Interacting bosons in a triple well: Preface of many-body quantum chaos

Systems of interacting bosons in triple-well potentials are of significant theoretical and experimental interest. They are explored in contexts that range from quantum phase transitions and quantum dynamics to semiclassical analysis. Here, we systematically investigate the onset of quantum chaos in a triple-well model that moves away from integrability as its potential gets tilted. Even in its deepest chaotic regime, the system presents features reminiscent of integrability. Our studies are based on level spacing distribution and spectral form factor, structure of the eigenstates, diagonal and off-diagonal elements of observables in relationship to the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis. With only three sites, the system's eigenstates are at the brink of becoming fully chaotic and thus show distributions other than Gaussian, which resonates with the results for the observables.

Dynamics of spin and density fluctuations in strongly interacting few-body systems

The decoupling of spin and density dynamics is a remarkable feature of quantum one-dimensional many-body systems. In a few-body regime, however, little is known about this phenomenon. To address this problem, we study the time evolution of a small system of strongly interacting fermions after a sudden change in the trapping geometry. We show that, even at the few-body level, the excitation spectrum of this system presents separate signatures of spin and density dynamics. Moreover, we describe the effect of considering additional internal states with SU(N) symmetry, which ultimately leads to the vanishing of spin excitations in a completely balanced system.

Quantum critical behavior and thermodynamics of the repulsive one-dimensional Hubbard model in a magnetic field

Even though the Hubbard model is one of the most fundamental models of highly correlated electrons, analytical and numerical data describing its thermodynamics at nonzero magnetization are relatively scarce. We present a detailed investigation of the thermodynamic properties for the one dimensional repulsive Hubbard model in the presence of an arbitrary magnetic field for all values of the filling fraction and temperatures as low as $T \sim 0.005\, t.$ Our analysis is based on the system of integral equations derived in the quantum transfer matrix framework. We determine the critical exponents of the quantum phase transitions and also provide analytical derivations for some of the universal functions characterizing the thermodynamics in the vicinities of the quantum critical points. Extensive numerical data for the specific heat, susceptibility, compressibility, and entropy are reported. The experimentally relevant double occupancy presents an interesting doubly nonmonotonic temperature dependence at intermediate values of the interaction strength and also at large repulsion and magnetic fields close to the critical value. The susceptibility in zero magnetic field has a logarithmic singularity at low temperatures for all filling factors similar to the behavior of the same quantity in the XXX spin chain. We determine the density profiles for a harmonically trapped system and show that while the total density profile seems to depend mainly on the value of chemical potential at the center of the trap the distribution of phases in the inhomogeneous system changes dramatically as we increase the magnetic field.

State transfer in an inhomogeneous spin chain

We present an analytical study of state transfer in a spin chain in the presence of an inhomogeneous set of exchange coefficients. We initially consider the homogeneous case and describe a method to obtain the energy spectrum of the system. Under certain conditions, the state transfer time can be predicted by taking into account the energy gap between the two lowest energy eigenstates. We then generalize our approach to the inhomogeneous case and show that including a barrier in the chain can lead to a reduction of the state transfer time. We additionally extend our analysis to the case of multiple barriers. These advances may contribute to the understanding of spin transfer dynamics in long chains where connections between neighboring spins can be manipulated.

Bethe Ansatz and exact form factors of the O(N) Gross Neveu-model

We apply previous results on the O(N) Bethe Ansatz [1 to 3] to construct a general form factor formula for the O(N) Gross-Neveu model. We examine this formula for several operators, such as the energy momentum, the spin-field and the current. We also compare these results with the 1/N expansion of this model and obtain full agreement. We discuss bound state form factors, in particular for the three particle form factor of the field. In addition for the two particle case we prove a recursion relation for the K-functions of the higher level Bethe Ansatz.

Bethe states for the two-site Bose-Hubbard model: a binomial approach

We calculate explicitly the Bethe vectors states by the algebraic Bethe ansatz method with the $gl(2)$-invariant $R$-matrix for the two-site Bose-Hubbard model. Using a binomial expansion of the n-th power of a sum of two operators we get and solve a recursion equation. We calculate the scalar product and the norm of the Bethe vectors states. The form factors of the imbalance current operator are also computed.

Contact and Structure Factor for Bosonic and Fermionic Mixtures

We study measurable quantities of bosonic and fermionic mixtures on a one-dimensional ring. These few-body ensembles consist of majority atoms obeying certain statistics (Fermi or Bose) and an impurity atom in a different hyperfine state. The repulsive interactions between majority-impurity and majority-majority are varied from weak to strong. We show that the majority-impurity repulsion is mainly responsible for the loss of coherence in the strongly interacting regime. The momentum distribution follows the $\mathcal{C}/p^4$ universal behaviour for the high momentum tail, but the contact $\mathcal{C}$ is strongly dependent on the strength of the majority-impurity and in a different way on the majority-majority interactions. The static structure factor of the majority atoms exposes a low-momentum peak for strong majority-impurity repulsion, which is attributed to an effective attraction not expected for purely repulsive forces.

Yang-Baxter integrable models in experiments: from condensed matter to ultracold atoms

The Yang-Baxter equation has long been recognised as the masterkey to integrability, providing the basis for exactly solved models which capture the fundamental physics of a number of realistic classical and quantum systems. In this article we provide an introductory overview of the impact of Yang-Baxter integrable models on experiments in condensed matter physics and ultracold atoms. A number of prominent examples are mentioned, including the hard-hexagon model, the Heisenberg spin chain, the transverse quantum Ising chain, a spin ladder model, the Lieb-Liniger Bose gas, the Gaudin-Yang Fermi gas and the two-site Bose-Hubbard model. The review concludes by pointing to some other recent developments with promise for further progress.

Trace of broken integrability in stationary correlation properties

We show that the breaking of integrability in the fundamental one-dimensional model of bosons with contact interactions has consequences on the stationary correlation properties of the system. We calculate the energies and correlation functions of the integrable Lieb-Liniger case, comparing the exact Bethe-ansatz solution with a corresponding Jastrow ansatz. Then we examine the non-integrable case of different interaction strengths between each pair of atoms by means of a variationally optimized Jastrow ansatz, proposed in analogy to the Laughlin ansatz. We show that properties of the integrable state are more stable close to the Tonks-Girardeau regime than for weak interactions. All energies and correlation functions are given in terms of explicit analytical expressions enabled by the Jastrow ansatz. We finally compare the correlations of the integrable and non-integrable cases and show that apart from symmetry breaking the behavior changes dramatically, with additional and more pronounced maxima and minima interference peaks appearing.

Exact form factors of the O(N) $σ$-model

A general form factor formula for the $O(N)σ$-model is constructed and applied to several operators. The large N limits of these form factors are computed and compared with the 1/N expansion of the $O(N)σ$-model in terms of Feynman graphs and full agreement is found. In particular, O(3) and O(4) form factors are discussed. For the $O(3)σ$-model several low particle form factors are calculated explicitly.

Exactly solvable models and ultracold Fermi gases

Exactly solvable models of ultracold Fermi gases are reviewed via their thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz solution. Analytical and numerical results are obtained for the thermodynamics and ground state properties of two- and three-component one-dimensional attractive fermions with population imbalance. New results for the universal finite temperature corrections are given for the two-component model. For the three-component model, numerical solution of the dressed energy equations confirm that the analytical expressions for the critical fields and the resulting phase diagrams at zero temperature are highly accurate in the strong coupling regime. The results provide a precise description of the quantum phases and universal thermodynamics which are applicable to experiments with cold fermionic atoms confined to one-dimensional tubes.

Quantum phase transitions in an interacting atom-molecule boson model

We study the quantum phase transitions of a model that describes the interconversion of interacting bosonic atoms and molecules. Using a classical analysis, we identify a threshold coupling line separating a molecular phase and a mixed phase. Through studies of the energy gap, von Neumann entanglement entropy, and fidelity, we give evidence that this line is associated to a boundary line in the ground-state phase diagram of the quantum system.

Emergent quantum phases in a heteronuclear molecular Bose--Einstein condensate model

We study a three-mode Hamiltonian modelling a heteronuclear molecular Bose--Einstein condensate. Two modes are associated with two distinguishable atomic constituents, which can combine to form a molecule represented by the third mode. Beginning with a semi-classical analogue of the model, we conduct an analysis to determine the phase space fixed points of the system. Bifurcations of the fixed points naturally separate the coupling parameter space into different regions. Two distinct scenarios are found, dependent on whether the imbalance between the number operators for the atomic modes is zero or non-zero. This result suggests the ground-state properties of the model exhibit an unusual sensitivity on the atomic imbalance. We then test this finding for the quantum mechanical model. Specifically we use Bethe ansatz methods, ground-state expectation values, the character of the quantum dynamics, and ground-state wavefunction overlaps to clarify the nature of the ground-state phases. The character of the transition is smoothed due to quantum fluctuations, but we may nonetheless identify the emergence of a quantum phase boundary in the limit of zero atomic imbalance.

Integrability and exact solution for coupled BCS systems associated with the $su(4)$ Lie algebra

We introduce an integrable model for two coupled BCS systems through a solution of the Yang-Baxter equation associated with the Lie algebra $su(4)$. By employing the algebraic Bethe ansatz, we determine the exact solution for the energy spectrum. An asymptotic analysis is conducted to determine the leading terms in the ground state energy, the gap and some one point correlation functions at zero temperature.
