On the BBM-phenomenon in fractional Poincaré-Sobolev inequalities with weights

In this paper we unify and improve some of the results of Bourgain, Brezis and Mironescu and the weighted Poincaré-Sobolev estimate by Fabes, Kenig and Serapioni. More precisely, we get weighted counterparts of the Poincaré-Sobolev type inequality and also of the Hardy type inequality in the fractional case under some mild natural restrictions. A main feature of the results we obtain is the fact that we keep track of the behaviour of the constants involved when the fractional parameter approaches to $1$. Our main method is based on techniques coming from harmonic analysis related to the self-improving property of generalized Poincaré inequalities.

Self-improving Poincaré-Sobolev type functionals in product spaces

In this paper we give a geometric condition which ensures that $(q,p)$-Poincaré-Sobolev inequalities are implied from generalized $(1,1)$-Poincaré inequalities related to $L^1$ norms in the context of product spaces. The concept of eccentricity plays a central role in the paper. We provide several $(1,1)$-Poincaré type inequalities adapted to different geometries and then show that our selfimproving method can be applied to obtain special interesting Poincaré-Sobolev estimates. Among other results, we prove that for each rectangle $R$ of the form $R=I_1\times I_2 \subset \mathbb{R}^{n}$ where $I_1\subset \mathbb{R}^{n_1}$ and $I_2\subset \mathbb{R}^{n_2}$ are cubes with sides parallel to the coordinate axes, we have that % \begin{equation*} \left( \frac{1}{w(R)}\int_{ R } |f -f_{R}|^{p_{δ,w}^*} \,wdx\right)^{\frac{1}{p_{δ,w}^*}} \leq c\,(1-δ)^{\frac1p}\,[w]_{A_{1,\mathfrak{R}}}^{\frac1p}\, \Big(a_1(R)+a_2(R)\Big), \end{equation*} % where $δ\in (0,1)$, $w \in A_{1,\mathfrak{R}}$, $\frac{1}{p} -\frac{1}{ p_{δ,w}^* }= \fracδ{n} \, \frac{1}{1+\log [w]_{A_{1,\mathfrak{R}}}}$ and $a_i(R)$ are bilinear analog of the fractional Sobolev seminorms $[u]_{W^{δ,p}(Q)}$ (See Theorem 2.18). This is a biparameter weighted version of the celebrated fractional Poincaré-Sobolev estimates with the gain $(1-δ)^{\frac1p}$ due to Bourgain-Brezis-Minorescu.

Equilibrium Graphs

In this paper we present an extension of Peirce's existential graphs to provide a diagrammatic representation of expressions in Quantified Equilibrium Logic (QEL). Using this formalisation, logical connectives are replaced by encircled regions (circles and squares) and quantified variables are represented as "identity" lines. Although the expressive power is equivalent to that of QEL, the new representation can be useful for illustrative or educational purposes.

Reverse Hölder Property for strong weights and general measures

We present dimension-free reverse Hölder inequalities for strong $A^*_p$ weights, $1\le p < \infty$. We also provide a proof for the full range of local integrability of $A_1^*$ weights. The common ingredient is a multidimensional version of Riesz's "rising sun" lemma. Our results are valid for any nonnegative Radon measure with no atoms. For $p=\infty$, we also provide a reverse Hölder inequality for certain product measures. As a corollary we derive mixed $A_p^*-A_\infty^*$ weighted estimates.

The $L(\log L)^ε$ endpoint estimate for maximal singular integral operators

We prove in this paper the following estimate for the maximal operator $T^*$ associated to the singular integral operator $T$: $ \|T^*f\|_{L^{1,\infty}(w)} \lesssim \frac{1}ε \int_{\mathbb{R}^n} |f(x)| M_{L(\log L)^ε} (w)(x)dx$, for $w\geq 0, 0<ε\leq 1.$ This follows from the sharp $L^p$ estimate $ \|T^*f \|_{ L^{p}(w) } \lesssim p' (\frac{1}δ)^{1/p'} \|f \|_{L^{p}(M_{ L(\log L)^{p-1+δ}} (w))}$, for $1<p<\infty, w\geq 0, 0<δ\leq 1. $ As as a consequence we deduce that $ \|T^*f\|_{L^{1,\infty}(w)} \lesssim [w]_{A_{1}} \log(e+ [w]_{A_{\infty}}) \int_{\mathbb{R}^n} |f| w dx, $ extending the endpoint results obtained in [LOP] and [HP] to maximal singular integrals. Another consequence is a quantitative two weight bump estimate.

A new quantitative two weight theorem for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator

A quantitative two weight theorem for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator is proved improving the known ones. As a consequence a new proof of the main results in [HP] and in [HPR12] is obtained which avoids the use of the sharp quantitative reverse Holder inequality for $A_{\infty}$ proved in those papers. Our results are valid within the context of spaces of homogeneous type without imposing the non-empty annuli condition.

Exponential decay estimates for Singular Integral operators

The following subexponential estimate for commutators is proved |[|\{x\in Q: |[b,T]f(x)|>tM^2f(x)\}|\leq c\,e^{-\sqrt{α\, t\|b\|_{BMO}}}\, |Q|, \qquad t>0.\] where $c$ and $α$ are absolute constants, $T$ is a Calderón--Zygmund operator, $M$ is the Hardy Littlewood maximal function and $f$ is any function supported on the cube $Q$. It is also obtained \[|\{x\in Q: |f(x)-m_f(Q)|>tM_{1/4;Q}^#(f)(x) \}|\le c\, e^{-α\,t}|Q|,\qquad t>0,\] where $m_f(Q)$ is the median value of $f$ on the cube $Q$ and $M_{1/4;Q}^#$ is Strömberg's local sharp maximal function. As a consequence it is derived Karagulyan's estimate \[|\{x\in Q: |Tf(x)|> tMf(x)\}|\le c\, e^{-c\, t}\,|Q|\qquad t>0,\] improving Buckley's theorem. A completely different approach is used based on a combination of "Lerner's formula" with some special weighted estimates of Coifman-Fefferman obtained via Rubio de Francia's algorithm. The method is flexible enough to derive similar estimates for other operators such as multilinear Calderón--Zygmund operators, dyadic and continuous square functions and vector valued extensions of both maximal functions and Calderón--Zygmund operators. On each case, $M$ will be replaced by a suitable maximal operator.

Optimal exponents in weighted estimates without examples

We present a general approach for proving the optimality of the exponents on weighted estimates. We show that if an operator $T$ satisfies a bound like $$ \|T\|_{L^{p}(w)}\le c\, [w]^β_{A_p} \qquad w \in A_{p}, $$ then the optimal lower bound for $β$ is closely related to the asymptotic behaviour of the unweighted $L^p$ norm $\|T\|_{L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)}$ as $p$ goes to 1 and $+\infty$, which is related to Yano's classical extrapolation theorem. By combining these results with the known weighted inequalities, we derive the sharpness of the exponents, without building any specific example, for a wide class of operators including maximal-type, Calderón--Zygmund and fractional operators. In particular, we obtain a lower bound for the best possible exponent for Bochner-Riesz multipliers. We also present a new result concerning a continuum family of maximal operators on the scale of logarithmic Orlicz functions. Further, our method allows to consider in a unified way maximal operators defined over very general Muckenhoupt bases.

Improving bounds for singular operators via Sharp Reverse Hölder Inequality for $A_{\infty}$

In this expository article we collect and discuss some recent results on different consequences of a Sharp Reverse Hölder Inequality for $A_{\infty}$ weights. For two given operators $T$ and $S$, we study $L^p(w)$ bounds of Coifman-Fefferman type. $ \|Tf\|_{L^p(w)}\le c_{n,w,p} \|Sf\|_{L^p(w)}, $ that can be understood as a way to control $T$ by $S$. We will focus on a \emph{quantitative} analysis of the constants involved and show that we can improve classical results regarding the dependence on the weight $w$ in terms of Wilson's $A_{\infty}$ constant $ [w]_{A_{\infty}}:=\sup_Q\frac{1}{w(Q)}\int_Q M(wχ_Q).$ We will also exhibit recent improvements on the problem of finding sharp constants for weighted norm inequalities involving several singular operators. We obtain mixed $A_{1}$--$A_{\infty}$ estimates for the commutator $[b,T]$ and for its higher order analogue $T^k_{b}$. A common ingredient in the proofs presented here is a recent improvement of the Reverse Hölder Inequality for $A_{\infty}$ weights involving Wilson's constant.

Non-probabilistic proof of the A_2 theorem, and sharp weighted bounds for the q-variation of singular integrals

Any Calderon-Zygmund operator T is pointwise dominated by a convergent sum of positive dyadic operators. We give an elementary self-contained proof of this fact, which is simpler than the probabilistic arguments used for all previous results in this direction. Our argument also applies to the q-variation of certain Calderon-Zygmund operators, a stronger nonlinearity than the maximal truncations. As an application, we obtain new sharp weighted inequalities.

Sharp Reverse Hölder property for A_\infty weights on spaces of homogeneous type

In this article we present a new proof of a sharp Reverse Hölder Inequality for $A_\infty$ weights that is valid in the context of spaces of homogeneous type. Then we derive two applications: a precise open property of Muckenhoupt classes and, as a consequence of this last result, we obtain a simple proof of a sharp weighted bound for the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function involving $A_\infty$ constants: |M|_{L^p(w)} \leq c (\frac{1}{p-1} [w]_{A_p}[σ]_{A_\infty})^{1/p}, where $1<p<\infty$, $σ=w^{\frac{1}{1-p}}$ and $c$ depends only on the doubling constant of the measure $μ$ and the geometric constant $κ$ of the quasimetric.

Sharp weighted bounds for multilinear maximal functions and Calderón-Zygmund operators

In this paper we prove some sharp weighted norm inequalities for the multi(sub)linear maximal function $\Mm$ introduced in \cite{LOPTT} and for multilinear Calderón-Zygmund operators. In particular we obtain a sharp mixed "$A_p-A_{\infty}$" bound for $\Mm$, some partial results related to a Buckley-type estimate for $\Mm$, and a sufficient condition for the boundedness of $\Mm$ between weighted $L^p$ spaces with different weights taking into account the precise bounds. Next we get a bound for multilinear Calderón-Zygmund operators in terms of dyadic positive multilinear operators in the spirit of the recent work. Then we obtain a multilinear version of the "$A_2$ conjecture". Several open problems are posed.

preprint2011arXiv

Sharp weighted bounds involving A_\infty

We improve on several weighted inequalities of recent interest by replacing a part of the A_p bounds by weaker A_\infty estimates involving Wilson's A_\infty constant \[ [w]_{A_\infty}':=\sup_Q\frac{1}{w(Q)}\int_Q M(wχ_Q). \] In particular, we show the following improvement of the first author's A_2 theorem for Calderón-Zygmund operators T: \[\|T\|_{B(L^2(w))}\leq c_T [w]_{A_2}^{1/2}([w]_{A_\infty}'+[w^{-1}]_{A_\infty}')^{1/2}. \] Corresponding A_p type results are obtained from a new extrapolation theorem with appropriate mixed A_p-A_\infty bounds. This uses new two-weight estimates for the maximal function, which improve on Buckley's classical bound. We also derive mixed A_1-A_\infty type results of Lerner, Ombrosi and the second author (Math. Res. Lett. 2009) of the form: \[\|T\|_{B(L^p(w))} \leq c pp'[w]_{A_1}^{1/p}([w]_{A_{\infty}}')^{1/p'}, 1<p<\infty, \] \[\|Tf\|_{L^{1,\infty}(w)} \leq c[w]_{A_1} \log(e+[w]'_{A_{\infty}}) \|f\|_{L^1(w)}. \] An estimate dual to the last one is also found, as well as new bounds for commutators of singular integrals.

Sharp weighted estimates for dyadic shifts and the $A_2$ conjecture

We give a self-contained proof of the $A_2$ conjecture, which claims that the norm of any Calderon-Zygmund operator is bounded by the first degree of the $A_2$ norm of the weight. The original proof of this result by the first author relied on a subtle and rather difficult reduction to a testing condition by the last three authors. Here we replace this reduction by a new weighted norm bound for dyadic shifts - linear in the $A_2$ norm of the weight and quadratic in the complexity of the shift -, which is based on a new quantitative two-weight inequality for the shifts. These sharp one- and two-weight bounds for dyadic shifts are the main new results of this paper. They are obtained by rethinking the corresponding previous results of Lacey-Petermichl-Reguera and Nazarov-Treil-Volberg. To complete the proof of the $A_2$ conjecture, we also provide a simple variant of the representation, already in the original proof, of an arbitrary Calderon-Zygmund operator as an average of random dyadic shifts and random dyadic paraproducts. This method of the representation amounts to the refinement of the techniques from nonhomogeneous Harmonic Analysis.
