Evaluation of Transfer Learning for Polish with a Text-to-Text Model

We introduce a new benchmark for assessing the quality of text-to-text models for Polish. The benchmark consists of diverse tasks and datasets: KLEJ benchmark adapted for text-to-text, en-pl translation, summarization, and question answering. In particular, since summarization and question answering lack benchmark datasets for the Polish language, we describe their construction and make them publicly available. Additionally, we present plT5 - a general-purpose text-to-text model for Polish that can be fine-tuned on various Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks with a single training objective. Unsupervised denoising pre-training is performed efficiently by initializing the model weights with a multi-lingual T5 (mT5) counterpart. We evaluate the performance of plT5, mT5, Polish BART (plBART), and Polish GPT-2 (papuGaPT2). The plT5 scores top on all of these tasks except summarization, where plBART is best. In general (except for summarization), the larger the model, the better the results. The encoder-decoder architectures prove to be better than the decoder-only equivalent.

Quantum dynamics generated by the two-axis counter-twisting Hamiltonian

We study the quantum dynamics generated by a two-axis counter-twisting Hamiltonian from an initial spin coherent state in a spin-$1/2$ ensemble. A characteristic feature of the two-axis counter-twisting Hamiltonian is the existence of four neutrally stable and two saddle unstable fixed points. The presence of the last one is responsible for a high level of squeezing. The squeezing is accompanied by the appearance of several quantum states of interest in quantum metrology with Heisenberg-limited sensitivity, and we show fidelity functions for some of them. We present exact results for the quantum Fisher information and the squeezing parameter. Although, the overall time evolution of both changes strongly with the number of particles, we find that they have regular dynamics for short times. We explain scaling with the system size by using a Gaussian approach.

Spin squeezing in dipolar spinor condensates

We study the effect of dipolar interactions on the level of squeezing in spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensates by using the single mode approximation. We limit our consideration to the $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ Lie subalgebra spanned by spin operators. The biaxial nature of dipolar interactions allows for dynamical generation of spin-squeezed states in the system. We analyze the phase portraits in the reduced mean-filed space in order to determine positions of unstable fixed points. We calculate numerically spin squeezing parameter showing that it is possible to reach the strongest squeezing set by the two-axis countertwisting model. We partially explain scaling with the system size by using the Gaussian approach and the frozen spin approximation.
