Multiple Target Tracking and Filtering using Bayesian Diabatic Quantum Annealing

In this paper, we present a hybrid quantum/classical algorithm to solve an NP-hard combinatorial problem called the multiple target data association (MTDA) and tracking problem. We use diabatic quantum annealing (DQA) to enumerate the low energy, or high probability, feasible assignments, and we use a classical computer to find the Bayesian expected mean track estimate by summing over these assignments. We demonstrate our hybrid quantum/classical approach on a simple example. This may be the first demonstration of a Bayesian hybrid quantum-classical multiple target tracking filter. We contrast our DQA method with the adiabatic quantum computing (AQC) approach to MTDA. We give a theoretical overview of DQA and characterize some of the technical limitations of using quantum annealers in this novel diabatic modality.

Euclidean Black Saddles and AdS$_4$ Black Holes

We find new asymptotically locally AdS$_4$ Euclidean supersymmetric solutions of the STU model in four-dimensional gauged supergravity. These "black saddles" have an $S^1\times Σ_{\mathfrak{g}}$ boundary at asymptotic infinity and cap off smoothly in the interior. The solutions can be uplifted to eleven dimensions and are holographically dual to the topologically twisted ABJM theory on $S^1\times Σ_{\mathfrak{g}}$. We show explicitly that the on-shell action of the black saddle solutions agrees exactly with the topologically twisted index of the ABJM theory in the planar limit for general values of the magnetic fluxes, flavor fugacities, and real masses. This agreement relies on a careful holographic renormalization analysis combined with a novel UV/IR holographic relation between supergravity parameters and field theory sources. The Euclidean black saddle solution space contains special points that can be Wick-rotated to regular Lorentzian supergravity backgrounds that correspond to the well-known supersymmetric dyonic AdS$_4$ black holes in the STU model.

Probing Black Hole Microstate Evolution with Networks and Random Walks

We model black hole microstates and quantum tunneling transitions between them with networks and simulate their time evolution using well-established tools in network theory. In particular, we consider two models based on Bena-Warner three-charge multi-centered microstates and one model based on the D1-D5 system; we use network theory methods to determine how many centers (or D1-D5 string strands) we expect to see in a typical late-time state. We find three distinct possible phases in parameter space for the late-time behaviour of these networks, which we call ergodic, trapped, and amplified, depending on the relative importance and connectedness of microstates. We analyze in detail how these different phases of late-time behavior are related to the underlying physics of the black hole microstates. Our results indicate that the expected properties of microstates at late times cannot always be determined simply by entropic arguments; typicality is instead a highly non-trivial, emergent property of the full Hilbert space of microstates.

A One-Loop Test of the near-AdS$_2$/near-CFT$_1$ Correspondence

We analyze quantum fluctuations around black hole solutions to the Jackiw-Teitelboim model. We use harmonic analysis on Euclidean AdS$_2$ to show that the logarithmic corrections to the partition function are determined entirely by quadratic holomorphic differentials, even when conformal symmetry is broken and harmonic modes are no longer true zero modes. Our quantum-corrected partition function agrees precisely with the SYK result. We argue that our effective quantum field theory methods and results generalize to other theories of two-dimensional dilaton gravity.

Kerr-Newman Black Holes with String Corrections

We study $\mathcal{N}=2$ supergravity with higher-derivative corrections that preserve the $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetry and show that Kerr-Newman black holes are solutions to these theories. Modifications of the black hole entropy due to the higher derivatives are universal and apply even in the BPS and Schwarzschild limits. Our solutions and their entropy are greatly simplified by supersymmetry of the theory even though the black holes generally do not preserve any of the supersymmetry.

Universal Corrections to Black Hole Entropy in $\mathcal{N} \geq 2$ Supergravity

We embed general solutions to 4D Einstein-Maxwell theory into $\mathcal{N} \geq 2$ supergravity and study quadratic fluctuations of the supergravity fields around the background. We compute one-loop quantum corrections for all fields and show that the $c$-anomaly vanishes for complete $\mathcal{N}=2$ multiplets. Logarithmic corrections to the entropy of Kerr-Newman black holes are therefore universal and independent of black hole parameters.
