Bridging the Last Mile of Circuit Design: PostEDA-Bench, a Hierarchical Benchmark for PPA Convergence and DRC Fixing

LLM-based agents are increasingly applied to the "last mile" of Electronic Design Automation (EDA): repairing residual sign-off Design Rule Check (DRC) violations and converging Power-Performance-Area (PPA) targets after tool runs. Existing EDA-LLM benchmarks, however, omit DRC fixing entirely and rely on flat hierarchies tied to a single toolchain. We introduce PostEDA-Bench, a hierarchical benchmark with 145 tasks across DRC-Essential, DRC-Reasoning, PPA-Mono, and PPA-Multi, supported by EDA toolchains with machine-checkable evaluation. Across eight commercial and open-source LLMs under multiple agent scaffolds, we find that agents handle synthetic DRC-Essential and single-objective PPA-Mono reasonably well but degrade sharply on the more practical DRC-Reasoning, where the best success rate is 36.66%, and PPA-Multi, where the best success rate is 20.00%; vision augmentation consistently enhances DRC-Bench; and trade-off reasoning, rather than knob knowledge, is the dominant PPA-Multi bottleneck.

CUDABeaver: Benchmarking LLM-Based Automated CUDA Debugging

Debugging CUDA programs has long been challenging because failures often arise from subtle interactions among hardware behavior, compiler decisions, memory hierarchy, and asynchronous execution. More importantly, with the rapid expansion of GPU usage across scientific computing, machine learning, graphics, and systems workloads, CUDA debugging has become more challenging than ever. Current evaluations of LLM-based CUDA programming largely miss this setting: a model can pass correctness tests with repair by degeneration, simplifying the CUDA code into a safer but slower program that abandons the original optimization structure. We introduce CUDABEAVER, a benchmark for CUDA debugging from real failing workspaces produced during LLM-based CUDA generation. Each task provides the broken candidate, native build/test commands, raw error evidence, and a single editable file. CUDABEAVER evaluates whether a fixer truly repairs the failing CUDA code or merely finds a slower test-passing replacement, reporting results by failure category, debugging trajectory, stagnation mode, and performance preservation. We further propose pass@k(M,C,A), a protocol-conditional CUDA debugging metric by making the fixer M, corpus C, and protocol axes Aexplicit. Using this metric across 213 tasks and seven frontier LLMs, we show that protocol-aware evaluation gives a more faithful view of CUDA debugging ability: when performance-loss tolerance is high, fixers appear much stronger, but even a minor stricter performance requirement can sharply reduce measured success, shifting scores by up to 40 percentage points.

CUDAHercules: Benchmarking Hardware-Aware Expert-level CUDA Optimization for LLMs

Large language models show promise for automated CUDA programming, however even the strongest coding models (e.g., Claude-Opus-4.6) may still fall short of expert-level, architecture-aware optimization. We introduce CUDAHercules, a benchmark that evaluates generated CUDA against end-to-end human-expert SOTA systems. It spans single kernels, module-level operators, full applications, and unsolved challenge tasks across Ampere, Hopper, and Blackwell GPUs, with end-to-end tasks gated by domain-specific semantic validators. Evaluating models such as Claude-Opus-4.6 and GPT-5.4 shows a large gap between runnable CUDA and expert CUDA engineering: models often compile and pass tests, but rarely recover the optimization strategies needed to match expert performance. Application semantics further reduce success, and iterative or tool-augmented feedback can improve correctness while drifting toward slow fallback implementations. These results show that automated CUDA programming remains far from fully solved and requires stronger hardware reasoning, better tool use, and training objectives that connect code understanding to hardware architecture-grounded intelligence.

Stateful Reasoning via Insight Replay

Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning has become a foundation for eliciting multi-step reasoning in large language models, but recent studies show that its benefits do not scale monotonically with chain length: while longer CoT generally enables a model to tackle harder problems, on a given problem, accuracy typically increases with CoT length up to a point, after which it declines. We identify a major cause of this phenomenon: as the CoT grows, the model's attention to critical insights produced earlier in the trace gradually weakens, making those insights progressively less accessible when they are most needed. Therefore, we propose \textbf{InsightReplay}, a stateful reasoning approach in which the model periodically extracts critical insights from its reasoning trace and replays them near the active generation frontier, keeping them accessible as the reasoning scales. Extensive experiments on a $\mathbf{2}\!\times\!\mathbf{3}\!\times\!\mathbf{4}$ benchmark grid, covering model scales $\{\text{8B}, \text{30B}\}$, model families $\{\text{Qwen3.5}, \text{DeepSeek-R1-Distill-Qwen}, \text{Gemma-4}\}$, and reasoning benchmarks $\{\text{AIME}, \text{HMMT}, \text{GPQA Diamond}, \text{LiveCodeBench v5}\}$, show that 3-round InsightReplay yields accuracy gains across \textbf{all 24 settings}, with an averaged improvement of $\mathbf{+1.65}$ points over standard CoT, and a largest single-setting gain of $\mathbf{+9.2}$ points on R1-Distill-32B's LiveCodeBench v5 subset. Our results suggest that the effectiveness of test-time scaling depends not only on how much a model reasons, but also on whether critical intermediate insights remain accessible throughout long reasoning trajectories.

Advanced Large Language Model (LLM)-Driven Verilog Development: Enhancing Power, Performance, and Area Optimization in Code Synthesis

The increasing use of Advanced Language Models (ALMs) in diverse sectors, particularly due to their impressive capability to generate top-tier content following linguistic instructions, forms the core of this investigation. This study probes into ALMs' deployment in electronic hardware design, with a specific emphasis on the synthesis and enhancement of Verilog programming. We introduce an innovative framework, crafted to assess and amplify ALMs' productivity in this niche. The methodology commences with the initial crafting of Verilog programming via ALMs, succeeded by a distinct dual-stage refinement protocol. The premier stage prioritizes augmenting the code's operational and linguistic precision, while the latter stage is dedicated to aligning the code with Power-Performance-Area (PPA) benchmarks, a pivotal component in proficient hardware design. This bifurcated strategy, merging error remediation with PPA enhancement, has yielded substantial upgrades in the caliber of ALM-created Verilog programming. Our framework achieves an 81.37% rate in linguistic accuracy and 62.0% in operational efficacy in programming synthesis, surpassing current leading-edge techniques, such as 73% in linguistic accuracy and 46% in operational efficacy. These findings illuminate ALMs' aptitude in tackling complex technical domains and signal a positive shift in the mechanization of hardware design operations.

FlashVideo: A Framework for Swift Inference in Text-to-Video Generation

In the evolving field of machine learning, video generation has witnessed significant advancements with autoregressive-based transformer models and diffusion models, known for synthesizing dynamic and realistic scenes. However, these models often face challenges with prolonged inference times, even for generating short video clips such as GIFs. This paper introduces FlashVideo, a novel framework tailored for swift Text-to-Video generation. FlashVideo represents the first successful adaptation of the RetNet architecture for video generation, bringing a unique approach to the field. Leveraging the RetNet-based architecture, FlashVideo reduces the time complexity of inference from $\mathcal{O}(L^2)$ to $\mathcal{O}(L)$ for a sequence of length $L$, significantly accelerating inference speed. Additionally, we adopt a redundant-free frame interpolation method, enhancing the efficiency of frame interpolation. Our comprehensive experiments demonstrate that FlashVideo achieves a $\times9.17$ efficiency improvement over a traditional autoregressive-based transformer model, and its inference speed is of the same order of magnitude as that of BERT-based transformer models.

Sparse Progressive Distillation: Resolving Overfitting under Pretrain-and-Finetune Paradigm

Conventional wisdom in pruning Transformer-based language models is that pruning reduces the model expressiveness and thus is more likely to underfit rather than overfit. However, under the trending pretrain-and-finetune paradigm, we postulate a counter-traditional hypothesis, that is: pruning increases the risk of overfitting when performed at the fine-tuning phase. In this paper, we aim to address the overfitting problem and improve pruning performance via progressive knowledge distillation with error-bound properties. We show for the first time that reducing the risk of overfitting can help the effectiveness of pruning under the pretrain-and-finetune paradigm. Ablation studies and experiments on the GLUE benchmark show that our method outperforms the leading competitors across different tasks.

A Length Adaptive Algorithm-Hardware Co-design of Transformer on FPGA Through Sparse Attention and Dynamic Pipelining

Transformers are considered one of the most important deep learning models since 2018, in part because it establishes state-of-the-art (SOTA) records and could potentially replace existing Deep Neural Networks (DNNs). Despite the remarkable triumphs, the prolonged turnaround time of Transformer models is a widely recognized roadblock. The variety of sequence lengths imposes additional computing overhead where inputs need to be zero-padded to the maximum sentence length in the batch to accommodate the parallel computing platforms. This paper targets the field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and proposes a coherent sequence length adaptive algorithm-hardware co-design for Transformer acceleration. Particularly, we develop a hardware-friendly sparse attention operator and a length-aware hardware resource scheduling algorithm. The proposed sparse attention operator brings the complexity of attention-based models down to linear complexity and alleviates the off-chip memory traffic. The proposed length-aware resource hardware scheduling algorithm dynamically allocates the hardware resources to fill up the pipeline slots and eliminates bubbles for NLP tasks. Experiments show that our design has very small accuracy loss and has 80.2 $\times$ and 2.6 $\times$ speedup compared to CPU and GPU implementation, and 4 $\times$ higher energy efficiency than state-of-the-art GPU accelerator optimized via CUBLAS GEMM.

A Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning Approach For Safe and Efficient Behavior Planning Of Connected Autonomous Vehicles

The recent advancements in wireless technology enable connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs) to gather information about their environment by vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication. In this work, we design an information-sharing-based multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) framework for CAVs, to take advantage of the extra information when making decisions to improve traffic efficiency and safety. The safe actor-critic algorithm we propose has two new techniques: the truncated Q-function and safe action mapping. The truncated Q-function utilizes the shared information from neighboring CAVs such that the joint state and action spaces of the Q-function do not grow in our algorithm for a large-scale CAV system. We prove the bound of the approximation error between the truncated-Q and global Q-functions. The safe action mapping provides a provable safety guarantee for both the training and execution based on control barrier functions. Using the CARLA simulator for experiments, we show that our approach can improve the CAV system's efficiency in terms of average velocity and comfort under different CAV ratios and different traffic densities. We also show that our approach avoids the execution of unsafe actions and always maintains a safe distance from other vehicles. We construct an obstacle-at-corner scenario to show that the shared vision can help CAVs to observe obstacles earlier and take action to avoid traffic jams.

A Secure and Efficient Federated Learning Framework for NLP

In this work, we consider the problem of designing secure and efficient federated learning (FL) frameworks. Existing solutions either involve a trusted aggregator or require heavyweight cryptographic primitives, which degrades performance significantly. Moreover, many existing secure FL designs work only under the restrictive assumption that none of the clients can be dropped out from the training protocol. To tackle these problems, we propose SEFL, a secure and efficient FL framework that (1) eliminates the need for the trusted entities; (2) achieves similar and even better model accuracy compared with existing FL designs; (3) is resilient to client dropouts. Through extensive experimental studies on natural language processing (NLP) tasks, we demonstrate that the SEFL achieves comparable accuracy compared to existing FL solutions, and the proposed pruning technique can improve runtime performance up to 13.7x.

An Automatic and Efficient BERT Pruning for Edge AI Systems

With the yearning for deep learning democratization, there are increasing demands to implement Transformer-based natural language processing (NLP) models on resource-constrained devices for low-latency and high accuracy. Existing BERT pruning methods require domain experts to heuristically handcraft hyperparameters to strike a balance among model size, latency, and accuracy. In this work, we propose AE-BERT, an automatic and efficient BERT pruning framework with efficient evaluation to select a "good" sub-network candidate (with high accuracy) given the overall pruning ratio constraints. Our proposed method requires no human experts experience and achieves a better accuracy performance on many NLP tasks. Our experimental results on General Language Understanding Evaluation (GLUE) benchmark show that AE-BERT outperforms the state-of-the-art (SOTA) hand-crafted pruning methods on BERT$_{\mathrm{BASE}}$. On QNLI and RTE, we obtain 75\% and 42.8\% more overall pruning ratio while achieving higher accuracy. On MRPC, we obtain a 4.6 higher score than the SOTA at the same overall pruning ratio of 0.5. On STS-B, we can achieve a 40\% higher pruning ratio with a very small loss in Spearman correlation compared to SOTA hand-crafted pruning methods. Experimental results also show that after model compression, the inference time of a single BERT$_{\mathrm{BASE}}$ encoder on Xilinx Alveo U200 FPGA board has a 1.83$\times$ speedup compared to Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 5218 (2.30GHz) CPU, which shows the reasonableness of deploying the proposed method generated subnets of BERT$_{\mathrm{BASE}}$ model on computation restricted devices.

Enabling Fast Deep Learning on Tiny Energy-Harvesting IoT Devices

Energy harvesting (EH) IoT devices that operate intermittently without batteries, coupled with advances in deep neural networks (DNNs), have opened up new opportunities for enabling sustainable smart applications. Nevertheless, implementing those computation and memory-intensive intelligent algorithms on EH devices is extremely difficult due to the challenges of limited resources and intermittent power supply that causes frequent failures. To address those challenges, this paper proposes a methodology that enables fast deep learning with low-energy accelerators for tiny energy harvesting devices. We first propose $RAD$, a resource-aware structured DNN training framework, which employs block circulant matrix and structured pruning to achieve high compression for leveraging the advantage of various vector operation accelerators. A DNN implementation method, $ACE$, is then proposed that employs low-energy accelerators to profit maximum performance with small energy consumption. Finally, we further design $FLEX$, the system support for intermittent computation in energy harvesting situations. Experimental results from three different DNN models demonstrate that $RAD$, $ACE$, and $FLEX$ can enable fast and correct inference on energy harvesting devices with up to 4.26X runtime reduction, up to 7.7X energy reduction with higher accuracy over the state-of-the-art.

QuClassi: A Hybrid Deep Neural Network Architecture based on Quantum State Fidelity

In the past decade, remarkable progress has been achieved in deep learning related systems and applications. In the post Moore's Law era, however, the limit of semiconductor fabrication technology along with the increasing data size have slowed down the development of learning algorithms. In parallel, the fast development of quantum computing has pushed it to the new ear. Google illustrates quantum supremacy by completing a specific task (random sampling problem), in 200 seconds, which is impracticable for the largest classical computers. Due to the limitless potential, quantum based learning is an area of interest, in hopes that certain systems might offer a quantum speedup. In this work, we propose a novel architecture QuClassi, a quantum neural network for both binary and multi-class classification. Powered by a quantum differentiation function along with a hybrid quantum-classic design, QuClassi encodes the data with a reduced number of qubits and generates the quantum circuit, pushing it to the quantum platform for the best states, iteratively. We conduct intensive experiments on both the simulator and IBM-Q quantum platform. The evaluation results demonstrate that QuClassi is able to outperform the state-of-the-art quantum-based solutions, Tensorflow-Quantum and QuantumFlow by up to 53.75% and 203.00% for binary and multi-class classifications. When comparing to traditional deep neural networks, QuClassi achieves a comparable performance with 97.37% fewer parameters.

Dancing along Battery: Enabling Transformer with Run-time Reconfigurability on Mobile Devices

A pruning-based AutoML framework for run-time reconfigurability, namely RT3, is proposed in this work. This enables Transformer-based large Natural Language Processing (NLP) models to be efficiently executed on resource-constrained mobile devices and reconfigured (i.e., switching models for dynamic hardware conditions) at run-time. Such reconfigurability is the key to save energy for battery-powered mobile devices, which widely use dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) technique for hardware reconfiguration to prolong battery life. In this work, we creatively explore a hybrid block-structured pruning (BP) and pattern pruning (PP) for Transformer-based models and first attempt to combine hardware and software reconfiguration to maximally save energy for battery-powered mobile devices. Specifically, RT3 integrates two-level optimizations: First, it utilizes an efficient BP as the first-step compression for resource-constrained mobile devices; then, RT3 heuristically generates a shrunken search space based on the first level optimization and searches multiple pattern sets with diverse sparsity for PP via reinforcement learning to support lightweight software reconfiguration, which corresponds to available frequency levels of DVFS (i.e., hardware reconfiguration). At run-time, RT3 can switch the lightweight pattern sets within 45ms to guarantee the required real-time constraint at different frequency levels. Results further show that RT3 can prolong battery life over 4x improvement with less than 1% accuracy loss for Transformer and 1.5% score decrease for DistilBERT.

ESMFL: Efficient and Secure Models for Federated Learning

Nowadays, Deep Neural Networks are widely applied to various domains. However, massive data collection required for deep neural network reveals the potential privacy issues and also consumes large mounts of communication bandwidth. To address these problems, we propose a privacy-preserving method for the federated learning distributed system, operated on Intel Software Guard Extensions, a set of instructions that increase the security of application code and data. Meanwhile, the encrypted models make the transmission overhead larger. Hence, we reduce the commutation cost by sparsification and it can achieve reasonable accuracy with different model architectures.

A Privacy-Preserving-Oriented DNN Pruning and Mobile Acceleration Framework

Weight pruning of deep neural networks (DNNs) has been proposed to satisfy the limited storage and computing capability of mobile edge devices. However, previous pruning methods mainly focus on reducing the model size and/or improving performance without considering the privacy of user data. To mitigate this concern, we propose a privacy-preserving-oriented pruning and mobile acceleration framework that does not require the private training dataset. At the algorithm level of the proposed framework, a systematic weight pruning technique based on the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is designed to iteratively solve the pattern-based pruning problem for each layer with randomly generated synthetic data. In addition, corresponding optimizations at the compiler level are leveraged for inference accelerations on devices. With the proposed framework, users could avoid the time-consuming pruning process for non-experts and directly benefit from compressed models. Experimental results show that the proposed framework outperforms three state-of-art end-to-end DNN frameworks, i.e., TensorFlow-Lite, TVM, and MNN, with speedup up to 4.2X, 2.5X, and 2.0X, respectively, with almost no accuracy loss, while preserving data privacy.

A Unified DNN Weight Compression Framework Using Reweighted Optimization Methods

To address the large model size and intensive computation requirement of deep neural networks (DNNs), weight pruning techniques have been proposed and generally fall into two categories, i.e., static regularization-based pruning and dynamic regularization-based pruning. However, the former method currently suffers either complex workloads or accuracy degradation, while the latter one takes a long time to tune the parameters to achieve the desired pruning rate without accuracy loss. In this paper, we propose a unified DNN weight pruning framework with dynamically updated regularization terms bounded by the designated constraint, which can generate both non-structured sparsity and different kinds of structured sparsity. We also extend our method to an integrated framework for the combination of different DNN compression tasks.

FTRANS: Energy-Efficient Acceleration of Transformers using FPGA

In natural language processing (NLP), the "Transformer" architecture was proposed as the first transduction model replying entirely on self-attention mechanisms without using sequence-aligned recurrent neural networks (RNNs) or convolution, and it achieved significant improvements for sequence to sequence tasks. The introduced intensive computation and storage of these pre-trained language representations has impeded their popularity into computation and memory-constrained devices. The field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is widely used to accelerate deep learning algorithms for its high parallelism and low latency. However, the trained models are still too large to accommodate to an FPGA fabric. In this paper, we propose an efficient acceleration framework, Ftrans, for transformer-based large scale language representations. Our framework includes enhanced block-circulant matrix (BCM)-based weight representation to enable model compression on large-scale language representations at the algorithm level with few accuracy degradation, and an acceleration design at the architecture level. Experimental results show that our proposed framework significantly reduces the model size of NLP models by up to 16 times. Our FPGA design achieves 27.07x and 81x improvement in performance and energy efficiency compared to CPU, and up to 8.80x improvement in energy efficiency compared to GPU.

SAPAG: A Self-Adaptive Privacy Attack From Gradients

Distributed learning such as federated learning or collaborative learning enables model training on decentralized data from users and only collects local gradients, where data is processed close to its sources for data privacy. The nature of not centralizing the training data addresses the privacy issue of privacy-sensitive data. Recent studies show that a third party can reconstruct the true training data in the distributed machine learning system through the publicly-shared gradients. However, existing reconstruction attack frameworks lack generalizability on different Deep Neural Network (DNN) architectures and different weight distribution initialization, and can only succeed in the early training phase. To address these limitations, in this paper, we propose a more general privacy attack from gradient, SAPAG, which uses a Gaussian kernel based of gradient difference as a distance measure. Our experiments demonstrate that SAPAG can construct the training data on different DNNs with different weight initializations and on DNNs in any training phases.

Towards an Efficient and General Framework of Robust Training for Graph Neural Networks

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have made significant advances on several fundamental inference tasks. As a result, there is a surge of interest in using these models for making potentially important decisions in high-regret applications. However, despite GNNs' impressive performance, it has been observed that carefully crafted perturbations on graph structures (or nodes attributes) lead them to make wrong predictions. Presence of these adversarial examples raises serious security concerns. Most of the existing robust GNN design/training methods are only applicable to white-box settings where model parameters are known and gradient based methods can be used by performing convex relaxation of the discrete graph domain. More importantly, these methods are not efficient and scalable which make them infeasible in time sensitive tasks and massive graph datasets. To overcome these limitations, we propose a general framework which leverages the greedy search algorithms and zeroth-order methods to obtain robust GNNs in a generic and an efficient manner. On several applications, we show that the proposed techniques are significantly less computationally expensive and, in some cases, more robust than the state-of-the-art methods making them suitable to large-scale problems which were out of the reach of traditional robust training methods.
