Nearest-neighbour correlation functions for the supersymmetric XYZ spin chain and Painlevé VI

We study nearest-neighbour correlation functions for the ground state of the supersymmetric XYZ spin chain with odd length and periodic boundary conditions. Under a technical assumption related to the $Q$-operator of the corresponding eight-vertex model, we show that they can be expressed exactly in terms of the Painlevé VI tau functions $s_n$ and $\bar s_n$ introduced by Bazhanov and Mangazeev. Furthermore, we give an interpretation of the correlation functions in terms of the Painlevé VI Hamiltonian.

On the logarithmic bipartite fidelity of the open XXZ spin chain at $Δ=-1/2$

The open XXZ spin chain with the anisotropy $Δ=-\frac12$ and a one-parameter family of diagonal boundary fields is studied at finite length. A determinant formula for an overlap involving the spin chain's ground-state vectors for different lengths is found. The overlap allows one to obtain an exact finite-size formula for the ground state's logarithmic bipartite fidelity. The leading terms of its asymptotic series for large chain lengths are evaluated. Their expressions confirm the predictions of conformal field theory for the fidelity.

The open XXZ chain at $Δ=-1/2$ and the boundary quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations

The open XXZ spin chain with the anisotropy parameter $Δ=-\frac12$ and diagonal boundary magnetic fields that depend on a parameter $x$ is studied. For real $x>0$, the exact finite-size ground-state eigenvalue of the spin-chain Hamiltonian is explicitly computed. In a suitable normalisation, the ground-state components are characterised as polynomials in $x$ with integer coefficients. Linear sum rules and special components of this eigenvector are explicitly computed in terms of determinant formulas. These results follow from the construction of a contour-integral solution to the boundary quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations associated with the $R$-matrix and diagonal $K$-matrices of the six-vertex model. A relation between this solution and a weighted enumeration of totally-symmetric alternating sign matrices is conjectured.

Boundary emptiness formation probabilities in the six-vertex model at $Δ= -\frac12$

We define a new family of overlaps $C_{N,m}$ for the XXZ Hamiltonian on a periodic chain of length $N$. These are equal to the linear sums of the groundstate components, in the canonical basis, wherein $m$ consecutive spins are fixed to the state ${\uparrow}$. We define the boundary emptiness formation probabilities as the ratios $C_{N,m}/C_{N,0}$ of these overlaps. In the associated six-vertex model, they correspond to correlation functions on a semi-infinite cylinder of perimeter $N$. At the combinatorial point $Δ= -\frac12$, we obtain closed-form expressions in terms of simple products of ratios of integers.

On the transfer matrix of the supersymmetric eight-vertex model. II. Open boundary conditions

The transfer matrix of the square-lattice eight-vertex model on a strip with $L\geqslant 1$ vertical lines and open boundary conditions is investigated. It is shown that for vertex weights $a,b,c,d$ that obey the relation $(a^2+ab)(b^2+ab)=(c^2+ab)(d^2+ab)$ and appropriately chosen $K$-matrices $K^\pm$ this transfer matrix possesses the remarkably simple, non-degenerate eigenvalue $Λ_L = (a+b)^{2L}\,\text{tr}(K^+K^-)$. For positive vertex weights, $Λ_L$ is shown to be the largest transfer-matrix eigenvalue. The corresponding eigenspace is equal to the space of the ground states of the Hamiltonian of a related XYZ spin chain. An essential ingredient in the proofs is the supersymmetry of this Hamiltonian.

Symmetry classes of alternating sign matrices in the nineteen-vertex model

The nineteen-vertex model on a periodic lattice with an anti-diagonal twist is investigated. Its inhomogeneous transfer matrix is shown to have a simple eigenvalue, with the corresponding eigenstate displaying intriguing combinatorial features. Similar results were previously found for the same model with a diagonal twist. The eigenstate for the anti-diagonal twist is explicitly constructed using the quantum separation of variables technique. A number of sum rules and special components are computed and expressed in terms of Kuperberg's determinants for partition functions of the inhomogeneous six-vertex model. The computations of some components of the special eigenstate for the diagonal twist are also presented. In the homogeneous limit, the special eigenstates become eigenvectors of the Hamiltonians of the integrable spin-one XXZ chain with twisted boundary conditions. Their sum rules and special components for both twists are expressed in terms of generating functions arising in the weighted enumeration of various symmetry classes of alternating sign matrices (ASMs). These include half-turn symmetric ASMs, quarter-turn symmetric ASMs, vertically symmetric ASMs, vertically and horizontally perverse ASMs and double U-turn ASMs. As side results, new determinant and pfaffian formulas for the weighted enumeration of various symmetry classes of alternating sign matrices are obtained.

On the ground states of the $M_\ell$ models

We study the $M_\ell$ models for lattice fermions with supersymmetry introduced by Fendley, Nienhuis and Schoutens on one-dimensional chains. We determine the number of ground states as a function of the chain length as well as various boundary conditions by solving the corresponding cohomology problem. As an intermediate result we obtain the Cut (and Paste) cohomology isomorphism, which maps the cohomology problem of chains, whose lengths differ by $\ell+2$ sites, onto each other.

Bethe ansatz solvability and supersymmetry of the $M_2$ model of single fermions and pairs

A detailed study of a model for strongly-interacting fermions with exclusion rules and lattice $\mathcal N=2$ supersymmetry is presented. A submanifold in the space of parameters of the model where it is Bethe-ansatz solvable is identified. The relation between this manifold and the existence of additional, so-called dynamic, supersymmetries is discussed. The ground states are analysed with the help of cohomology techniques, and their exact finite-size Bethe roots are found. Moreover, through analytical and numerical studies it is argued that the model provides a lattice version of the $\mathcal N=1$ super-sine-Gordon model at a particular coupling where an additional $\mathcal N=(2,2)$ supersymmetry is present. The dynamic supersymmetry is shown to allow an exact determination of the gap scaling function of the model.

The nineteen-vertex model and alternating sign matrices

It is shown that the transfer matrix of the inhomogeneous nineteen-vertex model with certain diagonal twisted boundary conditions possesses a simple eigenvalue. This is achieved through the identification of a simple and completely explicit solution of its Bethe equations. The corresponding eigenvector is computed by means of the algebraic Bethe ansatz, and both a simple component and its square norm are expressed in terms of the Izergin-Korepin determinant. In the homogeneous limit, the vector coincides with a supersymmetry singlet of the twisted spin-one XXZ chain. It is shown that in a natural polynomial normalisation scheme its square norm and the simple component coincide with generating functions for weighted enumeration of alternating sign matrices.

Spin chains with dynamical lattice supersymmetry

Spin chains with exact supersymmetry on finite one-dimensional lattices are considered. The supercharges are nilpotent operators on the lattice of dynamical nature: they change the number of sites. A local criterion for the nilpotency on periodic lattices is formulated. Any of its solutions leads to a supersymmetric spin chain. It is shown that a class of special solutions at arbitrary spin gives the lattice equivalents of the N=(2,2) superconformal minimal models. The case of spin one is investigated in detail: in particular, it is shown that the Fateev-Zamolodchikov chain and its off-critical extension admits a lattice supersymmetry for all its coupling constants. Its supersymmetry singlets are thoroughly analysed, and a relation between their components and the weighted enumeration of alternating sign matrices is conjectured.

A staggered fermion chain with supersymmetry on open intervals

A strongly-interacting fermion chain with supersymmetry on the lattice and open boundary conditions is analysed. The local coupling constants of the model are staggered, and the properties of the ground states as a function of the staggering parameter are examined. In particular, a connection between certain ground-state components and solutions of non-linear recursion relations associated with the Painlevé VI equation is conjectured. Moreover, various local occupation probabilities in the ground state have the so-called scale-free property, and allow for an exact resummation in the limit of infinite system size.

The eight-vertex model and lattice supersymmetry

We show that the XYZ spin chain along the special line of couplings J_xJ_y+J_xJ_z+J_yJ_z=0 possesses a hidden N=(2,2) supersymmetry. This lattice supersymmetry is non-local and changes the number of sites. It extends to the full transfer matrix of the corresponding eight-vertex model. In particular, it is shown how to derive the supercharges from Baxter's Bethe ansatz. This analysis leads to new conjectures concerning the ground state for chains of odd length. We also discuss a correspondence between the spectrum of this XYZ chain and that of a manifestly supersymmetric staggered fermion chain.

Exact and simple results for the XYZ and strongly interacting fermion chains

We conjecture exact and simple formulas for physical quantities in two quantum chains. A classic result of this type is Onsager, Kaufman and Yang's formula for the spontaneous magnetization in the Ising model, subsequently generalized to the chiral Potts models. We conjecture that analogous results occur in the XYZ chain when the couplings obey J_xJ_y + J_yJ_z + J_x J_z=0, and in a related fermion chain with strong interactions and supersymmetry. We find exact formulas for the magnetization and gap in the former, and the staggered density in the latter, by exploiting the fact that certain quantities are independent of finite-size effects.

Ground-state properties of a supersymmetric fermion chain

We analyze the ground state of a strongly interacting fermion chain with a supersymmetry. We conjecture a number of exact results, such as a hidden duality between weak and strong couplings. By exploiting a scale free property of the perturbative expansions, we find exact expressions for the order parameters, yielding the critical exponents. We show that the ground state of this fermion chain and another model in the same universality class, the XYZ chain along a line of couplings, are both written in terms of the same polynomials. We demonstrate this explicitly for up to N = 24 sites, and provide consistency checks for large N. These polynomials satisfy a recursion relation related to the Painlevé VI differential equation, and using a scale-free property of these polynomials, we derive a simple and exact formula for their limit as N goes to infinity.

The Gaussian free field and SLE(4) on doubly connected domains

The level lines of the Gaussian free field are known to be related to SLE(4). It is shown how this relation allows to define chordal SLE(4) processes on doubly connected domains, describing traces that are anchored on one of the two boundary components. The precise nature of the processes depends on the conformally invariant boundary conditions imposed on the second boundary component. Extensions of Schramm's formula to doubly connected domains are given for the standard Dirichlet and Neumann conditions and a relation to first-exit problems for Brownian bridges is established. For the free field compactified at the self-dual radius, the extended symmetry leads to a class of conformally invariant boundary conditions parametrised by elements of SU(2). It is shown how to extend SLE(4) to this setting. This allows for a derivation of new passage probabilities a la Schramm that interpolate continuously from Dirichlet to Neumann conditions.

One-dimensional classical diffusion in a random force field with weakly concentrated absorbers

A one-dimensional model of classical diffusion in a random force field with a weak concentration $ρ$ of absorbers is studied. The force field is taken as a Gaussian white noise with $\mean{ϕ(x)}=0$ and $\mean{ϕ(x)ϕ(x')}=g δ(x-x')$. Our analysis relies on the relation between the Fokker-Planck operator and a quantum Hamiltonian in which absorption leads to breaking of supersymmetry. Using a Lifshits argument, it is shown that the average return probability is a power law $\smean{P(x,t|x,0)}\sim{}t^{-\sqrt{2ρ/g}}$ (to be compared with the usual Lifshits exponential decay $\exp{-(ρ^2t)^{1/3}}$ in the absence of the random force field). The localisation properties of the underlying quantum Hamiltonian are discussed as well.
