Towards a Combinatorial Model for $q$-weight Multiplicities of Simple Lie Algebras (Extended Abstract)

Kostka-Foulkes polynomials are Lusztig's $q$-analogues of weight multiplicities for irreducible representations of semisimple Lie algebras. It has long been known that these polynomials have non-negative coefficients. A statistic on semistandard Young tableaux with partition content, called \textit{charge}, was used to give a combinatorial formula exhibiting this fact in type $A$. Defining a charge statistic beyond type $A$ has been a long-standing problem. Here, we take a completely new approach based on the definition of Kostka-Foulkes polynomials as an alternating sum over Kostant partitions, which can be thought of as formal sums of positive roots. We use a sign-reversing involution to obtain a positive expansion, in which the relevant statistic is simply the number of parts in the Kostant partitions. The hope is that the simplicity of this new crystal-like model will naturally extend to other classical types.

Duality and bicrystals on infinite binary matrices

The set of finite binary matrices of a given size is known to carry a finite type A bicrystal structure. We first review this classical construction, explain how it yields a short proof of the equality between Kostka polynomials and one-dimensional sums together with a natural generalisation of the 2M -- X Pitman transform. Next, we show that, once the relevant formalism on families of infinite binary matrices is introduced, this is a particular case of a much more general phenomenon. Each such family of matrices is proved to be endowed with Kac-Moody bicrystal and tricrystal structures defined from the classical root systems. Moreover, we give an explicit decomposition of these multicrystals, reminiscent of the decomposition of characters yielding the Cauchy identities.

Springer basic sets and modular Springer correspondence for classical types

We define the notion of basic set data for finite groups (building on the notion of basic set, but including an order on the irreducible characters as part of the structure), and we prove that the Springer correspondence provides basic set data for Weyl groups. Then we use this to determine explicitly the modular Springer correspondence for classical types (defined over a base field of odd characteristic $p$, and with coefficients in a field of odd characteristic $\ell\neq p$): the modular case is obtained as a restriction of the ordinary case to a basic set. In order to do so, we compare the order on bipartitions introduced by Dipper and James with the order induced by the Springer correspondence. We also provide a quicker proof, by sorting characters according to the dimension of the corresponding Springer fiber, an invariant which is directly computable from symbols.

Alcove random walks, k-Schur functions and the minimal boundary of the k-bounded partition poset

We use k-Schur functions to get the minimal boundary of the k-bounded partition poset. This permits to describe the central random walks on affine Grassmannian elements of type A and yields a polynomial expression for their drift. We also recover Rietsch's parametriza-tion of totally nonnegative unitriangular Toeplitz matrices without using quantum cohomology of flag varieties. All the homeomorphisms we define can moreover be made explicit by using the combinatorics of k-Schur functions and elementary computations based on Perron-Frobenius theorem.

Additive combinatorics methods in associative algebras

We adapt methods coming from additive combinatorics in groups to the study of linear span in associative unital algebras. In particular, we establish for these algebras analogues of Diderrich-Kneser's and Hamidoune's theorems on sumsets and Tao's theorem on sets of small doubling. In passing we classify the finite-dimensional algebras over infinite fields with finitely many subalgebras. These algebras play a crucial role in our linear version of Diderrich-Kneser's theorem. We also explain how the original theorems for groups we linearize can be easily deduced from our results applied to group algebras. Finally, we give lower bounds for the Minkowski product of two subsets in finite monoids by using their associated monoid algebras.

Harmonic functions on multiplicative graphs and inverse Pitman transform on infinite random paths

We introduce and characterize central probability distributions on Littelmann paths. Next we establish a law of large numbers and a central limit theorem for the generalized Pitmann transform. We then study harmonic functions on multiplicative graphs defined from the tensor powers of finite-dimensional Lie algebras representations. Finally, we show there exists an inverse of the generalized Pitman transform defined almost surely on the set of infinite paths remaining in the Weyl chamber and explain how it can be computed.

Conditioned random walks from Kac-Moody root systems

Random paths are time continuous interpolations of random walks. By using Littelmann path model, we associate to each irreducible highest weight module of a Kac Moody algebra g a random path W. Under suitable hypotheses, we make explicit the probability of the event E: W never exits the Weyl chamber of g. We then give the law of the random walk defined by W conditioned by the event E and proves this law can be recovered by applying to W the generalized Pitmann transform introduced by Biane, Bougerol and O'Connell. This generalizes the main results of [10] and [16] to Kac Moody root systems and arbitrary highest weight modules. Moreover, we use here a completely new approach by exploiting the symmetry of our construction under the action of the Weyl group of g rather than renewal theory and Doob's theorem on Martin kernels.

Isomorphic induced modules and Dynkin diagram automorphisms of semisimple Lie algebras

Consider a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and $\overline{\mathfrak{g}}% \subset \mathfrak{g}$ a Levi subalgebra. Two irreducible $\overline{% \mathfrak{g}}$-modules yield isomorphic inductions to $\mathfrak{g}$ when their highest weights coincide up to conjugation by an element of the Weyl group $W$ of $\mathfrak{g}$ which is also a Dynkin diagram automorphism of $% \overline{\mathfrak{g}}$. In this paper we study the converse problem: given two irreducible $\overline{\mathfrak{g}}$-modules of highest weight $μ$ and $ν$ whose inductions to $\mathfrak{g}$ are isomorphic, can we conclude that $μ$ and $ν$ are conjugate under the action of an element of $W$ which is also a Dynkin diagram automorphism of $\overline{\mathfrak{g}% }$ ? We conjecture this is true in general. We prove this conjecture in type $A$ and, for the other root systems, in various situations providing $μ$ and $ν$ satisfy additional hypotheses. Our result can be interpreted as an analogue for branching coefficient of the main result of \cite{Raj} on tensor product multiplicities.

Plünnecke and Kneser type theorems for dimension estimates

Given a division ring K containing the field k in its center and A,B two finite subsets of K\{0}, we give some analogues of Plünnecke and Kneser theorems for the dimension of the k-linear span of the Minkowski product AB in terms of the dimensions of the k-linear spans of A and B. These Plünnecke type estimates are then generalized to the case of associative algebras. We also obtain an analogue in the context of division rings of a theorem by Tao classifying the sets of small doubling in a group.

A combinatorial decomposition of higher level Fock spaces

We give a simple characterization of the highest weight vertices in the crystal graph of the level l Fock spaces. This characterization is based on the notion of totally periodic symbols viewed as affine analogues of reverse lattice words classically used in the decomposition of tensor products of fundamental $\mathfrak{sl}_{n}$-modules. This yields a combinatorial decomposition of the Fock spaces in their irreducible components and the branching law for the restriction of the irreducible highest weight $\mathfrak{sl}_{\infty}$-modules to $\hat{\mathfrak{sl}_{e}}$.

Conditioned one-way simple random walk and representation theory

We call one-way simple random walk a random walk in the quadrant Z_+^n whose increments belong to the canonical base. In relation with representation theory of Lie algebras and superalgebras, we describe the law of such a random walk conditioned to stay in a closed octant, a semi-open octant or other types of semi-groups. The combinatorial representation theory of these algebras allows us to describe a generalized Pitman transformation which realizes the conditioning on the set of paths of the walk. We pursue here in a direction initiated by O'Connell and his coauthors [13,14,2], and also developed in [12]. Our work relies on crystal bases theory and insertion schemes on tableaux described by Kashiwara and his coauthors in [1] and, very recently, in [5].

Factorization of the canonical bases for higher level Fock spaces

The level l Fock space admits canonical bases G_e and G_\infty. They correspond to U_{v}(hat{sl}_{e}) and U_{v}(sl_{\infty})-module structures. We establish that the transition matrices relating these two bases are unitriangular with coefficients in N[v]. Restriction to the highest weight modules generated by the empty l-partition then gives a natural quantization of a theorem by Geck and Rouquier on the factorization of decomposition matrices which are associated to Ariki-Koike algebras.

Random walks in Weyl chambers and crystals

We use Kashiwara crystal basis theory to associate a random walk W to each irreducible representation V of a simple Lie algebra. This is achieved by endowing the crystal attached to V with a (possibly non uniform) probability distribution compatible with its weight graduation. We then prove that the generalized Pitmann transform defined by Biane, Bougerol and O'Connell for similar random walks with uniform distributions yields yet a Markov chain. When the representation is minuscule, and the associated random walk has a drift in the Weyl chamber, we establish that this Markov chain has the same law as W conditionned to never exit the cone of dominant weights. At the heart of our proof is a quotient version of a renewal theorem that we state in the context of general random walks in a lattice.

Crystal isomorphisms for irreducible highest weight U_{v}{\hat{sl}}_{e})-modules of higher level

We study the crystal graphs of irreducible $U_{v}(\hat{sl}}_{e})$-modules of higher level l. Generalizing works of the first author, we obtain a simple description of the bijections between the classes of multipartitions which naturally label these graphs: the Uglov multipartitions. This is achieved by expliciting an embedding of the $U_{v}(\hat{sl}}_{e})$-crystals of level l into $U_{v}(\hat{sl}_{\infty})$-crystals associated to highest weight modules.

Branching rules, Kostka-Foulkes polynomials and $q$-multiplicities in tensor product for the root systems $B\_{n},C\_{n}$ and $D\_{n}$

The Kostka-Foulkes polynomials $K$ related to a root system $ϕ$ can be defined as alternated sums running over the Weyl group associated to $ϕ.$ By restricting these sums over the elements of the symmetric group when $% ϕ$ is of type $B,C$ or $D$, we obtain again a class $\widetilde{K}$ of Kostka-Foulkes polynomials. When $ϕ$ is of type $C$ or $D$ there exists a duality beetween these polynomials and some natural $q$-multiplicities $U$ in tensor product \cite{lec}. In this paper we first establish identities for the $\widetilde{K}$ which implies in particular that they can be decomposed as sums of Kostka-Foulkes polynomials related to the root system of type $A$ with nonnegative integer coefficients. Moreover these coefficients are branching rule coefficients. This allows us to clarify the connection beetween the $q$-multiplicities $U$ and the polynomials defined by Shimozono and Zabrocki in \cite{SZ}. Finally we establish that the $q$-multiplicities $U$ defined for the tensor powers of the vector representation coincide up to a power of $q$ with the one dimension sum $X$ introduced in \cite{Ok} This shows that in this case the one dimension sums $% X$ are affine Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.
