Large-Scale High-Quality 3D Gaussian Head Reconstruction from Multi-View Captures

We propose HeadsUp, a scalable feed-forward method for reconstructing high-quality 3D Gaussian heads from large-scale multi-camera setups. Our method employs an efficient encoder-decoder architecture that compresses input views into a compact latent representation. This latent representation is then decoded into a set of UV-parameterized 3D Gaussians anchored to a neutral head template. This UV representation decouples the number of 3D Gaussians from the number and resolution of input images, enabling training with many high-resolution input views. We train and evaluate our model on an internal dataset with more than 10,000 subjects, which is an order of magnitude larger than existing multi-view human head datasets. HeadsUp achieves state-of-the-art reconstruction quality and generalizes to novel identities without test-time optimization. We extensively analyze the scaling behavior of our model across identities, views, and model capacity, revealing practical insights for quality-compute trade-offs. Finally, we highlight the strength of our latent space by showcasing two downstream applications: generating novel 3D identities and animating the 3D heads with expression blendshapes.

Ensemble spin relaxation of shallow donor qubits in ZnO

We present an experimental and theoretical study of the longitudinal electron spin relaxation ($T_1$) of shallow donors in the direct band-gap semiconductor ZnO. $T_1$ is measured via resonant excitation of the Ga donor-bound exciton. $T_1$ exhibits an inverse-power dependence on magnetic field $T_1\propto B^{-n}$, with $4\leq n\leq 5$, over a field range of 1.75 T to 7 T. We derive an analytic expression for the donor spin-relaxation rate due to spin-orbit (admixture mechanism) and electron-phonon (piezoelectric) coupling for the wurtzite crystal symmetry. Excellent quantitative agreement is found between experiment and theory suggesting the admixture spin-orbit mechanism is the dominant contribution to $T_1$ in the measured magnetic field range. Temperature and excitation-energy dependent measurements indicate a donor density dependent interaction may contribute to small deviations between experiment and theory. The longest $T_1$ measured is 480 ms at 1.75 T with increasing $T_1$ at smaller fields theoretically expected. This work highlights the extremely long longitudinal spin-relaxation time for ZnO donors due to their small spin-orbit coupling.

Coherent Spin Preparation of Indium Donor Qubits in Single ZnO Nanowires

Shallow donors in ZnO are promising candidates for photon-mediated quantum technologies. Utilizing the indium donor, we show that favorable donor-bound exciton optical and electron spin properties are retained in isolated ZnO nanowires. The inhomogeneous optical linewidth of single nanowires (60 GHz) is within a factor of 2 of bulk single-crystalline ZnO. Spin initialization via optical pumping is demonstrated and coherent population trapping is observed. The two-photon absorption width approaches the theoretical limit expected due to the hyperfine interaction between the indium nuclear spin and the donor-bound electron.

Double parton distributions in the pion from lattice QCD

We perform a lattice study of double parton distributions in the pion, using the relationship between their Mellin moments and pion matrix elements of two local currents. A good statistical signal is obtained for almost all relevant Wick contractions. We investigate correlations in the spatial distribution of two partons in the pion, as well as correlations involving the parton polarisation. The patterns we observe depend significantly on the quark mass. We investigate the assumption that double parton distributions approximately factorise into a convolution of single parton distributions.

A Categorization of Transparency-Enhancing Technologies

A variety of Transparency-Enhancing Technologies has been presented during the past years. However, investigation of frameworks for classification and assessment of Transparency-Enhancing Technologies has lacked behind. The lack of precise classification and categorization approaches poses an obstacle not only to systematic requirements analysis for Transparency-Enhancing Technologies but also to investigation and analysis of their capabilities and their suitability to contribute to privacy protection. This paper addresses this research gap. In particular, it presents a set of categorization parameters for describing the properties and functionality of a Transparency-Enhancing Technology on the one hand, and a categorization of Transparency-Enhancing Technologies on the other hand.
