On $L^2$ estimates for quadratic images of product Frostman measures

Let $f\in\mathbb R[x,y,z]$ be a fixed non-degenerate quadratic polynomial. Given an $α$-Frostman probability measure $μ$ supported on $[0,1]$ with $α\in(0,1)$, consider the pushforward measure $ν=f_{\#}(μ\timesμ\timesμ)$ on $\mathbb R$. We prove the following $L^2$ energy estimate: for a fixed nonnegative Schwartz function $φ$ with $\intφ=1$ and $φ_δ(t)=δ^{-1}φ(t/δ)$, there exist $ε>0$ and $δ_{0}>0$ (depending only on $α$ and the coefficients of $f$) such that \[ \int_{\mathbb R}(φ_δ*ν(t))^{2}\,dt \ \lesssim\ δ^{α+ε-1} \qquad \text{for all } δ\in(0,δ_{0}]. \] The proof expands the $L^2$ energy into a weighted six-fold coincidence integral and reduces the main contribution to a planar incidence problem after a controlled change of variables. The key new input is an incidence estimate for point sets that arise as bi-Lipschitz images of a Cartesian product $M\times M$ of a $δ$-separated and non-concentrated set $M$, yielding a power saving beyond what is available from separation and non-concentration alone. We also give examples showing that bounded support and Frostman-type hypotheses are necessary for such $L^{2}$ control.

Pinned simplices and connections to product of sets on paraboloids

In this paper we obtain improved dimensional thresholds for dot product sets corresponding to compact subsets of a paraboloid. As a direct application of these estimates, we obtain significant improvements to the best known dimensional thresholds that guarantee that a given compact subset of Euclidean space determines a positive proportion of all possible congruence classes of simplexes. In many regimes this improves the results previously obtained by Erdogan-Hart-Iosevich (\cite{EHI}), Greenleaf-Iosevich-Liu-Palsson (\cite{GILP}) and others.

Product of sets on varieties in finite fields

Let $V$ be a variety in $\mathbb{F}_q^d$ and $E\subset V$. It is known that if any line passing through the origin contains a bounded number of points from $E$, then $|\prod(E)|=|\{x\cdot y\colon x, y\in E\}|\gg q$ whenever $|E|\gg q^{\frac{d}{2}}$. In this paper, we show that the barrier $\frac{d}{2}$ can be broken when $V$ is a paraboloid in some specific dimensions. The main novelty in our approach is to link this question to the distance problem in one lower dimensional vector space, allowing us to use recent developments in this area to obtain improvements.

On the two-parameter Erdős-Falconer distance problem over finite fields

Given $E \subseteq \mathbb{F}_q^d \times \mathbb{F}_q^d$, with the finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ of order $q$ and the integer $d \ge 2$, we define the two-parameter distance set as $Δ_{d, d}(E)=\left\{\left(\|x_1-y_1\|, \|x_2-y_2\|\right) : (x_1,x_2), (y_1,y_2) \in E \right\}$. Birklbauer and Iosevich (2017) proved that if $|E| \gg q^{\frac{3d+1}{2}}$, then $ |Δ_{d, d}(E)| = q^2$. For the case of $d=2$, they showed that if $|E| \gg q^{\frac{10}{3}}$, then $ |Δ_{2, 2}(E)| \gg q^2$. In this paper, we present extensions and improvements of these results.

An integral arising from dyadic average of Riesz transforms

In the work of S. Petermichl, S. Treil and A. Volberg it was explicitly constructed that the Riesz transforms in any dimension $n \geq 2$ can be obtained as an average of dyadic Haar shifts provided that an integral is nonzero. It was shown in the paper that when $n=2$, the integral is indeed nonzero (negative) but for $n \geq 3$ the nonzero property remains unsolved. In this paper we show that the integral is nonzero (negative) for $n=3$. The novelty in our proof is the delicate decompositions of the integral for which we can either find their closed forms or prove an upper bound.

Intersection between pencils of tubes, discretized sum-product, and radial projections

In this paper we prove the following results in the plane. They are related to each other, while each of them has its own interest. First we obtain an $ε_0$-increment on intersection between pencils of $δ$-tubes, under non-concentration conditions. In fact we show it is equivalent to the discretized sum-product problem, thus the $ε_0$ follows from Bourgain's celebrated result. Then we prove a couple of new results on radial projections. We also discussion about the dependence of $ε_0$ and make a new conjecture. A tube condition on Frostman measures, after careful refinement, is also given.

A Good-Lambda Lemma, two weight T1 theorems without weak boundedness, and a two weight accretive global Tb theorem

The weak boundedness property associated with a standard alpha-fractional Calderon-Zygmund operator and a weight pair is good-lambda controlled by the testing conditions and the Muckenhoupt and energy side conditions. As a consequence, assuming the side conditions, we can eliminate the weak boundedness property from Theorem 1 of arXiv:1603.04332v2 to obtain that T is bounded if and only if the testing conditions hold for T and its dual (an earlier instance of this type of conclusion appears in Lacey and Wick arXiv:1312.6163v3). As a corollary we give a simple derivation of a two weight accretive global Tb theorem from a related T1 theorem. The role of two different parameterizations of the family of dyadic grids, by scale and by translation, is highlighted in simultaneously exploiting both goodness and NTV surgery with families of grids that are common to both measures.

A two weight fractional singular integral theorem with side conditions, energy and k-energy dispersed

This paper is a sequel to our paper Rev. Mat. Iberoam. 32 (2016), no. 1, 79-174. Let T be a standard fractional Calderon Zygmund operator. Assume appropriate Muckenhoupt and quasienergy side conditions. Then we show that T is bounded from one weighted space to another if the quasicube testing conditions hold for T and its dual, and if the quasiweak boundedness property holds for T. Conversely, if T is bounded, then the quasitesting conditions hold, and the quasiweak boundedness condition holds. If the vector of fractional Riesz transforms (or more generally a strongly elliptic vector of transforms) is bounded, then the appropriate Muckenhoupt conditions hold. We do not know if our quasienergy conditions are necessary in higher dimensions, except for certain situations in which one of the measures is one-dimensional as in arXiv:1310.4820 and arXiv:1505.07822v4, and for certain side conditions placed on the measures such as doubling and k-energy dispersed, which when k=n-1 is similar to the condition of uniformly full dimension in Lacey and Wick arXiv:1312.6163v3.

The two weight T1 theorem for fractional Riesz transforms when one measure is supported on a curve

Using our T1 theorem with an energy side condition allowing common point masses, we extend our previous work in arXiv:1310.4484v3 on one measure supported on a line, to include regular C(1,delta) curves and to permit common point masses. In the special case of the Cauchy transform with one measure supported on the circle, this gives a slightly different conclusion than that in arXiv:1310.4820v4.

A geometric condition, necessity of energy, and two weight boundedness of fractional Riesz transforms

We prove that the energy conditions in arXiv:1302.5093v7 are implied by the fractional A2 conditions and testing conditions for the vector of fractional Riesz transforms when one measure is supported on a line. Then we apply the main theorem in arXiv:1302.5093v7 to obtain a T1 theorem for the fractional Riesz transforms when one weight is supported on a line.

A two weight theorem for fractional singular integrals in higher dimension

We prove a two weight theorem for alpha-fractional singular integrals in higher dimensions, assuming energy side conditions. We also show that reversal of the Energy Lemma fails for the vector Riesz transforms in the plane, as well as other collections of convolution Calderon-Zygmund operators in the plane, and when alpha = 1, even for the infinite vector of all classical 1-fractional Calderon-Zygmund operators.

Two Weight Inequality for the Hilbert Transform: A Real Variable Characterization, I

The two weight inequality for the Hilbert transform arises in the settings of analytic function spaces, operator theory, and spectral theory, and what would be most useful is a characterization in the simplest real-variable terms. We show that the $L^2$ to $L^2$ inequality holds if and only if two L^2 to weak-L^2 inequalities hold. This is a corollary to a characterization in terms of a two-weight Poisson inequality, and a pair of testing inequalities on bounded functions.

Averaging operators over homogeneous varieties over finite fields

In this paper we study the mapping properties of the averaging operator over a variety given by a system of homogeneous equations over a finite field. We obtain optimal results on the averaging problems over two dimensional varieties whose elements are common solutions of diagonal homogeneous equations. The proof is based on a careful study of algebraic and geometric properties of such varieties. In particular, we show that they are not contained in any hyperplane and are complete intersections. We also address partial results on averaging problems over arbitrary dimensional homogeneous varieties which are smooth away from the origin.

The Two Weight Inequality for Hilbert Transform, Coronas, and Energy Conditions

We consider the two weight problem for the Hilbert transform, namely the question of finding real-variable characterization of those pair of weights for which the Hilbert transform acts boundedly on $ L ^2 $ of the weights. Such a characterization is known subject to certain side conditions. We give a new proof, simpler in many details, of the best such result. In addition, we analyze underlying assumptions in the proof, especially in terms of two alternate side conditions. A new characterization in the case of one doubling weight is given.

Additive energy and the Falconer distance problem in finite fields

We study the number of the vectors determined by two sets in d-dimensional vector spaces over finite fields. We observe that the lower bound of cardinality for the set of vectors can be given in view of an additive energy or the decay of the Fourier transform on given sets. As an application of our observation, we find sufficient conditions on sets where the Falconer distance conjecture for finite fields holds in two dimension. Moreover, we give an alternative proof of the theorem, due to Iosevich and Rudnev, that any Salem set satisfies the Falconer distance conjecture for finite fields.

Harmonic analysis related to homogeneous varieties in three dimensional vector space over finite fields

In this paper we study extension problems, averaging problems, and generalized Erdos-Falconer distance problems associated with arbitrary homogeneous varieties in three dimensional vector space over finite fields. In the case when homogeneous varieties in three dimension do not contain any plane passing through the origin, we obtain the general best possible results on aforementioned three problems. In particular, our results on extension problems recover and generalize the work due to Mockenhaupt and Tao who completed the particular conical extension problems in three dimension. Investigating the Fourier decay on homogeneous varieties, we give the complete mapping properties of averaging operators over homogeneous varieties in three dimension. In addition, studying the generalized Erd\H os-Falconer distance problems related to homogeneous varieties in three dimensions, we improve the cardinality condition on sets where the size of distance sets is nontrivial. Finally, we address a question of our problems for homogeneous varieties in higher odd dimensions.

Sharp extension theorems and Falconer distance problems for algebraic curves in two dimensional vector spaces over finite fields

In this paper we study extension theorems associated with general varieties in two dimensional vector spaces over finite fields. Applying Bezout's theorem, we obtain the sufficient and necessary conditions on general curves where sharp $L^p-L^r$ extension estimates hold. Our main result can be considered as a nice generalization of works by Mochenhaupt and Tao and Iosevich and Koh. As an application of our sharp extension estimates, we also study the Falconer distance problems in two dimensions.

The generalized Erdos-Falconer distance problems in vector spaces over finite fields

In this paper we study the generalized Erdos-Falconer distance problems in the finite field setting. The generalized distances are defined in terms of polynomials, and various formulas for sizes of distance sets are obtained. In particular, we develop a simple formula for estimating the cardinality of distance sets determined by diagonal polynomials. As a result, we generalize the spherical distance problems due to Iosevich and Rudnev and the cubic distance problems due to Iosevich and Koh. Moreover, our results are of higher dimensional version for Vu's work on two dimension. In addition, we set up and study the generalized pinned distance problems in finite fields. We give a nice generalization of some recent work in which the pinned distance problems related to spherical distances were investigated. Discrete Fourier analysis and exponential sum estimates play an important role in our proof.

A slight improvement to Korenblum's constant

Let $A^2(D)$ be the Bergman space over the open unit disk $D$ in the complex plane. Korenblum conjectured that there is an absolute constant $c \in (0,1)$ such that whenever $|f(z)|\le |g(z)|$ in the annulus $c<|z|<1$ then $||f(z)|| \le ||g(z)||$.In 2004 C.Wang gave an upper bound on $c$,that is, $c < 0.67795$, and in 2006 A.Schuster gave a lower bound ,$c > 0.21 $ .In this paper we slightly improve the upper bound for $c$.
