Mean-field Evolution of Fermionic Mixed States

In this paper we study the dynamics of fermionic mixed states in the mean-field regime. We consider initial states which are close to quasi-free states and prove that, under suitable assumptions on the inital data and on the many-body interaction, the quantum evolution of such initial data is well approximated by a suitable quasi-free state. In particular we prove that the evolution of the reduced one-particle density matrix converges, as the number of particles goes to infinity, to the solution of the time-dependent Hartree-Fock equation. Our result holds for all times, and gives effective estimates on the rate of convergence of the many-body dynamics towards the Hartree-Fock one.

Weak dependence for a class of local functionals of Markov chains on $\mathbb{Z}^d$

In some papers on infinite Markov chains in $\mathbb{Z}^d$, and notably in the work of R.A. Minlos and collaborators, one can prove the existence of a spectral gap for a suitable subspace of local functions. We consider functions of the type $f(\widehat η)$, where $\widehat η= \{η_{t}\}_{t=0}^{\infty}$ is the sequence of the states, and $f$ is local. In the case of a simple example of random walk in random environment with mutual interaction we show that there is a natural class of functions $f$, related to the Hölder continuos functions $\mathcal C^α$on the torus $T^{1}$, with $α\in (0,1)$ large enough, depending on the spectral gap, for which the Central Limit Theorem holds for the sequence $f(S^{k}\widehat η)$, $k=0,1,\ldots$, where $S$ is the time shift.

On the validity of the Boltzmann equation for short range potentials

We consider a classical system of point particles interacting by means of a short range potential. We prove that, in the low--density (Boltzmann--Grad) limit, the system behaves, for short times, as predicted by the associated Boltzmann equation. This is a revisitation and an extension of the thesis of King (unpublished), appeared after the well known result of Lanford for hard spheres, and of a recent paper by Gallagher et al (arXiv: 1208.5753v1). Our analysis applies to any stable and smooth potential. In the case of repulsive potentials (with no attractive parts), we estimate explicitly the rate of convergence.

Multivariate Central Limit Theorem in Quantum Dynamics

We consider the time evolution of $N$ bosons in the mean field regime for factorized initial data. In the limit of large $N$, the many body evolution can be approximated by the non-linear Hartree equation. In this paper we are interested in the fluctuations around the Hartree dynamics. We choose $k$ self-adjoint one-particle operators $O_1, \dots, O_k$ on $L^2 (\R^3)$, and we average their action over the $N$-particles. We show that, for every fixed $t \in \R$, expectations of products of functions of the averaged observables approach, as $N \to \infty$, expectations with respect to a complex Gaussian measure, whose covariance matrix can be expressed in terms of a Bogoliubov transformation describing the dynamics of quantum fluctuations around the mean field Hartree evolution. If the operators $O_1, \dots, O_k$ commute, the Gaussian measure is real and positive, and we recover a "classical" multivariate central limit theorem. All our results give explicit bounds on the rate of the convergence (we obtain therefore Berry-Ess{é}en type central limit theorems).

From particle systems to the Landau equation: a consistency result

We consider a system of N classical particles, interacting via a smooth, short- range potential, in a weak-coupling regime. This means that N tends to infinity when the interaction is suitably rescaled. The j-particle marginals, which obey to the usual BBGKY hierarchy, are decomposed into two contributions: one small but strongly oscillating, the other hopefully smooth. Eliminating the first, we arrive to establish the dynamical problem in term of a new hierarchy (for the smooth part) involving a memory term. We show that the first order correction to the free flow converges, as N \rightarrow \infty, to the corresponding term associated to the Landau equation. We also show the related propagation of chaos.
