Life insurance policies with cash flows subject to random interest rate changes

The main purpose of this work is to derive a partial differential equation for the reserves of life insurance liabilities subject to stochastic interest rates where the benefits and premiums depend directly on changes in the interest rate curve. In particular, we allow the payment streams to depend on the performance of an overnight technical interest rate, making them stochastic as well. This opens up for considering new types of contracts based on the performance of the insurer's returns on their own investments. We provide explicit solutions for the reserves when the premiums and benefits vary according to interest rate levels or averages under the Vasicek model and conduct some simulations computing reserve surfaces numerically. We also give an example of a reinsurance treaty taking over pension payments when the insurer's average returns fall under some specified threshold.

Variance and interest rate risk in unit-linked insurance policies

One of the risks derived from selling long term policies that any insurance company has, arises from interest rates. In this paper we consider a general class of stochastic volatility models written in forward variance form. We also deal with stochastic interest rates to obtain the risk-free price for unit-linked life insurance contracts, as well as providing a perfect hedging strategy by completing the market. We conclude with a simulation experiment, where we price unit-linked policies using Norwegian mortality rates. In addition we compare prices for the classical Black-Scholes model against the Heston stochastic volatility model with a Vasicek interest rate model.

Construction of Malliavin differentiable strong solutions of SDEs under an integrability condition on the drift without the Yamada-Watanabe principle

In this paper we aim at employing a compactness criterion of Da Prato, Malliavin, Nualart for square integrable Brownian functionals to construct unique strong solutions of SDE's under an integrability condition on the drift coefficient. The obtained solutions turn out to be Malliavin differentiable and are used to derive a Bismut-Elworthy-Li formula for solutions of the Kolmogorov equation.

The Bismut-Elworthy-Li formula for mean-field stochastic differential equations

We generalise the so-called Bismut-Elworthy-Li formula to a class of stochastic differential equations whose coefficients might depend on the law of the solution. We give some examples of where this formula can be applied to in the context of finance and the computation of Greeks and provide with a simple but rather illustrative simulation experiment showing that the use of the Bismut-Elworthy-Li formula, also known as Malliavin method, is more efficient compared to the finite difference method.
