Gorenstein projective modules over rings of Morita contexts

Under semi-weak and weak compatibility of bimodules, we establish sufficient and necessary conditions of Gorenstein-projective modules over rings of Morita contexts with one bimodule homomorphism zero. This generalises and extends results on triangular matrix Artin algebras and on Artin algebras of Morita contexts with two bimodule homomorphisms zero in the literature, where only sufficient conditions are given under a strong assumption of compatibility of bimodules. An application is provided to describe Gorenstein-projective modules over noncommutative tensor products arising from Morita contexts. Moreover, we work with Noether rings and modules instead of Artin algebras and modules.

Invariant algebras of matrices and symmetric polynomials of partitions

For a field $R$ of characteristic $p\ge 0$ and a matrix $c$ in the full $n\times n$ matrix algebra $M_n(R)$ over $R$, let $S_n(c,R)$ be the centralizer algebra of $c$ in $M_n(R)$. We show that $S_n(c,R)$ is a Frobenius-finite, $1$-Auslander-Gorenstein, and gendo-symmetric algebra, and that the extension $S_n(c,R)\subseteq M_n(R)$ is separable and Frobenius. Further, we study the isomorphism problem of invariant matrix algebras. Let $σ$ be a permutation in the symmetric group $Σ_n$ and $c_σ$ the corresponding permutation matrix in $M_n(R)$. We give sufficient and necessary conditions for the invariant algebra $S_n(c_σ,R)$ to be semisimple. If $R$ is an algebraically closed field, we establish a combinatoric characterization of when two semisimple invariant $R$-algebras are isomorphic in terms of the cycle types of permutations.

Representation dimensions linked by Frobenius bimodules with applications to group algebras

We establish relations between representation dimensions of two algebras connected by a Frobenius bimodule or extension. Consequently, upper bounds and equality formulas for representation dimensions of group algebras, symmetric separably equivalent algebras and crossed products are obtained. Particularly, for any subgroup H of a finite group G, if [G:H] is invertible in a field, then the representation dimensions of the group algebras of G and H over the field are the same.

Cellularity of centrosymmetric matrix algebras and Frobenius extensions

Centrosymmetric matrices of order $n$ over an arbitrary algebra $R$ form a subalgebra of the full $n\times n$ matrix algebra over $R$. It is called the centrosymmetric matrix algebra of order $n$ over $R$ and denoted by $S_n(R)$. We prove (1) $S_n(R)$ is Morita equivalent to $S_2(R)$ if $n$ is even, and to $S_3(R)$ if $n\ge 3$ is odd; (2) the full $n\times n$ matrix algebra over $R$ is a separable Frobenius extension of $S_n(R)$; and (3) if $R$ is a commutative ring, then $S_n(R)$ is a cellular $R$-algebra in the sense of Graham-Lehrer for all $n\ge 1$.

Derived equivalences and stable equivalences of Morita type, II

Motivated by understanding the Broué's abelian defect group conjecture from algebraic point of view, we consider the question of how to lift a stable equivalence of Morita type between arbitrary finite dimensional algebras to a derived equivalence. In this paper, we present a machinery to solve this question for a class of stable equivalences of Morita type. In particular, we show that every stable equivalence of Morita type between Frobenius-finite algebras over an algebraically closed field can be lifted to a derived equivalence. %Thus Frobenius-finite algebras share many common %invariants of both derived equivalences and stable equivalences. Especially, Auslander-Reiten conjecrure is true for stable equivalences of Morita type between Frobenius-finite algebras without semisimple direct summands. Examples of such a class of algebras are abundant, including Auslander algebras, cluster-tilted algebras and certain Frobenius extensions. As a byproduct of our methods, we further show that, for a Nakayama-stable idempotent element $e$ in an algebra $A$ over an arbitrary field, each tilting complex over $eAe$ can be extended to a tilting complex over $A$ that induces an almost $ν$-stable derived equivalence studied in the first paper of this series. Moreover, we demonstrate that our techniques are applicable to verify the Broué's abelian defect group conjecture for several cases mentioned by Okuyama.

Recollements of derived categories II: Algebraic K-theory

For a recollement of derived module categories of rings, we provide sufficient conditions to guarantee the additivity formula of higher algebraic K-groups of the rings involved, and establish a long Mayer-Vietoris exact sequence of higher algebraic K-groups for homological exact contexts introduced in the first paper of this series. Our results are then applied to recollements induced from homological ring epimorphisms and noncommutative localizations. Consequently, we get an infinitely long Mayer-Vietoris exact sequence of K-theory for Milnor squares, re-obtain a result of Karoubi on localizations and a result on generalized free products pioneered by Waldhausen and developed by Neeman and Ranicki. In particular, we describe algebraic $K$-groups of the free product of two groups over a regular coherent ring as the ones of the noncommutative tensor product of an exact context. This yields a new description of algebraic $K$-theory of infinite dihedral group.

Ringel modules and homological subcategories

Given a good $n$-tilting module $T$ over a ring $A$, let $B$ be the endomorphism ring of $T$, it is an open question whether the kernel of the left-derived functor $T\otimes^L_B-$ between the derived module categories of $B$ and $A$ could be realized as the derived module category of a ring $C$ via a ring epimorphism $B\rightarrow C$ for $n\ge 2$. In this paper, we first provide a uniform way to deal with the above question both for tilting and cotilting modules by considering a new class of modules called Ringel modules, and then give criterions for the kernel of $T\otimes^L_B-$ to be equivalent to the derived module category of a ring $C$ with a ring epimorphism $B\rightarrow C$. Using these characterizations, we display both a positive example of $n$-tilting modules from noncommutative algebra, and a counterexample of $n$-tilting modules from commutative algebra to show that, in general, the open question may have a negative answer. As another application of our methods, we consider the dual question for cotilting modules, and get corresponding criterions and counterexamples. The case of cotilting modules, however, is much more complicated than the case of tilting modules.

Higher algebraic $K$-groups and $\mathcal D$-split sequences

In this paper, we use $\mathcal D$-split sequences and derived equivalences to provide formulas for calculation of higher algebraic $K$-groups (or mod-$p$ $K$-groups) of certain matrix subrings which cover tiled orders, rings related to chains of Glaz-Vasconcelos ideals, and some other classes of rings. In our results, we do not assume any homological requirements on rings and ideals under investigation, and therefore extend sharply many existing results of this type in the algebraic $K$-theory literature to a more general context.

Stratifications of derived categories from tilting modules over tame hereditary algebras

In this paper, we consider the endomorphism algebras of infinitely generated tilting modules of the form $R_{\mathcal U}\oplus R_{\mathcal U}/R$ over tame hereditary $k$-algebras $R$ with $k$ an arbitrary field, where $R_{\mathcal{U}}$ is the universal localization of $R$ at an arbitrary set $\mathcal{U}$ of simple regular $R$-modules, and show that the derived module category of $\End_R(R_{\mathcal U}\oplus R_{\mathcal U}/R)$ is a recollement of the derived module category $\D{R}$ of $R$ and the derived module category $\D{{\mathbb A}_{\mathcal{U}}}$ of the adèle ring ${\mathbb A}_{\mathcal{U}}$ associated with $\mathcal{U}$. When $k$ is an algebraically closed field, the ring ${\mathbb A}_{\mathcal{U}}$ can be precisely described in terms of Laurent power series ring $k((x))$ over $k$. Moreover, if $\mathcal U$ is a union of finitely many cliques, we give two different stratifications of the derived category of $\End_R(R_{\mathcal U}\oplus R_{\mathcal U}/R)$ by derived categories of rings, such that the two stratifications are of different finite lengths.

Derived equivalences for $Φ$-Auslander-Yoneda algebras

In this paper, we introduce $Φ$-Auslander-Yoneda algebras in a triangulated category with $Φ$ a parameter set in $\mathbb N$, and provide a method to construct new derived equivalences between these $Φ$-Auslander-Yoneda algebras (not necessarily Artin algebras), or their quotient algebras, from a given almost $ν$-stable derived equivalence. As consequences of our method, we have: (1) Suppose that $A$ and $B$ are representation-finite, self-injective Artin algebras with $_AX$ and $_BY$ additive generators for $A$ and $B$, respectively. If $A$ and $B$ are derived-equivalent, then the $Φ$-Auslander-Yoneda algebras of $X$ and $Y$ are derived-equivalent for every admissible set $Φ$. In particular, the Auslander algebras of $A$ and $B$ are both derived-equivalent and stably equivalent. (2) For a self-injective Artin algeba $A$ and an $A$-module $X$, the $Φ$-Auslander-Yoneda algebras of $A\oplus X$ and $A\oplus Ω_A(X)$ are derived-equivalent for every admissible set $Φ$, where $Ω$ is the Heller loop operator. Motivated by these derived equivalences between $Φ$-Auslander-Yoneda algebras, we consider constructions of derived equivalences for quotient algebras, and show, among others, that a derived equivalence between two basic self-injective algebras may transfer to a derived equivalence between their quotient algebras obtained by factorizing out socles.

Good tilting modules and recollements of derived module categories

Let $T$ be an infinitely generated tilting module of projective dimension at most one over an arbitrary associative ring $A$, and let $B$ be the endomorphism ring of $T$. In this paper, we prove that if $T$ is good then there exists a ring $C$, a homological ring epimorphism $B\ra C$ and a recollement among the (unbounded) derived module categories $\D{C}$ of $C$, $\D{B}$ of $B$, and $\D{A}$ of $A$. In particular, the kernel of the total left derived functor $T\otimes_B^{\mathbb L}-$ is triangle equivalent to the derived module category $\D{C}$. Conversely, if the functor $T\otimes_B^{\mathbb L}-$ admits a fully faithful left adjoint functor, then $T$ is a good tilting module. We apply our result to tilting modules arising from ring epimorphisms, and can then describe the rings $C$ as coproducts of two relevant rings. Further, in case of commutative rings, we can weaken the condition of being tilting modules, strengthen the rings $C$ as tensor products of two commutative rings, and get similar recollements. Consequently, we can produce examples (from commutative algebra and $p$-adic number theory, or Kronecker algebra) to show that two different stratifications of the derived module category of a ring by derived module categories of rings may have completely different derived composition factors (even up to ordering and up to derived equivalence),or different lengths. This shows that the Jordan-Hölder theorem fails even for stratifications by derived module categories, and also answers negatively an open problem by Angeleri-Hügel, König and Liu.

Inductions and restrictions for stable equivalences of Morita type

In this paper, we present two methods, induction and restriction procedures, to construct new stable equivalences of Morita type. Suppose that a stable equivalence of Morita type between two algebras $A$ and $B$ is defined by a $B$-$A$-bimodule $N$. Then, for any finite admissible set $Φ$ and any generator $X$ of the $A$-module category, the $Φ$-Auslander-Yoneda algebras of $X$ and $N\otimes_AX$ are stably equivalent of Morita type. Moreover, under certain conditions, we transfer stable equivalences of Morita type between $A$ and $B$ to ones between $eAe$ and $fBf$, where $e$ and $f$ are idempotent elements in $A$ and $B$, respectively. Consequently, for self-injective algebras $A$ and $B$ over a field without semisimple direct summands, and for any $A$-module $X$ and $B$-module $Y$, if the $Φ$-Auslander-Yoneda algebras of $A\oplus X$ and $B\oplus Y$ are stably equivalent of Morita type for one finite admissible set $Φ$, then so are the $Ψ$-Auslander-Yoneda algebras of $A\oplus X$ and $B\oplus Y$ for {\it every} finite admissible set $Ψ$. Moreover, two representation-finite algebras over a field without semisimple direct summands are stably equivalent of Morita type if and only if so are their Auslander algebras. As another consequence, we construct an infinite family of algebras of the same dimension and the same dominant dimension such that they are pairwise derived equivalent, but not stably equivalent of Morita type. This answers a question by Thorsten Holm.
