Design and experiment of electronic speckle shearing phase-shifting pattern interferometer

An electronic speckle shearing phase-shifting pattern interferometer (ESSPPI) based on Michelson interferometer was based in this paper. A rotatable mirror driven by a step motor in one of its reflective arm is used to generate an adjustable shearing and the mirror driven by piezoelectric transducer (PZT) in the other reflective arm was used to realize phaseshifting. In the experiments, the deformation of an aluminum plate with the same extern-force on different positions and different forces on the same position is measured. Meanwhile, the phase distribution and phase-unwrap image of the aluminum plate with the extern-force on its center position is obtained by the four-step phase-shifting method.

Mn-doping induced ferromagnetism and enhanced superconductivity in Bi_4-x Mn_x O_4 S_3 (0.075 < = x < = 0.15)

We demonstrate that Mn-doping in the layered sulfides Bi_4O_4S_3 leads to stable Bi_4-x Mn_x O_4 S_3 compounds that exhibit both long-range ferromagnetism and enhanced superconductivity for 0.075 < = x < = 0.15, with a possible record superconducting transition temperature (T_c) = 15 K among all BiS_2-based superconductors. We conjecture that the coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism may be attributed to Mn-doping in the spacer Bi2O2 layers away from the superconducting BiS_2 layers, whereas the enhancement of T_c may be due to excess electron transfer to BiS_2 from the Mn4+/Mn3+-substitutions in Bi_2O_2. This notion is empirically corroborated by the increased electron-carrier densities upon Mn doping, and by further studies of the Bi_4-x A_x O_4 S_3 compounds (A = Co, Ni; x = 0.1, 0.125), where the T_c values remain comparable to that of the undoped Bi_4O_4S_3 system (= 4.5 K) due to lack of 4+ valences in either Co or Ni ions for excess electron transfer to the BiS_2 layers. These findings therefore shed new light on feasible pathways to enhance the T_c values of BiS_2-based superconductors.

An indirect magnetic approach for determining entropy change in first-order magnetocaloric materials

Taking into account the phase fraction during transition for the first-order magnetocaloric materials, an improved isothermal entropy change determination has been put forward based on the Clausius-Clapeyron (CC) equation. It was found that the isothermal entropy change value evaluated by our method is in excellent agreement with those determined from the Maxwell-relation (MR) for Ni-Mn-Sn Heusler alloys, which usually presents a weak field-induced phase transforming behavior. In comparison with MR, this method could give rise to a favorable result derived from few thermomagnetic measurements. More importantly, we can eliminate the isothermal entropy change overestimation derived from MR, which always exists in the cases of Ni-Co-Mn-In and MnAs systems with a prominent field-induced transition. These results confirmed that such a CC-equation-based method is quite practical and superior to the MR-based ones in eliminating the spurious spike and reducing measuring cost.
