RNA substructure as a random matrix ensemble

Combinatorial analysis of a certain abstract of RNA structures has been studied to investigate their statistics. Our approach regards the backbone of secondary structures as an alternate sequence of paired and unpaired sets of nucleotides, which can be described by random matrix model. We obtain the generating function of the structures using Hermitian matrix model with Chebyshev polynomial of the second kind and analyze the statistics with respect to the number of stems. To match the experimental findings of the statistical behavior, we consider the structures in a grand canonical ensemble and find a fugacity value corresponding to an appropriate number of stems.

The null identities for boundary operators in the $(2,2p+1)$ minimal gravity

By using the matrix-model representation, we show that correlation numbers of boundary changing operators (BCO) in $(2,2p+1)$ minimal Liouville gravity satisfy some identities, which we call the null identities. These identities enable us to express the correlation numbers of BCO in terms of those of boundary preserving operators. We also discuss a physical implication of the null identities as the manifestation of the boundary interaction.

Irregular conformal block, spectral curve and flow equations

Irregular conformal block is motivated by the Argyres-Douglas type of N=2 super conformal gauge theory. We investigate the classical/NS limit of the irregular conformal block using spectral curve on a Riemann surface with irregular punctures, which is equivalent to the loop equation of irregular matrix model. The spectral curve is reduced to the second order (Virasoro symmetry, $SU(2)$ for the gauge theory) and third order ($W_3$ symmetry, $SU(3)$) differential equations of a polynomial with finite degree. The Virasoro and W symmetry generate flow equations in the spectral curve and determine the irregular conformal block, hence the partition function of the Argyres-Douglas theory ala AGT conjecture.

Irregular Vertex Operators for Irregular Conformal Blocks

We construct the free field representation of irregular vertex operators of arbitrary rank which generates simultaneous eigenstates of positive modes of Virasoro and W symmetry generators. The irregular vertex operators turn out to be the exponentials of combinations of derivatives of Liouville or Toda fields, creating irregular coherent states. We compute examples of correlation functions of these operators and study their operator algebra.

Super-spectral curve of irregular conformal blocks

We use super-spectral curve to investigate irregular conformal states of integer and half-odd integer rank. The spectral curve is the loop equation of supersymmetrized irregular matrix model. The case of integer rank corresponds to the colliding limit of supersymmetric vertex operators of NS sector and half-odd integer to the Ramond sectors. The spectral curve is simply integrable at Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit and the partition function (inner product of irregular conformal state) is obtained from the superconformal structure manifest in the spectral curve. We present some explicit forms of the partition function of integer (NS sector) and of half-odd ranks (Ramond sector).

Vertex Operators for Irregular Conformal Blocks: Supersymmetric Case

We construct supersymmetric irregular vertex operators of arbitrary rank, appearing in the colliding limit of primary fields. We find that the structure of the supersymmetric irregular vertices differs significantly from the bosonic case: upon supersymmetrization, the irregular operators are no longer the eigenstates of positive Virasoro and $W_N$ generators but block-diagonalize them. We relate the block-diagonal structure of the irregular vertices to contributions of the Ramond sector to the colliding limit.

Classical Virasoro irregular conformal block II

We present a new systematic way to evaluate the classical limit of the Virasoro irregular conformal block for arbitrary rank n based on the irregular partition function. In addition, we prove that the classical irregular conformal block has the exponential form as suggested by A. Zamolodchikov and Al. Zamolodchikov for the regular case. We provide an explicit calculation for the rank 2 case in detail.

Irregular matrix model with $\mathcal W$ symmetry

We present the irregular matrix model which has contains $\mathcal{W}_3$ and Virasoro symmetry. The irregular matrix model is obtained using the colliding limit of the Toda field theories and produces the inner product between irregular modules of $\mathcal{W}_3$ symmetry. We evaluate the partition function using the flow equation which is the realization of the Virasoro and $\mathcal{W}$-symmetry.

Construction of Gaiotto states with fundamental multiplets through Degenerate DAHA

We construct Gaiotto states with fundamental multiplets in $SU(N)$ gauge theories, in terms of the orthonormal basis of spherical degenerate double affine Hecke algebra (SH in short), the representations of which are equivalent to those of $W_n$ algebra with additional $U(1)$ current. The generalized Whittaker conditions are demonstrated under the action of SH, and further rewritten in terms of $W_n$ algebra. Our approach not only consists with the existing literature but also holds for general $SU(N)$ case.

Virasoro irregular conformal block and beta deformed random matrix model

Virasoro irregular conformal block is presented as the expectation value of Jack-polynomials of the beta-deformed Penner-type matrix model and is compared with the inner product of Gaiotto states with arbitrary rank. It is confirmed that there are non-trivial modifications of the Gaiotto states due to the normalization of the states. The relation between the two is explicitly checked for rank 2 irregular conformal block.

Parametric dependence of irregular conformal block

Irregular conformal block is an important tool to study a new type of conformal theories, which can be constructed as the colliding limit of the regular conformal block. The irregular conformal block is realized as the $β$-deformed Penner matrix model whose partition function is regarded as the inner product of the irregular modules. The parameter dependence of the inner product is obtained explicitly using the loop equation with close attention to singularities in the parameter space. It is noted that the exact singular structure of the parameter space in general can be found using a very simple and powerful method which uses the flow equations of the partition function together with the hierarchical structure of the singularity. This method gives the exact expression to all orders of large $N$ expansion without using the explicit contour integral of the filling fraction.

Irregular conformal block and its matrix model

Irregular conformal block is a new tool to study Argyres-Douglas theory, whose irregular vector is represented as a simultaneous eigenstate of a set of positive Virasoro generators. One way to find the irregular conformal block is to use the partition function of the β-ensemble of hermitian matrix model. So far the method is limited to the case of irregular singularity of even degree. In this letter, we present a new matrix model for the case of odd degree and calculate its partition function. The model is different from the previous one in that its potential has additional factor of square root of matrix.

Matrix models for irregular conformal blocks and Argyres-Douglas theories

As regular conformal blocks describe the N=2 superconformal gauge theories in four dimensions, irregular conformal blocks are expected to reproduce the instanton partition functions of the Argyres-Douglas theories. In this paper, we construct matrix models which reproduce the irregular conformal conformal blocks of the Liouville theory on sphere, by taking a colliding limit of the Penner-type matrix models. The resulting matrix models have not only logarithmic terms but also rational terms in the potential. We also discuss their relation to the Argyres-Douglas type theories.

Annulus amplitude of FZZT branes revisited

We revisit the annulus amplitude of FZZT branes with general matter sectors (r,s) using the recent development of matrix model and minimal Liouville gravity. Following the boundary description of the 1-matrix model and bulk resonance transformation between primary operators we find the consistency of the brane decomposition into (1,1)-branes. We also investigate the corresponding results obtained directly from the minimal Liouville gravity and demonstrate the perfect agreement with the matrix results.

Bulk-boundary correlators in the hermitian matrix model and minimal Liouville gravity

We construct the one matrix model (MM) correlators corresponding to the general bulk-boundary correlation numbers of the minimal Liouville gravity (LG) on the disc. To find agreement between both discrete and continuous approach, we investigate the resonance transformation mixing boundary and bulk couplings. It leads to consider two sectors, depending on whether the matter part of the LG correlator is vanishing due to the fusion rules. In the vanishing case, we determine the explicit transformation of the boundary couplings at the first order in bulk couplings. In the non-vanishing case, no bulk-boundary resonance is involved and only the first order of pure boundary resonances have to be considered. Those are encoded in the matrix polynomials determined in our previous paper. We checked the agreement for the bulk-boundary correlators of MM and LG in several non-trivial cases. In this process, we developed an alternative method to derive the boundary resonance encoding polynomials.

β-deformed matrix model and Nekrasov partition function

We study Penner type matrix models in relation with the Nekrasov partition function of four dimensional \mathcal{N}=2, SU(2) supersymmetric gauge theories with N_F=2,3 and 4. By evaluating the resolvent using the loop equation for general β, we explicitly construct the first half-genus correction to the free energy and demonstrate the result coincides with the corresponding Nekrasov partition function with general Ω-background, including higher instanton contributions after modifying the relation of the Coulomb branch parameter with the filling fraction. Our approach complements the proof using the Selberg integrals directly which is useful to find the contribution in the series of instanton numbers for a given deformation parameter.

Boundary correlation numbers in one matrix model

We introduce one matrix model coupled to multi-flavor vectors. The two-flavor vector model is demonstrated to reproduce the two-point correlation numbers of boundary primary fields of two dimensional (2, 2p+1) minimal Liouville gravity on disk, generalizing the loop operator (resolvent) description. The model can properly describe non-trivial boundary conditions for the matter Cardy state as well as for the Liouville field. From this we propose that the n-flavor vector model will be suited for producing the boundary correlation numbers with n different boundary conditions on disk.

Boundary operators in minimal Liouville gravity and matrix models

We interpret the matrix boundaries of the one matrix model (1MM) recently constructed by two of the authors as an outcome of a relation among FZZT branes. In the double scaling limit, the 1MM is described by the (2,2p+1) minimal Liouville gravity. These matrix operators are shown to create a boundary with matter boundary conditions given by the Cardy states. We also demonstrate a recursion relation among the matrix disc correlator with two different boundaries. This construction is then extended to the two matrix model and the disc correlator with two boundaries is compared with the Liouville boundary two point functions. In addition, the realization within the matrix model of several symmetries among FZZT branes is discussed.

Boundary operators in the one-matrix model

The one matrix model is known to reproduce in the continuum limit the (2,2p+1) minimal Liouville gravity. Recently, two of the authors have shown how to construct arbitrary critical boundary conditions within this matrix model. So far, between two such boundary conditions only one boundary operator was constructed. In this paper, we explain how to construct all the set of boundary operators that can be inserted. As a consistency check, we reproduce the corresponding Liouville boundary 2pt function from the matrix model correlator. In addition, we remark a connection between a matrix model relation and the boundary ground ring operator insertion in the continuum theory.

Exact g-function flow between conformal field theories

Exact equations are proposed to describe g-function flows in integrable boundary quantum field theories which interpolate between different conformal field theories in their ultraviolet and infrared limits, extending previous work where purely massive flows were treated. The approach is illustrated with flows between the tricritical and critical Ising models, but the method is not restricted to these cases and should be of use in unravelling general patterns of integrable boundary flows between pairs of conformal field theories.

Smeared BTZ Black Hole from Space Noncommutativity

We study a novel phenomena of smearing of black hole horizons from the effect of space noncommutativity. We present an explicit example in $AdS_3$ space, using the Chern-Simons formulation of gravity. This produces a smeared BTZ black hole which goes beyond the classical spacetime unexpectedly and there is {\it no} reality problem in our approach with the gauge group $U(1,1) \times U(1,1)$. The horizons are smeared, due to a splitting of the Killing horizon and the apparent horizon, and there is a metric signature change to Euclidean in the smeared region. The inner boundary of the smeared region acts as a trapped surface for timelike particles but the outer as a classical barrier for ingoing particles. The lightlike signals can escape from or reach the smeared region in a {\it finite} time, which indicates that {\it the black hole is not so dark, even classically.} In addition, it is remarked that the Hawking temperature can {\it not} be defined by the regularity in the Euclidean geometry except in the non-rotating case, and the origin can be smeared by a {\it new} (apparent) horizon.

Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz for boundary sine-Gordon model

(R-channel) TBA is elaborated to find the effective central charge dependence on the boundary parameters for the massless boundary sine-Gordon model with the coupling constant $(8π) /β^2 = 1+ λ$ with $λ$ a positive integer. Numerical analysis of the massless boundary TBA demonstrates that at an appropriate boundary parameter range (cusp point) there exists a singularity crossing phenomena and this effect should be included in TBA to have the right behavior of the effective central charge.

Unitarity in space-time noncommutative field theories

In non-commutative field theories conventional wisdom is that the unitarity is non-compatible with the perturbation analysis when time is involved in the non-commutative coordinates. However, as suggested by Bahns et.al. recently, the root of the problem lies in the improper definition of the time-ordered product. In this article, functional formalism of S-matrix is explicitly constructed for the non-commutative $ϕ^p$ scalar field theory using the field equation in the Heisenberg picture and proper definition of time-ordering. This S-matrix is manifestly unitary. Using the free spectral (Wightmann) function as the free field propagator, we demonstrate the perturbation obeys the unitarity, and present the exact two particle scattering amplitude for 1+1 dimensional non-commutative nonlinear Schrödinger model.

Exact One-Point Function of N=1 super-Liouville Theory with Boundary

In this paper, exact one-point functions of N=1 super-Liouville field theory in two-dimensional space-time with appropriate boundary conditions are presented. Exact results are derived both for the theory defined on a pseudosphere with discrete (NS) boundary conditions and for the theory with explicit boundary actions which preserves super conformal symmetries. We provide various consistency checks. We also show that these one-point functions can be related to a generalized Cardy conditions along with corresponding modular $S$-matrices. Using this result, we conjecture the dependence of the boundary two-point functions of the (NS) boundary operators on the boundary parameter.

A Self-Dual Bogomol'nyi Formulation of the Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation

We obtain a self-dual formulation of the conventional nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) in the 1+1 dimension by studying the dimensional reduction of the self-dual Chern-Simons nonlinear Schrödinger model (NLSM) in the 2+1 dimension. It is found that this self-dual formulation allows us to find not only the well-known soliton solutions from the Bogomol'nyi bound and the Galilean boost, but also other soliton solutions in the presence of the background sources.

Self-dual Chern-Simons Solitons in the Planar Ferromagnet

We consider a uniaxial planar ferromagnet coupled minimally to an Abelian Chern-Simons gauge field and study self-dual solitons which saturate the Bogomol'nyi bound. We find a rich structure of rotationally symmetric static soliton solutions for various uniform background charge densities. For a given ferromagnet material, the properties of these solitons are controlled only by the external magnetic field and the background charge.

Effect of rotation symmetry to abelian Chern-Simons field theory and anyon equation on a sphere

We analyze the Chern-Simons field theory coupled to non-relativistic matter field on a sphere using canonical transformation on the fields with special attention to the role of the rotation symmetry: SO(3) invariance restricts the Hilbert space to the one with a definite number of charges and dictates Dirac quantization condition to the Chern-Simons coefficient, whereas SO(2) invariance does not. The corresponding Schrödinger equation for many anyons (and for multispecies) on the sphere are presented with appropriate boundary condition. In the presence of an external magnetic monopole source, the ground state solutions of anyons are compared with monopole harmonics. The role of the translation and modular symmetry on a torus is also expounded.
