A classification of continuous wavelet transforms in dimension three

This paper presents a full catalogue, up to conjugacy and subgroups of finite index, of all matrix groups $H < {\rm GL}(3,\mathbb{R})$ that give rise to a continuous wavelet transform with associated irreducible quasi-regular representation. For each group in this class, coorbit theory allows to consistently define spaces of sparse signals, and to construct atomic decompositions converging simultaneously in a whole range of these spaces. As an application of the classification, we investigate the existence of compactly supported admissible vectors and atoms for the groups.

Integrable wavelet transforms with abelian dilation groups

We consider a class of semidirect products $G = \mathbb{R}^n \rtimes H$, with $H$ a suitably chosen abelian matrix group. The choice of $H$ ensures that there is a wavelet inversion formula, and we are looking for criteria to decide under which conditions there exists a wavelet such that the associated reproducing kernel is integrable. It is well-known that the existence of integrable wavelet coefficients is related to the question whether the unitary dual of $G$ contains open compact sets. Our main general result reduces the latter problem to that of identifying compact open sets in the quotient space of all orbits of maximal dimension under the dual action of $H$ on $\mathbb{R}^n$. This result is applied to study integrability for certain families of dilation groups; in particular, we give a characterization valid for connected abelian matrix groups acting in dimension three.

Shift-invariant spaces on SI/Z Lie groups

Given a simply connected nilpotent Lie group having unitary irreducible representations that are square-integrable modulo the center (SI/Z), we develop a notion of periodization on the group Fourier transform side, and use this notion to give a characterization of shift-invariant spaces in $L^2(N)$ in terms of range functions. We apply these results to study the structure of frame and Reisz families for shift-invariant spaces. We illustrate these results for the Heisenberg group as well as for other groups with SI/Z representations.

Admissibility For Monomial Representations of Exponential Lie Groups

Let $G$ be a simply connected exponential solvable Lie group, $H$ a closed connected subgroup, and let $τ$ be a representation of $G$ induced from a unitary character $χ_f$ of $H$. The spectrum of $τ$ corresponds via the orbit method to the set $G\cdot A_τ/ G$ of coadjoint orbits that meet the spectral variety $A_τ= f + \h^\perp$. We prove that the spectral measure of $τ$ is absolutely continuous with respect to the Plancherel measure if and only if $H$ acts freely on some point of $A_τ$. As a corollary we show that if $G$ is nonunimodular, then $τ$ has admissible vectors if and only if the preceding orbital condition holds.

A Density Condition for Interpolation on the Heisenberg Group

Let $N$ be the Heisenberg group. We consider left-invariant multiplicity free subspaces of $L^2(N)$. We prove a necessary and sufficient density condition in order that such subspaces possess the interpolation property with respect to a class of discrete subsets of $N$ that includes the integer lattice. We exhibit a concrete example of a subspace that has interpolation for the integer lattice, and we also prove a necessary and sufficient condition for shift invariant subspaces to possess a singly-generated orthonormal basis of translates.
