Scattering of quantum fields by a MOG Black Hole

This paper aims to investigate the scattering of fermions by spherically symmetric MOG black holes, which are a type of black holes encountered in scalar-tensor-vector modified gravitational theories. After determining the scattering modes in this black hole geometry, we apply the partial wave method to compute analytical expressions for the phase shifts that enter into the definition of scattering amplitudes. An analysis of the influence of the MOG parameter $α$ on the differential scattering cross section and the induced polarization is conducted. Also, a comparison with Schwarzschild scattering (for which $α= 0$) is performed. Furthermore, it is also shown that glory and spiral/orbiting scattering are more significant for higher values of the free parameter $α$.

Quasibound states of the Dirac field in Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström black hole backgrounds

In this paper, we study the existence of (quasi)bound states in two spacetime geometries describing Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström black holes. For obtaining this type of states we search for discrete quantum modes of the massive Dirac equation in the two geometries. After imposing the quantization condition, an analytical expression for the energy of the ground states is derived. The energy of higher states is then obtained numerically. For very small values of the black hole mass $M$ we compare the energy of the Reissner-Nordström black hole quasibound state with the Dirac-Coulomb energy and we have found the two to be in good agreement.

Partial wave analysis of the Dirac fermions scattered from Reissner - Nordstr\" om charged black holes

The asymptotic form of Dirac spinors in the field of the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole are derived for the scattering states (with $E>mc^2$) obtaining the phase shifts of the partial wave analysis of Dirac fermions scattered from charged black holes. The elastic scattering and absorption are studied giving analytic formulas for the partial amplitudes and cross sections. A graphical study is performed for analysing the differential cross section (forward/backward scattering) and the polarization degree as functions of scattering angle.

Using Maple + GRTensorII in teaching basics of General Relativity and Cosmology

In this article we propose some Maple procedures, for teaching purposes, to study the basics of General Relativity (GR) and Cosmology. After presenting some features of GRTensorII, a package specially built to deal with GR, we give two examples of how one can use these procedures. In the first example we build the Schwarzschild solution of Einstein equations, while in the second one we study some simple cosmological models.

Low energy Greybody factors for fermions emitted by a Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole

In this paper we are discussing the problem of low-energy greybody factors for fermions emitted by a Schwarzschild-de Sitter black hole. In our study we are using the analytical methods proposed by Unruh some time ago for determining the greybody factors. We have found that at low energies the greybody factors are constant for a given total angular momentum (similar to what happens in the case of scalar particles reported before in the literature). Also our results are indicating an enhancement in the energy spectrum if one is increasing the value of the cosmological constant. These results are consistent with numerical calculations performed in Ref.[14] by S.F. Wu et al. (Phys.Rev.D 78, 084010).

New modes for massive Dirac field in higher dimensional Black Holes

In this letter we derive new modes for massive Dirac field in the background of a higher-dimensional Schwarzschild black hole. We use in our approach the Cartesian gauge defined in local frames. We work in the context of ADD-like theories, assuming that the Standard Model fields (fermions and bosons) live only on a (3+1)-dimensional brane and the extra dimensions of space can be large in size.

Partial wave analysis of the Dirac fermions scattered from Schwarzschild black holes

Asymptotic analytic solutions of the Dirac equation, giving the scattering modes (of the continuous energy spectrum, $E>mc^2$) in Schwarzschild's chart and Cartesian gauge, are used for building the partial wave analysis of Dirac fermions scattered by black holes. The contribution of the bound states to absorption and possible resonant scattering is neglected because of some technical difficulties related to the discrete spectrum that is less studied so far. In this framework, the analytic expressions of the differential cross section and induced polarization degree are derived in terms of scattering angle, mass of the black hole, energy and mass of the fermion. Moreover, the closed form of the absorption cross section due to the scattering modes is derived showing that in the high-energy limit this tends to the event horizon area regardless of the fermion mass (including zero). A graphical study presents the differential cross section analyzing the forward/backward scattering (known also as glory scattering) and the polarization degree as functions of scattering angle. The graphical analysis shows the presence of oscillations in scattering intensity around forward/backward directions, phenomena known as spiral scattering. The energy dependence of the differential cross section is also established by using analytical and graphical methods.

Notes on f(R) Theories of Gravity

In this review paper we present some basic notions about f(R) theories of gravity and some simple cosmological models derived from it. We first make an introduction to General Relativity (GR), followed by the discussion of Gibbons-York-Hawking boundary term in GR. We also discuss boundary terms in f(R) theories and the application of conformal transformations in order to show that f(R) theories can be made equivalent to GR minimally coupled with a scalar filed. In the final sections of the paper a brief review of classical Friedman and Lemaitre cosmological models is made, followed by the discussion of cosmological models derived from f(R)gravity.
