Control theorems for fine Selmer groups, and duality of fine Selmer groups attached to modular forms

Let $\mathcal{O}$ be the ring of integers of a finite extension of $\mathbb{Q}_p$. We prove two control theorems for fine Selmer groups of general cofinitely generated modules over $\mathcal{O}$. We apply these control theorems to compare the fine Selmer group attached to a modular form $f$ over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ to its counterpart attached to the conjugate modular form $\overline{f}$.

Studying Hilbert's 10th problem via explicit elliptic curves

N.García-Fritz and H.Pasten showed that Hilbert's 10th problem is unsolvable in the ring of integers of number fields of the form $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[3]{p},\sqrt{-q})$ for positive proportions of primes $p$ and $q$. We improve their proportions and extend their results to the case of number fields of the form $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt[3]{p},\sqrt{Dq})$, where $D$ belongs to an explicit family of positive square-free integers. We achieve this by using multiple elliptic curves, and replace their Iwasawa theory arguments by a more direct method.

The vanishing of anticyclotomic $μ$-invariants for non-ordinary modular forms

Let $K$ be an imaginary quadratic field where $p$ splits. We study signed Selmer groups for non-ordinary modular forms over the anticyclotomic $\mathbf{Z}_p$-extension of $K$, showing that their $μ$-invariants vanish. This generalizes and gives a new proof of a recent result of Matar on the vanishing of the $μ$-invariants of plus and minus signed Selmer groups for elliptic curves.

Arithmetic Statistics and noncommutative Iwasawa Theory

Let $p$ be an odd prime. Associated to a pair $(E, \mathcal{F}_\infty)$ consisting of a rational elliptic curve $E$ and a $p$-adic Lie extension $\mathcal{F}_\infty$ of $\mathbb{Q}$, is the $p$-primary Selmer group $Sel_{p^\infty}(E/\mathcal{F}_\infty)$ of $E$ over $\mathcal{F}_\infty$. In this paper, we study the arithmetic statistics for the algebraic structure of this Selmer group. The results provide insights into the asymptotics for the growth of Mordell--Weil ranks of elliptic curves in noncommutative towers.

Mordell-Weil ranks and Tate-Shafarevich groups of elliptic curves with mixed-reduction type over cyclotomic extensions

Let $E$ be an elliptic curve defined over a number field $K$ where $p$ splits completely. Suppose that $E$ has good reduction at all primes above $p$. Generalizing previous works of Kobayashi and Sprung, we define multiply signed Selmer groups over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of a finite extension $F$ of $K$ where $p$ is unramified. Under the hypothesis that the Pontryagin duals of these Selmer groups are torsion over the corresponding Iwasawa algebra, we show that the Mordell-Weil ranks of $E$ over a subextension of the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension are bounded. Furthermore, we derive an aysmptotic formula of the growth of the $p$-parts of the Tate-Shafarevich groups of $E$ over these extensions.

On analogues of Mazur-Tate type conjectures in the Rankin-Selberg setting

We study the Fitting ideals over the finite layers of the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ of Selmer groups attached to the Rankin--Selberg convolution of two modular forms $f$ and $g$. Inspired by the Theta elements for modular forms defined by Mazur and Tate in ``Refined conjectures of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer type'', we define new Theta elements for Rankin--Selberg convolutions of $f$ and $g$ using Loeffler--Zerbes' geometric $p$-adic $L$-functions attached to $f$ and $g$. Under certain technical hypotheses, we generalize a recent work of Kim--Kurihara on elliptic curves to prove a result very close to the \emph{weak main conjecture} of Mazur and Tate for Rankin--Selberg convolutions. Special emphasis is given to the case where $f$ corresponds to an elliptic curve $E$ and $g$ to a two dimensional odd irreducible Artin representation $ρ$ with splitting field $F$. As an application, we give an upper bound of the dimension of the $ρ$-isotypic component of the Mordell-Weil group of $E$ over the finite layers of the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $F$ in terms of the order of vanishing of our Theta elements.

On fine Selmer groups and signed Selmer groups of elliptic modular forms

Let $f$ be an elliptic modular form and $p$ an odd prime that is coprime to the level of $f$. We study the link between divisors of the characteristic ideal of the $p$-primary fine Selmer group of $f$ over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$ extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ and the greatest common divisor of signed Selmer groups attached to $f$ defined using the theory of Wach modules. One of the key ingredients of our proof is a generalization of a result of Wingberg on the structure of fine Selmer groups of abelian varieties with supersingular reduction at $p$ to the context of modular forms.

Akashi series and Euler characteristics of signed Selmer groups of elliptic curves with semistable reduction at primes above p

Let $p$ be an odd prime number, and let $E$ be an elliptic curve defined over a number field $F'$ such that $E$ has semistable reduction at every prime of $F'$ above $p$ and is supersingular at at least one prime above $p$. Under appropriate hypotheses, we compute the Akashi series of the signed Selmer groups of $E$ over a $\mathbb{Z}_p^d$-extension over a finite extension $F$ of $F'$. As a by-product, we also compute the Euler characteristics of these Selmer groups.

Codimension two cycles in Iwasawa theory and tensor product of Hida families

The purpose of this paper is to build on results in {\it{higher codimension Iwasawa theory}}. The setting of our results involves Galois representations arising as cyclotomic twist deformations associated to (i) the tensor product of two cuspidal Hida families $F$ and $G$, and (ii) the tensor product of three cuspidal Hida families $F$, $G$ and $H$. On the analytic side, we consider (i) a pair of $3$-variable Rankin-Selberg $p$-adic $L$-functions constructed by Hida and (ii) a balanced $4$-variable $p$-adic $L$-function (due to Hsieh and Yamana) and an unbalanced $4$-variable $p$-adic $L$-function (whose existence is currently conjectural). In each of these setups, when the two $p$-adic $L$-functions generate a height two ideal in the corresponding deformation ring, we use codimension two cycles of that ring to relate them to a pair of pseudo-null modules.

Integral Iwasawa theory of Galois representations for non-ordinary primes

In this paper, we study the Iwasawa theory of a motive whose Hodge-Tate weights are $0$ or $1$ (thence in practice, of a motive associated to an abelian variety) at a non-ordinary prime, over the cyclotomic tower of a number field that is either totally real or CM. In particular, under certain technical assumptions, we construct Sprung-type Coleman maps on the local Iwasawa cohomology groups and use them to define integral $p$-adic $L$-functions and (one unconditionally and other conjecturally) cotorsion Selmer groups. This allows us to reformulate Perrin-Riou's main conjecture in terms of these objects, in the same fashion as Kobayashi's $\pm$-Iwasawa theory for supersingular elliptic curves. By the aid of our theory of Coleman-adapted Kolyvagin systems that we develop here, we deduce parts of Perrin-Riou's main conjecture from an explicit reciprocity conjecture.

Euler systems for Rankin--Selberg convolutions of modular forms

We construct an Euler system in the cohomology of the tensor product of the Galois representations attached to two modular forms, using elements in the higher Chow groups of products of modular curves. We use this Euler system to prove a finiteness theorem for the strict Selmer group of the Galois representation when the associated p-adic Rankin--Selberg L-function is non-vanishing at s = 1.

Iwasawa theory for symmetric powers of CM modular forms at non-ordinary primes

Let f be a cuspidal newform with complex multiplication (CM) and let p be an odd prime at which f is non-ordinary. We construct admissible p-adic L-functions for the symmetric powers of f, thus verifying general conjectures of Dabrowski and Panchishkin in this special case. We also construct their "mixed" plus and minus counterparts and prove an analogue of Pollack's decomposition of the admissible p-adic L-functions into mixed plus and minus p-adic L-functions. On the arithmetic side, we define corresponding mixed plus and minus Selmer groups. We unite the arithmetic with the analytic by first formulating the Main Conjecture of Iwasawa Theory relating the plus and minus Selmer groups with the plus and minus p-adic L-functions, and then proving the exceptional zero conjecture for the admissible p-adic L-functions. The latter result takes advantage of recent work of Benois, while the former uses recent work of the second author, as well as the main conjecture of Mazur-Wiles.

Non-commutative p-adic L-functions for supersingular primes

Let E/Q be an elliptic curve with good supersingular reduction at p with a_p(E)=0. We give a conjecture on the existence of analytic plus and minus p-adic L-functions of E over the Zp-cyclotomic extension of a finite Galois extension of Q where p is unramified. Under some technical conditions, we adopt the method of Bouganis and Venjakob for p-ordinary CM elliptic curves to construct such functions for a particular non-abelian extension.

Critical slope p-adic L-functions of CM modular forms

For ordinary modular forms, there are two constructions of a p-adic L-function attached to the non-unit root of the Hecke polynomial, which are conjectured but not known to coincide. We prove this conjecture for modular forms of CM type, by calculating the the critical-slope L-function arising from Kato's Euler system and comparing this with results of Bellaiche on the critical-slope L-function defined using overconvergent modular symbols.

Iwasawa Theory for the Symmetric Square of a CM Modular Form at Inert Primes

Let f be a CM modular form and p an odd prime which is inert in the CM field. We construct two p-adic L-functions for the symmetric square of f, one of which has the same interpolating properties as the one constructed by Delbourgo-Dabrowski, whereas the second one has a similar interpolating properties but corresponds to a different eigenvalue of the Frobenius. The symmetry between these two p-adic L-functions allows us to define the plus and minus p-adic L-functions à la Pollack. We also define the plus and minus p-Selmer groups analogous to Kobayashi's Selmer groups. We explain how to relate these two sets of objects via a main conjecture.

Signed Selmer Groups over p-adic Lie Extensions

Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$ with good supersingular reduction at a prime $p\geq 3$ and $a_p=0$. We generalise the definition of Kobayashi's plus/minus Selmer groups over $\mathbb{Q}(μ_{p^\infty})$ to $p$-adic Lie extensions $K_\infty$ of $\mathbb{Q}$ containing $\mathbb{Q}(μ_{p^\infty})$, using the theory of $(ϕ,Γ)$-modules and Berger's comparison isomorphisms. We show that these Selmer groups can be equally described using the "jumping conditions" of Kobayashi via the theory of overconvergent power series. Moreover, we show that such an approach gives the usual Selmer groups in the ordinary case.

Coleman maps and the p-adic regulator

This paper is a sequel to our earlier paper "Wach modules and Iwasawa theory for modular forms" (arXiv: 0912.1263), where we defined a family of Coleman maps for a crystalline representation of the Galois group of Qp with nonnegative Hodge-Tate weights. In this paper, we study these Coleman maps using Perrin-Riou's p-adic regulator L_V. Denote by H(Γ) the algebra of Qp-valued distributions on Γ= Gal(Qp(μ(p^\infty) / Qp). Our first result determines the H(Γ)-elementary divisors of the quotient of D_{cris}(V) \otimes H(Γ) by the H(Γ)-submodule generated by (ϕ* N(V))^{ψ= 0}, where N(V) is the Wach module of V. By comparing the determinant of this map with that of L_V (which can be computed via Perrin-Riou's explicit reciprocity law), we obtain a precise description of the images of the Coleman maps. In the case when V arises from a modular form, we get some stronger results about the integral Coleman maps, and we can remove many technical assumptions that were required in our previous work in order to reformulate Kato's main conjecture in terms of cotorsion Selmer groups and bounded p-adic L-functions.

Iwasawa Theory for Modular Forms at Supersingular Primes

We generalise works of Kobayashi to give a formulation of the Iwasawa main conjecture for modular forms at supersingular primes. In particular, we give analogous definitions of even and odd Coleman maps for normalised new forms of arbitrary weights and relate Pollack's $p$-adic $L$-functions to the even and odd Selmer groups. In addition, by generalising works of Pollack and Rubin on CM elliptic curves, we prove the "main conjecture" for CM modular forms.
