Enhanced negative nonlocal conductance in an interacting quantum dot connected to two ferromagnetic leads and one superconducting lead

In this paper, we investigate the electronic transport properties of a quantum dot (QD) connected to two ferromagnetic leads and one superconductor lead in the Kondo regime by means of the finite-$U$ slave boson mean field approach and nonequilibrium Green function technique. In this three-terminal hybrid nano-device, we will focus our attention on the joint effects of the Konod correlation, superconducting proximity pairing, and spin polarization of leads. It is found that: the superconducting proximity effect will suppress the linear local conductance (LLC) stemming from the weakened Kondo peak, and when its coupling $Γ_s$ is bigger than the tunnel-coupling $Γ$ of two normal leads, the linear cross conductance (LCC) becomes negative in the Kondo region; for antiparallel configuration, increasing spin polarization further suppresses LLC but enhances LCC, i.e. causing larger negative values of LCC, since it is benefit for emergence of cross Andreev reflection; On the contrary, for parallel configuration, with increasing spin polarization, the LLC descends and greatly widens with the appearance of shoulders, and eventually splits into four peaks, and meanwhile the LCC reduces relatively rapidly to the normal conductance.

First principles calculations on theoretical band gap improvement of IIIA-VA zinc-blende semiconductor InAs

The structural, electronic, dielectric and vibrational properties of zinc-blende (ZB) InAs were studied within the framework of density functional theory (DFT) by employing local density approximation and norm-conserving pseudopotentials. The optimal lattice parameter, direct band gap, static dielectric constant, phonon frequencies and Born effective charges calculated by treating In-4d electrons as valence states are in satisfactory agreement with other reported theoretical and experimental findings. The calculated band gap is reasonably accurate and improved in comparison to other findings.

Transient currents of a single molecular junction with a vibrational mode

By using a propagation scheme for current matrices and an auxiliary mode expansion method, we investigate the transient dynamics of a single molecular junction coupled with a vibrational mode. Our approach is based on the Anderson-Holstein model and the dressed tunneling approximation for the electronic self-energy in the polaronic regime. The time-dependent currents after a sudden switching on the tunneling to leads and an abrupt upward step bias pulse are calculated. We show that the strong electron-phonon interaction greatly influences the nonlinear response properties of the system, and gives rise to interesting characteristics on the time traces of transient currents.

Full Counting Statistics of Electron Tunneling through Coherently Coupled Quantum Dots: Exchange Interaction Effect on Shot Noise

We investigate the zero-frequency shot noise of electronic tunneling through a single quantum dot (SQD) and coherently coupled quantum dots (CQD) taking into account the Coulomb interaction. Within Hartree-Fock approximation, the analytical expressions of current and zero-frequency shot noise are self-consistently derived in the framework of full counting statistics for the both systems. We demonstrate that the correction term of zero-frequency shot noise induced by the intradot Coulomb interaction is almost negligible compared to the noninteracting shot noise in a SQD, while in a CQD the interplay of the interdot coherence fluctuations and strong interdot Coulomb interaction can induce a super-Poissonian noise even in the symmetric case.

Time-dependent quantum transport through an interacting quantum dot beyond sequential tunneling: second-order quantum rate equations

A general theoretical formulation for the effect of a strong on-site Coulomb interaction on the time-dependent electron transport through a quantum dot under the influence of arbitrary time-varying bias voltages and/or external fields is presented, based on slave bosons and the Keldysh nonequilibrium Green's function (GF) techniques. To avoid the difficulties of computing double-time GFs, we generalize the propagation scheme recently developed by Croy and Saalmann to combine the auxiliary-mode expansion with the celebrated Lacroix's decoupling approximation in dealing with the second-order correlated GFs and then establish a closed set of coupled equations of motion, called second-order quantum rate equations (SOQREs), for exact description of transient dynamics of electron correlated tunneling. We verify that the stationary solution of our SOQREs is able to correctly describe the Kondo effect on a qualitative level. Moreover, a comparison with other methods, such as the second-order von Neumann approach and Hubbard-I approximation, is performed. As illustrations, we investigate the transient current behaviors in response to a step voltage pulse and a harmonic driving voltage, and linear admittance as well, in the cotunneling regime.

Full counting statistics of a single-molecular quantum dot

We investigate the full counting statistics of a single quantum dot strongly coupled to a local phonon and weakly tunnel-connected to two metallic electrodes. By employing the generalized nonequilibrium Green function method and the Lang-Firsov transformation, we derive an explicit analytical formula for the cumulant generating function, which makes one to be able to identify distinctly the elastic and inelastic contributions to the current and zero-frequency shot noise. We find that at zero temperature, the inelastic effect causes upward steps in the current and downward jumps in the noise at the bias voltages corresponding to the opening of the inelastic channels, which are ascribed to the vibration-induced complex dependences of electronic self-energies on the energy and bias voltage. More interestingly, the Fano factor exhibits oscillatory behavior with increasing bias voltage and its minimum value is observed to be smaller than one half.

Phonon effects on the current noise spectra and the ac conductance of a single molecular junction

By using nonequilibrium Green's functions and the equation of motion method, we formulate a self-consistent field theory for the electron transport through a single molecular junction (SMJ) coupled with a vibrational mode. We show that the nonequilibrium dynamics of the phonons in strong electron-phonon coupling regime can be taken into account appropriately in this self-consistent perturbation theory, and the self-energy of phonons is connected with the current fluctuations in the molecular junction. We calculate the finite-frequency nonsymmetrized noise spectra and the ac conductance, which reveal a wealth of inelastic electron tunneling characteristics on the absorption and emission properties of this SMJ. In the presence of a finite bias voltage and the electron tunneling current, the vibration mode of the molecular junction is heated and driven to an unequilibrated state. The influences of unequilibrated phonons on the current and the noise spectra are investigated.

Finite frequency current fluctuations and the self-consistent perturbation theory for electron transport through quantum dot

We have formulated the problem of electron transport through interacting quantum dot system in the framework of self-consistent perturbation theory, and show that the current conservation condition is guaranteed due to the gauge invariant properties of the Green's functions and the generalized Ward identity. By using a generating functional for the statistics of the nonequilibrium system, we have obtained general formulae for calculating the current and the current fluctuations in the presence of arbitrary time-dependent potentials. As demonstration of application, we have studied the interaction effects on the finite frequency noise for electron resonant tunneling through an Anderson impurity, and obtained an analytical equation for the interaction effect on the finite frequency current noise within the Hartree approximation, which is an extension of the previous results obtained by Hershfield on zero frequency shot noise.

Full counting statistics of Kondo-type tunneling in a quantum dot: the fluctuation effect of Slave-Boson field

We study the full counting statistics (FCS) of electron tunneling through a multi-terminal quantum dot in the Kondo regime within the slave-boson mean field theory. By employing the A.O. Gogolin and A. Komnik's method of calculating the FCS generating function based on the nonequilibrium Green's function [Phys. Rev. B {\bf 73}, 195301 (2006)], we obtain the counting field $λ$-dependent self-consistent equations for the mean values of the slave-boson fields and the explicit expression for the derivative of the adiabatic potential of the system with respect to the counting fields. Performing perturbative expansion to the first order of $λ$, we find an extra contribution to the shot noise due to the bias-induced Bose field fluctuation, and then confirm that the nonequilibrium particle number fluctuation plays an important role in the current noise of the Kondo dot: enhancement of the current auto-correlation and a positive current cross-correlation.

Stochastic parallel gradient descent based adaptive optics used for high contrast imaging coronagraph

An adaptive optics (AO) system based on stochastic parallel gradient descent (SPGD) algorithm is proposed to reduce the speckle noises in the optical system of stellar coronagraph in order to further improve the contrast. The principle of SPGD algorithm is described briefly and a metric suitable for point source imaging optimization is given. The feasibility and good performance of SPGD algorithm is demonstrated by experimental system featured with a 140-actuators deformable mirror (DM) and a Hartmann- Shark wavefront sensor. Then the SPGD based AO is applied to a liquid crystal array (LCA) based coronagraph. The LCA can modulate the incoming light to generate a pupil apodization mask in any pattern. A circular stepped pattern is used in our preliminary experiment and the image contrast shows improvement from 10^-3 to 10^-4.5 at angular distance of 2λ/D after corrected by SPGD based AO.

Spin interference and Fano effect in electron transport through a mesoscopic ring side-coupled with a quantum dot

We investigate the electron transport through a mesoscopic ring side-coupled with a quantum dot(QD) in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit(SO) interaction. It is shown that both the Fano resonance and the spin interference effects play important roles in the electron transport properties. As the QD level is around the Fermi energy, the total conductance shows typical Fano resonance line shape. By applying an electrical gate voltage to the QD, the total transmission through the system can be strongly modulated. By threading the mesoscopic ring with a magnetic flux, the time-reversal symmetry of the system is broken, and a spin polarized current can be obtained even though the incident current is unpolarized.

Counting statistics of tunneling through a single molecule: effect of distortion and displacement of vibrational potential surface

We analyze the effects of a distortion of the nuclear potential of a molecular quantum dot (QD), as well as a shift of its equilibrium position, on nonequilibrium-vibration-assisted tunneling through the QD with a single level ($ε_d$) coupled to the vibrational mode. For this purpose, we derive an explicit analytical expression for the Franck-Condon (FC) factor for a displaced-distorted oscillator surface of the molecule and establish rate equations in the joint electron-phonon representation to examine the current-voltage characteristics and zero-frequency shot noise, and skewness as well. Our numerical analyses shows that the distortion has two important effects. The first one is that it breaks the symmetry between the excitation spectra of the charge states, leading to asymmetric tunneling properties with respect to $ε_d>0$ and $ε_d<0$. Secondly, distortion (frequency change of the oscillator) significantly changes the voltage-activated cascaded transition mechanism, and consequently gives rise to a different nonequilibrium vibrational distribution from that of the case without distortion. Taken in conjunction with strongly modified FC factors due to distortion, this results in some new transport features: the appearance of strong NDC even for a single-level QD with symmetric tunnel couplings; a giant Fano factor even for a molecule with an extremely weak electron-phonon interaction; and enhanced skewness that can have a large negative value under certain conditions.

Positive current noise cross-correlations in capacitively coupled double quantum dots with ferromagnetic leads

We examine cross-correlations (CCs) in the tunneling currents through two parallel interacting quantum dots coupled to four independent ferromagnetic electrodes. We find that when either one of the two circuits is in the parallel configuration with sufficiently strong polarization strength, a new mechanism of dynamical spin blockade, i.e., a spin-dependent bunching of tunneling events, governs transport through the system together with the inter-dot Coulomb interaction, leading to a sign-reversal of the zero-frequency current CC in the dynamical channel blockade regime, and to enhancement of positive current CC in the dynamical channel anti-blockade regimes, in contrast to the corresponding results for the case of paramagnetic leads.

Quantum phase transition and underscreened Kondo effect in electron transport through parallel double quantum dots

We investigate electronic transport through parallel double quantum dot(DQD) system with strong on-site Coulomb interaction and capacitive interdot coupling. By applying numerical renormalization group(NRG) method, the ground state of the system and the transmission probability at zero temperature have been obtained. For a system of quantum dots with degenerate energy levels and small interdot tunnel coupling, the spin correlations between the DQDs is ferromagnetic, and the ground state of the system is a spin 1 triplet state. The linear conductance will reach the unitary limit ($2e^2/h$) due to the underscreened Kondo effect at low temperature. As the interdot tunnel coupling increases, there is a quantum phase transition from ferromagnetic to anti-ferromagnetic spin correlation in DQDs and the linear conductance is strongly suppressed.

Robust negative differential conductance and enhanced shot noise in transport through a molecular transistor with vibration assistance

In this paper, we analyze vibration-assisted sequential tunneling (including current-voltage characteristics and zero-frequency shot noise) through a molecular quantum dot with two electronic orbitals asymmetrically coupled to the internal vibration. We employ rate equations for the case of equilibrated phonons, and strong Coulomb blockade. We find that a system with a strongly phonon-coupled ground state orbital and weakly phonon-coupled excited state orbital exhibits strong negative differential conductance; and it also shows super-Poissonian current noise. We discuss in detail the reasons and conditions for the appearance of negative differential conductance.

Magnetic-flux-controlled giant Fano factor for the coherent tunneling through a parallel double-quantum-dot

We report our studies of zero-frequency shot noise in tunneling through a parallel-coupled quantum dot interferometer by employing number-resolved quantum rate equations. We show that the combination of quantum interference effect between two pathways and strong Coulomb repulsion could result in a giant Fano factor, which is controllable by tuning the enclosed magnetic flux.
