Dirac lattice

We study the emergence of Dirac fermionic field in the low energy description of non-relativistic dynamical models on graphs admitting continuum limit. The Dirac fermionic field appears as the effective field describing the excitations above point-like Fermi surface. Together with the Dirac fermionic field an effective space-time metric is also emerging. We analyze the conditions for such Fermi points to appear in general, paying special attention to the cases of two and three spacial dimensions.

Matrix at slow roll: Nonrelativistic and Perturbative

We analyze the slow roll limit of the massive version of time-dependent Yang--Mills type matrix model. We find that this limit reproduces the one-loop non-Hermitian matrix model, describing the dilatations of the local gauge invariant composite operators in the scalar sector of $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang--Mills theory. This coincidence is explained through the fact that the dialtation operator of the last can be identified with the radial time Hamiltonian. Further we explore the finite mass corrections to the slow roll action. The regular corrections in large mass expansions are coming from the modes with frequencies smaller than the mass parameter of the theory.

On the defect induced gauge and Yukawa fields in graphene

We consider lattice deformations (both continuous and topological) in the hexagonal lattice Hubbard model in the tight binding approximation to graphene, involving operators with the range up to next-to-neighbor. In the low energy limit, we find that these deformations give rise to couplings of the electronic Dirac field to an external scalar (Yukawa) and gauge fields. The fields are expressed in terms of original defects. As a by-product we establish that the next-to-nearest order is the minimal range of deformations which produces the complete gauge and scalar fields. We consider an example of Stone--Wales defect, and find the associated gauge field.

Enhanced Supersymmetry of Nonrelativistic ABJM Theory

We study the supersymmetry enhancement of nonrelativistic limits of the ABJM theory for Chern-Simons level $k=1,2$. The special attention is paid to the nonrelativistic limit (known as `PAAP' case) containing both particles and antiparticles. Using supersymmetry transformations generated by the monopole operators, we find additional 2 kinematical, 2 dynamical, and 2 conformal supercharges for this case. Combining with the original 8 kinematical supercharges, the total number of supercharges becomes maximal: 14 supercharges, like in the well-known PPPP limit. We obtain the corresponding super Schrödinger algebra which appears to be isomorphic to the one of the PPPP case. We also discuss the role of monopole operators in supersymmetry enhancement and partial breaking of supersymmetry in nonrelativistic limit of the ABJM theory.

Landau problem for bilayer graphene: Exact results

We consider graphene bilayer in a constant magnetic field of arbitrary orientation (i.e. tilted with respect to the graphene plane). In the low energy approximation to tight binding model with Peierls substitution, we find the exact spectrum of Landau levels. This spectrum is two-fold degenerate in the limit of large in-plane field, which gives rise to a new SU(2) symmetry in this limit.

Taking off the square root of Nambu-Goto action and obtaining Filippov-Lie algebra gauge theory action

We propose a novel prescription to take off the square root of Nambu-Goto action for a p-brane, which generalizes the Brink-Di Vecchia-Howe-Tucker or also known as Polyakov method. With an arbitrary decomposition as d+n=p+1, our resulting action is a modified d-dimensional Polyakov action which is gauged and possesses a Nambu n-bracket squared potential. We first spell out how the (p+1)-dimensional diffeomorphism is realized in the lower dimensional action. Then we discuss a possible gauge fixing of it to a direct product of $d$-dimensional diffeomorphism and n-dimensional volume preserving diffeomorphism. We show that the latter naturally leads to a novel Filippov-Lie n-algebra based gauge theory action in d-dimensions.

Continuum limit(s) of BMN matrix model: Where is the (nonabelian) gauge group?

We discuss the continuum limits of Berenstein-Maldacena-Nastase matrix model. They give rise to Poisson bracket gauge field theories on the ordinary two sphere or on a set of two spheres with a gauge groups U(n) depending on the degeneracy of the classical solution about which the model is considered. We show that these models fail to be equivalent among each other in the continuum limit.

Two phases of the noncommutative quantum mechanics

We consider quantum mechanics on the noncommutative plane in the presence of magnetic field $B$. We show, that the model has two essentially different phases separated by the point $Bθ=c\hbar^2/e$, where $θ$ is a parameter of noncommutativity. In this point the system reduces to exactly-solvable one-dimensional system. When $κ=1-eBθ/c\hbar^2<0$ there is a finite number of states corresponding to the given value of the angular momentum. In another phase, i.e. when $κ>0$ the number of states is infinite. The perturbative spectrum near the critical point $κ=0$ is computed.
