Topological electronic structure and Weyl points in nonsymmorphic hexagonal materials

Using topological band theory analysis we show that the nonsymmorphic symmetry operations in hexagonal lattices enforce Weyl points at the screw-invariant high-symmetry lines of the band structure. The corepresentation theory and connectivity group theory show that Weyl points are generated by band crossings in accordion-like and hourglass-like dispersion relations. These Weyl points are stable against weak perturbations and are protected by the screw rotation symmetry. Based on first-principles calculations we found a complete agreement between the topological predicted energy dispersion relations and real hexagonal materials. Topological charge (chirality) and Berry curvature calculations show the simultaneous formation of Weyl points and nodal-lines in 4d transition-metal trifluorides such as AgF3 and AuF3. Furthermore, a large intrinsic spin-Hall conductivity was found due to the combined strong spin-orbit coupling and multiple Weyl-point crossings in the electronic structure. These materials could be used to the spin/charge conversion in more energy-efficient spintronic devices.

A decomposition of equivariant K-theory in twisted equivariant K-theories

For G a finite group and X a G-space on which a normal subgroup A acts trivially, we show that the G-equivariant K-theory of X decomposes as a direct sum of twisted equivariant K-theories of X parametrized by the orbits of the conjugation action of G on the irreducible representations of A. The twists are group 2-cocycles which encode the obstruction of lifting an irreducible representation of A to the subgroup of G which fixes the isomorphism class of the irreducible representation.

Classification of Pointed Fusion Categories of dimension 8 up to weak Morita Equivalence

In this paper we give a complete classification of pointed fusion categories over $\mathbb{C}$ of global dimension 8. We first classify the equivalence classes of pointed fusion categories of dimension 8, and then we proceed to determine which of these equivalence classes have equivalent categories of modules. This classificaction permits to classify the equivalence classes of braded tensor equivalences of twisted Drinfeld doubles of finite groups of order 8.

On the Classification of Pointed Fusion Categories up to weak Morita Equivalence

A pointed fusion category is a rigid tensor category with finitely many isomorphism classes of simple objects which moreover are invertible. Two tensor categories $C$ and $D$ are weakly Morita equivalent if there exists an indecomposable right module category $M$ over $C$ such that $Fun_C(M,M)$ and $D$ are tensor equivalent. We use the Lyndon-Hochschild-Serre spectral sequence associated to abelian group extensions to give necessary and sufficient conditions in terms of cohomology classes for two pointed fusion categories to be weakly Morita equivalent. This result may permit to classify the equivalence classes of pointed fusion categories of any given global dimension.

Topological properties of spaces of projective unitary representations

Let $G$ be a compact and connected Lie group and $PU(\mathcal H)$ be the group of projective unitary operators on a separable Hilbert space $\mathcal H$ endowed with the strong operator topology. We study the space $hom_{st}(G, PU(\mathcal H))$ of continuous homomorphisms from $G$ to $PU(\mathcal H)$ which are stable, namely the homomorphisms whose induced representation contains each irreducible representation an infinitely number of times. We show that the connected components of $hom_{st}(G, PU(\mathcal H))$ are parametrized by the isomorphism classes of $S^1$-central extensions of $G$, and that each connected component has the group $hom(G,S^1)$ for fundamental group and trivial higher homotopy groups. We study the conjugation map $PU(\mathcal H) \to hom_{st}(G, PU(\mathcal H))$, $F \mapsto FαF^{-1}$, we show that it has no local cross sections and we prove that for a map $B \to hom_{st}(G, PU(\mathcal H))$ with $B$ paracompact of finite covering dimension, local lifts to $PU(\mathcal H)$ do exist.

Segal's spectral sequence in twisted equivariant K-theory for proper and discrete actions

We use a spectral sequence developed by Graeme Segal in order to understand the twisted G-equivariant K-theory for proper and discrete actions. We show that the second page of this spectral sequence is isomorphic to a version of Bredon cohomology with local coefficients in twisted representations. We furthermore explain some phenomena concerning the third differential of the spectral sequence, and we recover known results when the twisting comes from finite order elements in discrete torsion.

Multiplicative Structures on the Twisted Equivariant K-theory of Finite Groups

Let $K$ be a finite group and let $G$ be a finite group acting on $K$ by automorphisms. In this paper we study two different but intimately related subjects: on the one side we classify all possible multiplicative and associative structures with which one can endow the twisted $G$-equivariant K-theory of $K$, and on the other, we classify all possible monoidal structures with which one can endow the category of twisted and $G$-equivariant bundles over $K$. We achieve this classification by encoding the relevant information in the cochains of a sub double complex of the double bar resolution associated to the semi-direct product $K \rtimes G$; we use known calculations of the cohomology of $K$, $G$ and $K \rtimes G$ to produce concrete examples of our classification. In the case in which $K=G$ and $G$ acts by conjugation, the multiplication map $G \rtimes G \to G$ is a homomorphism of groups and we define a shuffle homomorphism which realizes this map at the homological level. We show that the categorical information that defines the Twisted Drinfeld Double can be realized as the dual of the shuffle homomorphism applied to any 3-cocycle of $G$. We use the pullback of the multiplication map in cohomology to classify the possible ring structures that the Grothendieck ring of representations of the Twisted Drinfeld Double may have, and we include concrete examples of this procedure.

T-duality and exceptional generalized geometry through symmetries of dg-manifolds

We study dg-manifolds which are R[2]-bundles over R[1]-bundles over manifolds, we calculate its symmetries, its derived symmetries and we introduce the concept of T-dual dg-manifolds. Within this framework we construct the T-duality map as a degree -1 map between the cohomologies of the T-dual dg-manifolds and we show an explicit isomorphism between the differential graded algebra of the symmetries of the T-dual dg-manifolds. We furthermore show how the algebraic structure underlying B_n generalized geometry could be recovered as derived dg-Leibniz algebra of the fixed points of the T-dual automorphism acting on the symmetries of a self T-dual dg-manifold, and we show how other types of algebraic structures underlying exceptional generalized geometry could be obtained as derived symmetries of certain dg-manifolds.

Equivariant extensions of differential forms for non-compact Lie groups

Consider a manifold endowed with the action of a Lie group. We study the relation between the cohomology of the Cartan complex and the equivariant cohomology by using the equivariant De Rham complex developed by Getzler, and we show that the cohomology of the Cartan complex lies on the 0-th row of the second page of a spectral sequence converging to the equivariant cohomology. We use this result to generalize a result of Witten on the equivalence of absence of anomalies in gauge WZW actions on compact Lie groups to the existence of equivariant extension of the WZW term, to the case on which the gauge group is the special linear group with real coefficients.

Group actions on dg-manifolds and Exact Courant algebroids

Let G be a Lie group acting by diffeomorphisms on a manifold M and consider the image of T[1]G and T[1]M, of G and M respectively, in the category of differential graded manifolds. We show that the obstruction to lift the action of T[1]G on T[1]M to an action on a R[n]-bundle over T[1]M is measured by the G equivariant cohomology of M. We explicitly calculate the differential graded Lie algebra of the symmetries of the R[n]-bundle over T[1]M and we use this differential graded Lie algebra to understand which actions are hamiltonian. We show how split Exact Courant algebroids could be obtained as the derived Leibniz algebra of the symmetries of R[2]-bundles over T[1]M, and we use this construction to propose that the infinitesimal symmetries of a split Exact Courant algebroid should be encoded in the differential graded Lie algebra of symmetries of a R[2]-bundle over T[1]M. With this setup at hand, we propose a definition for an action of a Lie group on an Exact Courant algebroid and we propose conditions for the action to be hamiltonian.

Hochschild cohomology and string topology of global quotient orbifolds

Let M be a connected, simply connected, closed and oriented manifold, and G a finite group acting on M by orientation preserving diffeomorphisms. In this paper we show an explicit ring isomorphism between the orbifold string topology of the orbifold [M/G] and the Hochschild cohomology of the dg-ring obtained by performing the smash product between the group G and the singular cochain complex of M.

Holonomy for Gerbes over Orbifolds

In this paper we compute explicit formulas for the holonomy map for a gerbe with connection over an orbifold. We show that the holonomy descends to a transgression map in Deligne cohomology. We prove that this recovers both the inner local systems in Ruan's theory of twisted orbifold cohomology and the local system of Freed-Hopkins-Teleman in their work in twisted K-theory. In the case in which the orbifold is simply a manifold we recover previous results of Gawedzki and Brylinski.
