Asymptotic estimates for the largest volume ratio of a convex body

The largest volume ratio of given convex body $K \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ is defined as $$\mbox{lvr}(K):= \sup_{L \subset \mathbb{R}^n} \mbox{vr}(K,L),$$ where the $\sup$ runs over all the convex bodies $L$. We prove the following sharp lower bound $$c \sqrt{n} \leq \mbox{lvr}(K),$$ for every body $K$ (where $c>0$ is an absolute constant). This result improves the former best known lower bound, of order $\sqrt{\frac{n}{\log \log(n)}}$. We also study the exact asymptotic behavior of the largest volume ratio for some natural classes. In particular, we show that $\mbox{lvr}(K)$ behaves as the square root of the dimension of the ambient space in the following cases: if $K$ is the unit ball of an unitary invariant norm in $\mathbb{R}^{d \times d}$ (e.g., the unit ball of the $p$-Schatten class $S_p^d$ for any $1 \leq p \leq \infty$), $K$ is the the unit ball of the full/symmetric tensor product of $\ell_p$-spaces endowed with the projective or injective norm or $K$ is unconditional.

Orthant probabilities and the attainment of maxima on a vertex of a simplex

We calculate bounds for orthant probabilities for the equicorrelated multivariate normal distribution and use these bounds to show the following: for degree $k>4$, the probability that a $k$-homogeneous polynomial in $n$ variables attains a relative maximum on a vertex of the $n$-dimensional simplex tends to one as the dimension $n$ grows. The bounds we obtain for the orthant probabilities are tight up to $\log(n)$ factors.

An integral formula for multiple summing norms of operators

We prove that the multiple summing norm of multilinear operators defined on some $n$-dimensional real or complex vector spaces with the $p$-norm may be written as an integral with respect to stables measures. As an application we show inclusion and coincidence results for multiple summing mappings. We also present some contraction properties and compute or estimate the limit orders of this class of operators.

Hypercyclic behavior of some non-convolution operators on $H(\mathbb{C}^N)$

We study hypercyclicity properties of a family of non-convolution operators defined on spaces of holomorphic functions on $\mathbb{C}^N$. These operators are a composition of a differentiation operator and an affine composition operator, and are analogues of operators studied by Aron and Markose on $H(\mathbb{C})$. The hypercyclic behavior is more involved than in the one dimensional case, and depends on several parameters involved.

Energy integrals and metric embedding theory

For some centrally symmetric convex bodies $K\subset \mathbb R^n$, we study the energy integral $$ \sup \int_{K} \int_{K} \|x - y\|_r^{p}\, dμ(x) dμ(y), $$ where the supremum runs over all finite signed Borel measures $μ$ on $K$ of total mass one. In the case where $K = B_q^n$, the unit ball of $\ell_q^n$ (for $1 < q \leq 2$) or an ellipsoid, we obtain the exact value or the correct asymptotical behavior of the supremum of these integrals. We apply these results to a classical embedding problem in metric geometry. We consider in $\mathbb R^n$ the Euclidean distance $d_2$. For $0 < α< 1$, we estimate the minimum $R$ for which the snowflaked metric space $(K, d_2^α)$ may be isometrically embedded on the surface of a Hilbert sphere of radius $R$.

Strongly mixing convolution operators on Fréchet spaces of holomorphic functions

A theorem of Godefroy and Shapiro states that non-trivial convolution operators on the space of entire functions on $\mathbb{C}^n$ are hypercyclic. Moreover, it was shown by Bonilla and Grosse-Erdmann that they have frequently hypercyclic functions of exponential growth. On the other hand, in the infinite dimensional setting, the Godefroy-Shapiro theorem has been extended to several spaces of entire functions defined on Banach spaces. We prove that on all these spaces, non-trivial convolution operators are strongly mixing with respect to a gaussian probability measure of full support. For the proof we combine the results previously mentioned and we use techniques recently developed by Bayart and Matheron. We also obtain the existence of frequently hypercyclic entire functions of exponential growth.

Decay estimates for nonlinear nonlocal diffusion problems in the whole space

In this paper we obtain bounds for the decay rate in the $L^r (\rr^d)$-norm for the solutions to a nonlocal and nolinear evolution equation, namely, $$u_t(x,t) = \int_{\rr^d} K(x,y) |u(y,t)- u(x,t)|^{p-2} (u(y,t)- u(x,t)) \, dy, $$ with $ x \in \rr^d$, $ t>0$. Here we consider a kernel $K(x,y)$ of the form $K(x,y)=ψ(y-a(x))+ψ(x-a(y))$, where $ψ$ is a bounded, nonnegative function supported in the unit ball and $a$ is a linear function $a(x)= Ax$. To obtain the decay rates we derive lower and upper bounds for the first eigenvalue of a nonlocal diffusion operator of the form $ T(u) = - \int_{\rr^d} K(x,y) |u(y)-u(x)|^{p-2} (u(y)-u(x)) \, dy$, with $1 \leq p < \infty$. The upper and lower bounds that we obtain are sharp and provide an explicit expression for the first eigenvalue in the whole $\rr^d$: $$ λ_{1,p} (\rr^d) = 2(\int_{\rr^d} ψ(z) \, dz)|\frac{1}{|\det{A}|^{1/p}} -1|^p. $$ Moreover, we deal with the $p=\infty$ eigenvalue problem studying the limit as $p \to \infty$ of $λ_{1,p}^{1/p}$.
