p$ if and only if $p=2$. We also show that the homothety conjecture is true for a general convex body $K$ if $\d$ is small enough. This improvs earlier results by Schütt and Werner \cite{SW1994} and Stancu \cite{Stancu2009}.

Inequalities for mixed $p$-affine surface area

We prove new Alexandrov-Fenchel type inequalities and new affine isoperimetric inequalities for mixed $p$-affine surface areas. We introduce a new class of bodies, the illumination surface bodies, and establish some of their properties. We show, for instance, that they are not necessarily convex. We give geometric interpretations of $L_p$ affine surface areas, mixed $p$-affine surface areas and other functionals via these bodies. The surprising new element is that not necessarily convex bodies provide the tool for these interpretations.
