Stability conditions in families

We develop a theory of Bridgeland stability conditions and moduli spaces of semistable objects for a family of varieties. Our approach is based on and generalizes previous work by Abramovich-Polishchuk, Kuznetsov, Lieblich, and Piyaratne-Toda. Our notion includes openness of stability, semistable reduction, a support property uniformly across the family, and boundedness of semistable objects. We show that such a structure exists whenever stability conditions are known to exist on the fibers. Our main application is the generalization of Mukai's theory for moduli spaces of semistable sheaves on K3 surfaces to moduli spaces of Bridgeland semistable objects in the Kuznetsov component associated to a cubic fourfold. This leads to the extension of theorems by Addington-Thomas and Huybrechts on the derived category of special cubic fourfolds, to a new proof of the integral Hodge conjecture, and to the construction of an infinite series of unirational locally complete families of polarized hyperkähler manifolds of K3 type. Other applications include the deformation-invariance of Donaldson-Thomas invariants counting Bridgeland stable objects on Calabi-Yau threefolds, and a method for constructing stability conditions on threefolds via degeneration.

Nef divisors for moduli spaces of complexes with compact support

In [BM14b], the first author and Macrì constructed a family of nef divisors on any moduli space of Bridgeland-stable objects on a smooth projective variety X. In this article, we extend this construction to the setting of any separated scheme Y of finite type over a field, where we consider moduli spaces of Bridgeland-stable objects on Y with compact support. We also show that the nef divisor is compatible with the polarising ample line bundle coming from the GIT construction of the moduli space in the special case when Y admits a tilting bundle and the stability condition arises from a θ-stability condition for the endomorphism algebra. Our main tool generalises the work of Abramovich--Polishchuk [AP06] and Polishchuk [Pol07]: given a t-structure on the derived category D_c(Y) on Y of objects with compact support and a base scheme S, we construct a constant family of t-structures on a category of objects on YxS with compact support relative to S.

The Space of Stability Conditions on Abelian Threefolds, and on some Calabi-Yau Threefolds

We describe a connected component of the space of stability conditions on abelian threefolds, and on Calabi-Yau threefolds obtained as (the crepant resolution of) a finite quotient of an abelian threefold. Our proof includes the following essential steps: 1. We simultaneously strengthen a conjecture by the first two authors and Toda, and prove that it follows from a more natural and seemingly weaker statement. This conjecture is a Bogomolov-Gieseker type inequality involving the third Chern character of "tilt-stable" two-term complexes on smooth projective threefolds; we extend it from complexes of tilt-slope zero to arbitrary tilt-slope. 2. We show that this stronger conjecture implies the so-called support property of Bridgeland stability conditions, and the existence of an explicit open subset of the space of stability conditions. 3. We prove our conjecture for abelian threefolds, thereby giving reproving and generalizing a result by Maciocia and Piyaratne. Important in our approach is a more systematic understanding on the behaviour of quadratic inequalities for semistable objects under wall-crossing, closely related to the support property.

Wall-Crossing implies Brill-Noether. Applications of stability conditions on surfaces

Over the last few years, wall-crossing for Bridgeland stability conditions has led to a large number of results in algebraic geometry, particular on birational geometry of moduli spaces. We illustrate some of the methods behind these result by reproving Lazarsfeld's Brill-Noether theorem for curves on K3 surfaces via wall-crossing. We conclude with a survey of recent applications of stability conditions on surfaces. The intended reader is an algebraic geometer with a limited working knowledge of derived categories. This article is based on the author's talk at the AMS Summer Institute on Algebraic Geometry in Utah, July 2015.

Projectivity and Birational Geometry of Bridgeland moduli spaces

We construct a family of nef divisor classes on every moduli space of stable complexes in the sense of Bridgeland. This divisor class varies naturally with the Bridgeland stability condition. For a generic stability condition on a K3 surface, we prove that this class is ample, thereby generalizing a result of Minamide, Yanagida, and Yoshioka. Our result also gives a systematic explanation of the relation between wall-crossing for Bridgeland-stability and the minimal model program for the moduli space. We give three applications of our method for classical moduli spaces of sheaves on a K3 surface: 1. We obtain a region in the ample cone in the moduli space of Gieseker-stable sheaves only depending on the lattice of the K3. 2. We determine the nef cone of the Hilbert scheme of n points on a K3 surface of Picard rank one when n is large compared to the genus. 3. We verify the "Hassett-Tschinkel/Huybrechts/Sawon" conjecture on the existence of a birational Lagrangian fibration for the Hilbert scheme in a new family of cases.

Bridgeland Stability conditions on threefolds I: Bogomolov-Gieseker type inequalities

We construct new t-structures on the derived category of coherent sheaves on smooth projective threefolds. We conjecture that they give Bridgeland stability conditions near the large volume limit. We show that this conjecture is equivalent to a Bogomolov-Gieseker type inequality for the third Chern character of certain stable complexes. We also conjecture a stronger inequality, and prove it in the case of projective space, and for various examples. Finally, we prove a version of the classical Bogomolov-Gieseker inequality, not involving the third Chern character, for stable complexes.

Polynomial Bridgeland stability conditions and the large volume limit

We introduce the notion of a polynomial stability condition, generalizing Bridgeland stability conditions on triangulated categories. We construct and study a family of polynomial stability conditions for any normal projective variety. This family includes both Simpson-stability, and large volume limits of Bridgeland stability conditions. We show that the PT/DT-correspondence relating stable pairs to Donaldson-Thomas invariants (conjectured by Pandharipande and Thomas) can be understood as a wall-crossing in our family of polynomial stability conditions. Similarly, we show that the relation between stable pairs and invariants of one-dimensional torsion sheaves (proven recently by the same authors) is a wall-crossing formula.

Quantum cohomology of [C^N/μ_r]

We give a construction of the moduli space of stable maps to the classifying stack Bμ_r of a cyclic group by a sequence of r-th root constructions on M_{0, n}. We prove a closed formula for the total Chern class of μ_r-eigenspaces of the Hodge bundle, and thus of the obstruction bundle of the genus zero Gromov-Witten theory of stacks of the form [C^N/μ_r]. We deduce linear recursions for all genus-zero Gromov-Witten invariants.

Stability Conditions, Wall-crossing and weighted Gromov-Witten Invariants

We extend B. Hassett's theory of weighted stable pointed curves ([Has03]) to weighted stable maps. The space of stability conditions is described explicitly, and the wall-crossing phenomenon studied. This can be considered as a non-linear analog of the theory of stability conditions in abelian and triangulated categories. We introduce virtual fundamental classes and thus obtain weighted Gromov-Witten invariants. We show that by including gravitational descendants, one obtains an $\LL$-algebra as introduced in [LM04] as a generalization of a cohomological field theory.

(Semi)simple exercises in quantum cohomology

The paper is dedicated to the study of algebraic manifolds whose quantum cohomology or a part of it is a semisimple Frobenius manifold. Theorem 1.8.1 says, roughly speaking, that the sum of $(p,p)$--cohomology spaces is a maximal Frobenius submanifold that has chances to be semisimple. Theorem 1.8.3 provides a version of the Reconstruction theorem, assuming semisimplicity but not $H^2$--generation. Theorem 3.6.1 establishes the semisimplicity for all del Pezzo surfaces, providing an evidence for the conjecture that semisimplicity is related to the existence of a full system of exceptional sheaves of the appropriate length. Finally, in §2 we calculate special coordinates for three families of Fano threefolds with minimal cohomology.
