Proof of the geometric Langlands conjecture V: the multiplicity one theorem

This is the final paper in the series of five, in which we prove the geometric Langlands conjecture (GLC). We conclude the proof of GLC by showing that there exists a unique (up to tensoring up by a vector space) Hecke eigensheaf corresponding to an irreducible local system (hence, the title of the paper). We achieve this by analyzing the geometry of the stack of local systems.

From geometric to function-theoretic Langlands (or how to invent shtukas)

This is an informal note that explains that the classical Langlands theory over function fields can be obtained from the geometric one by taking the trace of Frobenius. The operation of taking the trace of Frobenius takes place at the categorical level, and this we deduce that the space of automorphic functions is the trace of the Frobenius on the category of automorphic sheaves.

Compact generation of the category of D-modules on the stack of G-bundles on a curve

The goal of the paper is to show that the (derived) category of D-modules on the stack Bun_G(X) is compactly generated. Here X is a smooth complete curve, and G is a reductive group. The problem is that Bun_G(X) is not quasi-compact, so the above compact generation is not automatic. The proof is based on the following observation: Bun_G(X) can be written as a union of quasi-compact open substacks, which are "co-truncative", i.e., the j_! extension functor is defined on the entire category of D-modules.

Functors given by kernels, adjunctions and duality

Let X_1 and X_2 be schemes of finite type over a field of characteristic 0. Let Q be an object in the category D-mod(X_1\times X_2) and consider the functor F:D-mod(X_1)->Dmod(X_2) defined by Q. Assume that F admits a right adjoint also defined by an object P in D-mod(X_1\times X_2). The question that we pose and answer in this paper is how P is related to the Verdier dual of Q. We subsequently generalize this question to the case when X_1 and X_2 are no longer schemes but Artin stacks, where the situation becomes much more interesting.

Chiral Koszul duality

We extend the theory of chiral and factorization algebras, developed for curves by Beilinson and Drinfeld in \cite{bd}, to higher-dimensional varieties. This extension entails the development of the homotopy theory of chiral and factorization structures, in a sense analogous to Quillen's homotopy theory of differential graded Lie algebras. We prove the equivalence of higher-dimensional chiral and factorization algebras by embedding factorization algebras into a larger category of chiral commutative coalgebras, then realizing this interrelation as a chiral form of Koszul duality. We apply these techniques to rederive some fundamental results of \cite{bd} on chiral enveloping algebras of $\star$-Lie algebras.
