Photosensitive SrMnO3

In recent years, photosensitive materials have been in huge demand because of their fascinating ability to convert absorbed photon energy to generate strain and henceforth tuning the physical properties. In this report we detect the photosensitive activity of SrMnO3. Using the power dependent and temperature dependent Raman study with different laser sources having wavelengths across the optical band gap of SrMnO3, we divulge the photosensitive character of SrMnO3 thin films. Upon laser light illumination, Raman modes soften and softening further increases with increase in laser power. Similar kind of mode variation is observed with increasing temperature at fixed laser power. XAS in presence of laser illumination, reveals the change in crystal field splitting associated with mode softening.

Novel symmetries in an interacting N = 2 supersymmetric quantum mechanical model

We demonstrate the existence of a set of novel discrete symmetry transformations in the case of an interacting N = 2 supersymmetric quantum mechanical model of a system of an electron moving on a sphere in the background of a magnetic monopole and establish its interpretation in the language of differential geometry. These discrete symmetries are, over and above, the usual three continuous symmetries of the theory which together provide the physical realizations of the de Rham cohomological operators of differential geometry. We derive the nilpotent N = 2 SUSY transformations by exploiting our idea of supervariable approach and provide geometrical meaning to these transformations in the language of Grassmannian translational generators on a (1, 2)-dimensional supermanifold on which our N = 2 SUSY quantum mechanical model is generalized. We express the conserved supercharges and the invariance of the Lagrangian in terms of the supervariables (obtained after the imposition of the SUSY invariant restrictions) and provide the geometrical meaning to (i) the nilpotency property of the N = 2 supercharges, and (ii) the SUSY invariance of the Lagrangian of our N = 2 SUSY theory.

Superspace Unitary Operator in Superfield Approach to Non-Abelian Gauge Theory with Dirac Fields

Within the framework of augmented version of the superfield approach to Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) formalism, we derive the superspace unitary operator (and its Hermitian conjugate) in the context of four (3 + 1)-dimensional (4D) interacting non-Abelian 1-form gauge theory with Dirac fields. The ordinary 4D non-Abelian theory, defined on the flat 4D Minkowski spacetime manifold, is generalized onto a (4, 2)-dimensional supermanifold which is parameterized by the spacetime bosonic coordinates x^μ(with μ= 0, 1, 2, 3) and a pair of Grassmannian variables (θ, \barθ) which satisfy the standard relationships: θ^2 = {\barθ}^2 = 0, θ\,\barθ+ \barθ\,θ= 0. Various consequences of the application of the above superspace (SUSP) unitary operator (and its Hermitian conjugate) are discussed. In particular, we obtain the results of the application of horizontality condition (HC) and gauge invariant restriction (GIR) in the language of the above SUSP operators. One of the novel results of our present investigation is the derivation of explicit expressions for the SUSP unitary operator (and its Hermitian conjugate) without imposing any Hermitian conjugation condition from outside on the parameters and (super)fields of the supersymmetric version of our 4D interacting non-Abelian 1-form theory with Dirac fields.

Supervariable Approach to the Nilpotent Symmetries for a Toy Model of the Hodge Theory

We exploit the standard techniques of the supervariable approach to derive the nilpotent Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) and anti-BRST symmetry transformations for a toy model of the Hodge theory (i.e. a rigid rotor) and provide the geometrical meaning and interpretation to them. Furthermore, we also derive the nilpotent (anti-)co-BRST symmetry transformations for this theory within the framework of the above supervariable approach. We capture the (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST invariance of the Lagrangian of our present theory within the framework of augmented supervariable formalism. We also express the (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST charges in terms of the supervariables (obtained after the application of the (dual-)horizontality conditions and (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST invariant restrictions) to provide the geometrical interpretations for their nilpotency and anticommutativity properties. The application of the dual-horizontality condition and ensuing proper (i.e. nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting) fermionic (anti-)co-BRST symmetries are completely novel results in our present investigation.

Canonical brackets of a toy model for the Hodge theory without its canonical conjugate momenta

We consider the toy model of a rigid rotor as an example of the Hodge theory within the framework of the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) formalism and show that the internal symmetries of this theory lead to the derivation of canonical brackets amongst the creation and annihilation operators of the dynamical variables where the definition of the canonical conjugate momenta is not required. We invoke only the spin-statistics theorem, normal ordering and basic concepts of continuous symmetries (and their generators) to derive the canonical brackets for the model of a one (0 + 1)-dimensional (1D) rigid rotor without using the definition of the canonical conjugate momenta anywhere. Our present method of derivation of the basic brackets is conjectured to be true for a class of theories that provide a set of tractable physical examples for the Hodge theory.

Superspace Unitary Operator in QED with Dirac and Complex Scalar Fields: Superfield Approach

We exploit the strength of the superspace (SUSP) unitary operator to obtain the results of the application of the horizontality condition (HC) within the framework of augmented version of superfield formalism that is applied to the interacting systems of Abelian 1-form gauge theories where the U(1) Abelian 1-form gauge field couples to the Dirac and complex scalar fields in the physical four (3 + 1)-dimensions of spacetime. These interacting theories are generalized onto a (4, 2)-dimensional supermanifold that is parametrized by the four (3 + 1)-dimensional (4D) spacetime variables and a pair of Grassmannian variables. To derive the (anti-)BRST symmetries for the matter fields, we impose the gauge invariant restrictions (GIRs) on the superfields defined on the (4, 2)-dimensional supermanifold. We discuss various outcomes that emerge out from our knowledge of the SUSP unitary operator and its hermitian conjugate. The latter operator is derived without imposing any operation of hermitian conjugation on the parameters and fields of our theory from outside. This is an interesting observation in our present investigation.

Self-Dual Chiral Boson: Augmented Superfield Approach

We exploit the standard tools and techniques of the augmented version of Bonora-Tonin (BT) superfield formalism to derive the off-shell nilpotent and absolutely anticommuting (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST symmetry transformations for the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) invariant Lagrangian density of a self-dual bosonic system. In the derivation of the full set of the above transformations, we invoke the (dual-)horizontality conditions, (anti-)BRST and (anti-)co-BRST invariant restrictions on the superfields that are defined on the (2, 2)-dimensional supermanifold. The latter is parameterized by the bosonic variable x^μ\,(μ= 0,\, 1) and a pair of Grassmanian variables θand \barθ(with θ^2 = \barθ^2 = 0 and θ\barθ+ \barθθ= 0). The dynamics of this system is such that, instead of the full (2, 2) dimensional superspace coordinates (x^μ, θ, \barθ), we require only the specific (1, 2)-dimensional super-subspace variables (t, θ, \barθ) for its description. This is a novel observation in the context of superfield approach to BRST formalism. The application of the dual-horizontality condition, in the derivation of a set of proper (anti-)co-BRST symmetries, is also one of the new ingredients of our present endeavor where we have exploited the augmented version of superfield formalism which is geometrically very intuitive.

A novel observation in the BRST approach to a free spinning relativistic particle

For the newly proposed coupled (but equivalent) Lagrangians for the supersymmetric (SUSY) system of a one (0 + 1)-dimensional spinning relativistic particle, we derive the Noether conserved charges corresponding to its (super)gauge, Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST), anti-BRST and ghost-scale symmetry transformations. We deduce the underlying algebra amongst the continuous symmetry operators and corresponding conserved charges. We point out a novel observation that emerges, for this specific SUSY system, when we discuss it within the framework of BRST formalism. In particular, the requirement of the physicality criteria with the (anti-)BRST charges leads to a completely new observation because, as it turns out, one of the primary constraints does not annihilate the physical state of the theory. We have never come across this kind of result in the realm of BRST approach to usual gauge theories. We provide the physical and theoretical reasons behind the above observation.

Novel symmetries in the modified version of two dimensional Proca theory

By exploiting Stueckelberg's approach, we obtain a gauge theory for the two (1+1)-dimensional (2D) Proca theory and demonstrate that this theory is endowed with, in addition to the usual Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) and anti-BRST symmetries, the on-shell nilpotent (anti-)co-BRST symmetries, under which the total gauge-fixing term remains invariant. The anticommutator of the BRST and co-BRST (as well as anti-BRST and anti-co-BRST) symmetries define a unique bosonic symmetry in the theory, under which the ghost part of the Lagrangian density remains invariant. To establish connections of the above symmetries with the Hodge theory, we invoke a pseudo-scalar field in the theory. Ultimately, we demonstrate that the full theory provides a field theoretic example for the Hodge theory where the continuous symmetry transformations provide a physical realization of the de Rham cohomological operators and discrete symmetries of the theory lead to the physical realization of the Hodge duality operation of differential geometry. We also mention the physical implications and utility of our present investigation.

A Markov Chain Model for the Analysis of Round-Robin Scheduling Scheme

In the literature of Round-Robin scheduling scheme, each job is processed, one after the another after giving a fix quantum. In case of First-come first-served, each process is executed, if the previously arrived processed is completed. Both these scheduling schemes are used in this paper as its special cases. A Markov chain model is used to compare several scheduling schemes of the class. An index measure is defined to compare the model based efficiency of different scheduling schemes. One scheduling scheme which is the mixture of FIFO and round robin is found efficient in terms of model based study. The system simulation procedure is used to derive the conclusion of the content
