Global fits of SUSY at future Higgs factories

In this work, we study the impact of electroweak and Higgs precision measurements at future electron-positron colliders on several typical supersymmetric models, including the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM), Non-Universal Higgs Mass generalisations (NUHM1, NUHM2), and the 7-dimensional Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM7). Using publicly-available data from the \textsf{GAMBIT} community, we post-process previous SUSY global fits with additional likelihoods to explore the discovery potential of Higgs factories, such as the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC), the Future Circular Collider (FCC) and the International Linear Collider (ILC). We show that the currently allowed parameter space of these models will be further tested by future precision measurements. In particular, dark matter annihilation mechanisms may be distinguished by precise measurements of Higgs observables.

GM2Calc-2 for the 2HDM

GM2Calc is a leading tool for calculating precise contributions to $a_μ$ in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. In this proceeding we detail GM2Calc version 2 where it is extended so it can calculate two-loop contributions to $a_μ$ in the Two-Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM), based on the work in Ref. [1]. The 2HDM is a simple model, yet it is one of the few single field extensions of the Standard Model which is able to explain the muon $g-2$ anomaly. We demonstrate the powerful and flexible 2HDM capabilities of GM2Calc2, which include the most precise contributions in the literature and allow the user to work in their favourite type of the 2HDM as well as use complex and lepton flavour violating couplings. With its multiple interfaces and input flexibility, GM2Calc2 is a powerful tool both as a standalone code and as part of a larger code toolchain.

Likelihood analysis of the flavour anomalies and $g-2$ in the general two Higgs doublet model

We present a likelihood analysis of the general two Higgs doublet model, using the most important currently measured flavour observables, in view of the anomalies in charged current tree-level and neutral current one-loop rare decays of $B$ mesons in $b\to c l \overlineν$ and $b\to sμ^{+}μ^{-}$ transitions, respectively. We corroborate that the model explains the latter and it is able to simultaneously fit the experimental values of the $R(D)$ ratio at $1σ$, but it can not accommodate the $R(D^{*})$ and $F_{L}(D^{*})$ observables. We find that the fitted values for the angular observables in $b\to sμ^{+}μ^{-}$ transitions exhibit better agreement with the general two Higgs double model in comparison to the SM. We also make predictions for future collider observables $\mathrm{BR}(t\to ch)$, $\mathrm{BR}(h\to bs)$, $\mathrm{BR}(h\to τμ)$, $\mathrm{BR}(B_{s}\rightarrowτ^{+}τ^{-})$, $\mathrm{BR}(B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}τ^{+}τ^{-})$ and the flavour violating decays of the $τ$ lepton, $\mathrm{BR}(τ\rightarrow3μ)$ and $\mathrm{BR}(τ\toμγ)$. The model predicts values of $\mathrm{BR}(t\to ch)$, $\mathrm{BR}(B_{s}\rightarrowτ^{+}τ^{-})$ and $\mathrm{BR}(B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}τ^{+}τ^{-})$ that are out of reach of future experiments, but its predictions for $\mathrm{BR}(h\to bs)$ and $\mathrm{BR}(h\to τμ)$ are within the future sensitivity of the HL-LHC or the ILC. We also find that the predictions for the $τ\rightarrow3μ$ and $τ\toμγ$ decays are well within the projected limits of the Belle II experiment. Finally, using the latest measurement of the Fermilab Muon $g-2$ Collaboration, we performed a simultaneous fit to $Δa_μ$ constrained by the charged anomalies, finding solutions at the $1σ$ level. Once the neutral anomalies are included, however, a simultaneous explanation is unfeasible.

Observable vacuum energy is finite in expanding space

In this work I reason that in expanding space only those quantum modes contribute to the measured vacuum energy that do not transcend the observable volume. Since all quantised field modes have various observable consequences, when a gravitational horizon causally confines an observer to a finite volume quantised modes should be restricted to the observable patch to remain consistent with gravity. Within the observable patch of Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) space the vacuum expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor can be expressed as a sum over discrete field modes. Friedmann's first equation provides a straightforward ultraviolet cut-off allowing only a finite number of modes in the sum. The finite volume acts as an infrared regulator and the calculation of the vacuum energy density is tractable without regularisation and renormalisation. To test the validity of this idea I quantise a scalar field on an FLRW background and calculate its vacuum energy density in the vacuum dominated, conformal, holographic limit. In this limit I show that the quantum vacuum energy density scales with the square of the Hubble parameter, consistently with gravity. In this example quantum vacuum expands space while the horizon of the expanding space limits the energy density of the vacuum to the observed value.

Two-loop Prediction of the Anomalous Magnetic Moment of the Muon in the Two-Higgs Doublet Model with GM2Calc 2

We present an extension of the GM2Calc software to calculate the muon anomalous magnetic moment ($a_μ^{\text{BSM}}$) in the Two-Higgs Doublet Model. The Two-Higgs Doublet Model is one of the simplest and most popular extensions of the Standard Model. It is one of the few single field extensions that can give large contributions to $a_μ^{\text{BSM}}$. It is essential to include two-loop corrections to explain the long standing discrepancy between the Standard Model prediction and the experimental measurement in the Two-Higgs Doublet Model. The new version GM2Calc 2 implements the state of the art two-loop calculation for the general, flavour violating Two-Higgs Doublet Model as well as for the flavour aligned Two-Higgs Doublet Model and the type I, II, X and Y flavour conserving variants. Input parameters can be provided in either the gauge basis or the mass basis, and we provide an easy to use SLHA-like command-line interface to specify these. Using this interface users may also select between Two-Higgs Doublet Model types and choose which contributions to apply. In addition, GM2Calc 2 also provides interfaces in C++, C, Python and Mathematica, to make it easy to interface with other codes.

PhaseTracer: tracing cosmological phases and calculating transition properties

We present a C++ software package called PhaseTracer for mapping out cosmological phases, and potential transitions between them, for Standard Model extensions with any number of scalar fields. PhaseTracer traces the minima of effective potential as the temperature changes, and then calculates the critical temperatures, at which the minima are degenerate. PhaseTracer is constructed with modularity, flexibility and practicality in mind. It is fast and stable, and can receive potentials provided by other packages such as FlexibleSUSY. PhaseTracer can be useful analysing cosmological phase transitions which played an important role in the very early evolution of the Universe. If they were first order they could generate detectable gravitational waves and/or trigger electroweak baryogenesis to generate the observed matter anti-matter asymmetry of the Universe. The code can be obtained from https://github.com/PhaseTracer/PhaseTracer.

Reinterpretation of LHC Results for New Physics: Status and Recommendations after Run 2

We report on the status of efforts to improve the reinterpretation of searches and measurements at the LHC in terms of models for new physics, in the context of the LHC Reinterpretation Forum. We detail current experimental offerings in direct searches for new particles, measurements, technical implementations and Open Data, and provide a set of recommendations for further improving the presentation of LHC results in order to better enable reinterpretation in the future. We also provide a brief description of existing software reinterpretation frameworks and recent global analyses of new physics that make use of the current data.

Strong first-order phase transitions in the NMSSM --- a comprehensive survey

Motivated by the fact that the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model is one of the most plausible models that can accommodate electroweak baryogenesis, we analyze its phase structure by tracing the temperature dependence of the minima of the effective potential. Our results reveal rich patterns of phase structure that end in the observed electroweak symmetry breaking vacuum. We classify these patterns according to the first transition in their history and show the strong first-order phase transitions that may be possible in each type of pattern. These could allow for the generation of the matter-antimatter asymmetry or potentially observable gravitational waves. For a selection of benchmark points, we checked that the phase transitions completed and calculated the nucleation temperatures. We furthermore present samples that feature strong first-order phase transitions from an extensive scan of the whole parameter space. We highlight common features of our samples, including the fact that the Standard Model like Higgs is often not the lightest Higgs in the model.

GAMBIT: The Global and Modular Beyond-the-Standard-Model Inference Tool

We describe the open-source global fitting package GAMBIT: the Global And Modular Beyond-the-Standard-Model Inference Tool. GAMBIT combines extensive calculations of observables and likelihoods in particle and astroparticle physics with a hierarchical model database, advanced tools for automatically building analyses of essentially any model, a flexible and powerful system for interfacing to external codes, a suite of different statistical methods and parameter scanning algorithms, and a host of other utilities designed to make scans faster, safer and more easily-extendible than in the past. Here we give a detailed description of the framework, its design and motivation, and the current models and other specific components presently implemented in GAMBIT. Accompanying papers deal with individual modules and present first GAMBIT results. GAMBIT can be downloaded from gambit.hepforge.org.

Naturalness of the relaxion mechanism

The relaxion mechanism is a novel solution to the hierarchy problem. In this first statistical analysis of the relaxion mechanism, we quantify the relative plausibility of a QCD and a non-QCD relaxion model versus the Standard Model with Bayesian statistics, which includes an automatic penalty for fine-tuning. We find that in light of the hierarchy between the weak and Planck scales, relaxion models are favoured by colossal Bayes-factors. Constraints upon \eg the vacuum energy during relaxation, however, shrink the Bayes-factors such that relaxion models are only slightly favoured. Including the bounds on $\left|θ_\text{QCD}\right|$ shatters the plausibility of the QCD relaxion model as it typically yields $\left|θ_\text{QCD}\right| \gg 0$. Finally, we augment our models with scalar-field inflation and consider measurements of inflationary observables from BICEP/Planck. We find that, all told, the Standard Model is favoured by huge Bayes-factors as the relaxion models require fine-tuning such that the Hubble parameter is less than the height of the periodic barriers. Thus, whilst we confirm that relaxion models could solve the hierarchy problem, we find that their unconventional cosmology demolishes their plausibility.

This paper summarizes the physics potential of the CLIC high-energy e+e- linear collider. It provides input to the Snowmass 2013 process for the energy-frontier working groups on The Higgs Boson (HE1), Precision Study of Electroweak Interactions (HE2), Fully Understanding the Top Quark (HE3), as well as The Path Beyond the Standard Model -- New Particles, Forces, and Dimensions (HE4). It is accompanied by a paper describing the CLIC accelerator study, submitted to the Frontier Capabilities group of the Snowmass process.

The cosmic $e^\pm$ anomaly

Via a Bayesian likelihood analysis using 219 recent cosmic ray spectral data points we extract the anomalous part of the cosmic $e^\pm$ flux. First we show that a significant tension exists between the $e^\pm$ related and the rest of the fluxes. Interpreting this tension as the presence of an anomalous component in the $e^\pm$ related data, we then infer the values of selected cosmic ray propagation parameters excluding the anomalous data sample from the analysis. Based on these values we calculate background predictions with theoretical uncertainties for PAMELA and Fermi-LAT. We find a statistically significant deviation between the Fermi-LAT $e^-+e^+$ data and the predicted background even when (systematic) uncertainties are taken into account. Identifying this deviation as an anomalous $e^\pm$ contribution, we make an attempt to distinguish between various sources that may be responsible for the anomalous $e^\pm$ flux.

Top and Bottom Seesaw from Supersymmetric Strong Dynamics

We propose a top and bottom seesaw model with partial composite top and bottom quarks. Such composite quarks and topcolor gauge bosons are bound states from supersymmetric strong dynamics by Seiberg duality. Supersymmetry breaking also induces the breaking of topcolor into the QCD gauge coupling. The low energy description of our model reduces to a complete non-minimal extension of the top seesaw model with bottom seesaw. The non-minimal nature is crucial for Higgs mixings and the appearance of light Higgs fields. The Higgs fields are bound states of partial composite particles with the lightest one compatible with a 125 GeV Higgs field which was discovered at the LHC.

Realistic Standard Model Fermion Mass Relations in Generalized Minimal Supergravity (GmSUGRA)

Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) usually predict wrong Standard Model (SM) fermion mass relation m_e/m_μ = m_d/m_s toward low energies. To solve this problem, we consider the Generalized Minimal Supergravity (GmSUGRA) models, which are GUTs with gravity mediated supersymmetry breaking and higher dimensional operators. Introducing non-renormalizable terms in the super- and Kähler potentials, we can obtain the correct SM fermion mass relations in the SU(5) model with GUT Higgs fields in the {\bf 24} and {\bf 75} representations, and in the SO(10) model. In the latter case the gauge symmetry is broken down to SU(3)_C X SU(2)_L X SU(2)_R X U(1)_{B-L}, to flipped SU(5)X U(1)_X, or to SU(3)_C X SU(2)_L X U(1)_1 X U(1)_2. Especially, for the first time we generate the realistic SM fermion mass relation in GUTs by considering the high-dimensional operators in the Kähler potential.

Supersymmetry Breaking Scalar Masses and Trilinear Soft Terms in Generalized Minimal Supergravity

In the generalized minimal supergravity (GmSUGRA) scenario, we systematically study the supersymmetry breaking scalar masses, Standard Model fermion Yukawa coupling terms, and trilinear soft terms in SU(5) models with the Higgs fields in the {\bf 24} and {\bf 75} representations, and in SO(10) models where the gauge symmetry is broken down to the Pati-Salam SU(4)_C X SU(2)_L X SU(2)_R gauge symmetry, SU(3)_C X SU(2)_L X SU(2)_R X U(1)_{B-L} gauge symmetry, George-Glashow SU(5) X U(1)' gauge symmetry, flipped SU(5) X U(1)_X gauge symmetry, and SU(3)_C X SU(2)_L X U(1)_1 X U(1)_2 gauge symmetry. Most importantly, we for the first time consider the scalar and gaugino mass relations, which can be preserved from the unification scale to the electroweak scale under one-loop renormalization group equation running, in the SU(5) models, the Pati-Salam models and flipped SU(5) X U(1)_X models arising from SO(10) models. With such interesting relations, we may distinguish the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) and GmSUGRA scenarios if the supersymmetric particle spectrum can be measured at the LHC and ILC. Thus, it provides us with another important window of opportunity at the Planck scale.

Likelihood analysis of the next-to-minimal supergravity motivated model

In anticipation of data from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the potential discovery of supersymmetry, in this work we seek an answer to the following: What are the chances that supersymmetry will be found at the LHC? Will the LHC data be enough to discover a given supersymmetric model? And what other measurements can assist the LHC establish the presence of supersymmetry? As a step toward answering these general questions, we calculate the odds of the next-to-minimal version of the popular supergravity motivated model (NmSuGra) being discovered at the LHC to be 4:3 (57 %). We also demonstrate that viable regions of the NmSuGra parameter space outside the LHC reach can be covered by upgraded versions of dark matter direct detection experiments, such as super-CDMS, at 99 % confidence level. Due to the similarities of the models, we expect very similar results for the constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model (CMSSM).

Realistic Flipped SU(5) from Orbifold SO(10)

We propose a realistic flipped SU(5) model derived from a five-dimensional orbifold SO(10) model. The Standard Model (SM) fermion masses and mixings are explained by combining the traditional Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism with the five-dimensional wave function profiles of the SM fermions. Employing tree-level spontaneous R-symmetry breaking in the hidden sector and extra(ordinary) gauge mediation, we obtain realistic supersymmetry breaking soft mass terms with non-vanishing gaugino masses. Including the messenger fields at the intermediate scale and Kaluza-Klein states at the compactification scale, we study gauge coupling unification. We show that the SO(10) unified gauge coupling is very strong and the unification scale can be much higher than the compactification scale. We briefly discuss proton decay as well.

Holographic Quantum Statistics from Dual Thermodynamics

We propose dual thermodynamics corresponding to black hole mechanics with the identifications E' -> A/4, S' -> M, and T' -> 1/T in Planck units. Here A, M and T are the horizon area, mass and Hawking temperature of a black hole and E', S' and T' are the energy, entropy and temperature of a corresponding dual quantum system. We show that, for a Schwarzschild black hole, the dual variables formally satisfy all three laws of thermodynamics, including the Planck-Nernst form of the third law requiring that the entropy tend to zero at low temperature. This is in contrast with traditional black hole thermodynamics, where the entropy is singular. Once the third law is satisfied, it is straightforward to construct simple (dual) quantum systems representing black hole mechanics. As an example, we construct toy models from one dimensional (Fermi or Bose) quantum gases with N ~ M in a Planck scale box. In addition to recovering black hole mechanics, we obtain quantum corrections to the entropy, including the logarithmic correction obtained by previous papers. The energy-entropy duality transforms a strongly interacting gravitational system (black hole) into a weakly interacting quantum system (quantum gas) and thus provides a natural framework for the quantum statistics underlying the holographic conjecture.

Updated Reach of the CERN LHC and Constraints from Relic Density, b->s gamma and a(mu) in the mSUGRA Model

{We present an updated assessment of the reach of the CERN LHC pp collider for supersymmetric matter in the context of the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model. In addition to previously examined channels, we also include signals with an isolated photon or with a leptonically decaying Z boson. For an integrated luminosity of 100 fb^{-1}, values of m_{1/2}\sim 1400 GeV can be probed for small m_0, corresponding to a gluino mass of m_{\tg}\sim 3 TeV. For large m_0, in the hyperbolic branch/focus point region, m_{1/2}\sim 700 GeV can be probed, corresponding to m_{\tg}\sim 1800 GeV. We also map out parameter space regions preferred by the measured values of the dark matter relic density, the b\to sγdecay rate, and the muon anomalous magnetic moment a_μ, and discuss how SUSY might reveal itself in these regions. We find the CERN LHC can probe the entire stau co-annihilation region and also most of the heavy Higgs annihilation funnel allowed by WMAP data, except for some range of large m_0 and m_{1/2} if \tanβ\agt 50.

QCD Corrections to Scalar Production via Heavy Quark Fusion at Hadron Colliders

We recently proposed that, due to the top-quark-mass enhanced Yukawa coupling, the s-channel production of a charged scalar or pseudo-scalar from heavy quark fusion can be an important new mechanism for discovering non-standard spin-0 particles. In this work, we present the complete O(alpha_s) QCD corrections to this s-channel production process at hadron colliders, including the results of QCD resummation over multiple soft-gluon emission. The systematic QCD-improved production and decay rates at the FermiLab Tevatron and the CERN LHC are given for the charged top-pions in the topcolor models and for the charged Higgs bosons in the generic two Higgs doublet model. The direct extension to the production of the neutral (pseudo-)scalars via bb\bar fusion is studied in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with large tan(beta), and in the topcolor model with large bottom Yukawa coupling.
