Dynamic structure factor of quantum hard rods from exact form-factors

We study the quantum hard-rods model and obtain compact analytical expressions for density form factors, and a semi-analytical treatment for dynamic and static structure factors calculations, greatly reducing computational complexity. We identify conditions under which these form factors vanish and analyze real-space correlations, confirming the model's Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid behavior. The results reveal universal features of low energy physics of a gapless quantum fluid and its relation to Luttinger liquid theory, providing precise benchmarks for numerical simulations. This work establishes quantum hard rods as an important testbed for theories of strongly correlated one-dimensional systems.

Criticality-enhanced quantum sensing in ferromagnetic Bose-Einstein condensates: role of readout measurement and detection noise

We theoretically investigate estimation of the control parameter in a ferromagnetic Bose-Einstein condensate near second order quantum phase transitions. We quantify sensitivity by quantum and classical Fisher information and using the error-propagation formula. For these different metrics, we find the same, beyond-standard-quantum-limit (SQL) scaling with atom number near critical points, and SQL scaling away from critical points. We find that both depletion of the $m_f=0$ Zeeman sub-level and transverse magnetization provide signals of sufficient quality to saturate the sensitivity scaling. To explore the effect of experimental imperfections, we study the scaling around criticality at nonzero temperature and with nonzero detection noise. Our results suggest the feasibility of sub-SQL sensing in ferromagnetic condensates with current experimental capabilities.

Supersensitive quantum sensor based on criticality in an antiferromagnetic spinor condensate

We consider an antiferromagnetic Bose-Einstein condensate in a traverse magnetic field with a fixed macroscopic magnetization. The system exhibits two different critical behaviors corresponding to transitions from polar to broken-axisymmetry and from antiferromagnetic to broken-axisymmetry phases depending on the value of magnetization. We exploit both types of system criticality as a resource in the precise estimation of control parameter value. We quantify the achievable precision by the quantum Fisher information. We demonstrate supersensitivity and show that the precision scales with the number of atoms up to $N^4$ around critically. In addition, we study the precision based on the error-propagation formula providing the simple-to-measure signal which coincides its scaling with the quantum Fisher information. Finally, we take into account the effect of non-zero temperature and show that the sub-shot noise sensitivity in the estimation of the control parameter is achievable in the low-temperature limit.

Twist-and-store entanglement in bimodal and spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensates

A scheme for dynamical stabilization of entanglement quantified by the quantum Fisher information is analyzed numerically and analytically for bimodal and spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensates in the context of atomic interferometry. The scheme consists of twisting dynamics followed by a single rotation of a state which limits further evolution around stable center fixed points in the mean-field phase space. The resulting level of entanglement is of the order or larger than at the moment of rotation. It is demonstrated that the readout measurement of parity quantifies the level of entanglement during entire evolution.

Non-adiabatic quantum phase transition in a trapped spinor condensate

We study the effect of an external harmonic trapping potential on an outcome of the non-adiabatic quantum phase transition from an antiferromagnetic to a phase-separated state in a spin-1 atomic condensate. Previously, we demonstrated that the dynamics of an untrapped system exhibits double universality with two different scaling laws appearing due to conservation of magnetization. We show that in the presence of a trap double universality persists. However, the corresponding scaling exponents are strongly modified by transfer of local magnetization across the system. The values of these exponents cannot be explained by the effect of causality alone, as in the spinless case. We derive the appropriate scaling laws based on a slow diffusive-drift relaxation process in the local density approximation.

Quantum dynamics generated by the two-axis counter-twisting Hamiltonian

We study the quantum dynamics generated by a two-axis counter-twisting Hamiltonian from an initial spin coherent state in a spin-$1/2$ ensemble. A characteristic feature of the two-axis counter-twisting Hamiltonian is the existence of four neutrally stable and two saddle unstable fixed points. The presence of the last one is responsible for a high level of squeezing. The squeezing is accompanied by the appearance of several quantum states of interest in quantum metrology with Heisenberg-limited sensitivity, and we show fidelity functions for some of them. We present exact results for the quantum Fisher information and the squeezing parameter. Although, the overall time evolution of both changes strongly with the number of particles, we find that they have regular dynamics for short times. We explain scaling with the system size by using a Gaussian approach.

Spin squeezing in dipolar spinor condensates

We study the effect of dipolar interactions on the level of squeezing in spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensates by using the single mode approximation. We limit our consideration to the $\mathfrak{su}(2)$ Lie subalgebra spanned by spin operators. The biaxial nature of dipolar interactions allows for dynamical generation of spin-squeezed states in the system. We analyze the phase portraits in the reduced mean-filed space in order to determine positions of unstable fixed points. We calculate numerically spin squeezing parameter showing that it is possible to reach the strongest squeezing set by the two-axis countertwisting model. We partially explain scaling with the system size by using the Gaussian approach and the frozen spin approximation.

Thermal fluctuations and quantum phase transition in antiferromagnetic Bose-Einstein condensates

We develop a method for investigating nonequilibrium dynamics of an ultracold system that is initially at thermal equilibrium. Our procedure is based on the classical fields approximation with appropriately prepared initial state. As an application of the method, we investigate the influence of thermal fluctuations on the quantum phase transition from an antiferromagnetic to phase separated ground state in a spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate of ultracold atoms. We find that at temperatures significantly lower than the critical condensation temperature $T_c$ the scaling law for the number of created spin defects remains intact.

Thermodynamics of a spin-1 Bose gas with fixed magnetization

We investigate the thermodynamics of a spin-1 Bose gas with fixed magnetization including the quadratic Zeeman energy shift. Our calculations are based on the grand canonical description for the ideal gas and the classical fields approximation for atoms with ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions. We confirm the occurence of a double phase transition in the system that takes place due to two global constraints. We show analytically for the ideal gas how critical temperatures and condensed fractions are changed by a non-zero magnetic field. The interaction strongly affects the condensate scenario below the second critical temperature. The effect imposed by interaction energies becomes diminished in high magnetic fields where condensation, of both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic atoms, agree with the ideal gas results.

Universality in nonequilibrium condensation of exciton-polaritons

We investigate the process of condensation of exciton-polaritons in a one-dimensional nanowire, predicting spontaneous formation of domains of uncondensed excitons and condensed polaritons. We demonstrate a universal scaling law for the density of domains, which results from the competition between characteristic timescales present in the system. However, we find that the system does not follow the standard Kibble-Żurek scenario of a nonequilibrium phase transition.

Dynamics of the modified Kibble-Żurek mechanism in antiferromagnetic spin-1 condensates

We investigate the dynamics and outcome of a quantum phase transition from an antiferromagnetic to phase separated ground state in a spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate of ultracold atoms. We explicitly demonstrate double universality in dynamics within experiments with various quench time. Furthermore, we show that spin domains created in the nonequilibrium transition constitute a set of mutually incoherent quasicondensates. The quasicondensates appear to be positioned in a semi-regular fashion, which is a result of the conservation of local magnetization during the post-selection dynamics.

Limit of spin squeezing in trapped Bose-Einstein condensates

The evolution of an interacting two-component Bose-Einstein condensate from an initial phase state leads to a spin squeezed state that may be used in atomic clocks to increase the signal-to-noise ratio, opening the way to quantum metrology. The efficiency of spin squeezing is limited by the finite temperature of the gas, as was shown theoretically in a spatially homogeneous system. Here we determine the limit of spin squeezing in the realistic trapped case, with classical field simulations, and with a completely analytical treatment that includes the quantum case.

Double universality of a quantum phase transition in spinor condensates: the Kibble-Żurek mechanism and a conservation law

We consider a phase transition from antiferromagnetic to phase separated ground state in a spin-1 Bose-Einstein condensate of ultracold atoms. We demonstrate the occurrence of two scaling laws, for the number of spin fluctuations just after the phase transition, and for the number of spin domains in the final, stable configuration. Only the first scaling can be explained by the standard Kibble-Żurek mechanism. We explain the occurrence of two scaling laws by a model including post-selection of spin domains due to the conservation of condensate magnetization.

Spin Squeezing in Finite Temperature Bose-Einstein Condensates : Scaling with the system size

We perform a multimode treatment of spin squeezing induced by interactions in atomic condensates, and we show that, at finite temperature, the maximum spin squeezing has a finite limit when the atom number $N\to \infty$ at fixed density and interaction strength. To calculate the limit of the squeezing parameter for a spatially homogeneous system we perform a double expansion with two small parameters: 1/N in the thermodynamic limit and the non-condensed fraction $<N_{\rm nc}>/N$ in the Bogoliubov limit. To test our analytical results beyond the Bogoliubov approximation, and to perform numerical experiments, we use improved classical field simulations with a carefully chosen cut-off, such that the classical field model gives for the ideal Bose gas the correct non-condensed fraction in the Bose-condensed regime.

Limit of Spin Squeezing in Finite Temperature Bose-Einstein Condensates

We show that, at finite temperature, the maximum spin squeezing achievable using interactions in Bose-Einstein condensates has a finite limit when the atom number $N\to \infty$ at fixed density and interaction strength. We calculate the limit of the squeezing parameter for a spatially homogeneous system and show that it is bounded from above by the initial non-condensed fraction.

Coherence time of a Bose-Einstein condensate

Temporal coherence is a fundamental property of macroscopic quantum systems, such as lasers in optics and Bose-Einstein condensates in atomic gases and it is a crucial issue for interferometry applications with light or matter waves. Whereas the laser is an "open" quantum system, ultracold atomic gases are weakly coupled to the environment and may be considered as isolated. The coherence time of a condensate is then intrinsic to the system and its derivation is out of the frame of laser theory. Using quantum kinetic theory, we predict that the interaction with non-condensed modes gradually smears out the condensate phase, with a variance growing as A t^2+B t+C at long times t, and we give a quantitative prediction for A, B and C. Whereas the coefficient A vanishes for vanishing energy fluctuations in the initial state, the coefficients B and C are remarkably insensitive to these fluctuations. The coefficient B describes a diffusive motion of the condensate phase that sets the ultimate limit to the condensate coherence time. We briefly discuss the possibility to observe the predicted phase spreading, also including the effect of particle losses.

Classical fields method for a relativistic interacting Bose gas

We formulate a classical fields method for description of relativistic interacting bosonic particles at nonzero temperatures. The method relays on the assumption that at low temperatures the Bose field can be described by a c-number function. We discuss a very important role of the cut-off momentum which divides the field into dominant classical part and a small quantum correction. We illustrate the method by studying a thermodynamics of relativistic Bose field which dynamics is governed by the Klein-Gordon equation with $λψ^4$ term responsible for interactions.

From a nonlinear string to a weakly interacting Bose gas

We investigate a real scalar field whose dynamics is governed by a nonlinear wave equation. We show that classical description can be applied to a quantum system of many interacting bosons provided that some quantum ingredients are included. An universal action has to be introduced in order to define particle number. The value of this action should be equal to the Planck constant. This constrain can be imposed by removing high frequency modes from the dynamics by introducing a cut-off. We show that the position of the cut-off has to be carefully adjusted. Finally, we show the proper choice of the cut-off ensures that all low frequency eigenenmodes which are taken into account are macroscopically occupied.
