Capacities and density conditions in metric spaces

We examine the relations between different capacities in the setting of a metric measure space. First, we prove a comparability result for the Riesz $(β,p)$-capacity and the relative Hajlasz $(β,p)$-capacity, for $1<p<\infty$ and $0<β\le 1$, under a suitable kernel estimate related to the Riesz potential. Then we show that in geodesic spaces the corresponding capacity density conditions are equivalent even without assuming the kernel estimate. In the last part of the paper, we compare the relative Hajlasz $(1,p)$-capacity to the relative variational $p$-capacity.

On the BBM-phenomenon in fractional Poincaré-Sobolev inequalities with weights

In this paper we unify and improve some of the results of Bourgain, Brezis and Mironescu and the weighted Poincaré-Sobolev estimate by Fabes, Kenig and Serapioni. More precisely, we get weighted counterparts of the Poincaré-Sobolev type inequality and also of the Hardy type inequality in the fractional case under some mild natural restrictions. A main feature of the results we obtain is the fact that we keep track of the behaviour of the constants involved when the fractional parameter approaches to $1$. Our main method is based on techniques coming from harmonic analysis related to the self-improving property of generalized Poincaré inequalities.

Self-improvement of weighted pointwise inequalities on open sets

We prove a general self-improvement property for a family of weighted pointwise inequalities on open sets, including pointwise Hardy inequalities with distance weights. For this purpose we introduce and study the classes of $p$-Poincaré and $p$-Hardy weights for an open set $Ω\subset X$, where $X$ is a metric measure space. We also apply the self-improvement of weighted pointwise Hardy inequalities in connection with usual integral versions of Hardy inequalities.

Weighted norm inequalities in a bounded domain by the sparse domination method

We prove a local two-weight Poincaré inequality for cubes using the sparse domination method that has been influential in harmonic analysis. The proof involves a localized version of the Fefferman--Stein inequality for the sharp maximal function. By establishing a local-to-global result in a bounded domain satisfying a Boman chain condition, we show a two-weight $p$-Poincaré inequality in such domains. As an application we show that certain nonnegative supersolutions of the $p$-Laplace equation and distance weights are $p$-admissible in a bounded domain, in the sense that they support versions of the $p$-Poincaré inequality.

Beyond local maximal operators

We obtain (essentially sharp) boundedness results for certain generalized local maximal operators between fractional weighted Sobolev spaces and their modifications. Concrete boundedness results between well known fractional Sobolev spaces are derived as consequences of our main result. We also apply our boundedness results by studying both generalized neighbourhood capacities and the Lebesgue differentiation of fractional weighted Sobolev functions.

In between the inequalities of Sobolev and Hardy

We establish both sufficient and necessary conditions for the validity of the so-called Hardy-Sobolev inequalities on open sets of the Euclidean space. These inequalities form a natural interpolating scale between the (weighted) Sobolev inequalities and the (weighted) Hardy inequalities. The Assouad dimension of the complement of the open set turns out to play an important role in both sufficient and necessary conditions.

Poincaré inequalities in quasihyperbolic boundary condition domains

We study the validity of (q,p)-Poincaré inequalities, q<p, on domains in R^n which satisfy a quasihyperbolic boundary condition, i.e. domains whose quasihyperbolic metric satisfies a logarithmic growth condition. In the present paper, we show that the quasihyperbolic boundary condition domains support a (q,p)-Poincaré inequality whenever p>p_0, where p_0 is an explicit constant depending on q, on the logarithmic growth condition, and on the boundary of the domain.

Self-improvement of uniform fatness revisited

We give a new proof for the self-improvement of uniform p-fatness in the setting of general metric spaces. Our proof is based on rather standard methods of geometric analysis, and in particular the proof avoids the use of deep results from potential theory and analysis on metric spaces that have been indispensable in the previous proofs of the self-improvement. A key ingredient in the proof is a self-improvement property for local Hardy inequalities.

Fractional Hardy inequalities and visibility of the boundary

We prove fractional order Hardy inequalities on open sets under a combined fatness and visibility condition on the boundary. We demonstrate by counterexamples that fatness conditions alone are not sufficient for such Hardy inequalities to hold. In addition, we give a short exposition of various fatness conditions related to our main result, and apply fractional Hardy inequalities in connection to the boundedness of extension operators for fractional Sobolev spaces.

On improved fractional Sobolev-Poincaré inequalities

We prove a certain improved fractional Sobolev-Poincaré inequality on John domains; the proof is based on the equivalence of the corresponding weak and strong type inequalities. We also give necessary conditions for the validity of an improved fractional Sobolev-Poincaré inequality, in particular, we show that a domain having a finite measure and satisfying this inequality, and a `separation property', is a John domain.

On the Local $Tb$ Theorem: A Direct Proof under Duality Assumption

We give a direct proof of the local $Tb$ Theorem, in the Euclidean setting, and under the assumption of dual exponents. This Theorem provides a flexible framework for proving the boundedness of a Calderón-Zygmund operator, supposing the existence of systems of local accretive functions. We assume that the integrability exponents on these systems of functions are of the form $1/p+1/q\le 1$, and provide a direct proof. The principal point of interest is in the use of random grids and the corresponding construction of the corona. We also utilize certain twisted martingale transform inequalities.

The local non-homogeneous Tb theorem for vector-valued functions

We extend the local non-homogeneous Tb theorem of Nazarov, Treil and Volberg to the setting of singular integrals with operator-valued kernel that act on vector-valued functions. Here, `vector-valued' means `taking values in a function lattice with the UMD (unconditional martingale differences) property'. A similar extension (but for general UMD spaces rather than UMD lattices) of Nazarov-Treil-Volberg's global non-homogeneous Tb theorem was achieved earlier by the first author, and it has found applications in the work of Mayboroda and Volberg on square-functions and rectifiability. Our local version requires several elaborations of the previous techniques, and raises new questions about the limits of the vector-valued theory.

The Perfect Local $ Tb$ Theorem and Twisted Martingale Transforms

A local Tb Theorem provides a flexible framework for proving the boundedness of a Calderón-Zygmund operator T. One needs only boundedness of the operator T on systems of locally pseudo-accretive functions \{b_Q\}, indexed by cubes. We give a new proof of this Theorem in the setting of perfect (dyadic) models of Calderón-Zygmund operators, imposing integrability conditions on the b_Q functions that are the weakest possible. The proof is a simple direct argument, based upon a new inequality for transforms of so-called twisted martingale differences.

A T1 theorem for weakly singular integral operators

We establish conditions in the spirit of the T1 theorem of David and Journé which guarantee the boundedness of \nabla T on L^p(\R^n), where T is an integral transformation and 1<p<\infty. These are natural size and regularity conditions for the kernel of the integral transformation, along with the sharp condition T1,T^t1\in\mathcal{I}^1(\mathrm{BMO}). A simple example satisfying these conditions is the Riesz potential denoted by \mathcal{I}^1.
