We prove that the heat kernel associated to the Schrödinger type operator A:=(1+∣x∣α)Δ−∣x∣β satisfies the estimate k(t,x,y)≤c1eλ0tec2t−b1+∣y∣α(∣x∣∣y∣)−2N−1−4β−αe−β−α+22∣x∣2β−α+2e−β−α+22∣y∣2β−α+2 for t>0,∣x∣,∣y∣≥1, where c1,c2 are positive constants and b=β+α−2β−α+2 provided that N>2,α≥2 and β>α−2. We also obtain an estimate of the eigenfunctions of A.
In the paper the principal result obtained is the estimate for the heat kernel associated to the Schrödinger type operator (1+∣x∣α)Δ−∣x∣β k(t,x,y)≤Ct−2θ1+∣x∣αφ(x)φ(y), where φ=(1+∣x∣α)42−θ+α12θ−N, θ≥N and 0<t<1, provided that N>2, α>2 and β>α−2. This estimate improves a similar estimate in \cite {can-rhan-tac2} with respect to the dependence on spatial component.
We prove that the realization Ap in Lp(RN),1<p<∞, of the Schrödinger type operator A=(1+∣x∣α)Δ−∣x∣β with domain D(Ap)={u∈W2,p(RN):Au∈Lp(RN)} generates a strongly continuous analytic semigroup provided that N>2,α>2 and β>α−2. Moreover this semigroup is consistent, irreducible, immediately compact and ultracontractive.
We introduce an index of convergence for double sequences of real numbers. This index is used to describe the behaviour of some bivariate interpolation sequences at points of discontinuity of the first kind. We consider in particular the case of bivariate Lagrange and Shepard operators.
Given a sequence of real numbers, we consider its subsequences converging to possibly different limits and associate to each of them an index of convergence which depends on the density of the associated subsequences. This index turns out to be useful for a complete description of some phenomena in interpolation theory at points of discontinuity of the first kind. In particular we give some applications to Lagrange and Shepard operators.
