iWorld-Bench: A Benchmark for Interactive World Models with a Unified Action Generation Framework

Achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) requires agents that learn and interact adaptively, with interactive world models providing scalable environments for perception, reasoning, and action. Yet current research still lacks large-scale datasets and unified benchmarks to evaluate their physical interaction capabilities. To address this, we propose iWorld-Bench, a comprehensive benchmark for training and testing world models on interaction-related abilities such as distance perception and memory. We construct a diverse dataset with 330k video clips and select 2.1k high-quality samples covering varied perspectives, weather, and scenes. As existing world models differ in interaction modalities, we introduce an Action Generation Framework to unify evaluation and design six task types, generating 4.9k test samples. These tasks jointly assess model performance across visual generation, trajectory following, and memory. Evaluating 14 representative world models, we identify key limitations and provide insights for future research. The iWorld-Bench model leaderboard is publicly available at iWorld-Bench.com.

A Survey of Graph Neural Networks for Recommender Systems: Challenges, Methods, and Directions

Recommender system is one of the most important information services on today's Internet. Recently, graph neural networks have become the new state-of-the-art approach to recommender systems. In this survey, we conduct a comprehensive review of the literature on graph neural network-based recommender systems. We first introduce the background and the history of the development of both recommender systems and graph neural networks. For recommender systems, in general, there are four aspects for categorizing existing works: stage, scenario, objective, and application. For graph neural networks, the existing methods consist of two categories, spectral models and spatial ones. We then discuss the motivation of applying graph neural networks into recommender systems, mainly consisting of the high-order connectivity, the structural property of data, and the enhanced supervision signal. We then systematically analyze the challenges in graph construction, embedding propagation/aggregation, model optimization, and computation efficiency. Afterward and primarily, we provide a comprehensive overview of a multitude of existing works of graph neural network-based recommender systems, following the taxonomy above. Finally, we raise discussions on the open problems and promising future directions in this area. Coarse-to-Fine Knowledge-Enhanced Multi-Interest Learning Framework for Multi-Behavior Recommendation

Multi-types of behaviors (e.g., clicking, adding to cart, purchasing, etc.) widely exist in most real-world recommendation scenarios, which are beneficial to learn users' multi-faceted preferences. As dependencies are explicitly exhibited by the multiple types of behaviors, effectively modeling complex behavior dependencies is crucial for multi-behavior prediction. The state-of-the-art multi-behavior models learn behavior dependencies indistinguishably with all historical interactions as input. However, different behaviors may reflect different aspects of user preference, which means that some irrelevant interactions may play as noises to the target behavior to be predicted. To address the aforementioned limitations, we introduce multi-interest learning to the multi-behavior recommendation. More specifically, we propose a novel Coarse-to-fine Knowledge-enhanced Multi-interest Learning (CKML) framework to learn shared and behavior-specific interests for different behaviors. CKML introduces two advanced modules, namely Coarse-grained Interest Extracting (CIE) and Fine-grained Behavioral Correlation (FBC), which work jointly to capture fine-grained behavioral dependencies. CIE uses knowledge-aware information to extract initial representations of each interest. FBC incorporates a dynamic routing scheme to further assign each behavior among interests. Additionally, we use the self-attention mechanism to correlate different behavioral information at the interest level. Empirical results on three real-world datasets verify the effectiveness and efficiency of our model in exploiting multi-behavior data. Further experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of each module and the robustness and superiority of the shared and specific modelling paradigm for multi-behavior data.

DisenHCN: Disentangled Hypergraph Convolutional Networks for Spatiotemporal Activity Prediction

Spatiotemporal activity prediction, aiming to predict user activities at a specific location and time, is crucial for applications like urban planning and mobile advertising. Existing solutions based on tensor decomposition or graph embedding suffer from the following two major limitations: 1) ignoring the fine-grained similarities of user preferences; 2) user's modeling is entangled. In this work, we propose a hypergraph neural network model called DisenHCN to bridge the above gaps. In particular, we first unify the fine-grained user similarity and the complex matching between user preferences and spatiotemporal activity into a heterogeneous hypergraph. We then disentangle the user representations into different aspects (location-aware, time-aware, and activity-aware) and aggregate corresponding aspect's features on the constructed hypergraph, capturing high-order relations from different aspects and disentangles the impact of each aspect for final prediction. Extensive experiments show that our DisenHCN outperforms the state-of-the-art methods by 14.23% to 18.10% on four real-world datasets. Further studies also convincingly verify the rationality of each component in our DisenHCN.

Disentangling Long and Short-Term Interests for Recommendation

Modeling user's long-term and short-term interests is crucial for accurate recommendation. However, since there is no manually annotated label for user interests, existing approaches always follow the paradigm of entangling these two aspects, which may lead to inferior recommendation accuracy and interpretability. In this paper, to address it, we propose a Contrastive learning framework to disentangle Long and Short-term interests for Recommendation (CLSR) with self-supervision. Specifically, we first propose two separate encoders to independently capture user interests of different time scales. We then extract long-term and short-term interests proxies from the interaction sequences, which serve as pseudo labels for user interests. Then pairwise contrastive tasks are designed to supervise the similarity between interest representations and their corresponding interest proxies. Finally, since the importance of long-term and short-term interests is dynamically changing, we propose to adaptively aggregate them through an attention-based network for prediction. We conduct experiments on two large-scale real-world datasets for e-commerce and short-video recommendation. Empirical results show that our CLSR consistently outperforms all state-of-the-art models with significant improvements: GAUC is improved by over 0.01, and NDCG is improved by over 4%. Further counterfactual evaluations demonstrate that stronger disentanglement of long and short-term interests is successfully achieved by CLSR. DVR: Micro-Video Recommendation Optimizing Watch-Time-Gain under Duration Bias

Recommender systems are prone to be misled by biases in the data. Models trained with biased data fail to capture the real interests of users, thus it is critical to alleviate the impact of bias to achieve unbiased recommendation. In this work, we focus on an essential bias in micro-video recommendation, duration bias. Specifically, existing micro-video recommender systems usually consider watch time as the most critical metric, which measures how long a user watches a video. Since videos with longer duration tend to have longer watch time, there exists a kind of duration bias, making longer videos tend to be recommended more against short videos. In this paper, we empirically show that commonly-used metrics are vulnerable to duration bias, making them NOT suitable for evaluating micro-video recommendation. To address it, we further propose an unbiased evaluation metric, called WTG (short for Watch Time Gain). Empirical results reveal that WTG can alleviate duration bias and better measure recommendation performance. Moreover, we design a simple yet effective model named DVR (short for Debiased Video Recommendation) that can provide unbiased recommendation of micro-videos with varying duration, and learn unbiased user preferences via adversarial learning. Extensive experiments based on two real-world datasets demonstrate that DVR successfully eliminates duration bias and significantly improves recommendation performance with over 30% relative progress. Existence of blowup solutions to Boussinesq equations on $\mathbb{R}^3$ with dissipative temperature

The three-dimensional incompressible Boussinesq system is one of the important equations in fluid dynamics. The system describes the motion of temperature-dependent incompressible flows. And the temperature naturally has diffusion. Recently, Elgindi, Ghoul and Masmoudi constructed a $C^{1,α}$ finite time blow-up solutions for Euler systems with finite energy. Inspired by their works, we constructed $C^{1,α}$ finite time blow-up solution for Boussinesq equations where the temperature has diffusion and finite energy. Generally speaking, the diffusion of temperature smooths the solution of the system which is against the formations of singularity. The main difficulty is that the Laplace operator of the temperature equation is not coercive under the Sobolev weighted norm introduced by Elgindi. We introduced a new time depending scaling formulation and new weighted Sobolev norms, under which we obtain the nonlinear estimate. The new norm is well-coupled with the original norm, which enables us to finish the proof.

Practitioners Versus Users: A Value-Sensitive Evaluation of Current Industrial Recommender System Design

Recommender systems are playing an increasingly important role in alleviating information overload and supporting users' various needs, e.g., consumption, socialization, and entertainment. However, limited research focuses on how values should be extensively considered in industrial deployments of recommender systems, the ignorance of which can be problematic. To fill this gap, in this paper, we adopt Value Sensitive Design to comprehensively explore how practitioners and users recognize different values of current industrial recommender systems. Based on conceptual and empirical investigations, we focus on five values: recommendation quality, privacy, transparency, fairness, and trustworthiness. We further conduct in-depth qualitative interviews with 20 users and 10 practitioners to delve into their opinions about these values. Our results reveal the existence and sources of tensions between practitioners and users in terms of value interpretation, evaluation, and practice, which provide novel implications for designing more human-centric and value-sensitive recommender systems.

Reinforced Structured State-Evolution for Vision-Language Navigation

Vision-and-language Navigation (VLN) task requires an embodied agent to navigate to a remote location following a natural language instruction. Previous methods usually adopt a sequence model (e.g., Transformer and LSTM) as the navigator. In such a paradigm, the sequence model predicts action at each step through a maintained navigation state, which is generally represented as a one-dimensional vector. However, the crucial navigation clues (i.e., object-level environment layout) for embodied navigation task is discarded since the maintained vector is essentially unstructured. In this paper, we propose a novel Structured state-Evolution (SEvol) model to effectively maintain the environment layout clues for VLN. Specifically, we utilise the graph-based feature to represent the navigation state instead of the vector-based state. Accordingly, we devise a Reinforced Layout clues Miner (RLM) to mine and detect the most crucial layout graph for long-term navigation via a customised reinforcement learning strategy. Moreover, the Structured Evolving Module (SEM) is proposed to maintain the structured graph-based state during navigation, where the state is gradually evolved to learn the object-level spatial-temporal relationship. The experiments on the R2R and R4R datasets show that the proposed SEvol model improves VLN models' performance by large margins, e.g., +3% absolute SPL accuracy for NvEM and +8% for EnvDrop on the R2R test set.

Remaining Useful Life Prediction Using Temporal Deep Degradation Network for Complex Machinery with Attention-based Feature Extraction

The precise estimate of remaining useful life (RUL) is vital for the prognostic analysis and predictive maintenance that can significantly reduce failure rate and maintenance costs. The degradation-related features extracted from the sensor streaming data with neural networks can dramatically improve the accuracy of the RUL prediction. The Temporal deep degradation network (TDDN) model is proposed to make the RUL prediction with the degradation-related features given by the one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D CNN) feature extraction and attention mechanism. 1D CNN is used to extract the temporal features from the streaming sensor data. Temporal features have monotonic degradation trends from the fluctuating raw sensor streaming data. Attention mechanism can improve the RUL prediction performance by capturing the fault characteristics and the degradation development with the attention weights. The performance of the TDDN model is evaluated on the public C-MAPSS dataset and compared with the existing methods. The results show that the TDDN model can achieve the best RUL prediction accuracy in complex conditions compared to current machine learning models. The degradation-related features extracted from the high-dimension sensor streaming data demonstrate the clear degradation trajectories and degradation stages that enable TDDN to predict the turbofan-engine RUL accurately and efficiently.

Disentangling User Interest and Conformity for Recommendation with Causal Embedding

Recommendation models are usually trained on observational interaction data. However, observational interaction data could result from users' conformity towards popular items, which entangles users' real interest. Existing methods tracks this problem as eliminating popularity bias, e.g., by re-weighting training samples or leveraging a small fraction of unbiased data. However, the variety of user conformity is ignored by these approaches, and different causes of an interaction are bundled together as unified representations, hence robustness and interpretability are not guaranteed when underlying causes are changing. In this paper, we present DICE, a general framework that learns representations where interest and conformity are structurally disentangled, and various backbone recommendation models could be smoothly integrated. We assign users and items with separate embeddings for interest and conformity, and make each embedding capture only one cause by training with cause-specific data which is obtained according to the colliding effect of causal inference. Our proposed methodology outperforms state-of-the-art baselines with remarkable improvements on two real-world datasets on top of various backbone models. We further demonstrate that the learned embeddings successfully capture the desired causes, and show that DICE guarantees the robustness and interpretability of recommendation.

AdversarialNAS: Adversarial Neural Architecture Search for GANs

Neural Architecture Search (NAS) that aims to automate the procedure of architecture design has achieved promising results in many computer vision fields. In this paper, we propose an AdversarialNAS method specially tailored for Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to search for a superior generative model on the task of unconditional image generation. The AdversarialNAS is the first method that can search the architectures of generator and discriminator simultaneously in a differentiable manner. During searching, the designed adversarial search algorithm does not need to comput any extra metric to evaluate the performance of the searched architecture, and the search paradigm considers the relevance between the two network architectures and improves their mutual balance. Therefore, AdversarialNAS is very efficient and only takes 1 GPU day to search for a superior generative model in the proposed large search space ($10^{38}$). Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our method. The discovered generative model sets a new state-of-the-art FID score of $10.87$ and highly competitive Inception Score of $8.74$ on CIFAR-10. Its transferability is also proven by setting new state-of-the-art FID score of $26.98$ and Inception score of $9.63$ on STL-10. Code is at: \url{https://github.com/chengaopro/AdversarialNAS}.

Bundle Recommendation with Graph Convolutional Networks

Bundle recommendation aims to recommend a bundle of items for a user to consume as a whole. Existing solutions integrate user-item interaction modeling into bundle recommendation by sharing model parameters or learning in a multi-task manner, which cannot explicitly model the affiliation between items and bundles, and fail to explore the decision-making when a user chooses bundles. In this work, we propose a graph neural network model named BGCN (short for \textit{\textBF{B}undle \textBF{G}raph \textBF{C}onvolutional \textBF{N}etwork}) for bundle recommendation. BGCN unifies user-item interaction, user-bundle interaction and bundle-item affiliation into a heterogeneous graph. With item nodes as the bridge, graph convolutional propagation between user and bundle nodes makes the learned representations capture the item level semantics. Through training based on hard-negative sampler, the user's fine-grained preferences for similar bundles are further distinguished. Empirical results on two real-world datasets demonstrate the strong performance gains of BGCN, which outperforms the state-of-the-art baselines by 10.77\% to 23.18\%.

DRG: Dual Relation Graph for Human-Object Interaction Detection

We tackle the challenging problem of human-object interaction (HOI) detection. Existing methods either recognize the interaction of each human-object pair in isolation or perform joint inference based on complex appearance-based features. In this paper, we leverage an abstract spatial-semantic representation to describe each human-object pair and aggregate the contextual information of the scene via a dual relation graph (one human-centric and one object-centric). Our proposed dual relation graph effectively captures discriminative cues from the scene to resolve ambiguity from local predictions. Our model is conceptually simple and leads to favorable results compared to the state-of-the-art HOI detection algorithms on two large-scale benchmark datasets.

Flow-edge Guided Video Completion

We present a new flow-based video completion algorithm. Previous flow completion methods are often unable to retain the sharpness of motion boundaries. Our method first extracts and completes motion edges, and then uses them to guide piecewise-smooth flow completion with sharp edges. Existing methods propagate colors among local flow connections between adjacent frames. However, not all missing regions in a video can be reached in this way because the motion boundaries form impenetrable barriers. Our method alleviates this problem by introducing non-local flow connections to temporally distant frames, enabling propagating video content over motion boundaries. We validate our approach on the DAVIS dataset. Both visual and quantitative results show that our method compares favorably against the state-of-the-art algorithms.

Learning to Recommend with Multiple Cascading Behaviors

Most existing recommender systems leverage user behavior data of one type only, such as the purchase behavior in E-commerce that is directly related to the business KPI (Key Performance Indicator) of conversion rate. Besides the key behavioral data, we argue that other forms of user behaviors also provide valuable signal, such as views, clicks, adding a product to shop carts and so on. They should be taken into account properly to provide quality recommendation for users. In this work, we contribute a new solution named NMTR (short for Neural Multi-Task Recommendation) for learning recommender systems from user multi-behavior data. We develop a neural network model to capture the complicated and multi-type interactions between users and items. In particular, our model accounts for the cascading relationship among different types of behaviors (e.g., a user must click on a product before purchasing it). To fully exploit the signal in the data of multiple types of behaviors, we perform a joint optimization based on the multi-task learning framework, where the optimization on a behavior is treated as a task. Extensive experiments on two real-world datasets demonstrate that NMTR significantly outperforms state-of-the-art recommender systems that are designed to learn from both single-behavior data and multi-behavior data. Further analysis shows that modeling multiple behaviors is particularly useful for providing recommendation for sparse users that have very few interactions.

NAS-DIP: Learning Deep Image Prior with Neural Architecture Search

Recent work has shown that the structure of deep convolutional neural networks can be used as a structured image prior for solving various inverse image restoration tasks. Instead of using hand-designed architectures, we propose to search for neural architectures that capture stronger image priors. Building upon a generic U-Net architecture, our core contribution lies in designing new search spaces for (1) an upsampling cell and (2) a pattern of cross-scale residual connections. We search for an improved network by leveraging an existing neural architecture search algorithm (using reinforcement learning with a recurrent neural network controller). We validate the effectiveness of our method via a wide variety of applications, including image restoration, dehazing, image-to-image translation, and matrix factorization. Extensive experimental results show that our algorithm performs favorably against state-of-the-art learning-free approaches and reaches competitive performance with existing learning-based methods in some cases.

Price-aware Recommendation with Graph Convolutional Networks

In recent years, much research effort on recommendation has been devoted to mining user behaviors, i.e., collaborative filtering, along with the general information which describes users or items, e.g., textual attributes, categorical demographics, product images, and so on. Price, an important factor in marketing --- which determines whether a user will make the final purchase decision on an item --- surprisingly, has received relatively little scrutiny. In this work, we aim at developing an effective method to predict user purchase intention with the focus on the price factor in recommender systems. The main difficulties are two-fold: 1) the preference and sensitivity of a user on item price are unknown, which are only implicitly reflected in the items that the user has purchased, and 2) how the item price affects a user's intention depends largely on the product category, that is, the perception and affordability of a user on item price could vary significantly across categories. Towards the first difficulty, we propose to model the transitive relationship between user-to-item and item-to-price, taking the inspiration from the recently developed Graph Convolution Networks (GCN). The key idea is to propagate the influence of price on users with items as the bridge, so as to make the learned user representations be price-aware. For the second difficulty, we further integrate item categories into the propagation progress and model the possible pairwise interactions for predicting user-item interactions. We conduct extensive experiments on two real-world datasets, demonstrating the effectiveness of our GCN-based method in learning the price-aware preference of users. Further analysis reveals that modeling the price awareness is particularly useful for predicting user preference on items of unexplored categories.

Recapture as You Want

With the increasing prevalence and more powerful camera systems of mobile devices, people can conveniently take photos in their daily life, which naturally brings the demand for more intelligent photo post-processing techniques, especially on those portrait photos. In this paper, we present a portrait recapture method enabling users to easily edit their portrait to desired posture/view, body figure and clothing style, which are very challenging to achieve since it requires to simultaneously perform non-rigid deformation of human body, invisible body-parts reasoning and semantic-aware editing. We decompose the editing procedure into semantic-aware geometric and appearance transformation. In geometric transformation, a semantic layout map is generated that meets user demands to represent part-level spatial constraints and further guides the semantic-aware appearance transformation. In appearance transformation, we design two novel modules, Semantic-aware Attentive Transfer (SAT) and Layout Graph Reasoning (LGR), to conduct intra-part transfer and inter-part reasoning, respectively. SAT module produces each human part by paying attention to the semantically consistent regions in the source portrait. It effectively addresses the non-rigid deformation issue and well preserves the intrinsic structure/appearance with rich texture details. LGR module utilizes body skeleton knowledge to construct a layout graph that connects all relevant part features, where graph reasoning mechanism is used to propagate information among part nodes to mine their relations. In this way, LGR module infers invisible body parts and guarantees global coherence among all the parts. Extensive experiments on DeepFashion, Market-1501 and in-the-wild photos demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our approach. Video demo is at: \url{https://youtu.be/vTyq9HL6jgw}.
