Hubble Tension and Dark Energy in Teleparallel Gauss-Bonnet Gravity: New Constraints from DESI BAO, Pantheon$^+$ and Hubble Data

We explore the cosmological dynamics of a teleparallel Gauss-Bonnet gravity model defined by the torsion scalar $T$ and the torsion-based Gauss-Bonnet invariant $T_{\mathcal{G}}$, deriving modified Friedmann equations for a flat FLRW Universe and corresponding linear scalar perturbation equations. Using a numerical approach, we solve these equations for pressureless matter, predicting the redshift evolution of the Hubble parameter $H(z)$. Bayesian Markov chain Monte Carlo analysis, incorporating late-time observations from Cosmic Chronometers, Pantheon$^+$ with SH0ES, and DESI BAO (Data Release 1 and Data Release 2), constrains the model parameters, revealing that $f(T, T_{\mathcal{G}})$ mimics dark energy in the absence of a cosmological constant, presenting a viable alternative to $Λ$CDM paradigm. Stability is confirmed via scalar perturbation analysis of Hubble and matter density fluctuations, positioning $f(T, T_{\mathcal{G}})$ gravity as a robust framework to address cosmic acceleration challenges. The model yields a present-day effective equation of state $ω_{\mathrm{eff}}(z=0) \approx -0.664$ to \(-0.693\), consistent with observations, and partially alleviates the Hubble tension with $H_0$ estimates of 69 to 71.5\kms. These findings highlight the potential of $f(T, T_{\mathcal{G}})$ gravity to resolve fundamental cosmological puzzles while aligning with late-time observational data.

Dynamical systems analysis in $f(T,ϕ)$ gravity

Teleparallel based cosmological models provide a description of gravity in which torsion is the mediator of gravitation. Several extensions have been made within the so-called Teleparallel equivalent of general relativity which is equivalent to general relativity at the level of the equations of motion where attempts are made to study the extensions of this form of gravity and to describe more general functions of the torsion scalar $T$. One of these extensions is $f(T,ϕ)$ gravity; $T$ and $ϕ$ respectively denote the torsion scalar and scalar field. In this work, the dynamical system analysis has been performed for this class of theories to obtain the cosmological behaviour of a number of models. Two models are presented here with some functional form of the torsion scalar and the critical points are obtained. For each critical point, the stability behaviour and the corresponding cosmology are shown. Through the graphical representation the equation of state parameter and the density parameters for matter-dominated, radiation-dominated and dark energy phase are also presented for both the models.

Dynamical features of $f(T,B)$ cosmology

In this paper, we have explored the field equations of $f(T,B)$ gravity and determined the dynamical parameters with the hyperbolic function of Hubble parameter. The accelerating behavior has been observed and the behavior of equation of state parameter indicates $ΛCDM$ model at late time. The role of model parameters in assessing the accelerating behavior has been emphasized. Interestingly the term containing $β$, the coefficient of boundary term, in the model parameter vanishes during the simplification. The scalar perturbation has been presented to show the stability of the model.

Dynamical Stability Analysis of Accelerating f(T) Gravity Models

In this paper, we have emphasized the stability analysis of the accelerating cosmological models obtained in $f(T)$ gravity theory. The behavior of the models based on the evolution of the equation of state parameter shows phantom-like behavior at the present epoch. The scalar perturbation technique is used to create the perturbed evolution equations, and the stability of the models has been demonstrated. Also, we have performed the dynamical system analysis for both the models. In the two specific $f(T)$ gravity models, three critical points are obtained in each model. In each model, at least one critical point has been observed to be stable.

Dynamical system analysis for accelerating models in non-metricity $f(Q)$ gravity

Two accelerating cosmological models are presented in symmetric teleparallel $f(Q)$ gravity, $Q$ be the non-metricity. The models are constructed based on the assumptions of two different functional forms of $f(Q)$ and a dynamically changing nature of the deceleration parameter that shows transition at $t=2n\pm\sqrt{\frac{4n^2+1}{3}}$, $n$ being a positive constant. In both the models, the equation of state parameter for the dark energy in $f(Q)$ gravity becomes a dynamical quantity and crosses the phantom divide line. The violation of the strong energy condition and the null energy condition at late times are also established. In addition, the dynamical system analysis has been performed and three critical points in each model are identified. In each model, at least one stable node has been observed. To strengthen further, the stability analysis using homogeneous linear perturbations has been performed to ensure the stability of the models.

f(R) wormholes embedded in a pseudo--Euclidean space $E^{5}$

This work is devoted to the study of analytic wormhole solutions within the framework of $f(R)$ gravity theory. To check the possibility of having wormhole structures satisfying energy conditions, by means of the class I approach the pair $\{Φ(r), b(r)\}$ describing the wormhole geometry has been obtained. Then, in conjunction with a remarkably $f(R)$ gravity model, the satisfaction of the null and weak energy conditions at the wormhole throat and its neighborhood is investigated. To do so, some constant parameters have been bounded restricting the space parameter. In this concern, the $f(R)$ gravity model and its derivatives are playing a major role, specially in considering the violation of the non--existence theorem. Furthermore, the shape function should be bounded from above by the Gronwall--Bellman shape function, where the red--shift function plays a relevant role. By analyzing the main properties at the spatial stations and tidal accelerations at the wormhole throat, possibilities and conditions for human travel are explored.

Role of Extended Gravity Theory in Matter Bounce Dynamics

In this work, we have studied some bouncing cosmologies in the frame work of $f(R,T)$ gravity. The bouncing scenario has been formulated to avoid the big bang singularity. The physical and geometrical parameters are investigated. The effect of the extended gravity theory on the dynamical parameters of the model is investigated. It is found that, the $f(R,T)$ gravity parameter affects the cosmic dynamics substantially. We have also, tested the model through the calculation of the cosmographic coefficients and the $Om(z)$ parameter. A scalar field reconstruction of the bouncing scenario is also carried out. The stability of the model are tested under linear, homogeneous and isotropic perturbations.

Teleparallel scalar-tensor gravity through cosmological dynamical systems

Scalar-tensor theories offer the prospect of explaining the cosmological evolution of the Universe through an effective description of dark energy as a quantity with a non-trivial evolution. In this work, we investigate this feature of scalar-tensor theories in the teleparallel gravity context. Teleparallel gravity is a novel description of geometric gravity as a torsional-rather than curvature-based quantity which presents a new foundational base for gravity. Our investigation is centered on the impact of a nontrivial input from the kinetic term of the scalar field. We consider a number of model settings in the context of the dynamical system to reveal their evolutionary behavior. We determine the critical points of these systems and discuss their dynamics.

Bouncing cosmology in extended gravity and its reconstruction as dark energy model

In this paper, we have presented a bouncing cosmological model of the Universe in an extended theory of gravity. The dynamical behaviour of the model obtained from the flat FLRW space-time along with the violation of null energy condition have been shown. The geometrical parameters show singularity behaviour at the bouncing epoch. The parameters involved in the scale factor play a major role in the bouncing behaviour. In addition, the coupling parameter that resulted in the minimal matter-geometry coupling in the extended gravity has significant role to avoid the singularity of equation of state parameter at the bouncing epoch. Using a linear homogeneous perturbation calculation, we show the stability of the model.

Cosmological model with time varying deceleration parameter in $F(R,G)$ gravity

In this paper, we study the dynamical behaviour of the Universe in the $F(R,G)$ theory of gravity, where $R$ and $G$ respectively denote the Ricci scalar and Gauss-Bonnet invariant. Our wide analysis encompasses the energy conditions, cosmographic parameters, $Om(z)$ diagnostic, stability and the viability of reconstructing the referred model through a scalar field formalism. The model obtained here shows the quintessence like behaviour at late times.

Cosmological models with Big rip and Pseudo rip Scenarios in extended theory of gravity

In this paper, we have presented the big rip and pseudo rip cosmological models in an extended theory of gravity. The matter field is considered to be that of perfect fluid. The geometrical parameters are adjusted in such a manner that it matches the prescriptions given by cosmological observations, to be specific to the range of Hubble tension $(H_{0})$. The models favor phantom behavior. The violation of strong energy conditions are shown in both the models, as it has become essential in an extended gravity. The representative values of the coupling parameter are significant on the evolution of the universe.

Effect of bulk viscosity in cosmic acceleration

In this paper, we have investigated the late time cosmic acceleration issue in the context of $f(R,T)$ gravity. The matter field is considered to be that of viscous fluid. The model has been framed as a mathematical formalism and the effect of viscous fluid on the cosmic expansion has been shown. The equation of state parameter indicates the quintessence behaviour of the Universe at late time. The theoretical results obtained here shows its alignment with the cosmological observations result.

Stability analysis of two-fluid dark energy models

In this paper, we have studied the stability of the cosmological models with dark energy and combination of matter fields and dark energy in an anisotropic space time. The pressure anisotropy along the spatial directions are derived and its stability in each direction has been examined. The four models presented here, show its stability on certain spatial direction. The role of matter field on the stability analysis has been obtained. The positive and negative value of cosmic string completely changed the stability behaviour of the model. The presence of a magnetic field disturbs the stability aspects of the models at least in an early epoch.

Traversable wormhole models in $f(R)$ gravity

In this work, we analyze the wormhole solutions in $f(R)$ gravity. Specifically we sought for wormhole geometry solutions for the following three shape functions: (i) $b(r)=r_{0}+ρ_{0}r_{0}^{3}\ln\left(\frac{r_{0}}{r}\right)$, (ii) $b(r)=r_{0}+γr_{0}\left(1-\dfrac{r_{0}}{r}\right)$, and (iii) $b(r)=α+βr$, under some legitimate physical conditions on the parameters as well as constants involved here with in the shape functions. It is observed from the graphical plots that the behaviour of the physical parameters are interesting and viable.

Gravastar under the framework of Braneworld Gravity

Gravastars have been considered as a serious alternative to black holes in the past couple of decades. Stable models of gravastar have been constructed in many of the alternate gravity models besides standard General Relativity (GR). The Randall-Sundrum (RS) braneworld model has been a popular alternative to GR, specially in the cosmological and astrophysical context. Here we consider a gravastar model in RS brane gravity. The mathematical solutions in different regions have been obtained along with calculation of matching conditions. Various important physical parameters for the shell have been calculated and plotted to see their variation with radial distance. We also calculate and plot the surface redshift to check the stability of the gravastar within the purview of RS brane gravity.

Investigating the physical and geometrical parameters of the cosmological models with anisotropic background

In this paper, we have investigated some accelerating cosmological models at the backdrop of an anisotropic metric in an extended gravity theory. Two viable cosmological models one with a little rip behaviour and the other with a hyperbolic form of Hubble parameter have been constructed. The dynamical aspects of the models along with some physical and geometrical parameters are analysed. Both the models presented here evolve in the phantom-like region and overlap with $Λ$CDM model at late times. We carried out a geometrical diagnosis of the model to show the viability of the models.

Magnetized cosmological model with variable deceleration parameter

In this paper, we have derived the field equations in an extended theory of gravity in an anisotropic space time background and in the presence of magnetic field. The physical and geometrical parameters of the models are determined with respect to the Hubble parameter using some algebraic approaches. A time varying scale factor has been introduced to analyze the behavior of the model. From some diagnostic approach, we found that the model behaves as $Λ_{CDM}$ model at late time of cosmic evolution.

Unified Dark Fluid and Cosmic Transit Models in Brans-Dicke Theory

Some dark energy cosmological models are constructed in the framework of a generalised Brans-Dicke theory which contains a self interacting potential and a dynamical coupling parameter. The dark sector of the universe is considered through a unified linear equation of state. The parameters of the unified dark fluid have been constrained from some physical basis. Since the universe is believed to have undergone a transition from an early deceleration to a late time acceleration, the deceleration parameter should have a signature flipping behaviour at the transition redshift. We have used a hybrid scale factor to simulate the dynamical behaviour of the deceleration parameter. Basing upon the observational constraints on the transition redshift, we have constructed four different transitioning dark energy models. The constructed models are confronted with observational data. For all the models, the behaviour of the dynamical scalar field, Brans-Dicke parameter, Self interacting potential are investigated. Also, on the basis of the generalised Brans-Dicke theory, we have estimated the time variation of the Newtonian gravitational constant.

Axially magnetized Dark Energy cosmological model

We investigate the behaviour of the skewness parameters for an anisotropic universe in the framework of General Relativity. Non interacting dark energy is considered in presence of electromagnetic field. A time varying deceleration parameter simulated by a hybrid scale factor is considered. The dynamics of the universe is investigated in presence and absence of magnetic field. The equation of state parameter of dark energy evolves within the range predicted by the observations. Magnetic field is observed to have a substantial effect on the cosmic dynamics and the skewness parameters. The models discussed here end in a big rip and become isotropic at finite time.

Three-dimensional, global, radiative GRMHD simulations of a thermally unstable disc

We present results of a set of three-dimensional, general relativistic radiation magnetohydrodynamics simulations of thin accretion discs around a non-rotating black hole to test their thermal stability. We consider two cases, one that is initially radiation pressure dominated and expected to be thermally unstable and another that is initially gas-pressure dominated and expected to remain stable. Indeed, we find that cooling dominates over heating in the radiation pressure dominated model, causing the disc to collapse vertically on roughly the local cooling timescale. We also find that heating and cooling within the disc have a different dependence on the mid-plane pressure, a prerequisite of thermal instability. Comparison of our data with the relevant thin-disc thermal equilibrium curve suggests that our disc may be headed for the thermally stable, gas-pressure-dominated branch. However, because the disc collapses to the point that we are no longer able to resolve it, we had to terminate the simulation. On the other hand, the gas pressure dominated model, which was run for twice as long as the radiation pressure dominated one, remains stable, with heating and cooling roughly in balance. Finally, the radiation pressure dominated simulation shows some evidence of viscous instability. The strongest evidence is in plots of surface density, which show the disc breaking up into rings.

Frequency spectrum of axisymmetric horizontal oscillations in accretion disks

We present the spectrum of eigenfrequencies of axisymmetric acoustic-inertial oscillations of thin accretion disks for a Schwarzschild black hole modeled with a pseudo-potential. There are nine discrete frequencies, corresponding to trapped modes. Eigenmodes with nine or more radial nodes in the inner disk belong to the continuum, whose frequency range starts somewhat below the maximum value of the radial epicyclic frequency. The results are derived under the assumption that the oscillatory motion is parallel to the midplane of the disk.

A Riemannian approach to low-rank algebraic Riccati equations

We propose a Riemannian optimization approach for computing low-rank solutions of the algebraic Riccati equation. The scheme alternates between fixed-rank optimization and rank-one updates. The fixed-rank optimization is on the set of fixed-rank symmetric positive definite matrices which is endowed with a particular Riemannian metric (and geometry) that is tuned to the structure of the objective function. We specifically discuss the implementation of a Riemannian trust-region algorithm that is potentially scalable to large-scale problems. The rank-one update is based on a descent direction that ensures a monotonic decrease of the cost function. Preliminary numerical results on standard small-scale benchmarks show that we obtain solutions to the Riccati equation at lower ranks than the standard approaches.

Eigenmodes of trapped horizontal oscillations in accretion disks

We present eigenfrequencies and eigenfunctions of trapped acoustic-inertial oscillations of thin accretion disks for a Schwarzschild black hole and a rapidly rotating Newtonian star (a Maclaurin spheroid). The results are derived in the formalism of Nowak and Wagoner (1991) with the assumption that the oscillatory motion is parallel to the midplane of the disk. The first four radial modes for each of five azimuthal modes $m = 0$ through $m = 4$ are presented. The frequencies and wavefunctions of the lowest modes may be accurately approximated by the Airy function.

Geometrically thin accretion disk around Maclaurin spheroid

We investigated a semi-analytic and numerical model to study the geometrically thin and optically thick accretion disk around Maclaurin spheroid (MS). The main interest is in the inner region of the so called α-disk, α being the viscosity parameter. Analytical calculations are done assuming radiation pressure and gas pressure dominated for close to Eddington mass accretion rate and $\dot{M}\lesssim 0.1\dot{M_{Edd}}$ respectively. We found that the change in eccentricity of MS gives a change at high frequency region in the emitted spectra. We found that disk parameters are dependent on eccentricity of MS. Our semi-analytic results show that qualitatively an increase in eccentricity of MS has same behavior as decrease in mass accretion rate. Numerical work has been carried out to see the viscous time evolution of the accretion disk around MS. In numerical model we showed that if the eccentricity of the object is high the matter will diffuse slowly during its viscous evolution. This gives a clue that how spin-up or spin-down can change the time evolution of the accretion disk using a simple Newtonian approach. The change in spectra can be used to determine the eccentricity of MS and thus period of the MS.

Kaluza-Klein cosmological model in $f(R,T)$ gravity with $Λ(T)$

A class of Kaluza-Klein cosmological models in $f(R,T)$ theory of gravity have been investigated. In the work, we have considered the functional $f(R,T)$ to be in the form $f(R,T)=f(R)+f(T)$ with $f(R)=λR$ and $f(T)=λT$. Such a choice of the functional $f(R,T)$ leads to an evolving effective cosmological constant $Λ$ which depends on the stress energy tensor. The source of the matter field is taken to be a perfect cosmic fluid. The exact solutions of the field equations are obtained by considering a constant deceleration parameter which leads two different aspects of the volumetric expansion namely a power law and an exponential volumetric expansion. Keeping an eye on the accelerating nature of the universe in the present epoch, the dynamics and physical behaviour of the models have been discussed. From statefinder diagnostic pair we found that the model with exponential volumetric expansion behaves more like a $Λ$CDM model.

R3MC: A Riemannian three-factor algorithm for low-rank matrix completion

We exploit the versatile framework of Riemannian optimization on quotient manifolds to develop R3MC, a nonlinear conjugate-gradient method for low-rank matrix completion. The underlying search space of fixed-rank matrices is endowed with a novel Riemannian metric that is tailored to the least-squares cost. Numerical comparisons suggest that R3MC robustly outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms across different problem instances, especially those that combine scarcely sampled and ill-conditioned data.

Fixed-rank matrix factorizations and Riemannian low-rank optimization

Motivated by the problem of learning a linear regression model whose parameter is a large fixed-rank non-symmetric matrix, we consider the optimization of a smooth cost function defined on the set of fixed-rank matrices. We adopt the geometric framework of optimization on Riemannian quotient manifolds. We study the underlying geometries of several well-known fixed-rank matrix factorizations and then exploit the Riemannian quotient geometry of the search space in the design of a class of gradient descent and trust-region algorithms. The proposed algorithms generalize our previous results on fixed-rank symmetric positive semidefinite matrices, apply to a broad range of applications, scale to high-dimensional problems and confer a geometric basis to recent contributions on the learning of fixed-rank non-symmetric matrices. We make connections with existing algorithms in the context of low-rank matrix completion and discuss relative usefulness of the proposed framework. Numerical experiments suggest that the proposed algorithms compete with the state-of-the-art and that manifold optimization offers an effective and versatile framework for the design of machine learning algorithms that learn a fixed-rank matrix.

Low-rank optimization for distance matrix completion

This paper addresses the problem of low-rank distance matrix completion. This problem amounts to recover the missing entries of a distance matrix when the dimension of the data embedding space is possibly unknown but small compared to the number of considered data points. The focus is on high-dimensional problems. We recast the considered problem into an optimization problem over the set of low-rank positive semidefinite matrices and propose two efficient algorithms for low-rank distance matrix completion. In addition, we propose a strategy to determine the dimension of the embedding space. The resulting algorithms scale to high-dimensional problems and monotonically converge to a global solution of the problem. Finally, numerical experiments illustrate the good performance of the proposed algorithms on benchmarks.

Low-rank optimization with trace norm penalty

The paper addresses the problem of low-rank trace norm minimization. We propose an algorithm that alternates between fixed-rank optimization and rank-one updates. The fixed-rank optimization is characterized by an efficient factorization that makes the trace norm differentiable in the search space and the computation of duality gap numerically tractable. The search space is nonlinear but is equipped with a particular Riemannian structure that leads to efficient computations. We present a second-order trust-region algorithm with a guaranteed quadratic rate of convergence. Overall, the proposed optimization scheme converges super-linearly to the global solution while maintaining complexity that is linear in the number of rows and columns of the matrix. To compute a set of solutions efficiently for a grid of regularization parameters we propose a predictor-corrector approach that outperforms the naive warm-restart approach on the fixed-rank quotient manifold. The performance of the proposed algorithm is illustrated on problems of low-rank matrix completion and multivariate linear regression.

Relativistic effects on coronal ejection in variable X-ray sources

Optically thin coronae around neutron stars suffering an X-ray burst can be ejected as a result of rapid increase in stellar luminosity. In general relativity (GR), radiation pressure from the central luminous star counteracts gravitational attraction more strongly than in Newtonian physics. However, motion near the neutron star is very effectively impeded by the radiation field. We discuss coronal ejection in a general relativistic calculation of the motion of a test particle in a spherically symmetric radiation field. At every radial distance from the star larger than that of the ISCO, and any initial luminosity of the star, there exists a luminosity change which leads to coronal ejection. The luminosity required to eject from the system the inner parts of the optically thin neutron-star corona is very high in the presence of radiation drag and always close to the Eddington luminosity. Outer parts of the corona, at a distance of ~20 $R_G$ or more, will be ejected by a sub-Eddington outburst. Mildly fluctuating luminosity will lead to dissipation in the plasma and may explain the observed X-ray temperatures of coronae in low mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs). At large radial distances from the star ($3\cdot 10^3 R_G$ or more) the results do not depend on whether or not Poynting-Robertson drag is included in the calculation.

A Riemannian geometry for low-rank matrix completion

We propose a new Riemannian geometry for fixed-rank matrices that is specifically tailored to the low-rank matrix completion problem. Exploiting the degree of freedom of a quotient space, we tune the metric on our search space to the particular least square cost function. At one level, it illustrates in a novel way how to exploit the versatile framework of optimization on quotient manifold. At another level, our algorithm can be considered as an improved version of LMaFit, the state-of-the-art Gauss-Seidel algorithm. We develop necessary tools needed to perform both first-order and second-order optimization. In particular, we propose gradient descent schemes (steepest descent and conjugate gradient) and trust-region algorithms. We also show that, thanks to the simplicity of the cost function, it is numerically cheap to perform an exact linesearch given a search direction, which makes our algorithms competitive with the state-of-the-art on standard low-rank matrix completion instances.
