Real-Time Gaze Tracking with Event-Driven Eye Segmentation

Gaze tracking is increasingly becoming an essential component in Augmented and Virtual Reality. Modern gaze tracking al gorithms are heavyweight; they operate at most 5 Hz on mobile processors despite that near-eye cameras comfortably operate at a r eal-time rate ($>$ 30 Hz). This paper presents a real-time eye tracking algorithm that, on average, operates at 30 Hz on a mobile processor, achieves \ang{0.1}--\ang{0.5} gaze accuracies, all the while requiring only 30K parameters, one to two orders of magn itude smaller than state-of-the-art eye tracking algorithms. The crux of our algorithm is an Auto~ROI mode, which continuously pr edicts the Regions of Interest (ROIs) of near-eye images and judiciously processes only the ROIs for gaze estimation. To that end, we introduce a novel, lightweight ROI prediction algorithm by emulating an event camera. We discuss how a software emulation of events enables accurate ROI prediction without requiring special hardware. The code of our paper is available at https://github.com/horizon-research/edgaze.

Structured Q-learning For Antibody Design

Optimizing combinatorial structures is core to many real-world problems, such as those encountered in life sciences. For example, one of the crucial steps involved in antibody design is to find an arrangement of amino acids in a protein sequence that improves its binding with a pathogen. Combinatorial optimization of antibodies is difficult due to extremely large search spaces and non-linear objectives. Even for modest antibody design problems, where proteins have a sequence length of eleven, we are faced with searching over 2.05 x 10^14 structures. Applying traditional Reinforcement Learning algorithms such as Q-learning to combinatorial optimization results in poor performance. We propose Structured Q-learning (SQL), an extension of Q-learning that incorporates structural priors for combinatorial optimization. Using a molecular docking simulator, we demonstrate that SQL finds high binding energy sequences and performs favourably against baselines on eight challenging antibody design tasks, including designing antibodies for SARS-COV.

Algorithms and Identities for B$\acute{e}$zier curves via Post Quantum Blossom

In this paper, a new analogue of blossom based on post quantum calculus is introduced. The post quantum blossom has been adapted for developing identities and algorithms for Bernstein bases and B$\acute{e}$zier curves. By applying the post quantum blossom, various new identities and formulae expressing the monomials in terms of the post quantun Bernstein basis functions and a post quantun variant of Marsden's identity are investigated. For each post quantum B$\acute{e}$zier curves of degree $m,$ a collection of $m!$ new, affine invariant, recursive evaluation algorithms are derived.

Experimental Observation of High Intrinsic Thermal Conductivity of AlN

AlN is an ultra-wide bandgap semiconductor which has been developed for applications including power electronics and optoelectronics. Thermal management of these applications is the key for stable device performance and allowing for long lifetimes. AlN, with its potentially high thermal conductivity, can play an important role serving as a dielectric layer, growth substrate, and heat spreader to improve device performance. However, the intrinsic high thermal conductivity of bulk AlN predicted by theoretical calculations has not been experimentally observed because of the difficulty in producing materials with low vacancy and impurity levels, and other associated defect complexes in AlN which can decrease the thermal conductivity. This work reports the growth of thick AlN layers by MOCVD with an air-pocketed AlN layer and the first experimental observation of intrinsic thermal conductivity from 130 K to 480 K that matches density-function-theory calculations for single crystal AlN, producing some of the highest values ever measured. Detailed material characterizations confirm the high quality of these AlN samples with one or two orders of magnitude lower impurity concentrations than seen in commercially available bulk AlN. Measurements of these commercially available bulk AlN substrates from 80 K to 480 K demonstrated a lower thermal conductivity, as expected. A theoretical thermal model is built to interpret the measured temperature dependent thermal conductivity. Our work demonstrates that it is possible to obtain theoretically high values of thermal conductivity in AlN and such films may impact the thermal management and reliability of future electronic and optoelectronics devices.

Approximation by Meyer-Konig and Zeller Operators using (p, q)-CALCULUS

In this paper, we introduce a generalization of the $q$-Meyer-Konig and Zeller operators by means of the $(p,q)$-integers as well as of the $(p,q)$-Gaussian binomial coefficients. For $ 0< q < p <= 1,$ the sequence of the $(p,q)$-Meyer-Konig and Zeller operators denoted by $M_n,p,q$ and some results based on statistical convergence and direct theorems is obtained. Furthermore, we show comparisons and some illustrative graphics for the convergence of operators to a function.

Some Approximation Results by $(p,q)$-analogue of Bernstein-Stancu Operators (Revised)

In this paper, we have given a corrigendum to our paper "Some Approximation Results by $(p,q)$-analogue of Bernstein-Stancu Operators" published in Applied Mathematics and Computation $264 (2015) 392-402.$ We introduce a new analogue of Bernstein-Stancu operators and we call it as $(p,q)$-Bernstein-Stancu operators. We study approximation properties based on Korovkin's type approximation theorem of $(p,q)$-Bernstein-Stancu operators. We also establish some direct theorems.

Some approximation results by Bernstein-Kantorovich operators based on (p,q)-integers

In this paper, First we have given the modified form of (p,q)-analogues of Bernstein and Bernstein operators [21-23] and then we introduce a new analogue of Bernstein-Kantorovich operators which we call as (p,q)-Bernstein-Kantorovich operators. We discuss approximation properties for these operators based on Korovkin's type approximation theorem and we compute the order of convergence using usual modulus of continuity and also the rate of convergence when f is a Lipschitz function. Moreover, we also study the local approximation property of the (p,q)-Kantorovich operators . We show comparisons and some illustrative graphics for the convergence of operators to a function. In comparison to q-analogoue of Bernstein-Kantorovich operators, our generalization gives more flexibility for the convergence of operators to a function.

Approximation by (p,q)-Lorentz polynomials on a compact disk

In this paper, we introduce a new analogue of Lorentz polynomials based on (p,q)-integers and we call it as (p,q)-Lorentz polynomials. We obtain quantitative estimate in the Voronovskaja's type thoerem and exact orders in simultaneous approximation by the complex (p,q)-Lorentz polynomials of degree n, where q > p > 1 attached to analytic functions in compact disks of the complex plane.

Approximation by a Kantorovich type q-Bernstein-Stancu operators

In this paper, we introduce a Kantorovich type generalization of q-Bernstein-Stancu operators. We study the convergence of the introduced operators and also obtain the rate of convergence by these operators in terms of the modulus of continuity. Further, we study local approximation property and Voronovskaja type theorem for the said operators. We show comparisons and some illustrative graphics for the convergence of operators to a certain function.

Stability of Some Positive Linear Operators on Compact Disk

Recently, Popa and Rasa [18,19] have shown the (in)stability of some classical operators defined on [0,1] and found best constant when the positive linear operators are stable in the sense of Hyers-Ulam. In this paper we show Hyers-Ulam (in)stability of complex Bernstein-Schurer operators, complex Kantrovich-Schurer operators and Lorentz operators on compact disk. In the case when the operator is stable in the sense of Hyers and Ulam, we find the infimum of Hyers-Ulam stability constants for respective operators.
