Effects of gravitational lensing on neutrino oscillation in $ γ$-spacetime

We study the effects of gravitational lensing on neutrino oscillations in the $γ$-spacetime which describes a static, axially-symmetric and asymptotically flat solution of the Einstein's field equations in vacuum. Using the quantum-mechanical treatment for relativistic neutrinos, we calculate the phase of neutrino oscillations in this spacetime by considering both radial and non-radial propagation. We show the dependence of the oscillation probability on the absolute neutrino masses, which in the two-flavor case also depends upon the sign of mass squared difference, in sharp contrast with the well-known results of vacuum oscillation in flat spacetime. We also show the effects of the deformation parameter $γ$ on neutrino oscillations and reproduce previously known results for the Schwarzschild metric. We then extend these to a more realistic three flavors neutrino scenario and study the effects of the parameter $γ$ and the lightest neutrino mass while using best fit values of neutrino oscillation parameters.

Optical Properties of an Axially Symmetric Black Hole in the Rastall Gravity

This work is devoted to the study of the optical properties of the charged-rotating-NUT-Kiselev (CRNK) black hole in the Rastall theory of gravity. By investigating the motion of photons in the CRNK black hole spacetime in the Rastall gravity we show that the deflection angle of photons due to the gravitational lensing is mostly influenced by the NUT charge, parameter of the equation of state for the quintessence and the quintessential intensity. We observe that the effects of the rest of the spacetime parameters are negligible on the deflection angle. We present the shape of the shadow cast by the CRNK black hole in the Rastall gravity for various values of the spacetime parameters. We demonstrate that spin parameter $a$ of the black hole changes the position and size of the shadow of the black hole very little. While changing the values of the rest of the spacetime parameters can alter the shape and the size of the observed shadow of the black hole significantly. We observe that the radius of the black hole shadow and the deflection angle of a photon are bigger for the CRNK black hole in the Rastall gravity, as compared with the case of the Kerr black hole. Lastly, we show how the spacetime parameters can change the observables $R_s$ and $δ_s$, being the average radius of the shadow and the distortion parameter that measures the deviation of the shape of the shadow from a perfect circle with radius $R_s$, respectively. Our results show that in most scenarios, for bigger values of $R_s$ we get smaller values of the parameter $δ_s$.

Spinning test particle motion around a rotating wormhole

In this work, we investigated the motion of spinning test particles around a rotating wormhole, extending, in this way, the previous work of Benavides-Gallego et al. in [Phys. Rev. D 101, no.12, 124024] to the general case. Using the Mathisson-Papapetrous-Dixon equations, we study the effective potential, circular orbits, and the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) of spinning test particles. We found that both the particle and wormhole spins affect the location of the ISCO significantly. On the other hand, Similar to the non-rotating case, we also found two possible configurations in the effective potential: plus and minus. Furthermore, the minimum value of the effective potential is not at the throat due to its spin, in contrast to the motion of the non-spinning test particles in a non-rotating wormhole, where the effective potential is symmetric, and its minimum value is at the throat. In the case of the ISCO, we found that it increases as the spin of the wormhole a increases, in contrast to black holes where the presence of spin decreases the value of the ISCO. Finally, since the dynamical four-momentum and kinematical four-velocity of the spinning particle are not always parallel, we consider the superluminal bound, finding that the allowed values of s change as the wormhole's spin a increases.

A toy model for a baby universe inside a black hole

We present a dynamical toy model for an expanding universe inside a black hole. The model is built by matching a spherically symmetric collapsing matter cloud to an expanding Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe through a phase transition that occurs in the quantum-gravity dominated region, here modeled with semi-classical corrections at high density. The matching is performed on a space-like hyper-surface identified by the co-moving time at which quantum-gravity induced effects halt collapse. The purpose of the model is to suggest a possible reconciliation between the observation that black holes are well described by the classical solutions and the fact that the theoretical resolution of space-time singularities leads to a bounce for the collapsing matter.

Can the dynamics of test particles around charged stringy black holes mimic the spin of Kerr black holes?

We study the motion of electrically charged particles, magnetic monopoles, and magnetic dipoles around electrically and magnetically charged stringy black holes. From the analysis of the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) of electrically charged particles, we show that the electric charge $Q$ of stringy black holes can mimic well the spin of Kerr black holes; the black hole magnetic charge $Q_m$ can mimic spins up to $a_* \simeq 0.85$ for magnetic dipoles; the magnetic charge parameter $g$ of a magnetic monopole can mimic spins up to $a_* \simeq 0.8$. This is due to the destructive character of the magnetic field and such a result excludes the existence of an appreciable black hole magnetic charge in astrophysical black holes from the observation of rapidly rotating objects with dimensionless spin up to $a_* \simeq 0.99$. We then consider the magnetar SGR (PSR) J1745-2900 as a magnetic dipole orbiting the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*). We show that Sgr A* may be interpreted as a stringy black hole with magnetic charge $Q_{\rm m}/M \leq 0.4118$.

Magnetized particle motion around 4-D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Black Hole

In this paper, we have investigated the dynamics of magnetized particles around 4-D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black hole immersed in an external asymptotically uniform magnetic field. We have shown that the magnetic interaction parameter responsible for circular orbits decreases for negative values of the Gauss-Bonnet parameter $α$ and the range where magnetized particle's stable circular orbits are allowed increases for the positive values of the parameter $α$. The study of the collisions of magnetized, charged and neutral particles has shown that the center-of-mass energy of the particles increases in the presence of positive Gauss-Bonnet parameter. Finally, we show how the magnetic interaction and Gauss-Bonnet parameter may mimic the effect of rotation of the Kerr black hole giving the same ISCO radius for magnetized particles. Detailed analysis of the ISCO show that spin of Kerr black hole can not be mimicked by the effects of magnetic interaction and the Gauss-Bonnet parameters when $α<-4.37$ and the spin parameter $a > 0.237$.

Magnetized particle motion around magnetized Schwarzschild-MOG black hole

In this paper, we have presented the studies of the motion of magnetized particles and energetic processes around Schwarzschild black holes in modified gravity (MOG). The study of circular stable orbits shows that orbits of magnetized particles can not be stable for the values of magnetic coupling parameter $β\geq 1$. It was also shown that the range of stable circular orbits increases with the increase of both MOG and magnetic coupling parameters, while the effects of magnetic interaction stronger than the gravity. It was obtained that the increase of the MOG parameter causes the increase of center-of-mass energy collision of magnetized particles. Moreover, we have analyzed how to mimic the magnetic interaction with the spin of Kerr and Schwarzschild-MOG black holes. We have obtained that the magnetic coupling parameter can mimic the spin parameter $a \leq 0.15$ ($a \leq 0.28$) giving the same radius of innermost contour(co)-rotating orbits at the values of the parameter $β\in (-1,1)$ and the MOG parameter in the range $α\in (-0.17,0.28)$ while the MOG parameter $α\in (-0.7, 0.9)$ mimics spin parameter of the black hole with the range $|a| \in (0,1)$.

On the properties of a deformed extension of the NUT space-time

We consider a class of space-times given by a stationary extension of the Zipoy-Voorhees metric that was found by Halilsoy. We show that the solutions do not describe rotating sources but must be interpreted, similarly to the NUT case, as deformed sources endowed with a gravitomagnetic charge. We show that the Halilsoy family is directly linked to the NUT space-time, which can be obtained in the limit of vanishing deformations. We investigate the motion of test particles and photons in this class of space-times, in particular the innermost stable circular orbits and photon capture radius. Finally we show that this class of solutions possesses a sub-manifold where closed time-like curves are allowed.

Quasi-harmonic oscillations of charged particles in static axially symmetric space-times immersed in a uniform magnetic field

In continuation of our previous study [Phys. Rev. D 99 (2019) 4, 044012], we investigate the motion of charged particles in the $γ$-metric. We provide some examples of curled trajectories in the equatorial plane and escape trajectories outside the equatorial plane. Finally, we consider harmonic oscillations due to small displacements from stable circular orbits on the equatorial plane and compute the epicyclic frequencies for different values of deformation parameter and magnetic field.

Gravitational lensing by magnetized compact object in the presence of plasma

We study the gravitational lensing in the weak field approximation assuming the presence of a plasma and of a magnetic field around a compact gravitational source. The external magnetic field causes the split of the image, as the counterpart of the Zeeman effect. The magnetic field affects the magnification of images, creating additional components. We also study the time delay of an electromagnetic signal due to the geometry and the gravitational field around the source. We show that the time delay strongly depends on the plasma parameters. Lastly, we consider the effects of the presence of an inhomogeneous plasma on the gravitational lensing.

Shadow of rotating regular black holes

We study the shadows cast by the different types of rotating regular black holes viz. Ayón-Beato-García {(ABG)}, Hayward, and Bardeen. These black holes have in addition to the total mass ($M$) and rotation parameter ($a$), different parameters as electric charge ($Q$), deviation parameter ($g$), and magnetic charge ($g_{*}$), respectively. Interestingly, the size of the shadow is affected by these parameters in addition to the rotation parameter. We found that the radius of the shadow in each case decreases monotonically and the distortion parameter increases when the value of these parameters increase. A comparison with the standard Kerr case is also investigated. We have also studied the influence of the plasma environment around regular black holes to discuss its shadow. The presence of the plasma affects the apparent size of the regular black hole's shadow to be increased due to two effects (i) gravitational redshift of the photons and (ii) radial dependence of plasma density.

Energetics and optical properties of $6$-dimensional rotating black hole in pure Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We study physical processes around a rotating black hole in pure Gauss-Bonnet (GB) gravity. In pure GB gravity, gravitational potential has slower fall off as compared to the corresponding Einstein potential in the same dimension. It is therefore expected that the energetics of pure GB black hole would be weaker, and our analysis bears out that the efficiency of energy extraction by Penrose process is increased to $25.8\%$ and particle acceleration is increased to $55.28\%$, and optical shadow of the black hole is decreased. These are the distinguishing in principle observable features of pure GB black hole.

Optical properties of black hole in the presence of plasma: shadow

We have studied photon motion around axially symmetric rotating Kerr black hole in the presence of plasma with radial power-law density. It is shown that in the presence of plasma the observed shape and size of shadow changes depending on i) plasma parameters, ii) black hole spin and iii) inclination angle between observer plane and axis of rotation of black hole. In order to extract pure effect of plasma influence on black hole image the particular case of the Schwarzschild black hole has also been investigated and it has been shown that i) the photon sphere around the spherical symmetric black hole is left unchanged under the plasma influence, ii) however the Schwarzschild black hole shadow size in plasma is reduced due to the refraction of the electromagnetic radiation in plasma environment of black hole. The study of the energy emission from the black hole in plasma shows that in the presence of plasma the maximal energy emission rate from the black hole decreases.

Quasinormal modes of test fields around regular black holes

We study scalar, electromagnetic and gravitational test fields in the Hayward, Bardeen and Ayón-Beato-García regular black hole spacetimes and demonstrate that the test fields are stable in all these spacetimes. Using the sixth order WKB approximation of the linear "axial" perturbative scheme, we determine dependence of the quasinormal mode (QNM) frequencies on the characteristic parameters of the test fields and the spacetime charge parameters of the regular black holes. We give also the greybody factors, namely the transmission and reflection coefficients of scattered scalar, electromagnetic and gravitational waves. We show that damping of the QNMs in regular black hole spacetimes is suppressed in comparison to the case of Schwarzschild black holes, and increasing charge parameter of the regular black holes increases reflection and decreases transmission factor of incident waves for each of the test fields.

Shadow of the rotating black hole with quintessential energy in the presence of the plasma

We study the shadow of the rotating black hole with quintessential energy i) in vacuum and ii) in the presence of plasma with radial power-law density. For vacuum case the quintessential field parameter of the rotating black hole sufficiently changes the shape of the shadow. With the increasing the quintessential field parameter the radius of the shadow also increases. With the increase of the radius of the shadow of the rotating black hole the quintessential field parameter causes decrease of the distortion of the shadow shape: In the presence of the quintessential field parameter the shadow of fast rotating black hole starting to become more close to circle. The shape and size of shadow of quintessential rotating black hole surrounded by plasma depends on i) plasma parameters, ii) black hole spin and iii) quintessential field parameter. With the increase of the plasma refraction index the apparent radius of the shadow increases. However, for the big values of the quintessential field parameter the change of the black hole shadow's shape due to the presence of plasma is not sufficient. In other words: the effect of the quintessential field parameter becomes more dominant with compare to the effect of plasma.

Particle motion and collisions around rotating regular black hole

The neutral particle motion around rotating regular black hole that was derived from the Ayón-Beato-García black hole solution by the Newman-Janis algorithm in the preceding paper [Phys. Rev. D 89, 104017, (2014)] has been studied. The dependencies of the ISCO (innermost stable circular orbits along geodesics) and unstable orbits on the value of the electric charge of the rotating regular black hole have been shown. Energy extraction from the rotating regular black hole through various processes has been examined. We have found expression of the center of mass energy for the colliding neutral particles coming from infinity, based on the BSW (Baňados-Silk-West) mechanism. The electric charge $Q$ of rotating regular black hole decreases the potential of the gravitational field and the particle needs less bound energy at the circular geodesics. This causes the increase of efficiency of the energy extraction through BSW process in the presence of the electric charge $Q$ from rotating regular black hole. It has been shown that the efficiency of the energy extraction from the rotating regular black hole via the Penrose process decreases with the increase of the electric charge $Q$ and is smaller with compare to 20.7% which is the value for the extreme Kerr black hole with the specific angular momentum $a=1$.

Rotating Regular Black Hole Solution

Based on the Newman-Janis algorithm the Ayon-Beato-Garcia spacetime metric of the regular spherically symmetric, static and charged black hole has been converted into rotational form. It is shown that the derived solution for rotating regular black hole is regular and the critical value of the electric charge $Q$ for which two horizons merge into one sufficiently decreases in the presence of nonvanishing angular momentum $a$ of the black hole.

Acceleration of particles by black hole with gravitomagnetic charge immersed in magnetic field

The collision of test charged particles in the vicinity of an event horizon of a weakly magnetized non-rotating black hole with gravitomagnetic charge has been studied. The presence of the external magnetic field decreases the innermost stable circular orbits (ISCO) radii of charged particles. The opposite mechanism occurs when there is nonvanishing gravitomagnetic charge. For a collision of charged particle moving at ISCO and the neutral particle falling from infinity the maximal collision energy can be decreased by gravitomagnetic charge in the presence of external asymptotically uniform magnetic field.

Acceleration of particles in spacetimes of black string

The particle acceleration mechanism in $S^2 \times\mathbb{R}^1$ topology, namely in the spacetime of the five-dimensional compact black string has been studied. The expression of center-of-mass energy of the colliding neutral particles near static black string has been found. The collision of charged particle moving at the innermost stable circular orbit with neutral particle coming from infinity have been considered when black string is immersed in external uniform magnetic field. It has been shown that the unlimited center-of-mass energy can be approached in case of the extremal rotation of the black string which is similar to the analogous effect in the Kerr spacetime. We have also obtained that the scattering energy of particles in the center-of-mass system can take arbitrary large values not only for extremal black string but also for nonextremal one. It has been derived that the presence of the extra dimension can, in principle, increase the upper limit of efficiency of energy extraction from the extremely rotating black string up to $203\%$ versus to $143\%$ which can be extracted from the extreme Kerr black hole.

Particle Acceleration Around 5-dimensional Kerr Black Hole

On the lines of the 4-dimensional Kerr black hole we consider the particle acceleration near a 5-dimensional Kerr black hole which has the two rotation parameters. It turns out that the center of mass energy of the two equal mass colliding particles as expected diverges for the extremal black hole and there is a symmetry in the results for $θ= 0, π/2$. Because of the two rotation parameters, $r=0$ can be a horizon without being a curvature singularity. It is shown that the acceleration of particles to high energies near the 5-D extreme rotating black hole avoids fine-tuning of the angular momentum of particles.

Shadow of Kerr-Taub-NUT black hole

The shadow of a rotating black hole with nonvanishing gravitomagnetic charge has been studied. It was shown that in addition to the angular momentum of black hole the gravitomagnetic charge term deforms the shape of the black hole shadow. From the numerical results we have obtained that for a given value of the rotation parameter, the presence of a gravitomagnetic charge enlarges the shadow and reduces its deformation with respect to the spacetime without gravitomagnetic charge. Finally we have studied the capture cross section for massive particles by black hole with the nonvanishing gravitomagnetic charge.

Energy Extraction and Particle Acceleration Around Rotating Black Hole in Horava-Lifshitz Gravity

Penrose process on rotational energy extraction of the black hole (BH) in the original non-projectable Hořava-Lifshitz gravity is studied. The strong dependence of the extracted energy from the special range of parameters of the Hořava-Lifshitz gravity, such as parameter $Λ_W$ and specific angular momentum $a$ has been found. Particle acceleration near the rotating BH in Hořava-Lifshitz gravity has been studied. It is shown that the fundamental parameter of the Hořava-Lifshitz gravity can impose limitation on the the energy of the accelerating particles preventing them from the infinite value.

Magnetized Particle Capture Cross Section for Braneworld Black Hole

Capture cross section of magnetized particle (with nonzero magnetic moment) by braneworld black hole in uniform magnetic field is considered. The magnetic moment of particle was chosen as it was done by \citet{rs99} and for the simplicity particle with zero electric charge is chosen. It is shown that the spin of particle as well as the brane parameter are to sustain the stability of particles circularly orbiting around the black hole in braneworld i.e. spin of particles and brane parameter try to prevent the capture by black hole.

Particle Motion around Black Hole in Horava-Lifshitz Gravity

Analytical solutions of Maxwell equations around black hole immersed in external uniform magnetic field in the background of the Kehagias-Sfetsos (KS) asymptotically flat black hole solution of Hořava-Lifshitz gravity have been found. Influence of magnetic field on effective potential of the radial motion of charged test particle around black hole immersed in external magnetic field in Hořava-Lifshitz gravity has been investigated by using Hamilton-Jacobi method. Exact analytical solution for dependence of the minimal radius of the circular orbits $r_{\rm mc}$ from KS parameter $ω$ for motion of test particle around spherical symmetric black hole in Hořava-Lifshitz gravity has been derived. The critical values of the particle's angular momentum for captured particles by black hole in Hořava-Lifshitz gravity have been obtained numerically. The comparison of the obtained numerical results with the astrophysical observational data on radii of the innermost stable circular orbits gives us the estimation of the parameter as $ω\simeq 3.6 \cdot 10^{-24} {\rm cm}^{-2}$.

Quantum Interference Effects in Horava-Lifshitz Gravity

The relativistic quantum interference effects in the spacetime of slowly rotating object in the Hořava-Lifshitz gravity as the Sagnac effect and phase shift of interfering particle in neutron interferometer are derived. We consider the extension of Kehagias-Sfetsos (KS) solution~\cite{ks09} in the Hořava-Lifshitz gravity for the slowly rotating gravitating object. Using the covariant Klein-Gordon equation in the nonrelativistic approximation, it is shown that the phase shift in the interference of particles includes the gravitational potential term with the KS parameter $ω$. It is found that in the case of the Sagnac effect, the influence of the KS parameter $ω$ is becoming important due to the fact that the angular velocity of the locally non rotating observer is increased in Hořava gravity. From the results of the recent experiments~\cite{holgeretal} we have obtained lower limit for the coupling KS constant as $ω\simeq 1.25 \cdot 10^{-25} \rm{cm}^{2}$. Finally, as an example, we apply the obtained results to the calculation of the UCN (ultra-cold neutrons) energy level modification in the gravitational field of slowly rotating gravitating object in the Hořava-Lifshitz gravity.

Charged Particle Motion Around Rotating Black Hole in Braneworld Immersed in Magnetic Field

Analytical solutions of Maxwell equations in background spacetime of black hole in braneworld immersed in external uniform magnetic field have been found. Influence of both magnetic and brane parameters on effective potential of the radial motion of charged test particle around slowly rotating black hole in braneworld immersed in uniform magnetic field has been investigated by using Hamilton-Jacobi method. Exact analytical solution for dependence of the radius of the innermost stable circular orbits (ISCO) $r_{\rm ISCO}$ from brane parameter for motion of test particle around nonrotating isolated black hole in braneworld has been derived. It has been shown that radius $r_{\rm ISCO}$ is monotonically growing with the increase of module of brane tidal charge. Comparison of the predictions on $r_{\rm ISCO}$ of the brane world model and of the observational results of ISCO from relativistic accretion disks around black holes provided upper limit for brane tidal charge $\lesssim 10^9 {\rm cm}^2$.
