Non-Local Tug-of-War and the Infinity Fractional Laplacian

Motivated by the "tug-of-war" game studied in [12], we consider a "non-local" version of the game which goes as follows: at every step two players pick respectively a direction and then, instead of flipping a coin in order to decide which direction to choose and then moving of a fixed amount $ε>0$ (as is done in the classical case), it is a $s$-stable Levy process which chooses at the same time both the direction and the distance to travel. Starting from this game, we heuristically we derive a deterministic non-local integro-differential equation that we call "infinity fractional Laplacian". We study existence, uniqueness, and regularity, both for the Dirichlet problem and for a double obstacle problem, both problems having a natural interpretation as "tug-of-war" games.

On the Decay of Infinite Energy Solutions to the Navier-Stokes Equations in the Plane

Infinite energy solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations in $\mathbb{R}^2$ may be constructed by decomposing the initial data into a finite energy piece and an infinite energy piece, which are then treated separately. We prove that the finite energy part of such solutions is bounded for all time and decays algebraically in time when the same can be said of heat energy starting from the same data. As a consequence, we describe the asymptotic behavior of the infinite energy solutions. Specifically, we consider the solutions of Gallagher and Planchon [5] as well as solutions constructed from a "radial energy decomposition". Our proof uses the Fourier Splitting technique of M. E. Schonbek.

The Vortex-Wave equation with a single vortex as the limit of the Euler equation

In this article we consider the physical justification of the Vortex-Wave equation introduced by Marchioro and Pulvirenti in the case of a single point vortex moving in an ambient vorticity. We consider a sequence of solutions for the Euler equation in the plane corresponding to initial data consisting of an ambient vorticity in $L^1\cap L^\infty$ and a sequence of concentrated blobs which approach the Dirac distribution. We introduce a notion of a weak solution of the Vortex-Wave equation in terms of velocity (or primitive variables) and then show, for a subsequence of the blobs, the solutions of the Euler equation converge in velocity to a weak solution of the Vortex-Wave equation.
