A macro placer algorithm for chip design

There is a set of rectangular macros with given dimensions, and there are wires connecting some pairs (or sets) of them. We have a placement area where these macros should be placed without overlaps in order to minimize the total length of wires. We present a heuristic algorithm which utilizes a special data structure for representing two dimensional stepfunctions. This results in fast integral computation and function modification over rectangles. Our heuristics, especially our data structure for two-dimensional functions, may be useful in other applications, as well.

Finite Permutable Putcha Semigroups

A semigroup $S$ is called a permutable semigroup if $α\circ β=β\circ α$ is satified for all congruences $α$ and $β$ of $S$. A semigroup is called a Putcha semigroup if it is a semilattice of archimedean semigroups. In this paper we deal with finite permutable Putcha semigroups. We describe the finite permutable archimedean semigroups and finite permutable semigroups which are semilattices of a group and a nilpotent semigroup.

Limits of Random Trees

Local convergence of bounded degree graphs was introduced by Benjamini and Schramm. This result was extended further by Lyons to bounded average degree graphs. In this paper, we study the convergence of a random tree sequence where the probability of a given tree is proportional to $\prod_{v_i\in V(T)}d(v_i)!$. We show that this sequence is convergent and describe the limit object, which is a random infinite rooted tree.

Limits of Random Trees II

Local convergence of bounded degree graphs was introduced by Benjamini and Schramm. This result was extended further by Lyons to bounded average degree graphs. In this paper we study the convergence of random tree sequences with given degree distributions. Denote by ${\cal D}_n$ the set of possible degree sequences of a tree on $n$ nodes. Let ${\bm D}_n$ be a random variable on ${\cal D}_n$ and ${\bm T}({\bm D}_n)$ be a uniform random tree with degree sequence ${\bm D}_n$. We show that the sequence ${\bm T}({\bm D}_n)$ converges in probability if and only if ${\bm D}_n\to {\bm D}=({\bm D}(i))_{i=1}^\infty$, where ${\bm D}(i)\sim {\bm D}(j)$, $\mathds{E}({\bm D}(1))=2$ and ${\bm D}(1)$ is a random variable on $\mathds{N}^+$.

On a Problem of A. Nagy

If the congruences of a semigroup are commutative, we say that the semigroup is permutable. In a previous paper, A. Nagy showed that every permutable semigroup satisfying an arbitrary non-trivial permutation identity is medial or an ideal extension of a rectangular band by a non-trivial commutative nil semigroup. The author raised the following problem: Is every permutable semigroup satisfying a non-trivial permutation identity medial? In present paper we give a positive answer for this problem.
