RLWE and PLWE over cyclotomic fields are not equivalent

We prove that the Ring Learning With Errors (RLWE) and the Polynomial Learning With Errors (PLWE) problems over the cyclotomic field $\mathbb{Q}(ζ_n)$ are not equivalent. Precisely, we show that reducing one problem to the other increases the noise by a factor that is more than polynomial in $n$. We do so by providing a lower bound, holding for infinitely many positive integers $n$, for the condition number of the Vandermonde matrix of the $n$th cyclotomic polynomial.

Special subsets of addresses for blockchains using the secp256k1 curve

In 2020 Sala, Sogiorno and Taufer have been able to find the private keys of some Bitcoin addresses, thus being able to spend the cryptocurrency linked to them. This result was unexpected, since the recovery of non-trivial private keys for blockchain addresses is deemed to be an infeasible problem. In this paper we widen this analysis by mounting a similar attack to other small subsets of the set of private keys. We then apply it to other blockchains as well, examining Ethereum, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Dash, Zcash and Bitcoin Cash. In addition to the results, we also explain the techniques we have used to perform this exhaustive search for all the addresses that have ever appeared in these blockchains.

The structure of homogeneous Riemannian manifolds with nullity

We find new conditions that the existence of nullity of the curvature tensor of an irreducible homogeneous space $M=G/H$ imposes on the Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ of $G$ and on the Lie algebra $\tilde{\mathfrak g}$ of the full isometry group of $M$. Namely, we prove that there exists a transvection of $M$ in the direction of any element of the nullity, possibly by enlarging the presentation group $G$. Moreover, we prove that these transvections generate an abelian ideal of $\tilde{\mathfrak g}$. These results constitute a substantial improvement on the structure theory developed in \cite{DOV}. In addition we construct examples of homogeneous Riemannian spaces with non-trivial nullity, where $G$ is a non-solvable group, answering a natural open question. Such examples admit (locally homogeneous) compact quotients. In the case of co-nullity $3$ we give an explicit description of the isometry group of any homogeneouslocally irreducible Riemannian manifold with nullity.

A note on cyclotomic polynomials and Linear Feedback Shift Registers

Linear Feedback Shift Registers (LFRS) are tools commonly used in cryptography in many different context, for example as pseudo-random numbers generators. In this paper we characterize LFRS with certain symmetry properties. Related to this question we also classify polynomials f of degree n satisfying the property that if a is a root of f then $f(a^n)=0$. The classification heavily depends on the choice of the fields of coefficients of the polynomial; we consider the cases $K=\mathbb{F}_p$ and $K=\mathbb{Q}$.

Homogeneous Riemannian manifolds with non-trivial nullity

We develop a general theory for irreducible homogeneous spaces $M= G/H$, in relation to the nullity $ν$ of their curvature tensor. We construct natural invariant (different and increasing) distributions associated with the nullity, that give a deep insight of such spaces. In particular, there must exist an order-two transvection, not in the nullity, with null Jacobi operator. This fact was very important for finding out the first homogeneous examples with non-trivial nullity, i.e. where the nullity distribution is not parallel. Moreover, we construct irreducible examples of conullity $k=3$, the smallest possible, in any dimension. None of our examples admit a quotient of finite volume. We also proved that $H$ is trivial and $G$ is solvable if $k=3$. Another of our main results is that the leaves of the nullity are closed (we used a rather delicate argument). This implies that $M$ is a Euclidean affine bundle over the quotient by the leaves of $ν$. Moreover, we prove that $ν^\perp$ defines a metric connection on this bundle with transitive holonomy or, equivalently, $ν^\perp$ is completely non-integrable (this is not in general true for an arbitrary autoparallel and flat invariant distribution). We also found some general obstruction for the existence of non-trivial nullity: e.g., if $G$ is reductive (in particular, if $M$ is compact), or if $G$ is two-step nilpotent.

Point-groups over singular cubics

In this paper, we highlight that the point group structure of elliptic curves over finite or infinite fields, may be also observed on singular cubics with a quadratic component. Starting from this, we are able to introduce in a very general way a group's structure over any kind of conics. In the case of conics over finite fields, we see that the point group is cyclic and lies on the quadric; the straight line component plays a role which may be not explicitly visible in the algebraic description of point composition, but it is indispensable in the geometric description. Moreover, some applications to cryptography are described, considering convenient parametrizations of the conics. Finally, we perform an evaluation of the complexity of the operations involved in the parametric groups and consequently in the cryptographic applications.

Non-Kähler complex structures on $R^4$ II

We follow our study of non-Kähler complex structures on $R^4$ that we defined in a previous paper. We prove that these complex surfaces do not admit any smooth complex compactification. Moreover, we give an explicit description of their meromorphic functions. We also prove that the Picard groups of these complex surfaces are uncountable, and give an explicit description of the canonical bundle. Finally, we show that any connected non-compact oriented 4-manifold admits complex structures without Kähler metrics.

On embeddings of almost complex manifolds in almost complex Euclidean spaces

We prove that any compact almost complex manifold $(M, J)$ of real dimension $2m$ admits a pseudo-holomorphic embedding in a Euclidean space of dimension $4m + 2$, endowed with a suitable non-standard almost complex structure. Moreover, we give a necessary and sufficient condition, expressed in terms of the Segre class of $(M, J)$, for the existence of an embedding or an immersion in an almost complex Euclidean $4m$-space. We also discuss the pseudo-holomorphic embeddings of an almost complex 4-manifold in $R^6$.

Minimal helix submanifolds and Minimal Riemannian foliations

We investigate minimal helix submanifolds of any dimension and codimension immersed in Euclidean space. Our main result proves that a ruled minimal helix submanifold is a cylinder. As an application we classify complex helix submanifolds of $\mathbb{C}^n$: They are extrinsic products with a complex line as a factor. The key tool is Corollary 1.3 which allows us to classify Riemannian foliations of open subsets of the Euclidean space with minimal leaves. Finally, we consider the case of a helix hypersurface with constant mean curvature and prove that it is either a cylinder or an open part of a hyperplane.

Normal holonomy of CR submanifolds

We study the normal holonomy group, i.e. the holonomy group of the normal connection, of a CR-submanifold of a complex space form. We complete the local classification of normal holonomies for complex submanifolds. We show that the normal holonomy group of a coisotropic submanifold acts as the holonomy representation of a Riemannian symmetric space. In case of a totally real submanifold we give two results about reduction of codimension. We describe explicitly the action of the normal holonomy in the case in which the totally real submanifold is contained in a totally real totally geodesic submanifold. In such a case we prove the compactness of the normal holonomy group.

On the extendability of parallel sections of linear connections

Let $π:E\to M$ be a vector bundle over a simply connected manifold and $\nabla$ a linear connection in $π$. Let $σ: U \rightarrow E$ be a $\nabla$-parallel section of $π$ defined on a connected open subset $U$ of $M$. We give sufficient conditions on $U$ in order to extend $σ$ to the whole $M$. We mainly concentrate to the case when $M$ is a $2$-dimensional simply connected manifold.

Conformal holonomy, symmetric spaces, and skew symmetric torsion

We consider the question: can the isotropy representation of an irreducible pseudo-Riemannian symmetric space be realized as a conformal holonomy group? Using recent results of Cap, Gover and Hammerl, we study the representations of SO(2,1), PSU(2,1) and PSp(2,1) as isotropy groups of irreducible symmetric spaces of signature (3,2), (4,4) and (6,8), respectively, describing the geometry induced by a conformal holonomy reduction to the corresponding subgroups. In the case of SO(2,1) we show that conformal manifolds with such a holonomy reduction are always locally conformally flat and hence this group cannot be a conformal holonomy group. This result completes the classification of irreducible conformal holonomy groups in Lorentzian signature. In the case of PSU(2,1), we show that conformal manifolds of signature (3,3) with this holonomy reduction carry, on an open dense subset, a canonical nearly para-Kaehler metric with positive Einstein constant. For PSp(2,1) we also show that there is an open dense subset endowed with a canonical Einstein metric in the conformal class. As a result, after restricting to an open dense subset the conformal holonomy must be a proper subgroup of PSU(2,1) or of PSp(2,1), respectively. Finally, using a recent result of Graham and Willse we prove the following general non-existence result: for a real-analytic, odd-dimensional conformal manifold, the conformal holonomy group can never be given by the isotropy representation of an irreducible pseudo-Riemannian symmetric space unless the isotropy is SO(p+1,q+1).

Killing vector fields of constant length on compact hypersurfaces

We show that if a compact hypersurface $M \subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$, $n \geq3$, admits a non zero Killing vector field $X$ of constant length then $n$ is even and $M$ is diffeomorphic to the unit hypersphere of $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$. Actually, we show that $M$ is a complex ellipsoid in $\mathbb{C}^{N} = \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$. As an application we give a simpler proof of a recent theorem due to S. Deshmukh \cite{De12}.

Quasi-Kähler Chern-flat manifolds and complex 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras

The study of quasi-Kähler Chern-flat almost Hermitian manifolds is strictly related to the study of anti-bi-invariant almost complex Lie algebras. In the present paper we show that quasi-Kähler Chern-flat almost Hermitian structures on compact manifolds are in correspondence to complex parallelisable Hermitian structures satisfying the second Gray identity. From an algebraic point of view this correspondence reads as a natural correspondence between anti-bi-invariant almost complex structures on Lie algebras to bi-invariant complex structures. Some natural algebraic problems are approached and some exotic examples are carefully described.

Surfaces in $mathbb{R}^4$ with constant principal angles with respect to a plane

We study surfaces in $\R^4$ whose tangent spaces have constant principal angles with respect to a plane. Using a PDE we prove the existence of surfaces with arbitrary constant principal angles. The existence of such surfaces turns out to be equivalent to the existence of a special local symplectomorphism of $\R^2$. We classify all surfaces with one principal angle equal to 0 and observe that they can be constructed as the union of normal holonomy tubes. We also classify the complete constant angles surfaces in $\R^4$ with respect to a plane. They turn out to be extrinsic products. We characterize which surfaces with constant principal angles are compositions in the sense of Dajczer-Do Carmo. Finally, we classify surfaces with constant principal angles contained in a sphere and those with parallel mean curvature vector field.

Kaehler immersions of homogeneous Kaehler manifolds into complex space forms

In this paper we study the homogeneous Kaehler manifolds (h.K.m.) which can be Kaehler immersed into finite or infinite dimensional complex space forms. On one hand we completely classify the h.K.m. which can be Kaehler immersed into a finite or infinite dimensional complex Euclidean or hyperbolic space. Moreover, we extend known results about Kaehler immersions into the finite dimensional complex projective space to the infinite dimensional setting.

Complex submanifolds of almost complex Euclidean spaces

We prove that a compact Riemann surface can be realized as a pseudo-holomorphic curve of $(\mathbb{R}^4,J)$, for some almost complex structure $J$ if and only if it is an elliptic curve. Furthermore we show that any (almost) complex $2n$-torus can be holomorphically embedded in $(\mathbb{R}^{4n},J)$ for a suitable almost complex structure $J$. This allows us to embed any compact Riemann surface in some almost complex Euclidean space and to show many explicit examples of almost complex structure in $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$ which can not be tamed by any symplectic form.

Connected subgroups of SO(2,n) acting irreducibly on $\R^{2,n}$

We classify all connected subgroups of SO(2,n) that act irreducibly on $\R^{2,n}$. Apart from $SO_0(2,n)$ itself these are $U(1,n/2)$, $SU(1,n/2)$, if $n$ even, $S^1\cdot SO(1,n/2)$ if $n$ even and $n\ge 2$, and $SO_0(1,2)$ for $n=3$. Our proof is based on the Karpelevich Theorem and uses the classification of totally geodesic submanifolds of complex hyperbolic space and of the Lie ball. As an application we obtain a list of possible irreducible holonomy groups of Lorentzian conformal structures, namely $SO_0(2,n)$, SU(1,n), and $SO_0(1,2)$.

Gray identities, canonical connection and integrability

We characterize quasi Kähler manifolds whose curvature tensor associated to the canonical Hermitian connection satisfies the first Bianchi identity. This condition is related with the third Gray identity and in the almost Kähler case implies the integrability. Our main tool is the existence of generalized holomorphic frames introduced by the second author previously. By using such frames we also give a simpler and shorter proof of a Theorem of Goldberg. Furthermore we study almost Hermitian structures having the curvature tensor associated to the canonical Hermitian connection equal to zero. We show some explicit examples of quasi Kähler structures on the Iwasawa manifold having the Hermitian curvature vanishing and the Riemann curvature tensor satisfying the second Gray identity.

Quasi-Kähler manifolds with trivial Chern Holonomy

In this paper we study almost complex manifolds admitting a quasi-Kähler Chern-flat metric (Chern-flat means that the holonomy of the Chern connection is trivial). We prove that in the compact case such manifolds are all nilmanifolds. Some partial classification results are established and we prove that a quasi-Kähler Chern-flat structure can be tamed by a symplectic form if and only if the ambient space is isomorphic to a flat torus.

Irreducibly acting subgroups of $Gl(n,\rr)$

In this note we prove the following three algebraic facts which have applications in the theory of holonomy groups and homogeneous spaces: Any irreducibly acting connected subgroup $G \subset Gl(n,\rr)$ is closed. Moreover, if $G$ admits an invariant bilinear form of Lorentzian signature, $G$ is maximal, i.e. it is conjugated to $SO(1,n-1)_0$. Finally we calculate the vector space of $G$-invariant symmetric bilinear forms, show that it is at most 3-dimensional, and determine the maximal stabilizers for each dimension.
