Can a light ray distinguish charge of a black hole in nonlinear electrodynamics?

It is a well-known fact that light rays do not follow the null geodesics of the space-time in nonlinear electrodynamics; instead, they follow the null geodesics of the so-called effective space-time. Taking this into account, in this paper, we aim to discuss the possibility of distinguishing the type of charge with which the black hole is endowed, via the motion of light rays. The results show that, for any black hole being a charged solution of the field equations of general relativity coupled to the nonlinear electrodynamics, one cannot distinguish the two types of charge (magnetic or electric) through the motion of light rays around it.

Dust collapse in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We consider gravitational collapse in the recently proposed 4D limit of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We show that for collapse of a sphere made of homogeneous dust the process is qualitatively similar to the case of pure Einstein's gravity. The singularity forms as the endstate of collapse and it is trapped behind the horizon at all times. However, and differently from Einstein's theory, as a consequence of the Gauss-Bonnet term, the collapsing cloud reaches the singularity with zero velocity, and the time of formation of the singularity is delayed with respect to the pure Einstein case.

Motion of spinning particles in non asymptotically flat spacetimes

The assumption of asymptotic flatness for isolated astrophysical bodies may be considered an approximation when one considers a cosmological context where a cosmological constant or vacuum energy is present. In this framework we study the motion of spinning particles in static, spherically symmetric and asymptotically non-flat spacetimes with repulsive cosmological vacuum energy and quintessential field. Due to the combined effects of gravitational attraction and cosmological repulsion, the region where stable circular orbits are allowed is restricted by an innermost and an outermost stable circular orbits. We show that taking into account the spin of test particles may enlarge or shrink the region of allowed stable circular orbits depending on whether the spin is co-rotating or counter-rotating with the angular momentum of the particles.

Quasinormal frequencies of black hole in the braneworld

We have studied scalar, electromagnetic and gravitational perturbations of the four-dimensional Reissner-Nordström-like black holes with a \textit{tidal charge} in the Randall-Sundrum braneworld. The quasinormal modes of these scalar, electromagnetic, as well as axial and polar gravitational perturbations, have been studied in both normal and eikonal regimes. Calculations have shown that the black holes on the Randall-Sundrum brane are stable against scalar, electromagnetic and gravitational perturbations. Moreover, we determine the grey body factor, giving transmission and reflection of the scattered waves through the scalar, electromagnetic and gravitational effective potentials. It has been shown that the scalar perturbative fields are the most favorite to the reflected as compared to the latter. With increasing value of the tidal charge ability of the all perturbative potentials to reflect the waves decreases. Our calculations in low- and high-frequency regimes have shown that black holes on the braneworld always have a bigger absorption cross section of massless scalar waves than the Schwarzschild and standard Reissner-Nordström black holes.

Quasinormal modes of test fields around regular black holes

We study scalar, electromagnetic and gravitational test fields in the Hayward, Bardeen and Ayón-Beato-García regular black hole spacetimes and demonstrate that the test fields are stable in all these spacetimes. Using the sixth order WKB approximation of the linear "axial" perturbative scheme, we determine dependence of the quasinormal mode (QNM) frequencies on the characteristic parameters of the test fields and the spacetime charge parameters of the regular black holes. We give also the greybody factors, namely the transmission and reflection coefficients of scattered scalar, electromagnetic and gravitational waves. We show that damping of the QNMs in regular black hole spacetimes is suppressed in comparison to the case of Schwarzschild black holes, and increasing charge parameter of the regular black holes increases reflection and decreases transmission factor of incident waves for each of the test fields.

Rotating black hole solutions with quintessential energy

Quintessential dark energy with density $ρ$ and pressure $p$ is governed by an equation of state of the form $p=-ω_{q}ρ$ with the quintessential parameter $ω_q\in(-1;-1/3)$. We derive the geometry of quintessential rotating black holes, generalizing thus the Kerr spacetimes. Then we study the quintessential rotating black hole spacetimes with the special value of $ω_q = -2/3$ when the resulting formulae are simple and easily tractable. We show that such special spacetimes can exist for dimensionless quintessential parameter $c<1/6$ and determine the critical rotational parameter $a_0$ separating the black hole and naked singularity spacetime in dependence on the quintessential parameter $c$. For the spacetimes with $ω_q = 2/3$ we present the integrated geodesic equations in separated form and study in details the circular geodetical orbits. We give radii and parameters of the photon circular orbits, marginally bound and marginally stable orbits. We stress that the outer boundary on the existence of circular geodesics, given by the so called static radius where the gravitational attraction of the black hole is balanced by the cosmic repulsion, does not depend on the dimensionless spin of the rotating black hole, similarly to the case of the Kerr-de Sitter spacetimes with vacuum dark energy. We also give restrictions on the dimensionless parameters $c$ and $a$ of the spacetimes allowing for existence of stable circular geodesics.

Shadow of the rotating black hole with quintessential energy in the presence of the plasma

We study the shadow of the rotating black hole with quintessential energy i) in vacuum and ii) in the presence of plasma with radial power-law density. For vacuum case the quintessential field parameter of the rotating black hole sufficiently changes the shape of the shadow. With the increasing the quintessential field parameter the radius of the shadow also increases. With the increase of the radius of the shadow of the rotating black hole the quintessential field parameter causes decrease of the distortion of the shadow shape: In the presence of the quintessential field parameter the shadow of fast rotating black hole starting to become more close to circle. The shape and size of shadow of quintessential rotating black hole surrounded by plasma depends on i) plasma parameters, ii) black hole spin and iii) quintessential field parameter. With the increase of the plasma refraction index the apparent radius of the shadow increases. However, for the big values of the quintessential field parameter the change of the black hole shadow's shape due to the presence of plasma is not sufficient. In other words: the effect of the quintessential field parameter becomes more dominant with compare to the effect of plasma.

Particle motion and collisions around rotating regular black hole

The neutral particle motion around rotating regular black hole that was derived from the Ayón-Beato-García black hole solution by the Newman-Janis algorithm in the preceding paper [Phys. Rev. D 89, 104017, (2014)] has been studied. The dependencies of the ISCO (innermost stable circular orbits along geodesics) and unstable orbits on the value of the electric charge of the rotating regular black hole have been shown. Energy extraction from the rotating regular black hole through various processes has been examined. We have found expression of the center of mass energy for the colliding neutral particles coming from infinity, based on the BSW (Baňados-Silk-West) mechanism. The electric charge $Q$ of rotating regular black hole decreases the potential of the gravitational field and the particle needs less bound energy at the circular geodesics. This causes the increase of efficiency of the energy extraction through BSW process in the presence of the electric charge $Q$ from rotating regular black hole. It has been shown that the efficiency of the energy extraction from the rotating regular black hole via the Penrose process decreases with the increase of the electric charge $Q$ and is smaller with compare to 20.7% which is the value for the extreme Kerr black hole with the specific angular momentum $a=1$.

Rotating Regular Black Hole Solution

Based on the Newman-Janis algorithm the Ayon-Beato-Garcia spacetime metric of the regular spherically symmetric, static and charged black hole has been converted into rotational form. It is shown that the derived solution for rotating regular black hole is regular and the critical value of the electric charge $Q$ for which two horizons merge into one sufficiently decreases in the presence of nonvanishing angular momentum $a$ of the black hole.
