Probing the $h c\bar{c} $ coupling at a Future Circular Collider in the electron-hadron mode

We study the production of a neutral Higgs boson at a Future Circular Collider in the electron-hadron mode (FCC-eh) through the leading process $e^- p \to ν_e h q $ assuming the decay channel $h \to c \bar{c} $, where $h$ is the Standard Model (SM)-like state discovered at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This process is studied in the context of a 2-Higgs Doublet Model Type III (2HDM-III) embedding a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and a general Higgs potential, where both Higgs doublets are coupled with up- and down-type fermions. Flavour Changing Neutral Currents (FCNCs) are well controlled by this approach through the adoption of a suitable texture once flavour physics constraints are taken in account. Considering the parameter space where the signal is enhanced and in agreement with both experimental data and theoretical conditions, we analyse the aforementioned signal by taking into account the most important SM backgrounds, separating $c$-jets from light-flavour and gluon ones as well as $b$-jets by means of efficient flavour tagging. We find that the $h c \bar{c} $ coupling strength can be accessed with good significance after a luminosity of $1$ ab$^{-1}$ for a 50 TeV proton beam and a 60 GeV electron one, the latter with a 80\% (longitudinal) polarisation.

A fermionic portal to a non-abelian dark sector

We introduce a new class of renormalisable models, consisting of a dark $SU(2)_D$ gauge sector connected to the Standard Model (SM) through a Vector-Like (VL) fermion mediator, not requiring a Higgs portal, in which a massive vector boson is the Dark Matter (DM) candidate. These models are labelled Fermion Portal Vector Dark Matter (FPVDM). Multiple realisations are possible, depending on the properties of the VL partner and of the scalar potential. One example is discussed in detail. FPVDM models have a large number of applications in collider and non-collider experiments, depending on the mediator sector.

A Novel Experimental Search Channel for Very Light Higgses in the 2HDM Type I

We present a reinterpretation study of existing results from the CMS Collaboration, specifically, searches for light Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) Higgs pairs produced in the chain decay $pp\to H_{\rm SM}\to hh(aa)$ into a variety of final states, in the context of the CP-conserving 2-Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) Type-I. Through this, we test the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) sensitivity to a possible new signature, $pp\to H_{\rm SM}\to ZA\to ZZ h$, with $ZZ\to jj μ^+μ^-$ and $h\to b\bar b$. We perform a systematic scan over the 2HDM Type-I parameter space, by taking into account all available theoretical and experimental constraints, in order to find a region with a potentially visible signal. We investigate the significance of it through a full Monte Carlo simulation down to the parametrised detector level. We show that such a signal is an alternative promising channel to standard four-body searches for light BSM Higgses at the LHC already with an integrated luminosity of ${\cal L} = 300~{\rm fb}^{-1}$. For a tenfold increase of the latter, discovery should be possible over most of the allowed parameter space.

Light charged Higgs boson in $H^\pm h$ associated production at the LHC

We investigate the light charged Higgs boson production via $pp \rightarrow H^\pm h$ at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the Two-Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) type-I. By focusing on a scenario where $H$ is the observed Higgs boson of mass 125 GeV, we study the aforementioned Higgs boson production channel and explore its bosonic decay $H^\pm \rightarrow W^\pm h$. The latter can have a sizable rate that possibly dominates, over the fermionic decay channels, in several regions of the viable parameter space. We demonstrate that the production process $pp \rightarrow H^\pm h$ followed by $H^\pm \rightarrow W^\pm h$ could be the most promising experimental avenue to search for light $H^\pm$ at the LHC.

Production of charged Higgs $H^\pm$ through $cb$-fusion at LHC

Considering the framework of the 2-Higgs Doublet Model Type III (2HDM-III), wherein two doublets are coupled both to up as down fermions, and the Flavour Changin Currents (FCNCs) is controlled by a four-zero Texture approach in the Yukawa matrices. We study the production of charged Higgs ($H^\pm$) by means of $cb$ quark fusion followed by channel decay $H^\pm \to τ^\pm ν$ : $ c b \to H^\pm \to τ^\pm \bar ν$. Taking in account the experimental bounds, as well as the theoretical constraints analysed in previous work arXiv:2003.06263[hep-ph]. One can show that in a lepton-specific-like incarnation of the model, we obtain a significant sensitivity for the LHC machine. We consider in the aforementioned study to both irreducible and reducible backgrounds of the SM.

Spectral Clustering for Jet Physics

We present a new approach to jet definition alternative to clustering methods, such as the anti-$k_T$ scheme, that exploit kinematic data directly. Instead the new method uses kinematic information to represent the particles in a multidimensional space, as in spectral clustering. After confirming its Infra-Red (IR) safety, we compare its performance in analysing $qq\to H_{125\,\text{GeV}} \rightarrow H_{40\,\text{GeV}} H_{40\,\text{GeV}} \rightarrow b \bar{b} b \bar{b}$, $qq\to H_{500\,\text{GeV}} \rightarrow H_{125\,\text{GeV}} H_{125\,\text{GeV}} \rightarrow b \bar{b} b \bar{b}$ and $gg,q\bar q\to t\bar t\to b\bar b W^+W^-\to b\bar b jj \ellν_\ell$ events from Monte Carlo (MC) samples, specifically, in reconstructing the relevant final states, to that of the anti-kT algorithm. Finally, we show that the results for spectral clustering are obtained without any change in the parameter settings of the algorithm, unlike the anti-kT case, which requires the cone size to be adjusted to the physics process under study.

The $Z_3$ soft breaking in the I(2+1)HDM and its probes at present and future colliders

A $ Z_3 $ symmetric 3-Higgs Doublet Model (3HDM) with two inert doublets and one active doublet (that plays the role of the Higgs doublet), the so-called I(2+1)HDM, is studied. We discuss the behaviour of this 3HDM realisation when one allows for a $ Z_3 $ soft breaking term. Such a symmetry enables the presence of a two-component Dark Matter (DM) scenario in the form of "Hermaphrodite DM", where the two inert candidates have opposite CP parity and are protected by this discrete symmetry from decaying into Standard Model (SM) particles. Furthermore, the two DM states are potentially distinguishable from each other as they cannot be subsumed into a complex field, having different masses and gauge couplings. With this in mind, we study differential spectra with a distinctive shape from which the existence of two different DM component distributions could be easily inferred. We prove this to be possible at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) via the $q\bar{q} \to 2l+H_1H_1$ and $q\bar{q} \to 2l+A_1A_1$ processes as well as at a future electron-positron machine via the $e^{+}e^{-} \to 2l+H_1H_1$ and $e^{+}e^{-} \to 2l+A_1A_1$ channels, where $l=e,μ$.

The Dark $Z'$ and Sterile Neutrinos Behind Current Anomalies

We show how, in the $B-L$ extension of the SM (BLSM) with an Inverse Seesaw (IS) mechanism for neutrino mass generation, a light $Z'$ state with moderate couplings to SM objects, hence `dark' in its nature, can be associated, in conjunction with light sterile neutrinos, to some present day data anomalies, such as the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon as well as a possible signal indicating the existence of sterile neutrinos in neutrino beam experiments.

The $Z_3$ symmetric I(2+1)HDM

We introduce a 3-Higgs Doublet Model (3HDM) with two Inert (or dark) scalar doublets and an active Higgs one, hence termed I(2+1)HDM, in the presence of a discrete $Z_3$ symmetry acting upon the three doublet fields. We show that such a construct yields a Dark Matter (DM) sector with two mass-degenerate states of opposite CP parity, both of which contribute to DM dynamics, which we call \textit{Hermaphrodite DM}, distinguishable from a (single) complex DM candidate. We show that the relic density contributions of both states are equal, saturating the observed relic density compliant with (in)direct searches for DM as well as other experimental data impinging on both the dark and Higgs sectors of the model, chiefly, in the form of Electro-Weak Precision Observables (EWPOs), Standard Model (SM)-like Higgs boson measurements at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and void searches for additional (pseudo)scalar states at the CERN machine and previous colliders.

A Review of the Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

Local supersymmetry (SUSY) provides an attractive framework for the incorporation of gravity and unification of gauge interactions within Grand Unified Theories (GUTs). Its breakdown can lead to a variety of models with softly broken SUSY at low energies. In this review article we focus on the SUSY extension of the Standard Model (SM) with an extra U(1)_{N} gauge symmetry originating from a string-inspired E_6 grand unified gauge group. Only in this U(1) extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) inspired by E_6 GUTs the right-handed neutrinos can be superheavy providing a mechanism for the generation of the lepton and baryon asymmetry of the Universe. The particle content of this exceptional supersymmetric standard model (E_6SSM) includes three 27 representations of the E_6 group, to ensure anomaly cancellation, plus a pair of SU(2)_W doublets as required for gauge coupling unification. Thus E_6SSM involves extra exotic matter beyond the MSSM. We consider symmetries that permit to suppress non-diagonal flavour transitions and rapid proton decay, as well as gauge coupling unification, the breakdown of the gauge symmetry and the spectrum of Higgs bosons in this model. The possible Large Hadron Collider (LHC) signatures caused by the presence of exotic states are also discussed.

Alleviating the $\bar B \to D τν$ and $\bar B \to D^* τν_τ$ puzzle in the MSSM

We show that Supersymmetric effects driven by penguin contributions to the $b \to c τν_τ$ transition are able to account simultaneously for a sizeable increase of both branching ratios of $\bar{B}\to D τ\barν_τ$ and $\bar{B} \to D^{*} τ\barν_τ$ with respect to the Standard Model predictions, thereby approaching their experimentally measured values. We emphasise that a light chargino and neutralino, with masses less than 300 GeV, in addition to a large stau/snueutrino mass and a large $\tanβ$, are essential for enhancing the effect of the lepton penguin $τν_τW^{\pm}$, which is responsible for the improved theoretical predictions with respect to current data.

Charged Higgs boson production via $cb-$fusion at the Large Hadron Collider

We analyse the production of a light charged Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) via the quark-fusion mechanism $c \bar{b} \to H^- $ considering the decay channel $H^- \to τ\bar ν_τ$ in the final state. We study this process in the framework of the 2-Higgs Doublet Model Type III (2HDM-III) which assumes a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and a general Higgs potential, wherein the two Higgs doublets coupling to both up and down fermions do generate Flavour Changing Neutral Currents (FCNCs) yet the latter can be controlled by the texture when flavour physics constraints are considered. We consider the parameter space of the model where this signal is enhanced and in agreement with both theoretical constraints and experimental data. In particular, we exploit the setup with lepton-specific-like Yukawa couplings and assess the LHC sensitivity to such $H^\pm$ signals against the dominant {irreducible and} reducible backgrounds. We show that in our model BR$(H^\pm \to cb) \sim 0.1- 0.2$ and BR$(H^\pm \to τν) \sim 0.7-0.9$ so that, under these conditions, the prospects for $H^\pm$ detection in the 2HDM-III in the aforementioned production and decay channels are excellent assuming standard collider energy and luminosity conditions.

Collider signatures of dark CP-violation

We study an extension of the Standard Model (SM) in which two copies of the SM-Higgs doublet which do not acquire a vacuum expectation value, and hence are {\it inert}, are added to the scalar sector. The lightest particle from the inert sector, which is protected from decaying to SM particles through the conservation of a $Z_2$ symmetry, is a viable dark matter candidate. We allow for CP-violation in this extended dark sector and evaluate the $ZZZ$ vertex and its CP-violating form factor in several benchmark scenarios. We provide collider signatures of this dark CP-violation in the form of potentially observable asymmetries and cross sections for the $f\bar f\to Z^*\to ZZ$ process at both leptonic and hadronic machines.

Lepton collider signatures of dark CP violation

We study an extension of the Standard Model (SM) in which two copies of the SM Higgs doublet are added to the scalar sector. These extra doublets do not develop a vacuum expectation value, hence, they are \textit{inert}. This essentially leads to a 3-Higgs Doublet Model (3HDM) with 2 inert and 1 active scalar doublets, which we denote as I(2+1)HDM. We allow for CP-violation in the \textit{inert} sector, where the lightest \textit{inert} state is protected from decaying to SM particles through the conservation of a $Z_2$ symmetry, so that it is a Dark Matter (DM) candidate. For this scenario, we identify a smoking gun signature of dark CP-violation in the form of production thresholds of pairs of \textit{inert} neutral Higgs bosons at an $e^+e^-$ collider.

The sustained post-outburst brightness of Nova Per 2018, the evolved companion, and the long orbital period

Nova Per 2018 (= V392 Per) halted the decline from maximum when it was 2mag brighter than quiescence and since 2019 has been stable at such a plateau. The ejecta have already fully diluted into the interstellar space. We obtained BVRIgrizY photometry and optical spectroscopy of V392 Per during the plateau phase and compared it with equivalent data gathered prior to the nova outburst. We find the companion star to be a G9 IV/III and the orbital period to be 3.4118 days, making V392 Per the longest known period for a classical nova. The location of V392 Per on the theoretical isochrones is intermediate between that of classical novae and novae erupting within symbiotic binaries, in a sense bridging the gap. The reddening is derived to be E(B-V)=0.72 and the fitting to isochrones returns a 3.6 Gyr age for the system and 1.35 Msun, 5.3 Rsun, and 15 Lsun for the companion. The huge Ne overabundance in the ejecta and the very fast decline from nova maximum both point to a massive white dwarf (M(WD) >= 1.1-1.2 Msun). The system is viewed close to pole-on conditions and the current plateau phase is caused by irradiation of the CS by the WD still burning at the surface.

Production of Z'-Boson Resonances with Large Width at the LHC

Di-lepton searches for Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) Z' bosons that rely on the analysis of the Breit-Wigner (BW) line shape are appropriate in the case of narrow resonances, but likely not sufficient in scenarios featuring Z' states with large widths. Conversely, alternative experimental strategies applicable to wide Z' resonances are much more dependent than the default bump search analyses on the modelling of QCD higher-order corrections to the production processes, for both signal and background. For heavy Z' boson searches in the di-lepton channel at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the transverse momentum q_T of the di-lepton system peaks at q_T \ltap 10^{-2} M_{ll}, where M_{ll} is the di-lepton invariant mass. We exploit this to treat the QCD corrections by using the logarithmic resummation methods in M_{ll} / q_T to all orders in the strong coupling constant α_s. We carry out studies of Z' states with large width at the LHC by employing the program {\tt reSolve}, which performs QCD transverse momentum resummation up to Next-to-Next-to-Leading Logarithmic (NNLL) accuracy. We consider two benchmark BSM scenarios, based on the Sequential Standard Model (SSM) and dubbed `SSM wide' and `SSM enhanced'. We present results for the shape and size of Z' boson signals at the differential level, mapped in both cross section (σ) and Forward-Backward Asymmetry (A_{\rm FB}), and perform numerical investigations of the experimental sensitivity at the LHC Run 3 and High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC).

CP violating scalar Dark Matter

We study an extension of the Standard Model (SM) in which two copies of the SM scalar $SU(2)$ doublet which do not acquire a Vacuum Expectation Value (VEV), and hence are \textit{inert}, are added to the scalar sector. We allow for CP-violation in the \textit{inert} sector, where the lightest \textit{inert} state is protected from decaying to SM particles through the conservation of a $Z_2$ symmetry. The lightest neutral particle from the \textit{inert} sector, which has a mixed CP-charge due to CP-violation, is hence a Dark Matter (DM) candidate. We discuss the new regions of DM relic density opened up by CP-violation, and compare our results to the CP-conserving limit and the Inert Doublet Model (IDM). We constrain the parameter space of the CP-violating model using recent results from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and DM direct and indirect detection experiments.

Detection prospects of light NMSSM Higgs pseudoscalar via cascades of heavier scalars from vector boson fusion and Higgs-strahlung

A detection at the Large Hadron Collider of a light Higgs pseudoscalar would, if interpreted in a supersymmetric framework, be a smoking gun signature of non-minimal supersymmetry. In this work in the framework of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model we focus on vector boson fusion and Higgs-strahlung production of heavier scalars that subsequently decay into pairs of light pseudoscalars. We demonstrate that although these channels have in general very limited reach, they are viable for the detection of light pseudoscalars in some parts of parameter space and can serve as an important complementary probe to the dominant gluon-fusion production mode. We also demonstrate that in a Higgsfactory these channels may reach sensitivities comparable to or even exceeding the gluon fusion channels at the LHC, thus possibly rendering this our best option to discover a light pseudoscalar. It is also worth mentioning that for the singlet dominated scalar this may be the only way to measure its couplings to gauge bosons. Especially promising are channels where the initial scalar is radiated off a W as these events have relatively high rates and provide substantial background suppression due to leptons from the W. We identify three benchmark points that well represent the above scenarios. Assuming that the masses of the scalars and pseudoscalars are already measured in the gluon-fusion channel, the event kinematics can be further constrained, hence significantly improving detection prospects. This is especially important in the Higgs-strahlung channels with rather heavy scalars, and results in possible detection at 200/fb for the most favoured parts of the parameter space.

Flavor violating signatures of lighter and heavier Higgs bosons within the Two Higgs Doublet Model Type-III at the LHeC

We analyze the prospects for observing the CP-even neutral Higgs bosons (h and H) in their decays into flavor violating $b \bar s+ c.c.$ channels at the proposed LHeC, with $\sqrt s \approx 1.3$ TeV, in the 2HDM Type-III, assuming a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and a general Higgs potential. We consider theoretically consistent scenarios in agreement with current experimental data from flavor and Higgs physics. We investigate the charged current production process $ν_e ϕq$ in presence of flavor violating decays of the Higgs bosons, that lead to a 3-jets + $E\!\!\!\!/_T$ signature. We demand exactly two jets, one tagged $b$-jet and one light-flavor jet, all in the central rapidity region. The remaining jet (originated by the remanent quark $q$) is tagged in the forward or backward regions and this together with a central jet veto (not more than one light-flavor jet) are essential criterions to enhance the signal--to--background rates. We consider the most relevant Standard Model (SM) backgrounds, treating $c$-jets separately from light-flavor and gluon ones, while allowing for mis-tagging. We find that the SM-like Higgs boson, $h$, would be accessible within several parameter configurations of our model at approximately the 1-2$σ$ level with 100 fb$^{-1}$ of data. We also find that the heaviest neutral Higgs boson, $H$, with mass up to 150 GeV, would have a 1$σ$ significance for the same data sample. At the end of the LHeC running, one would have ten times data accumulation and for all the Higgs masses the significances are enhanced so as to allow for detection of both the $h$ and $H$ state. Hence, one of the most viable extensions of 2HDMs with FCNC's generated at tree level but controlled by a four-zero texture approach in the Yukawa matrices, as opposed to the adoption of ad hoc discrete symmetries, could be put under scrutiny at a future LHeC.

LHC signals of a BLSSM CP-even Higgs boson

We study the scope of the Large Hadron Collider in accessing a neutral Higgs boson of the $B-L$ Supersymmetric Standard Model. After assessing the surviving parameter space configurations following the Run 1 data taking, we investigate the possibilities of detecting this object during Run 2. For the model configurations in which the mixing between such a state and the discovered Standard Model-like Higgs boson is non-negligible, there exist several channels enabling its discovery over a mass range spanning from $\approx 140$ to $\approx$ 500 GeV. For a lighter Higgs state, with mass of order 140 GeV, three channels are accessible: $γγ$, $Zγ$ and $ZZ$, wherein the $Z$ boson decays leptonically. For a heavier Higgs state, with mass above 250 GeV (i.e., twice the mass of the Higgs state discovered in 2012), the hallmark signature is its decay in two such 125 GeV scalars, $h'\to hh$, where $hh\to b\bar b γγ$. In all such cases, significances above discovery can occur for already planned luminosities at the CERN machine.

The 2016 outburst of the unique symbiotic star MWC 560 (= V694 Mon), its long-term BVRI evolution and a marked 331 days periodicity

After 26 years from the major event of 1990, in early 2016 the puzzling symbiotic binary MWC 560 has gone into a new and even brighter outburst. We present our tight BVRI photometric monitoring of MWC 560 (451 independent runs distributed over 357 different nights), covering the 2005-2016 interval, and the current outburst in particoular. A stricking feature of the 2016 outburst has been the suppression of the short term chaotic variability during the rise toward maximum brightness, and its dominance afterward with an amplitude in excess of 0.5 mag. Similar to the 1990 event when the object remained around maximum brightness for ~6 months, at the time Solar conjunction prevented further observations of the current outburst, MWC 560 was still around maximum, three months past reaching it. We place our observations into a long term contex by combining with literature data to provide a complete 1928-2016 lightcurve. Some strong periodicities are found to modulate the optical photometry of MWC 560. A period of 1860 days regulate the occourence of bright phases at BVR bands (with exactly 5.0 cycles separating the 1990 and 2016 outbursts), while the peak brightness attained during bright phases seems to vary with a ~9570 days cycle. A clean 331 day periodicity modulate the I-band lightcurve, where the emission from the M giant dominates, with a lightcurve strongly reminiscent of an ellipsoidal distortion plus irradiation from the hot companion. Pros and cons of 1860 and 331 days as the system orbital period are reviewed, waiting for a spectroscopic radial velocity orbit of the M giant to settle the question (provided the orbit is not oriented face-on).

$A_{FB}$ as a discovery tool for $Z^\prime$ bosons at the LHC

The Forward-Backward Asymmetry (AFB) in $Z^\prime$ physics is commonly only perceived as the observable which possibly allows one to interpret a $Z^\prime$ signal by distinguishing different models of such (heavy) spin-1 bosons. In this article, we examine the potential of AFB in setting bounds on or even discovering a $Z^\prime$ at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and show that it might be a powerful tool for this purpose. We analyze two different scenarios: $Z^\prime$s with a narrow and wide width, respectively. We find that in both cases AFB can complement the cross section in accessing $Z^\prime$ signals.

500 days of Stromgren b, y and narrow-band [OIII], Ha photometric evolution of gamma-ray Nova Del 2013 (= V339 Del)

We present and discuss highly accurate photometry obtained through medium Stromgren y,b bands and narrow [OIII], Halpha bands covering 500 days of the evolution of Nova Del 2013 since its maximum brightness. This is by far the most complete study of any nova observed in such photometric systems. The nova behaviour in these photometric bands is very different from that observed with the more conventional broad bands like UBVRI or ugriz, providing unique information about extent and ionization of the ejecta, the onset of critical phases like the transition between optically thick and thin conditions, and re-ionization by the central super-soft X-ray source. The actual transmission profiles of the y, b, [OIII] and Halpha photometric filters have been accurately measured at different epochs and different illumination angles, to evaluate in detail their performance under exact operating conditions. The extreme smoothness of both the Halpha and [OIII] lightcurves argues for absence of large and abrupt discontinuities in the ejecta of Nova Del 2013. Should they exist, glitches in the lightcurves would have appeared when the ionization and/or recombination fronts overtook them. During the period of recorded very large variability (up to 100x over a single day) in the super-soft X-ray emission (from day +69 to +86 past V maximum), no glitch in excess of 1% was observed in the optical photometry, either in the continuum (Stromgren y) or in the lines ([OIII] and Halpha filters), or in a combination of the two (Stromgren b, Johnson B and V). Considering that the recombination time scale in the ejecta was one week at that time, this excludes global changes of the white dwarf as the source of the X-ray variability and supports instead clumpy ejecta passing through the line of sight to us as its origin.

Analysis of the quark sector in the 2HDM-III with a four-zero Yukawa texture using the most recent data on the CKM matrix

In this letter we analyse, in the context of the general 2-Higgs Doublet Model, the structure of the Yukawa matrices, $\widetilde{ \bf Y}_{ _{1,2} }^{q}$, by assuming a four-zero texture ansatz for their definition. In this framework, we obtain compact expressions for $\widetilde{ \bf Y}_{ _{1,2} }^{q}$, which are reduced to the Cheng and Sher ansatz with the difference that they are obtained naturally as a direct consequence of the invariants of the fermion mass matrices. Furthermore, in order to avoid large flavour violating effects coming from charged Higgs exchange, we consider the main flavour constraints on the off-diagonal terms of Yukawa texture {{$\left( \widetildeχ_{j}^q \right)_{kl}$}} ($k\neq l$). We perform a $χ^2$-fit based on current experimental data on the quark masses and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa mixing matrix ${ \bf V}_{\rm CKM }$. Hence, we obtain the allowed ranges for the parameters $\widetilde{ \bf Y}_{ _{1,2} }^{q}$ at 1$σ$ for several values of $\tan β$. The results are in complete agreement with the bounds obtained taking into account constraints on Flavour Changing Neutral Currents reported in the literature.

Can we have another light (~ 145 GeV) Higgs boson?

A second light Higgs boson, with mass of approximately 145 GeV, is predicted by non-minimal Supersymmetric models. This new particle can account for an apparent \sim 3 σexcess recorded by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) during Run 1. We show how this can be explained in a particular realisation of these scenarios, the (B-L) Supersymmetric Model (BLSSM), which also has other captivating features, like offering an explanation for neutrino masses and relieving the small hierarchy problem of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM).

Decays $h\to γγ, \, γZ$ in the Two Higgs Doublet Model Type III

We study the enhancement of the branching ratios of the decays $h \to γγ, \, γZ$ in the Two Higgs Doublet Model Type III, assuming a four-zero Yukawa Texture and a general Higgs potential. We show that these processes are very sensitive to the flavor pattern of the Yukawa texture and the structure of the triple coupling $h H^\pm H^\mp$ from the Higgs potential. We can accomodate the parameters of the model such that one can obtain the $h \toγγ$ rates reported by the LHC and at the same time we can get a $ h \to γZ$ fraction larger than in the SM and within experimental reach. The possibility of obtaining a light charged Higgs boson within the ensuing parameter space and compatible with current experimental measurements is also presented.

Flavor violating signatures of neutral Higgs bosons at the LHeC

We analyze the prospect for observing the lightest and heaviest CP-even neutral Higgs bosons ($ϕ=h,\;H$) in their decays to flavor violating $b\bar{s}$ (with charge conjugate) final states at the future Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC), in the framework of the Two Higgs Doublet Model type III (2HDM-III) assuming a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and a general Higgs potential. We consider the charge current production processes $e^- p \to ν_e ϕq_f$ ($ϕ= h, \; H$), with the flavor violating decays of the Higgs bosons. We consider scenarios of the model which are consistent with current experimental data from flavor and Higgs physics. We also consider the most relevant Standard Model (SM) backgrounds. We find that the lightest (SM-like) CP-even Higgs boson $h$ and the heaviest one $ H$ (with mass up to 150 GeV) would have 1--2 $Σ$ and 1 $Σ$ significances, respectively, with 100 fb$^{-1}$ of data. At the end of the LHeC running, the significances would be increased by ten times and the detection of both Higgs bosons ($h, H$) would be guaranteed.

Forward-Backward Asymmetry as a Discovery Tool for Z' Bosons at the LHC

The Forward-Backward Asymmetry (AFB) in Z' physics is commonly only perceived as the observable which possibly allows one to interpret a Z' signal by distinguishing different models of such (heavy) spin-1 bosons. In this paper, we examine the potential of AFB in setting bounds on or even discovering a Z' boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and show that it might be a powerful tool for this purpose. We analyse two different scenarios: Z' bosons with a narrow and wide width, respectively. We find that, in the first case, the significance of the AFB search can be comparable with that of the bump search usually adopted by the experimental collaborations; however, being a ratio of (differential) cross sections the AFB has the advantage of reducing systematical errors. In the second case, the AFB search can win over the bump search in terms of event shape, as the structure of the AFB distribution as a function of the invariant mass of the reconstructed Z'boson could nail down the new broad resonance much better than the event counting strategy usually adopted in such cases.

Higgs boson decays into γγ and Zγ in the MSSM and BLSSM

We calculate Higgs decay rates into γγ and Zγ in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and (B-L) Supersymmetric Standard Model (BLSSM) by allowing for contributions from light staus and charginos. We show that sizable departures are possible from the SM predictions for the 125 GeV state and that they are testable during run 2 at the Large Hadron Collider. Furthermore, we illustrate how a second light scalar Higgs signal in either or both these decay modes can be accessed at the CERN machine rather promptly within the BLSSM, a possibility instead precluded to the MSSM owing to the much larger mass of its heavy scalar state.

LHC phenomenology of light pseudoscalars in the NMSSM

After the discovery of the 125 GeV Higgs boson, the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) has become more interesting as a model for new physics since new tree-level contributions to the Higgs mass makes it easier to accommodate the relatively high measured value, as compared to the MSSM. One very distinctive feature of the NMSSM is the possible existence of a light singlet-like pseudoscalar. As this pseudoscalar may be lighter than the discovered Higgs boson without conflict with data, it may lead to LHC signatures rather different to what is usually searched for in terms of new physics. In these proceedings we will discuss studies concerning the discoverability of such light pseudoscalars. It is demonstrated that heavier scalars decaying to pairs of pseudoscalars or pseudoscalars and Z bosons may lead to discovery in a large part of the parameter space. This is especially important for the non-SM like of the two lightest scalars, as it may have an almost 100% branching ratio for decay into pairs of pseudoscalars. In such a case the discussed channels might be our only means of discovery, also for the scalar.

Mono-jet, -photon and -Z Signals of a Supersymmetric (B-L) model at the Large Hadron Collider

Search for invisible final states produced at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by new physics scenarios are normally carried out resorting to a variety of probes emerging from the initial state, in the form of single-jet, -photon and -$Z$ boson signatures. These are particularly effective for models of Supersymmetry (SUSY) in presence of $R$-parity conservation, owing to the presence in their spectra of a stable neutralino as dark matter candidate. We assume here as theoretical framework Supersymmetric ($B-L$) extension of the Standard Model (BLSSM), wherein a mediator for invisible decays can be $Z'$ boson. The peculiarity of the signal is thus that the final state objects carry a very large (transverse) missing energy, since the $Z'$ is naturally massive and constrained by direct searches and electro-weak precision tests to be at least in TeV scale region. Under these circumstances the efficiency in accessing the invisible final state and rejecting the standard model background is very high. This somehow compensates the rather meagre production rates. Another special feature of this invisible BLSSM signal is its composition, which is often dominated by sneutrino decays (alongside the more traditional neutrino and neutralino modes). Sensitivity of the CERN machine to these two features can therefore help disentangling the BLSSM from more popular SUSY models. We assess in this analysis the scope of the LHC in establishing the aforementioned invisible signals through a sophisticated signal-to-background simulation carried out in presence of parton shower, hadronisation and detector effects. We find that significant sensitivity exists already after 300 fb$^{-1}$ during Run 2. We find that mono-jet events can be readily accessible at the LHC, so as to enable one to claim a prompt discovery, while mono-photon and -$Z$ signals can be used as diagnostic tools of the underlying scenario.

Unitarity in composite Higgs approaches with vector resonances

We examine a simple Composite Higgs Model (CHM) with vector resonances in addition to the Standard Model (SM) fields in perturbation theory by using the $K$-matrix method to implement unitarity constraints. We find that the $W_LW_L$ scattering amplitude has an additional scalar pole (analogous to the $σ$ meson of QCD) as in generic strongly interacting extensions of the SM. The mass and width of this dynamically generated scalar resonance are large and the mass behaves contrary to the vector one, so that when the vector resonance is lighter, the scalar one is heavier, and vice versa. We also attempt an interpretation of this new resonance. Altogether, the presence of the vector state with the symmetries of the CHM improve the low-energy unitarity behavior also in the scalar-isoscalar channel.

XQCAT: eXtra Quark Combined Analysis Tool

XQCAT (eXtra Quark Combined Analysis Tool) is a tool aimed at determining exclusion confidence levels for scenarios of new physics characterised by the presence of one or multiple heavy extra quarks which interact through Yukawa couplings with any of the Standard Model quarks. The code uses a database of efficiencies for pre-simulated processes of QCD-induced pair production of extra quarks and their subsequent on-shell decays. In the version 1.2 of XQCAT the efficiencies have been computed for a set of seven publicly available search results by the CMS experiment. The input for the code is a text file in which masses, branching ratios and dominant chirality of the couplings of the new quarks are provided. The output of the code is the exclusion confidence levels of the test point for each implemented experimental analysis considered individually and, when possible, in statistical combination.

Z'-induced Invisible Right-handed Sneutrino Decays at the LHC

The invisible signals of right-handed sneutrino decays originating from a Z' are analysed at the Large Hadron Collider. The possibility of accessing these events helps disentangling the B-L extension of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model from more popular scenarios of Supersymmetry. We assess the scope of the CERN machine in establishing the aforementioned signatures when accompanied by mono-jet, single-photon or Z-radiation probes through sophisticated signal-to-background simulations carried out in presence of parton shower, hadronisation as well as detector effects. We find substantial sensitivity to all such signals for standard luminosities at Run 2.

$H^\pm\to cb$ in models with two or more Higgs doublets

Searches for light $H^\pm$s via $t\to H^\pm b$ are being carried out at the LHC. Herein, it is normally assumed that the dominant decay channels are $H^\pm\to τν$ and $H^\pm\to cs$ and separate data analyses are performed with comparable sensitivity to the underlying model assumptions. However, the $H^\pm\to cb$ decay rate can be as large as $80\%$ in models with two or more Higgs doublets with natural flavour conservation, while satisfying the constraint from $b\to sγ$ for $m_{H^\pm}< m_t$. Despite the current search strategy for $H^\pm\to cs$ is also sensitive to $H^\pm\to cb$, a significant gain in sensitivity could be obtained by tagging the $b$ quark from the decay $H^\pm\to cb$.

125 GeV Higgs Boson signal within the complex NMSSM

While the properties of the 125 GeV Higgs boson-like particle observed by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations are largely compatible with those predicted for the Standard Model state, significant deviations are present in some cases. We, therefore, test the viability of a Beyond the Standard Model scenario based on Supersymmetry, the CP-violating Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, against the corresponding experimental observations. Namely, we identify possible model configurations in which one of its Higgs bosons is consistent with the LHC observation and evaluate the role of the explicit complex phases in both the mass and diphoton decay of such a Higgs boson. Through a detailed analysis of some benchmark points corresponding to each of these configurations, we highlight the impact of the CP-violating phases on the model predictions compared to the CP-conserving case.

Framework for Model Independent Analyses of Multiple Extra Quark Scenarios

In this paper we present an analysis strategy and a dedicated tool to determine the exclusion confidence level for any scenario involving multiple heavy extra quarks with generic decay channels, as predicted in several extensions of the Standard Model. We have created, validated and used a software package, called XQCAT (eXtra Quark Combined Analysis Tool), which is based on publicly available experimental data from direct searches for top partners and from Supersymmetry inspired searches. By means of this code, we recast the limits from CMS on new heavy extra quarks considering a complete set of decay channels. The resulting exclusion confidence levels are presented for some simple scenarios with multiple states and general coupling assumptions. Highlighting the importance of combining multiple topology searches to obtain accurate re-interpretations of the existing searches, we discuss the reach of the SUSY analyses so as to set bounds on new quark resonances. In particular, we report on the re-interpretation of the existing limits on benchmark scenarios with one and multiple pair-produced top partners having non-exclusive couplings to the third Standard Model generation of quarks.

Impact of a four-zero Yukawa texture on $h\to γγ$ and $γZ$ in the framework of the Two Higgs Doublet Model Type III

We study the substantial enhancement, with respect to the corresponding Standard Model rates, that can be obtained for the branching ratios of the decay channels $h \to γγ$ and $h\to γZ$ within the framework of the Two Higgs Doublet Model Type III, assuming a four-zero Yukawa texture and a general Higgs potential. We show that these processes are very sensitive to the flavor pattern entering the Yukawa texture and to the triple coupling structure of the Higgs potential, both of which impact onto the aforementioned decays. We can accommodate the parameters of the model in such a way to obtain the $h \to γγ$ rates reported by the Large Hadron Collider and at the same time we get a $h\to γZ$ fraction much larger than in the Standard Model, indeed within experimental reach. We present some scenarios where this phenomenology is realized for spectrum configurations that are consistent with current constraints. We also discuss the possibility of obtaining a light charged Higgs boson compatible with all such measurements, thereby serving the purpose of providing a hallmark signal of the scenario considered.

Multiple Z' -> t-tbar signals in a 4D Composite Higgs Model

We study the production of top-antitop pairs at the Large Hadron Collider as a testbed for discovering heavy Z' bosons belonging to a composite Higgs model, as, in this scenario, such new gauge interaction states are sizeably coupled to the third generation quarks of the Standard Model. We study their possible appearance in cross section as well as (charge and spin) asymmetry distributions. Our calculations are performed in the minimal four-dimensional formulation of such a scenario, namely the 4-Dimensional Composite Higgs Model (4DCHM), which embeds five new $Z'$s. We pay particular attention to the case of nearly degenerate resonances, highlighting the conditions under which these are separable in the aforementioned observables. We also discuss the impact of the intrinsic width of the new resonances onto the event rates and various distributions. We confirm that the 14 TeV stage of the LHC will enable one to detect two such states, assuming standard detector performance and machine luminosity. A mapping of the discovery potential of the LHC of these new gauge bosons is given. Finally, from the latter, several benchmarks are extracted which are amenable to experimental investigation.

Variations on a Higgs theme

We show how the $Z$ boson can be generated in gluon-gluon fusion and yield two photons, via $gg\to Z\to γγ$, through massive fermion loops only, thereby contributing events to a candidate Higgs sample in the di-photon channel. A sub-leading contribution also exists from $q\bar q\to Z\toγγ$ events. Assuming the Standard Model, the corresponding event rates are negligible at the LHC stages of 7, 8 TeV, given the luminosities collected therein (about 5 and 20 fb$^{-1}$, respectively). Conversely, at 14 TeV, the first process become accessible for luminosities of order 300 fb$^{-1}$. Finally, we show how additional fermion states entering such loops, in production, in decay or in both cases, could affect the predictions in this channel by curiously mimicking Higgs signals.

A simple symmetry as a guide toward new physics beyond the Standard Model

There exists one experimental result that cannot be explained by the Standard Model (SM), the current theoretical framework for particle physics: non-zero masses for the neutrinos (elementary particles travelling close to light speed, electrically neutral and weakly interacting). The SM assumes that they are massless. Therefore, particle physicists are now exploring new physics beyond the SM. There is strong anticipation that we are about to unravel it, in the form of new matter and/or forces, at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), presently running at CERN. We discuss a minimal extension of the SM, based on a somewhat larger version of its symmetry structure and particle content, that can naturally explain the existence of neutrino masses while also predicting novel signals accessible at the LHC, including a light Higgs boson, as evidenced by current data.

Dependence of the leptonic decays of H^- on the neutrino mixing angles theta_{13} and theta_{23} in models with neutrinophilic charged scalars

In the Higgs Triplet Model and the neutrinophilic Two-Higgs-Doublet Model the observed neutrinos obtain mass from a vacuum expectation value which is much smaller than the vacuum expectation value of the Higgs boson in the Standard Model. Both models contain a singly charged Higgs boson (H^-) whose Yukawa coupling is directly related to the neutrino mass (i.e. a "neutrinophilic charged Higgs"). The partial decay widths of H^- into a charged lepton and a neutrino (H^- to l^- nu) depend identically on the neutrino masses and mixings in the two models. We quantify the impact of the recent measurement of sin^2(2theta_{13}), which plays a crucial role in determining the magnitude of the branching ratio of H^- to e^- nu for the case of a normal neutrino mass ordering if the lightest neutrino mass m_0 < 10^{-3} eV. We also discuss the sizeable dependence of H^- to mu^- nu and H^- to tau^- nu on sin^2(theta_{23}), which would enable information to be obtained on sin^2(theta_{23}) and the sign of Δm^2_{31} if these decays are measured. Such information would help neutrino oscillation experiments to determine the CP-violating phase δ.

First Look at the Physics Case of TLEP

The discovery by the ATLAS and CMS experiments of a new boson with mass around 125 GeV and with measured properties compatible with those of a Standard-Model Higgs boson, coupled with the absence of discoveries of phenomena beyond the Standard Model at the TeV scale, has triggered interest in ideas for future Higgs factories. A new circular e+e- collider hosted in a 80 to 100 km tunnel, TLEP, is among the most attractive solutions proposed so far. It has a clean experimental environment, produces high luminosity for top-quark, Higgs boson, W and Z studies, accommodates multiple detectors, and can reach energies up to the t-tbar threshold and beyond. It will enable measurements of the Higgs boson properties and of Electroweak Symmetry-Breaking (EWSB) parameters with unequalled precision, offering exploration of physics beyond the Standard Model in the multi-TeV range. Moreover, being the natural precursor of the VHE-LHC, a 100 TeV hadron machine in the same tunnel, it builds up a long-term vision for particle physics. Altogether, the combination of TLEP and the VHE-LHC offers, for a great cost effectiveness, the best precision and the best search reach of all options presently on the market. This paper presents a first appraisal of the salient features of the TLEP physics potential, to serve as a baseline for a more extensive design study.

Light Chargino Effects onto H -> gamma gamma in the MSSM

We analyse the implications of light charginos on the Higgs boson signal strength via gluon-gluon fusion and di-photon decay in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We show that enhancements are possible with a rate up to 25%. We also prove that they are possible for a high scale constrained version of the MSSM with non-universal Higgs and gaugino masses. In contrast, effects due to light charged Higgs bosons, that we also have investigated, are generically negligible in the γγdecay, though they may affect the b \bar b rate, hence the total width.

Off-diagonal terms in Yukawa textures of the Type-III 2-Higgs doublet model and light charged Higgs boson phenomenology

We discuss flavor-violating constraints and consequently possible charged Higgs boson phenomenology emerging from a four-zero Yukawa texture embedded within the Type-III 2-Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM-III). Firstly, we show in detail how we can obtain several kinds of 2HDMs when some parameters in the Yukawa texture are absent. Secondly, we present a comprehensive study of the main B-physics constraints on such parameters induced by flavor-changing processes, in particular on the off-diagonal terms of such a texture: i.e., from $μ-e$ universality in $τ$ decays, several leptonic B-decays ($B \to τν$, $D \to μν$ and $D_s \to {l} ν$), the semi-leptonic transition $B\to D τν$, plus $B \to X_s γ$, including $B^0-\bar B^0$ mixing, $B_s \to μ^+ μ^-$ and the radiative decay $Z\to b \bar{b}$. Thirdly, having selected the surviving 2HDM-III parameter space, we show that the $H^- c \bar{b}$ coupling can be very large over sizable expanses of it, in fact, a very different situation with respect to 2HDMs with a flavor discrete symmetry (i.e., ${\mathcal{Z}}_2$) and very similar to the case of the Aligned-2HDM (A2HDM) as well as of models with three or more Higgs doublets. Fourthly, we study in detail the ensuing $H^\pm$ phenomenology at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), chiefly the $c\bar b \to H^+$ production mode and the $H^+\to c\bar b$ decay channel while assuming $τ^+ν_τ$ decays in the former and $t\to bH^+$ production in the latter, showing that significant scope exists in both cases.

Right-handed sneutrino-antisneutrino oscillations in a TeV scale Supersymmetric B-L model

We explore right-handed sneutrino-antisneutrino mixing in a TeV scale B-L extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), (B-L)SSM, where a type I seesaw mechanism of light neutrino mass generation is naturally implemented. The constraints imposed on the mass splitting between heavy right-handed sneutrino and the corresponding antisneutrino by the experimental limits set on the light neutrino masses are investigated. We also study direct pair production of such right-handed sneutrinos at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and its decay modes, emphasising that their decay into same-sign di-lepton pairs are salient features for probing these particles at the CERN machine. Finally, the charge asymmetry present in such same-sign di-lepton signals is also analysed and confirms itself as a further useful handle to extract information about the oscillation dynamics.

Uncovering quasi-degenerate Kaluza-Klein Electro-Weak gauge bosons with top asymmetries at the LHC

By exploiting the correlation between charge and spin polarisation asymmetries in t-tbar, we show that combining the two observables could identify the presence of quasi-degenerate states in a resonant signal at the LHC. As an example, we investigate experimental signatures emerging in top-antitop final states in the context of a model where the Standard Model Electro-Weak sector is allowed to propagate in large extra--dimensions of TeV^-1 size while the colour sector is localised. Assuming current experimantal constraints from the 7 and 8 TeV runs and taking into account the estimated top (anti-top) reconstruction efficiencies, we find that the 14 TeV upgraded LHC with the planned integrated luminosity L=100 fb^-1 could access these quasi-degenerate multiple resonances and explore for the first time the rich phenomenology in the asymmetry observables. The main outcome would be having measurable quantities, complementary to the usual total and differential cross sections, capable of distiguishing a quasi-degenerate multiply resonant spectrum from a `standard' single resonance that could present a similar signal in a bump hunt analysis.

Update of the 2HDM-III with a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices and phenomenology of the charged Higgs Boson

We update the flavor-violating constraints on the charged Higgs sector of the 2-Higgs Doublet Model Type-III (2HDM-III), using a four-zero texture in the Yukawa matrices. We give a generic Lagrangian of the 2HDM-III. In order to show the relevance of the off-diagonal terms of such a texture, we utilize the main constraints from $B$-physics, $μ-e$ universality in $τ$ decays and the radiative decay $Z\to b \bar{b}$ presented recently in arXiv:1212.6818 [hep-ph]. In particular, we show that the $H^- c \bar{b}$ coupling can be very large and very different with respect to 2HDMs with a flavor discrete symmetry (i.e., ${\mathcal{Z}}_2$). We also discuss the possible enhancements of the vertices $H^\pm W^\mp V$ ($V=Z, γ$) that arise at one-loop level.

Charged di-boson production at the LHC in a 4-site model with a composite Higgs boson

We investigate the scope of the LHC in probing the parameter space of a 4-site model supplemented by one composite Higgs state, assuming all past, current and future energy and luminosity stages of the CERN machine. We concentrate on the yield of charged di-boson production giving two opposite-charge different-flavour leptons and missing (transverse) energy, i.e., events induced via the subprocess $q\bar q\to e^+ν_e μ^-\barν_μ$ + ${\rm{c.c.}}$, which enables the production in the intermediate step of all additional neutral and charged gauge bosons belonging to the spectrum of this model, some of which in resonant topologies. We find this channel accessible over the background at all LHC configurations after a dedicated cut-based analysis. We finally compare the yield of the di-boson mode to that of Drell-Yan processes and establish that they have complementary strengths, one covering regions of parameter space precluded to the others and vice versa.

Constrained Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model with a Higgs Near 125 GeV

We study the parameter space of the constrained exceptional supersymmetric standard model (cE6SSM) consistent with a Higgs signal near 125 GeV and the LHC searches for squarks, gluinos and Z'. The cE6SSM parameter space consistent with correct electroweak symmetry breaking, is represented by scans in the (m0, M1/2) plane for fixed Z' mass and tan beta, with squark, gluino and Higgs masses plotted as contours in this plane. We find that a 125 GeV Higgs mass only arises for a sufficiently large Z' mass, mostly above current limits, and for particular regions of squark and gluino masses corresponding to multi-TeV squark masses, but with lighter gluinos typically within reach of the LHC 8 TeV or forthcoming 14 TeV runs. Successful dark matter relic abundance may be achieved over all the parameter space, assuming a bino-like LSP with a nearby heavier inert Higgsino doublet and decoupled inert singlinos, resulting in conventional gluino decay signatures. A set of typical benchmark points with a Higgs near 125 GeV is provided which exemplifies these features.

Enhancement of H to gamma gamma from doubly charged scalars in the Higgs Triplet Model

The Higgs boson of the Standard Model is being searched for at the LHC in the channel H -> gamma gamma. In the Higgs Triplet Model (HTM) there are contributions to this decay from loops of doubly charged scalars (H^{\pm\pm}) and singly charged scalars (H^\pm) that are not present in the Standard Model. These additional contributions are mediated by the trilinear couplings H_1 H^{++}H^{--} and H_1 H^{+}H^{-}, where H_1 is the lightest CP-even Higgs boson. We point out the possibility of constructive interference of the H^{\pm\pm} contribution with that of the W^\pm contribution, which enables a substantial enhancement of the branching ratio of H_1 -> gamma gamma in the HTM. The magnitude of the contribution of $H^{\pm\pm}$ is essentially determined by the mass of H^{\pm\pm} (m_{H^{\pm\pm}}) and a quartic scalar coupling (λ_1), with constructive interference arising for λ_1 < 0. Consequently, the ongoing searches for H -> gamma gamma restrict the parameter space of [m_{H^{\pm\pm}},λ_1] more stringently for λ_1 < 0 than for the recently-studied case of destructive interference with λ_1 > 0. Moreover, if the excess of gamma gamma events around a mass of 125 GeV in the LHC searches for H -> gamma gamma is substantiated with larger data samples, and the branching ratio is measured to be somewhat larger than that for the SM Higgs boson, then such an enhancement could be readily accommodated by H_1 in the HTM with λ_1 <0.

Five-lepton and six-lepton signatures from production of neutral triplet scalars in the Higgs Triplet Model

The neutral triplet scalars (H^0, A^0) in the Higgs Triplet Model (HTM) are difficult to detect at the LHC for the case of mass degeneracy with the singly charged (H^+) and doubly charged (H^++) scalars. A non-zero value of a specific quartic coupling in the scalar potential removes this degeneracy, and positive values of this coupling would give rise to the mass hierarchy m_{A^0,H^0} > m_{H^+} > m_{H^++}. In this scenario the decays H^0-> H^+ W^* and A^0-> H^+ W^*, followed by H^+ -> H^{++} W^*, can proceed with large branching ratios, even for small mass splittings among the triplet scalars. Such a cascade process would lead to production of H^{++}H^{--} accompanied by several virtual W bosons, and would provide a way of observing H^0 and A^0 with a signature which is different from that of the conventional production process for doubly charged scalars, q qbar -> γ^*, Z^* -> H^{++}H^{--}. Assuming the decay H^{++} to l^+ l^+, we quantify the magnitude of the five-lepton and six-lepton signals in these channels, which have essentially negligible backgrounds at the LHC.

Heavy neutrinos, Z' and Higgs bosons at the LHC: new particles from an old symmetry

A new era in particle physics is being spurred on by new data from the Large Hadron Collider. Non-vanishing neutrino masses represent firm observational evidence of new physics beyond the Standard Model. An extension of the latter, based on a SU(3)_C x SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y x U(1)_{B-L} symmetry, incorporating an established Baryon minus Lepton number invariance, is proposed as a viable and testable solution to the neutrino mass problem. We argue that LHC data will probe all the new content of this model: heavy neutrinos, an extra gauge boson emerging from spontaneous breaking of the additional gauge group at the TeV scale, onset by a new heavier Higgs boson, also visible at the CERN proton-proton collider. An even more exciting version of this model is the one exploiting Supersymmetry: firstly, it incorporates all its well known benefits; secondly, it alleviates the flaws of its more minimal realisations. Finally, this model provides a credible cold Dark Matter candidate, the lightest sneutrino, detectable in both underground and collider experiments.

Light charged Higgs bosons decaying to charm and bottom quarks in models with two or more Higgs doublets

Searches for light charged Higgs bosons (H^\pm) in the decay of top quarks, t -> H^\pm b, are being carried out at the LHC and at the Tevatron. It is assumed that the dominant decay channels for such an H^\pm state are either H^\pm -> τνor H^\pm -> cs, and separate searches are performed with comparable sensitivity to the parameters m_{H^\pm} and tanbeta of the scalar potential. The branching ratio for the decay H^\pm -> cb can be as large as 80% in the Aligned Two Higgs Doublet Model and in models with three or more Higgs doublets with natural flavour conservation, while satisfying the constraint from b -> s gamma for m_{H^\pm} < m_t. Although the current search strategy for H^\pm -> cs is also sensitive to H^\pm -> cb, a considerable gain in sensitivity could be obtained by tagging the b quark from the decay H^\pm -> cb. Such an analysis, which could be readily performed at the Tevatron and in the 7 TeV and 8 TeV runs of the LHC, would probe a parameter space of the fermionic couplings of H^\pm in the above models which at present cannot be probed by experimental observables in flavour physics.

Non-exotic $Z'$ signals in $\ell^+\ell^-$, $b\bar b$ and $t\bar t$ final states at the LHC

In the attempt to fully profile a $Z'$ boson accessible at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), we study the sensitivity of di-lepton (for the electron, muon and tauon cases) and di-quark (for the case of the heavy flavours, $t$ and, possibly, $b$) samples to the nature of the new gauge state, for a one-dimensional class of non-exotic $Z'$ bosons. Assuming realistic final state reconstruction efficiencies and error estimates, we find that, depending on the CERN collider energy and luminosity, the best chances of extracting the $Z'$ quantum numbers occur when two or more of these channels are simultaneously explored, as none of them separately enables one to fully probe the parameter spaces of the aforementioned models. Effects of Standard Model (SM) background as well interferences between this and the various $Z'$ signals have been accounted for. A complete study of cross sections and asymmetries (both spatial and spin ones) makes clear the need for complementarity, especially for their disentanglement over the full parameter space.

We investigate the effect of one-loop corrections of ${\cal O}(α_S^2α_W)$ on the $t\bar t$ invariant mass spectrum at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in presence of both resonant and non-resonant Higgs boson effects. We show that corrections of ${\cal O}(α_S^2α_W)$ involving a non-resonant Higgs boson are comparable to or even larger than those involving interference with the s-channel resonant Higgs boson amplitude and that both of these are subleading with respect to all other (non-Higgs) diagrams through that order. We also compute the contribution through ${\cal O}(α_S^2α_W^2)$ of resonant Higgs boson production (i.e. Higgs production via $gg$ fusion) as well as the pure QCD ones of ${\cal O}(α_S^3)$. Altogether, we show that the well known peak-dip structure of the $M_{t\bar t}$ spectrum emerging from interference effects between the $t,u$-channel $gg$-induced Leading Order (LO) QCD diagrams and the one due to a Higgs boson in s-channel via $gg$-fusion is drastically swamped by the remainder of the terms of ${\cal O}(α_S^2α_W)$ discussed above.

Probing the charged Higgs boson at the LHC in the CP-violating type-II 2HDM

We present a phenomenological study of a CP-violating two-Higgs-doublet Model with type-II Yukawa couplings at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In the light of recent LHC data, we focus on the parameter space that survives the current and past experimental constraints as well as theoretical bounds on the model. Once the phenomenological scenario is set, we analyse the scope of the LHC in exploring this model through the discovery of a charged Higgs boson produced in association with a W boson, with the former decaying into the lightest neutral Higgs and a second W state, altogether yielding a b\bar b W^+W^- signature, of which we exploit the W^+W^- semileptonic decays.

Proposal for generalised Supersymmetry Les Houches Accord for see-saw models and PDG numbering scheme

The SUSY Les Houches Accord (SLHA) 2 extended the first SLHA to include various generalisations of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) as well as its simplest next-to-minimal version. Here, we propose further extensions to it, to include the most general and well-established see-saw descriptions (types I/II/III, inverse, and linear) in both an effective and a simple gauged extension of the MSSM framework. In addition, we generalise the PDG numbering scheme to reflect the properties of the particles.

We demonstrate that exploiting asymmetry observables represents a promising way to distinguish between a selection of benchmark Z' models due to their unique dependences on the chiral couplings of the new gauge boson.

Top quark phenomenology of the ADD model and the Minimal Length Scenario

We study top-(anti)quark pair production at the Tevatron and Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the context of the Minimal Length Scenario (MLS) of the Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos and Dvali (ADD) model of extra dimensions (XDs). We show that sizable effects onto both the integrated and differential cross section due to graviton mediation are expected for a String scale, M_S, of O(1-10TeV) and several XDs, δ, all compatible with current experimental constraints. Potential limits on M_S are extracted. We also highlight clear phenomenological differences between a simple ADD scenario and its modification based on using the MLS as a natural regulator for divergent amplitudes of virtual KK graviton exchange.

Collider phenomenology of the E6SSM

We consider collider signatures of the exceptional supersymmetric (SUSY) standard model (E6SSM). This E6 inspired SUSY model is based on the SM gauge group together with an extra U(1) gauge symmetry under which right--handed neutrinos have zero charge. To ensure anomaly cancellation and gauge coupling unification the low energy matter content of the E6SSM involve extra exotic matter beyond the MSSM. We discuss the collider signatures associated with the production of new particles predicted by the E6SSM and consider the implications of this model for dark matter and Higgs phenomenology. Since exotic quarks in the E6SSM can be either diquarks or leptoquarks they may provide spectacular new physics signals at the LHC.

Formation of a disk structure in the symbiotic binary AX Per during its 2007-10 precursor-type activity

AX Per is an eclipsing symbiotic binary. During active phases, deep narrow minima are observed in its light curve, and the ionization structure in the binary changes significantly. From 2007.5, AX Per entered a new active phase. It was connected with a significant enhancement of the hot star wind. Simultaneously, we identified a variable optically thick warm (Teff ~ 6000 K) source that contributes markedly to the composite spectrum. The source was located at the hot star's equator and has the form of a flared disk, whose outer rim simulates the warm photosphere. The formation of the neutral disk-like zone around the accretor during the active phase was connected with its enhanced wind. We suggested that this connection represents a common origin of the warm pseudophotospheres that are indicated during the active phases of symbiotic stars.

Higgs Mass Corrections in the SUSY B-L Model with Inverse Seesaw

In the context of the Supersymmetric (SUSY) B-L (Baryon minus Lepton number) model with an inverse seesaw mechanism, we calculate the one-loop radiative corrections due to right-handed (s)neutrinos to the mass of the lightest Higgs boson when the latter is Standard Model (SM)-like. We show that such effects can be as large as O(100) GeV, thereby giving an absolute upper limit on such a mass around 200 GeV. The importance of this result from a phenomenological point of view is twofold. On the one hand, this enhancement greatly reconciles theory and experiment, by alleviating the so-called `little hierarchy problem' of the minimal SUSY realization, whereby the current experimental limit on the SM-like Higgs mass is very near its absolute upper limit predicted theoretically, of 130 GeV. On the other hand, a SM-like Higgs boson with mass below 200 GeV is still well within the reach of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), so that the SUSY realization discussed here is just as testable as the minimal version.

LHC Signatures of the Constrained Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

We discuss two striking Large Hadron Collider (LHC) signatures of the constrained version of the exceptional supersymmetric standard model (cE6SSM), based on a universal high energy soft scalar mass m_0, soft trilinear coupling A_0 and soft gaugino mass M_{1/2}. The first signature we discuss is that of light exotic colour triplet charge 1/3 fermions, which we refer to as D-fermions. We calculate the LHC production cross section of D-fermions, and discuss their decay patterns. Secondly we discuss the E6 type U(1)_N spin-1 Z' gauge boson and show how it may decay into exotic states, increasing its width and modifying the line shape of the dilepton final state. We illustrate these features using two representative cE6SSM benchmark points, including an "early LHC discovery" point, giving the Feynman rules and numerical values for the relevant couplings in order to facilitate further studies.

Production of doubly charged scalars from the decay of a heavy SM-like Higgs boson in the Higgs Triplet Model

The Higgs Triplet Model (HTM) of neutrino mass generation predicts the existence of doubly charged Higgs bosons (H^{\pm\pm}). In the HTM a scalar eigenstate (H_2) is dominantly composed of the scalar field from the isospin doublet, and could be significantly heavier than H^{\pm\pm}. Such a scenario would allow the possibility of a large branching ratio for the decay H_2-> H^{++}H^{--}. From the production mechanism of gluon-gluon fusion, gg-> H_2, the above decay mode would give rise to pair production of doubly charged Higgs bosons (H^{++}H^{--}) with a cross section which could be significantly larger than the cross sections for the standard production mechanisms qqbar -> γ,Z-> H^{++}H^{--} and q'qbar -> W -> H^{\pm\pm}H^{\mp}. We discuss the phenomenological consequences for the ongoing searches for H^{\pm\pm} at the Tevatron and at the LHC.

Higgs phenomenology in the minimal $B-L$ extension of the Standard Model at LHC

We present some phenomenology of the Higgs sector of the Minimal $B-L$ U(1) Extension of the Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider. In this model, the existence of an extra gauge boson ($Z'$) and an extra scalar (heavy Higgs) are predicted as naturally related with the breaking of the $B-L$ (baryon minus lepton number) symmetry. For this, we have started by deriving the unitarity bounds in the high energy limit for the Minimal $B-L$ Model parameter space. This was accomplished by analysing the full class of Higgs and would-be Goldstone boson two-to-two scatterings at tree level (exploiting the Equivalence Theorem). Hence, we studied some peculiar signature that could be observed at the CERN machine in the search of both light and heavy Higgs bosons.

New Physics at the LHC. A Les Houches Report: Physics at TeV Colliders 2009 - New Physics Working Group

We present a collection of signatures for physics beyond the standard model that need to be explored at the LHC. First, are presented various tools developed to measure new particle masses in scenarios where all decays include an unobservable particle. Second, various aspects of supersymmetric models are discussed. Third, some signatures of models of strong electroweak symmetry are discussed. In the fourth part, a special attention is devoted to high mass resonances, as the ones appearing in models with warped extra dimensions. Finally, prospects for models with a hidden sector/valley are presented. Our report, which includes brief experimental and theoretical reviews as well as original results, summarizes the activities of the "New Physics" working group for the "Physics at TeV Colliders" workshop (Les Houches, France, 8-26 June, 2009).

Production of Light Higgs Pairs in 2-Higgs Doublet Models via the Higgs-strahlung Process at the LHC

At the Large Hadron Collider, we prove the feasibility to detect pair production of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson h of a Type II 2-Higgs Doublet Model through the process q \bar q' --> Vhh (Higgs-strahlung, V=W+-,Z), in presence of two h --> b \bar b decays. We also show that, through such production and decay channels, one has direct access to the following Higgs self-couplings, thus enabling one to distinguish between a standard and the Supersymmetric version of the above model: lambda_(Hhh) -- which constrains the form of the Higgs potential -- as well as lambda_(W+- H+- h) and lambda_(Z A h) -- which are required by gauge invariance. Unfortunately, such claims cannot be extended to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, where the extraction of the same signals is impossible.

Strong and Electro-Weak Supersymmetric Corrections to Single Top Processes at the Large Hadron Collider

We present the one-loop corrections originating from Quantum Chromo-Dynamics (QCD) and Electro-Weak (EW) interactions of Supersymmetric (SUSY) origin within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) to the single-top processes bq -> tq' and qbar q' -> tbar b. We illustrate their impact onto top quark observables accessible at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the 't+jet' final state, such as total cross section, several differential distributions and left-right plus forward-backward asymmetries. We find that in many instances these effects can be observable for planned LHC energies and luminosities, quite large as well as rather sensitive to several MSSM parameters.

We carry out a detailed comparison between the discovery regions mapped over a two-dimensional configuration space ($Z'$ mass and coupling) at the Large Hadron Collider and possible future Linear Colliders for the case of di-muon production. As known in the literature for other $Z'$ models, we confirm that leptonic machines, as compared to the CERN hadronic accelerator, display an additional potential in discovering a $Z'$ boson as well as in allowing one to study its properties at a level of precision well beyond that of any of the existing colliders.

Phenomenological Consequences of the Constrained Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

The Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E$_6$SSM) provides a low energy alternative to the MSSM, with an extra gauged U(1)$_N$ symmetry, solving the $μ$-problem of the MSSM. Inspired by the possible embedding into an E$_6$ GUT, the matter content fills three generations of E$_6$ multiplets, thus predicting exciting exotic matter such as diquarks or leptoquarks. We present predictions from a constrained version of the model (cE$_6$SSM), with a universal scalar mass $m_0$, trilinear mass $A$ and gaugino mass $M_{1/2}$. We reveal a large volume of the cE$_6$SSM parameter space where the correct breakdown of the gauge symmetry is achieved and all experimental constraints satisfied. We predict a hierarchical particle spectrum with heavy scalars and light gauginos, while the new exotic matter can be light or heavy depending on parameters. We present representative cE$_6$SSM scenarios, demonstrating that there could be light exotic particles, like leptoquarks and a U(1)$_N$ Z' boson, with spectacular signals at the LHC.

Phenomenology of the minimal B-L extension of the Standard Model

We present the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) discovery potential in the $Z'$ and heavy neutrino sectors of a $U(1)_{B-L}$ enlarged Standard Model also encompassing three heavy Majorana neutrinos. This model exhibits novel signatures at the LHC, the most interesting arising from a $Z'$ decay chain involving heavy neutrinos, eventually decaying into leptons and jets. In particular, this signature allows one to measure the $Z'$ and heavy neutrino masses involved. In addition, over a large region of parameter space, the heavy neutrinos are rather long-lived particles producing distinctive displaced vertices that can be seen in the detectors. Lastly, the simultaneous measurement of both the heavy neutrino mass and decay length enables an estimate of the absolute mass of the parent light neutrino. For completeness, we will also compare the LHC and a future Linear Collider (LC) discovery potentials.

Predictions of the Constrained Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model

We discuss the predictions of a constrained version of the exceptional supersymmetric standard model (cE6SSM), based on a universal high energy soft scalar mass m_0, soft trilinear coupling A_0 and soft gaugino mass M_1/2. We predict a supersymmetry (SUSY) spectrum containing a light gluino, a light wino-like neutralino and chargino pair and a light bino-like neutralino, with other sparticle masses except the lighter stop being much heavier. In addition, the cE6SSM allows the possibility of light exotic colour triplet charge 1/3 fermions and scalars, leading to early exotic physics signals at the LHC. We focus on the possibility of a Z' gauge boson with mass close to 1 TeV, and low values of (m0,M_1/2), which would correspond to an LHC discovery using "first data", and propose a set of benchmark points to illustrate this.

Yukawa txtures and charged Higgs boson phenomenology in the type-III two-Higgs-doublet model

We discuss the implications of assuming a four-zero Yukawa texture for the properties of the charged Higgs boson within the context of the general 2-Higgs Doublet Model of Type III. We begin by presenting a detailed analysis of the charged Higgs boson couplings with heavy quarks and the resulting pattern for its decays. The production of charged Higgs bosons is also sensitive to the modifications of its couplings, so that we also evaluate the resulting effects on the top decay $t \to b H^{+}$ as well as on `direct' $c\bar{b}\to H^++c. c.$ and `indirect' $q\bar q,gg\to \bar t b H^++c. c.$ production. Significant scope exists at the Large Hadron Collider for several $H^\pm$ production and decay channels combined to enable one to distinguish between such a model and alternative 2-Higgs doublet scenarios.

Benchmark scenarios for the NMSSM

We discuss constrained and semi--constrained versions of the next--to--minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (NMSSM) in which a singlet Higgs superfield is added to the two doublet superfields that are present in the minimal extension (MSSM). This leads to a richer Higgs and neutralino spectrum and allows for many interesting phenomena that are not present in the MSSM. In particular, light Higgs particles are still allowed by current constraints and could appear as decay products of the heavier Higgs states, rendering their search rather difficult at the LHC. We propose benchmark scenarios which address the new phenomenological features, consistent with present constraints from colliders and with the dark matter relic density, and with (semi--)universal soft terms at the GUT scale. We present the corresponding spectra for the Higgs particles, their couplings to gauge bosons and fermions and their most important decay branching ratios. A brief survey of the search strategies for these states at the LHC is given.

The role of polarized positrons and electrons in revealing fundamental interactions at the Linear Collider

The proposed International Linear Collider (ILC) is well-suited for discovering physics beyond the Standard Model and for precisely unraveling the structure of the underlying physics. The physics return can be maximized by the use of polarized beams. This report shows the paramount role of polarized beams and summarizes the benefits obtained from polarizing the positron beam, as well as the electron beam. The physics case for this option is illustrated explicitly by analyzing reference reactions in different physics scenarios. The results show that positron polarization, combined with the clean experimental environment provided by the linear collider, allows to improve strongly the potential of searches for new particles and the identification of their dynamics, which opens the road to resolve shortcomings of the Standard Model. The report also presents an overview of possible designs for polarizing both beams at the ILC, as well as for measuring their polarization.

Physics Interplay of the LHC and the ILC

Physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the International e+e- Linear Collider (ILC) will be complementary in many respects, as has been demonstrated at previous generations of hadron and lepton colliders. This report addresses the possible interplay between the LHC and ILC in testing the Standard Model and in discovering and determining the origin of new physics. Mutual benefits for the physics programme at both machines can occur both at the level of a combined interpretation of Hadron Collider and Linear Collider data and at the level of combined analyses of the data, where results obtained at one machine can directly influence the way analyses are carried out at the other machine. Topics under study comprise the physics of weak and strong electroweak symmetry breaking, supersymmetric models, new gauge theories, models with extra dimensions, and electroweak and QCD precision physics. The status of the work that has been carried out within the LHC / LC Study Group so far is summarised in this report. Possible topics for future studies are outlined.

Detection of heavy charged Higgs bosons at future Linear Colliders

We show how a statistically significant signal of heavy charged Higgs bosons of a general Two-Higgs Doublet Model produced in association with tau-neutrino pairs can be established at future Linear Colliders in the $H^+\to t\bar b\to 4$ jet decay channel. This signature is particularly relevant in the kinematic configuration $\sqrt s\lsim2 M_{H^\pm}$, when the pair production channel $e^+e^-\to H^-H^+$ is no longer available. Here, the initially overwhelming background, constituted by top quark pair production and decay, can vigorously be reduced thanks to a dedicated selection procedure that allows one to extract a signal in a region of several tens of GeV around $M_{H^\pm}\approx \sqrt s/2$, for $\tanβ\gsim40$.

HERWIG 6.5: an event generator for Hadron Emission Reactions With Interfering Gluons (including supersymmetric processes)

HERWIG is a general-purpose Monte Carlo event generator, which includes the simulation of hard lepton-lepton, lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron scattering and soft hadron-hadron collisions in one package. It uses the parton-shower approach for initial- and final-state QCD radiation, including colour coherence effects and azimuthal correlations both within and between jets. This article updates the description of HERWIG published in 1992, emphasising the new features incorporated since then. These include, in particular, the matching of first-order matrix elements with parton showers, a more correct treatment of heavy quark decays, and a wide range of new processes, including many predicted by the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, with the option of R-parity violation. At the same time we offer a brief review of the physics underlying HERWIG together with details of the input and control parameters and the output data, to provide a self-contained guide for prospective users of the program. This version of the manual (version 3) is updated to HERWIG version 6.5, which is expected to be the last major release of Fortran HERWIG. Future developments will be implemented in a new C++ event generator, HERWIG++.

The Wh decay channel as a probe of charged Higgs boson production at the Large Hadron Collider

We analyse the chances of detecting charged Higgs bosons of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in the $W^\pm h$ mode, followed by the dominant decay of the lightest Higgs scalar, $h\to b\bar b$. If the actual value of $M_h$ is already known, this channel offers possibly the optimal final state kinematics for charged Higgs discovery, thanks to the narrow resonances appearing around the $W^\pm$ and $h$ masses. Besides, within the MSSM, the $H^\pm\to W^\pm h$ decay rate is significant for not too large $\tanβ$ values, thus offering the possibility of accessing a region of MSSM parameter space left uncovered by other search channels. We consider both strong (QCD) and electroweak (EW) `irreducible' backgrounds in the $3b$-tagged channel to the $gg\to t\bar bH^-$ production process that had not been taken into account in previous analyses. After a series of kinematic cuts, the largest of these processes is $t\bar bW^\pm h$ production in the continuum. However, for optimum $\tanβ$, i.e., between 2 and 3, the charged Higgs boson signal overcomes this background and a narrow discovery region survives around $M_{H^\pm}\approx200$ GeV

Higgs production in association with squark pairs in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model at future hadron colliders

We study neutral and charged Higgs boson production in association with stop and sbottom squarks at the Large Hadron Collider, within the Supergravity inspired Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. The phenomenological relevance of such reactions is twofold. Firstly, they constitute a novel production mechanism of Higgs particles, either through a decay of a heavier (anti)squark into a lighter one or via a Higgs bremsstrahlung process. Secondly, their production rates are extremely sensitive to the values assumed by the five input parameters of the model, this possibly allowing one to put stringent constraints on the latter. After an exhaustive scan of the parameter space, we find that the majority of such processes could be detectable at high luminosity, provided tan(beta) is large, tan(beta) > 30 (except in the case of \tilde{t}_1\tilde{t}_1^* h and \tilde{t}_1\tilde{t}_2^* h final states, whose detection is also possible for smaller values), that the universal soft Supersymmetric breaking masses are in the ranges M_0 < 500 GeV and M_{1/2} < 220 GeV, and that the trilinear couplings are negative, A_0 < 0. We also point out some sizable decay signatures and discuss their Standard Model (SM) backgrounds. Finally, we derive compact analytical formulae of the corresponding scattering matrix elements.

Gluino signals in 4jet events and vertex tagging at LEP1

Heavy flavour tagging provides a broad range of possibilities in testing QCD features at LEP. We present here a study of 4jets events at LEP I where the so-called light gluinos could be directly produced. We show that microvertex techniques offer a unique chance to exploit simple kinematical distributions in order to optimise the signal coming from gluino production with respect to the background of ordinary QCD events. Our results indicate that experimental analyses along the lines suggested here can exclude or reveal the presence of a gluino for masses up to 10 GeV and lifetimes below 10$^{-9}$ sec. We also point out that a large fraction of gluino events could decay in configurations carrying large missing energy, so to escape the usual selection criteria of 4jet samples. In our study, mass effects of quarks and gluinos have been taken into account exactly. Our results are independent from both the jet algorithm and its resolution parameter.}

QCD effects and $b$-tagging at LEP I
