The Behaviour of the Green Function for the BFKL Pomeron with Running Coupling

We analyse here in LO the physical properties of the Green function solution for the BFKL equation. We show that the solution obeys the orthonormality conditions in the physical region and fulfills the completeness requirements. The unintegrated gluon density is shown to consists of a set of few poles with parameters which could be determined by comparison with the DIS data of high precision.

NLO Leptoquark Production and Decay: The Narrow-Width Approximation and Beyond

We study the leptoquark model of Buchmüller, Rückl and Wyler, focusing on a particular type of scalar ($R_2$) and vector ($U_1$) leptoquark. The primary aim is to perform the calculations for leptoquark production and decay at next-to-leading order (NLO) to establish the importance of the NLO contributions and, in particular, to determine how effective the narrow-width-approximation (NWA) is at NLO. For both the scalar and vector leptoquarks it is found that the NLO contributions are large, with the larger corrections occurring for the case vector leptoquarks. For the scalar leptoquark it is found that the NWA provides a good approximation for determining the resonant peak, however the NWA is not as effective for the vector leptoquark. For both the scalar and vector leptoquarks there are large contributions away from the resonant peak, which are missing from the NWA results, and these make a significant difference to the total cross-section.

Order-by-order Analytic Solution to the BFKL Equation

We propose a regularization of the BFKL equation which allows for its solution in each order of perturbation theory by means of a sum over multiple poles. This sum can be presented in a rather simple formula for the Fourier transform in the azimuthal angle of the gluon Green function. In order to test our method, we have compared a few orders in the expansion to previous results by Del Duca, Dixon, Duhr and Pennington, finding agreement. Our formalism is general and can be applied to other, more complicated, kernels.

BFKL Evolution as a Communicator Between Small and Large Energy Scales

We analyze, in leading and next to leading order of BFKL, a possible influence of Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) effects on the structure of the discrete pomeron states. We show that the eigenvalues of the states which contribute significantly to the gluon density in the observable region are substantially modified by BSM effects irrespective of the assumptions about the infrared boundary conditions. We also develop a physically motivated heuristic model of the infrared boundary condition which determines the gluon structure function and argue, using this model, that the analysis of the present and future low-$x$ data could allow the detection of a supersymmetry scale in the multi-TeV range.

On the top-antitop invariant mass spectrum at the LHC from a Higgs boson signal perspective

We investigate the effect of one-loop corrections of ${\cal O}(α_S^2α_W)$ on the $t\bar t$ invariant mass spectrum at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in presence of both resonant and non-resonant Higgs boson effects. We show that corrections of ${\cal O}(α_S^2α_W)$ involving a non-resonant Higgs boson are comparable to or even larger than those involving interference with the s-channel resonant Higgs boson amplitude and that both of these are subleading with respect to all other (non-Higgs) diagrams through that order. We also compute the contribution through ${\cal O}(α_S^2α_W^2)$ of resonant Higgs boson production (i.e. Higgs production via $gg$ fusion) as well as the pure QCD ones of ${\cal O}(α_S^3)$. Altogether, we show that the well known peak-dip structure of the $M_{t\bar t}$ spectrum emerging from interference effects between the $t,u$-channel $gg$-induced Leading Order (LO) QCD diagrams and the one due to a Higgs boson in s-channel via $gg$-fusion is drastically swamped by the remainder of the terms of ${\cal O}(α_S^2α_W)$ discussed above.

Indirect Evidence for New Physics at the 10 TeV Scale

We show that the supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model modifies the structure of the low lying BFKL discrete pomeron states (DPS) which give a sizable contribution to the gluon structure function in the HERA x and Q2 region. The comparison of the gluon density, determined within DPS with N=1 SUSY, with data favours a supersymmetry scale of the order of 10 TeV. The DPS method described here could open a new window to the physics beyond the Standard Model.

Full one-loop electroweak corrections to e+e- to 3 jets at linear colliders

We describe the impact of the full one-loop electroweak terms of O(alpha_s alpha_EM^3) entering the electron-positron into three-jet cross-section from sqrt(s)=M_Z to TeV scale energies. We include both factorisable and non-factorisable virtual corrections and photon bremsstrahlung. Their importance for the measurement of alpha_S from jet rates and shape variables is explained qualitatively and illustrated quantitatively, also in presence of b-tagging.

Using HERA Data to Determine the Infrared Behaviour of the BFKL Amplitude

We determine the infrared behaviour of the BFKL forward amplitude for gluon-gluon scattering. Our approach, based on the discrete pomeron solution, leads to an excellent description of the new combined inclusive HERA data at low values of x (<0.01) and at the same time determines the unintegrated gluon density inside the proton, for squared transverse momenta of the gluon less than 100 GeV^2. The phases of this amplitude are sensitive to the non-perturbative gluonic dynamics and could be sensitive to the presence of Beyond-the-Standard-Model particles at very high energies.

MSSM Effects in Top-antitop Production at the LHC

We report on a calculation of the effects of supersymmetry on the cross-section for top-antitop production at LHC. A numerical study is carried out for the ten benchmarks of the Snowmass accord. It is found that the higher order effects involving supersymmetric particles in internal loops can be as high as 6%, both for the cross-section and the (parity even) helicity asymmetry, for one particular benchmark. For other benchmarks smaller but nonetheless observable corrections are found.

Prototype Graphs for radiative Corrections to Polarized Chargino or Neutralino Production in Electron-Positron Annihilation

We present the contributions from all types of one-loop corrections to the scattering amplitude for the pair production of polarized charginos or neutralinos from polarized electron-positron annihilation. The contributions are classified in terms of ``prototypes'' distinguished by the number of particles inside the loops and their spins. The results are quoted in terms of the Veltman-Passarino functions in terms of general couplings and internal masses. The results can therefore be applied to any supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model or indeed to any polarized fermion pair production process in electron-positron annihilation.

Photon Structure Functions Beyind the SUSY Threshold

We evolve virtual photon parton densities up to the SUSY threshold and higher using coupled inhomogeneous DGLAP differential equations. Reliable input parameterizations were available from the c-quark threshold. Limited $P^2$ ( target photon virtuality ) dependence is observed. The difference to the photon structure function is shown to be significant with the introduction of SUSY dependent splitting functions. A negligible difference is observed by letting the gluino mass enter after the squark mass. An effort is made to include the squark threshold effect in such a way that both the renormalization group equations are satisfied and the perturbative calculation is reproduced.

Studying the Perturbative Reggeon

We consider the flavour non-singlet Reggeon within the context of perturbative QCD. This consists of ladders built out of ``reggeized'' quarks. We propose a method for the numerical solution of the integro-differential equation for the amplitude describing the exchange of such a Reggeon. The solution is known to have a sharp rise at low values of Bjorken-x when applied to non-singlet quantities in deep-inelastic scattering. We show that when the running of the coupling is taken into account this sharp rise is further enhanced, although the Q^2 dependence is suppressed by the introduction of the running coupling. We also investigate the effects of simulating non-perturbative physics by introducing a constituent mass for the soft quarks and an effective mass for the soft gluons exchanged in the t-channel.
