Interplay between spacetime curvature, speed of light and quantum deformations of relativistic symmetries

Recent work showed that $κ$-deformations can describe the quantum deformation of several relativistic models that have been proposed in the context of quantum gravity phenomenology. Starting from the Poincaré algebra of special-relativistic symmetries, one can toggle the curvature parameter $Λ$, the Planck scale quantum deformation parameter $κ$ and the speed of light parameter $c$ to move to the well-studied $κ$-Poincaré algebra, the (quantum) (A)dS algebra, the (quantum) Galilei and Carroll algebras and their curved versions. In this review, we survey the properties and relations of these algebras of relativistic symmetries and their associated noncommutative spacetimes, emphasizing the nontrivial effects of interplay between curvature, quantum deformation and speed of light parameters.

The noncommutative space of light-like worldlines

The noncommutative space of light-like worldlines that is covariant under the light-like (or null-plane) $κ$-deformation of the (3+1) Poincaré group is fully constructed as the quantization of the corresponding Poisson homogeneous space of null geodesics. This new noncommutative space of geodesics is five-dimensional, and turns out to be defined as a quadratic algebra that can be mapped to a non-central extension of the direct sum of two Heisenberg-Weyl algebras whose noncommutative parameter is just the Planck scale parameter $κ^{-1}$. Moreover, it is shown that the usual time-like $κ$-deformation of the Poincaré group does not allow the construction of the Poisson homogeneous space of light-like worldlines. Therefore, the most natural choice in order to model the propagation of massless particles on a quantum Minkowski spacetime seems to be provided by the light-like $κ$-deformation.

Fuzzy worldlines with $κ$-Poincaré symmetries

A novel approach to study the properties of models with quantum-deformed relativistic symmetries relies on a noncommutative space of worldlines rather than the usual noncommutative spacetime. In this setting, spacetime can be reconstructed as the set of events, that are identified as the crossing of different worldlines. We lay down the basis for this construction for the $κ$-Poincaré model, analyzing the fuzzy properties of $κ$-deformed time-like worldlines and the resulting fuzziness of the reconstructed events.

Generalized noncommutative Snyder spaces and projective geometry

Given a group of kinematical symmetry generators, one can construct a compatible noncommutative spacetime and deformed phase space by means of projective geometry. This was the main idea behind the very first model of noncommutative spacetime, proposed by H.S. Snyder in 1947. In this framework, spacetime coordinates are the translation generators over a manifold that is symmetric under the required generators, while momenta are projective coordinates on such a manifold. In these proceedings we review the construction of Euclidean and Lorentzian noncommutative Snyder spaces and investigate the freedom left by this construction in the choice of the physical momenta, because of different available choices of projective coordinates. In particular, we derive a quasi-canonical structure for both the Euclidean and Lorentzian Snyder noncommutative models such that their phase space algebra is diagonal although no longer quadratic.

Hamiltonian structure of compartmental epidemiological models

Any epidemiological compartmental model with constant population is shown to be a Hamiltonian dynamical system in which the total population plays the role of the Hamiltonian function. Moreover, some particular cases within this large class of models are shown to be bi-Hamiltonian. New interacting compartmental models among different populations, which are endowed with a Hamiltonian structure, are introduced. The Poisson structures underlying the Hamiltonian description of all these dynamical systems are explicitly presented, and their associated Casimir functions are shown to provide an efficient tool in order to find exact analytical solutions for epidemiological models, such as the ones describing the dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The $κ$-Newtonian and $κ$-Carrollian algebras and their noncommutative spacetimes

We derive the non-relativistic $c\to\infty$ and ultra-relativistic $c\to 0$ limits of the $κ$-deformed symmetries and corresponding spacetime in (3+1) dimensions, with and without a cosmological constant. We apply the theory of Lie bialgebra contractions to the Poisson version of the $κ$-(A)dS quantum algebra, and quantize the resulting contracted Poisson-Hopf algebras, thus giving rise to the $κ$-deformation of the Newtonian (Newton-Hooke and Galilei) and Carrollian (Para-Poincaré, Para-Euclidean and Carroll) quantum symmetries, including their deformed quadratic Casimir operators. The corresponding $κ$-Newtonian and $κ$-Carrollian noncommutative spacetimes are also obtained as the non-relativistic and ultra-relativistic limits of the $κ$-(A)dS noncommutative spacetime. These constructions allow us to analyze the non-trivial interplay between the quantum deformation parameter $κ$, the curvature parameter $η$ and the speed of light parameter $c$.

Global versus local superintegrability of nonlinear oscillators

Liouville (super)integrability of a Hamiltonian system of differential equations is based on the existence of globally well-defined constants of the motion, while Lie point symmetries provide a local approach to conserved integrals. Therefore, it seems natural to investigate in which sense Lie point symmetries can be used to provide information concerning the superintegrability of a given Hamiltonian system. The two-dimensional oscillator and the central force problem are used as benchmark examples to show that the relationship between standard Lie point symmetries and superintegrability is neither straightforward nor universal. In general, it turns out that superintegrability is not related to either the size or the structure of the algebra of variational dynamical symmetries. Nevertheless, all of the first integrals for a given Hamiltonian system can be obtained through an extension of the standard point symmetry method, which is applied to a superintegrable nonlinear oscillator describing the motion of a particle on a space with non-constant curvature and spherical symmetry.

Quantum groups, non-commutative Lorentzian spacetimes and curved momentum spaces

The essential features of a quantum group deformation of classical symmetries of General Relativity in the case with non-vanishing cosmological constant $Λ$ are presented. We fully describe (anti-)de Sitter non-commutative spacetimes and curved momentum spaces in (1+1) and (2+1) dimensions arising from the $κ$-deformed quantum group symmetries. These non-commutative spacetimes are introduced semiclassically by means of a canonical Poisson structure, the Sklyanin bracket, depending on the classical $r$-matrix defining the $κ$-deformation, while curved momentum spaces are defined as orbits generated by the $κ$-dual of the Hopf algebra of quantum symmetries. Throughout this construction we use kinematical coordinates, in terms of which the physical interpretation becomes more transparent, and the cosmological constant $Λ$ is included as an explicit parameter whose $Λ\rightarrow 0$ limit provides the Minkowskian case. The generalization of these results to the physically relevant (3+1)-dimensional deformation is also commented.

Integrable deformations of Rössler and Lorenz systems from Poisson-Lie groups

A method to construct integrable deformations of Hamiltonian systems of ODEs endowed with Lie-Poisson symmetries is proposed by considering Poisson-Lie groups as deformations of Lie-Poisson (co)algebras. Moreover, the underlying Lie-Poisson symmetry of the initial system of ODEs is used to construct integrable coupled systems, whose integrable deformations can be obtained through the construction of the appropriate Poisson-Lie groups that deform the initial symmetry. The approach is applied in order to construct integrable deformations of both uncoupled and coupled versions of certain integrable types of Rössler and Lorenz systems. It is worth stressing that such deformations are of non-polynomial type since they are obtained through an exponentiation process that gives rise to the Poisson-Lie group from its infinitesimal Lie bialgebra structure. The full deformation procedure is essentially algorithmic and can be computerized to a large extent.

The anisotropic oscillator on curved spaces: A new exactly solvable model

We present a new exactly solvable (classical and quantum) model that can be interpreted as the generalization to the two-dimensional sphere and to the hyperbolic space of the two-dimensional anisotropic oscillator with any pair of frequencies $ω_x$ and $ω_y$. The new curved Hamiltonian ${H}_κ$ depends on the curvature $κ$ of the underlying space as a deformation/contraction parameter, and the Liouville integrability of ${H}_κ$ relies on its separability in terms of geodesic parallel coordinates, which generalize the Cartesian coordinates of the plane. Moreover, the system is shown to be superintegrable for commensurate frequencies $ω_x: ω_y$, thus mimicking the behaviour of the flat Euclidean case, which is always recovered in the $κ\to 0$ limit. The additional constant of motion in the commensurate case is, as expected, of higher-order in the momenta and can be explicitly deduced by performing the classical factorization of the Hamiltonian. The known $1:1$ and $2:1$ anisotropic curved oscillators are recovered as particular cases of ${H}_κ$, meanwhile all the remaining $ω_x: ω_y$ curved oscillators define new superintegrable systems. Furthermore, the quantum Hamiltonian $\hat {H}_κ$ is fully constructed and studied by following a quantum factorization approach. In the case of commensurate frequencies, the Hamiltonian $\hat {H}_κ$ turns out to be quantum superintegrable and leads to a new exactly solvable quantum model. Its corresponding spectrum, that exhibits a maximal degeneracy, is explicitly given as an analytical deformation of the Euclidean eigenvalues in terms of both the curvature $κ$ and the Planck constant $\hbar$. In fact, such spectrum is obtained as a composition of two one-dimensional (either trigonometric or hyperbolic) Pösch-Teller set of eigenvalues.

A curved Henon-Heiles system and its integrable perturbations

The constant curvature analogue on the two-dimensional sphere and the hyperbolic space of the integrable Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}$ given by $$ \mathcal{H}=\dfrac{1}{2}(p_{1}^{2}+p_{2}^{2})+ Ω\left(q_{1}^{2}+ 4 q_{2}^{2}\right) +α\left(q_{1}^{2}q_{2}+2 q_{2}^{3}\right), $$ where $Ω$ and $α$ are real constants, is revisited. The resulting integrable curved Hamiltonian, $\mathcal{H}_κ$, depends on a parameter $κ$ which is just the curvature of the underlying space and allows one to recover $\mathcal{H}$ under the smooth flat/Euclidean limit $κ\to 0$. This system can be regarded as an integrable cubic perturbation of a specific curved $1:2$ anisotropic oscillator, which was already known in the literature. The Ramani-Dorizzi-Grammaticos (RDG) series of potentials associated to $\mathcal{H}_κ$ is fully constructed, and corresponds to the curved integrable analogues of homogeneous polynomial perturbations of $\mathcal{H}$ that are separable in parabolic coordinates. Integrable perturbations of $\mathcal{H}_κ$ are also fully presented, and they can be regarded as the curved counterpart of integrable rational perturbations of the Euclidean Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}$. It will be explicitly shown that the latter perturbations can be understood as the "negative index" counterpart of the curved RDG series of potentials. Furthermore, it is shown that the integrability of the curved Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}_κ$ is preserved under the simultaneous addition of curved analogues of "positive" and "negative" families of RDG potentials.

preprint2015arXiv

An integrable Henon-Heiles system on the sphere and the hyperbolic plane

We construct a constant curvature analogue on the two-dimensional sphere ${\mathbf S}^2$ and the hyperbolic space ${\mathbf H}^2$ of the integrable Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}$ given by $$ \mathcal{H}=\dfrac{1}{2}(p_{1}^{2}+p_{2}^{2})+ Ω\left( q_{1}^{2}+ 4 q_{2}^{2}\right) +α\left( q_{1}^{2}q_{2}+2 q_{2}^{3}\right) , $$ where $Ω$ and $α$ are real constants. The curved integrable Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}_κ$ so obtained depends on a parameter $κ$ which is just the curvature of the underlying space, and is such that the Euclidean Hénon-Heiles system $\mathcal{H}$ is smoothly obtained in the zero-curvature limit $κ\to 0$. On the other hand, the Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}_κ$ that we propose can be regarded as an integrable perturbation of a known curved integrable $1:2$ anisotropic oscillator. We stress that in order to obtain the curved Hénon-Heiles Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}_κ$, the preservation of the full integrability structure of the flat Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}$ under the deformation generated by the curvature will be imposed. In particular, the existence of a curved analogue of the full Ramani-Dorizzi-Grammaticos (RDG) series $\cal{V}_{n}$ of integrable polynomial potentials, in which the flat Hénon-Heiles potential can be embedded, will be essential in our construction. Such infinite family of curved RDG potentials $\cal{V}_{κ, n} $ on ${\mathbf S}^2$ and ${\mathbf H}^2$ will be also explicitly presented.

The classical Darboux III oscillator: factorization, Spectrum Generating Algebra and solution to the equations of motion

In a recent paper the so-called Spectrum Generating Algebra (SGA) technique has been applied to the N-dimensional Taub-NUT system, a maximally superintegrable Hamiltonian system which can be interpreted as a one-parameter deformation of the Kepler-Coulomb system. Such a Hamiltonian is associated to a specific Bertrand space of non-constant curvature. The SGA procedure unveils the symmetry algebra underlying the Hamiltonian system and, moreover, enables one to solve the equations of motion. Here we will follow the same path to tackle the Darboux III system, another maximally superintegrable system, which can indeed be viewed as a natural deformation of the isotropic harmonic oscillator where the flat Euclidean space is again replaced by another space of non-constant curvature.

Towards (3+1) gravity through Drinfel'd doubles with cosmological constant

We present the generalisation to (3+1) dimensions of a quantum deformation of the (2+1) (Anti)-de Sitter and Poincaré Lie algebras that is compatible with the conditions imposed by the Chern-Simons formulation of (2+1) gravity. Since such compatibility is automatically fulfilled by deformations coming from Drinfel'd double structures, we believe said structures are worth being analysed also in the (3+1) scenario as a possible guiding principle towards the description of (3+1) gravity. To this aim, a canonical classical $r$-matrix arising from a Drinfel'd double structure for the three (3+1) Lorentzian algebras is obtained. This $r$-matrix turns out to be a twisted version of the one corresponding to the (3+1) $κ$-deformation, and the main properties of its associated noncommutative spacetime are analysed. In particular, it is shown that this new quantum spacetime is not isomorphic to the $κ$-Minkowski one, and that the isotropy of the quantum space coordinates can be preserved through a suitable change of basis of the quantum algebra generators. Throughout the paper the cosmological constant appears as an explicit parameter, thus allowing the (flat) Poincaré limit to be straightforwardly obtained.

A (2+1) non-commutative Drinfel'd double spacetime with cosmological constant

We show that the Drinfel'd double associated to the standard quantum deformation $sl_η(2,R)$ is isomorphic to the (2+1)-dimensional AdS algebra with the initial deformation parameter $η$ related to the cosmological constant $Λ=-η^2$. This gives rise to a generalisation of a non-commutative Minkowski spacetime that arises as a consequence of the quantum double symmetry of (2+1) gravity to non-vanishing cosmological constant. The properties of the AdS quantum double that generalises this symmetry to the case $Λ\neq 0$ are sketched, and it is shown that the new non-commutative AdS spacetime is a nonlinear $Λ$-deformation of the Minkowskian one.

A new integrable anisotropic oscillator on the two-dimensional sphere and the hyperbolic plane

A new integrable generalization to the 2D sphere $S^2$ and to the hyperbolic space $H^2$ of the 2D Euclidean anisotropic oscillator Hamiltonian with Rosochatius (centrifugal) terms is presented, and its curved integral of the motion is shown to be quadratic in the momenta. In order to construct such a new integrable Hamiltonian $H_κ$, we will make use of a group theoretical approach in which the curvature $κ$ of the underlying space will be treated as an additional (contraction) parameter, and we will make extensive use of projective coordinates and their associated phase spaces. It turns out that when the oscillator parameters $Ω_1$ and $Ω_2$ are such that $Ω_2=4Ω_1$, the system turns out to be the well-known superintegrable 1:2 oscillator on $S^2$ and $H^2$. Nevertheless, numerical integration of the trajectories of $H_κ$ suggests that for other values of the parameters $Ω_1$ and $Ω_2$ the system is not superintegrable. In this way, we support the conjecture that for each commensurate (and thus superintegrable) $m:n$ Euclidean oscillator there exists a two-parametric family of curved integrable (but not superintegrable) oscillators that turns out to be superintegrable only when the parameters are tuned to the $m:n$ commensurability condition.

An exactly solvable deformation of the Coulomb problem associated with the Taub-NUT metric

In this paper we quantize the $N$-dimensional classical Hamiltonian system $H= \frac{|q|}{2(η+ |q|)} p^2-\frac{k}{η+|q|}$, that can be regarded as a deformation of the Coulomb problem with coupling constant $k$, that it is smoothly recovered in the limit $η\to 0$. Moreover, the kinetic energy term in $H$ is just the one corresponding to an $N$-dimensional Taub-NUT space, a fact that makes this system relevant from a geometric viewpoint. Since the Hamiltonian $H$ is known to be maximally superintegrable, we propose a quantization prescription that preserves such superintegrability in the quantum mechanical setting. We show that, to this end, one must choose as the kinetic part of the Hamiltonian the conformal Laplacian of the underlying Riemannian manifold, which combines the usual Laplace-Beltrami operator on the Taub-NUT manifold and a multiple of its scalar curvature. As a consequence, we obtain a novel exactly solvable deformation of the quantum Coulomb problem, whose spectrum is computed in closed form for positive values of $η$ and $k$, and showing that the well-known maximal degeneracy of the flat system is preserved in the deformed case. Several interesting algebraic and physical features of this new exactly solvable quantum system are analysed, and the quantization problem for negative values of $η$ and/or $k$ is also sketched.

Exactly solvable deformations of the oscillator and Coulomb systems and their generalization

We present two maximally superintegrable Hamiltonian systems ${\cal H}_λ$ and ${\cal H}_η$ that are defined, respectively, on an $N$-dimensional spherically symmetric generalization of the Darboux surface of type III and on an $N$-dimensional Taub-NUT space. Afterwards, we show that the quantization of ${\cal H}_λ$ and ${\cal H}_η$ leads, respectively, to exactly solvable deformations (with parameters $λ$ and $η$) of the two basic quantum mechanical systems: the harmonic oscillator and the Coulomb problem. In both cases the quantization is performed in such a way that the maximal superintegrability of the classical Hamiltonian is fully preserved. In particular, we prove that this strong condition is fulfilled by applying the so-called conformal Laplace-Beltrami quantization prescription, where the conformal Laplacian operator contains the usual Laplace-Beltrami operator on the underlying manifold plus a term proportional to its scalar curvature (which in both cases has non-constant value). In this way, the eigenvalue problems for the quantum counterparts of ${\cal H}_λ$ and ${\cal H}_η$ can be rigorously solved, and it is found that their discrete spectrum is just a smooth deformation (in terms of the parameters $λ$ and $η$) of the oscillator and Coulomb spectrum, respectively. Moreover, it turns out that the maximal degeneracy of both systems is preserved under deformation. Finally, new further multiparametric generalizations of both systems that preserve their superintegrability are envisaged.

From Lorentzian to Galilean (2+1) gravity: Drinfel'd doubles, quantisation and noncommutative spacetimes

It is shown that the canonical classical $r$-matrix arising from the Drinfel'd double structure underlying the two-fold centrally extended (2+1) Galilean and Newton-Hooke Lie algebras (with either zero or non-zero cosmological constant $Λ$, respectively) originates as a well-defined non-relativistic contraction of a specific class of canonical $r$-matrices associated with the Drinfel'd double structure of the (2+1) (anti)-de Sitter Lie algebra. The full quantum group structure associated with such (2+1) Galilean and Newton-Hooke Drinfel'd doubles is presented, and the corresponding noncommutative spacetimes are shown to contain a commuting 'absolute time' coordinate ${\hat x}_0$ together with two noncommutative space coordinates $({\hat x}_1,{\hat x}_2)$, whose commutator is a function of the cosmological constant $Λ$ and of the (central) 'quantum time' coordinate ${\hat x}_0$. Thus, the Chern-Simons approach to Galilean (2+1) gravity can be consistently understood as the appropriate non-relativistic limit of the Lorentzian theory, and their associated quantum group symmetries (which do not fall into the family of so-called kappa-deformations) can also be derived from the (anti)-de Sitter quantum doubles through a well-defined quantum group contraction procedure.

A maximally superintegrable deformation of the N-dimensional quantum Kepler-Coulomb system

The $N$-dimensional quantum Hamiltonian $ \hat{H} = -\frac{\hbar^2 {|\mathbf{q} } | }{2(η+| {\mathbf{q}} |)} {\mathbf{\nabla}}^2 - \frac{k}{η+ |{\mathbf{q}} |} $ is shown to be exactly solvable for any real positive value of the parameter $η$. Algebraically, this Hamiltonian system can be regarded as a new maximally superintegrable $η$-deformation of the $N$-dimensional Kepler-Coulomb Hamiltonian while, from a geometric viewpoint, this superintegrable Hamiltonian can be interpreted as a system on an $N$-dimensional Riemannian space with nonconstant curvature. The eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the model are explicitly obtained, and the spectrum presents a hydrogen-like shape for positive values of the deformation parameter $η$ and of the coupling constant $k$.

Drinfel'd doubles for (2+1)-gravity

All possible Drinfel'd double structures for the anti-de Sitter Lie algebra so(2,2) and de Sitter Lie algebra so(3,1) in (2+1)-dimensions are explicitly constructed and analysed in terms of a kinematical basis adapted to (2+1)-gravity. Each of these structures provides in a canonical way a pairing among the (anti-)de Sitter generators, as well as a specific classical r-matrix, and the cosmological constant is included in them as a deformation parameter. It is shown that four of these structures give rise to a Drinfel'd double structure for the Poincaré algebra iso(2,1) in the limit where the cosmological constant tends to zero. We explain how these Drinfel'd double structures are adapted to (2+1)-gravity, and we show that the associated quantum groups are natural candidates for the quantum group symmetries of quantised (2+1)-gravity models and their associated non-commutative spacetimes.

On quantum deformations of (anti-)de Sitter algebras in (2+1) dimensions

Quantum deformations of (anti-)de Sitter algebras in (2+1) dimensions are revisited, and several features of these quantum structures are reviewed. In particular, the classification problem of (2+1) (A)dS Lie bialgebras is presented and the associated noncommutative quantum (A)dS spaces are also analysed. Moreover, the flat limit (or vanishing cosmological constant) of all these structures leading to (2+1) quantum Poincaré algebras and groups is simultaneously given by considering the cosmological constant as an explicit Lie algebra parameter in the (A)dS algebras. By making use of this classification, a three-parameter generalization of the κ-deformation for the (2+1) (A)dS algebras and quantum spacetimes is given. Finally, the same problem is studied in (3+1) dimensions, where a two-parameter generalization of the κ-(A)dS deformation that preserves the space isotropy is found.

Quantum algebras as quantizations of dual Poisson-Lie groups

A systematic computational approach for the explicit construction of any quantum Hopf algebra (U_z(g),Δ_z) starting from the Lie bialgebra (g,δ) that gives the first-order deformation of the coproduct map Δ_z is presented. The procedure is based on the fact that any quantum algebra can be viewed as the quantization of the unique Poisson-Lie structure (G^\ast,Λ_g) on the dual group G^\ast, which is obtained by exponentiating the Lie algebra g^\ast defined by the dual map δ^\ast. From this perspective, the coproduct for U_z(g) is just the pullback of the group law for G^\ast, and the Poisson analogues of the quantum commutation rules for U_z(g) are given by the unique Poisson-Lie structure Λ_g on G^\ast whose linearization is the Poisson analogue of the initial Lie algebra g. This approach is shown to be very useful in order to construct quantum deformations explicitly since, once a Lie bialgebra (g,δ) is given, the full dual Poisson-Lie group (G^\ast,Λ) can be obtained either by applying standard Poisson-Lie group techniques or by implementing the algorithm here presented with the aid of symbolic manipulation programs. As a consequence, the quantization of (G^\ast,Λ) will give rise to the full U_z(g) quantum algebra, provided that ordering problems are appropriately fixed. The applicability of this approach is explicitly demonstrated by constructing several instances of quantum deformations of physically relevant Lie algebras as sl(2,R), the (2+1) Anti de Sitter algebra so(2,2) and the Poincaré algebra in (3+1) dimensions.

Superintegrable quantum oscillator and Kepler-Coulomb systems on curved spaces

An overview of maximally superintegrable classical Hamitonians on spherically symmetric spaces is presented. It turns out that each of these systems can be considered either as an oscillator or as a Kepler-Coulomb Hamiltonian. We show that two possible quantization prescriptions for all these curved systems arise if we impose that superintegrability is preserved after quantization, and we prove that both possibilities are gauge equivalent.

The anisotropic oscillator on the two-dimensional sphere and the hyperbolic plane

An integrable generalization on the two-dimensional sphere S^2 and the hyperbolic plane H^2 of the Euclidean anisotropic oscillator Hamiltonian with "centrifugal" terms given by $H=1/2(p_1^2+p_2^2)+ δq_1^2+(δ+ Ω)q_2^2 +\frac{λ_1}{q_1^2}+\frac{λ_2}{q_2^2}$ is presented. The resulting generalized Hamiltonian H_κ depends explicitly on the constant Gaussian curvature κ of the underlying space, in such a way that all the results here presented hold simultaneously for S^2 (κ>0), H^2 (κ<0) and E^2 (κ=0). Moreover, H_κ is explicitly shown to be integrable for any values of the parameters δ, Ω, λ_1 and λ_2. Therefore, H_κ can also be interpreted as an anisotropic generalization of the curved Higgs oscillator, that is recovered as the isotropic limit Ω=0 of H_κ. Furthermore, numerical integration of some of the trajectories for H_κ are worked out and the dynamical features arising from the introduction of a curved background are highlighted. The superintegrability issue for H_κ is discussed by focusing on the value Ω=3δ, which is one of the cases for which the Euclidean Hamiltonian H is known to be superintegrable (the 1:2 oscillator). We show numerically that for Ω=3δ the curved Hamiltonian H_κ presents nonperiodic bounded trajectories, which seems to indicate that H_κ provides a non-superintegrable generalization of H. We compare this result with a previously known superintegrable curved analogue H'_κ of the 1:2 Euclidean oscillator showing that the Ω=3δ specialization of H_κ does not coincide with H'_κ. Finally, the geometrical interpretation of the curved "centrifugal" terms appearing in H_κ is also discussed in detail.

Classification of real three-dimensional Poisson-Lie groups

All real three dimensional Poisson-Lie groups are explicitly constructed and fully classified under group automorphisms by making use of their one-to-one correspondence with the complete classification of real three-dimensional Lie bialgebras given in [X. Gomez, J. Math. Phys. vol. 41, p. 4939 (2000)]. Many of these 3D Poisson-Lie groups are non-coboundary structures, whose Poisson brackets are given here for the first time. Casimir functions for all three-dimensional PL groups are given, and some features of several PL structures are commented.

Non-coboundary Poisson-Lie structures on the book group

All possible Poisson-Lie (PL) structures on the 3D real Lie group generated by a dilation and two commuting translations are obtained. Its classification is fully performed by relating these PL groups with the corresponding Lie bialgebra structures on the corresponding "book" Lie algebra. By construction, all these Poisson structures are quadratic Poisson-Hopf algebras for which the group multiplication is a Poisson map. In contrast to the case of simple Lie groups, it turns out that most of the PL structures on the book group are non-coboundary ones. Moreover, from the viewpoint of Poisson dynamics, the most interesting PL book structures are just some of these non-coboundaries, which are explicitly analysed. In particular, we show that the two different q-deformed Poisson versions of the sl(2,R) algebra appear as two distinguished cases in this classification, as well as the quadratic Poisson structure that underlies the integrability of a large class of 3D Lotka-Volterra equations. Finally, the quantization problem for these PL groups is sketched.

A new exactly solvable quantum model in N dimensions

An N-dimensional position-dependent mass Hamiltonian (depending on a parameter λ) formed by a curved kinetic term and an intrinsic oscillator potential is considered. It is shown that such a Hamiltonian is exactly solvable for any real positive value of the parameter λ. Algebraically, this Hamiltonian can be thought of as a new maximally superintegrable λ-deformation of the N-dimensional isotropic oscillator and, from a geometric viewpoint, this system is just the intrinsic oscillator potential on an N-dimensional hyperbolic space with nonconstant curvature. The spectrum of this model is shown to be hydrogenlike, and their eigenvalues and eigenfunctions are explicitly obtained by deforming appropriately the symmetry properties of the N-dimensional harmonic oscillator. A further generalization of this construction giving rise to new exactly solvable models is envisaged.

Integrable deformations of Lotka-Volterra systems

The Hamiltonian structure of a class of three-dimensional (3D) Lotka-Volterra (LV) equations is revisited from a novel point of view by showing that the quadratic Poisson structure underlying its integrability structure is just a real three-dimensional Poisson-Lie group. As a consequence, the Poisson coalgebra map that is given by the group multiplication provides the keystone for the explicit construction of a new family of 3N-dimensional integrable systems that, under certain constraints, contain N sets of deformed versions of the 3D LV equations. Moreover, by considering the most generic Poisson-Lie structure on this group, a new two-parametric integrable perturbation of the 3D LV system through polynomial and rational perturbation terms is explicitly found.

Quantum mechanics on spaces of nonconstant curvature: the oscillator problem and superintegrability

The full spectrum and eigenfunctions of the quantum version of a nonlinear oscillator defined on an N-dimensional space with nonconstant curvature are rigorously found. Since the underlying curved space generates a position-dependent kinetic energy, three different quantization prescriptions are worked out by imposing that the maximal superintegrability of the system has to be preserved after quantization. The relationships among these three Schroedinger problems are described in detail through appropriate similarity transformations. These three approaches are used to illustrate different features of the quantization problem on N-dimensional curved spaces or, alternatively, of position-dependent mass quantum Hamiltonians. This quantum oscillator is, to the best of our knowledge, the first example of a maximally superintegrable quantum system on an N-dimensional space with nonconstant curvature.

Superintegrable Oscillator and Kepler Systems on Spaces of Nonconstant Curvature via the Stäckel Transform

The Stäckel transform is applied to the geodesic motion on Euclidean space, through the harmonic oscillator and Kepler-Coloumb potentials, in order to obtain maximally superintegrable classical systems on N-dimensional Riemannian spaces of nonconstant curvature. By one hand, the harmonic oscillator potential leads to two families of superintegrable systems which are interpreted as an intrinsic Kepler-Coloumb system on a hyperbolic curved space and as the so-called Darboux III oscillator. On the other, the Kepler-Coloumb potential gives rise to an oscillator system on a spherical curved space as well as to the Taub-NUT oscillator. Their integrals of motion are explicitly given. The role of the (flat/curved) Fradkin tensor and Laplace-Runge-Lenz N-vector for all of these Hamiltonians is highlighted throughout the paper. The corresponding quantum maximally superintegrable systems are also presented.

Integrable Henon-Heiles Hamiltonians: a Poisson algebra approach

The three integrable two-dimensional Henon-Heiles systems and their integrable perturbations are revisited. A family of new integrable perturbations is found, and N-dimensional completely integrable generalizations of all these systems are constructed by making use of sl(2,R)+h(3) as their underlying Poisson symmetry algebra. In general, the procedure here introduced can be applied in order to obtain N-dimensional integrable generalizations of any 2D integrable potential of the form V(q_1^2, q_2), and the formalism gives the explicit form of all the integrals of the motion. Further applications of this algebraic approach in different contexts are suggested.

Integrable perturbations of the N-dimensional isotropic oscillator

Two new families of completely integrable perturbations of the N-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian are presented. Such perturbations depend on arbitrary functions and N free parameters and their integrals of motion are explicitly constructed by making use of an underlying h_6-coalgebra symmetry. Several known integrable Hamiltonians in low dimensions are obtained as particular specializations of the general results here presented. An alternative route for the integrability of all these systems is provided by a suitable canonical transformation which, in turn, opens the possibility of adding (N-1) `Rosochatius' terms that preserve the complete integrability of all these models.

New superintegrable models with position-dependent mass from Bertrand's Theorem on curved spaces

A generalized version of Bertrand's theorem on spherically symmetric curved spaces is presented. This result is based on the classification of (3+1)-dimensional (Lorentzian) Bertrand spacetimes, that gives rise to two families of Hamiltonian systems defined on certain 3-dimensional (Riemannian) spaces. These two systems are shown to be either the Kepler or the oscillator potentials on the corresponding Bertrand spaces, and both of them are maximally superintegrable. Afterwards, the relationship between such Bertrand Hamiltonians and position-dependent mass systems is explicitly established. These results are illustrated through the example of a superintegrable (nonlinear) oscillator on a Bertrand-Darboux space, whose quantization and physical features are also briefly addressed.

On two superintegrable nonlinear oscillators in N dimensions

We consider the classical superintegrable Hamiltonian system given by $H=T+U={p^2}/{2(1+λq^2)}+{ω^2 q^2}/{2(1+λq^2)}$, where U is known to be the "intrinsic" oscillator potential on the Darboux spaces of nonconstant curvature determined by the kinetic energy term T and parametrized by λ. We show that H is Stackel equivalent to the free Euclidean motion, a fact that directly provides a curved Fradkin tensor of constants of motion for H. Furthermore, we analyze in terms of λ the three different underlying manifolds whose geodesic motion is provided by T. As a consequence, we find that H comprises three different nonlinear physical models that, by constructing their radial effective potentials, are shown to be two different nonlinear oscillators and an infinite barrier potential. The quantization of these two oscillators and its connection with spherical confinement models is briefly discussed.

Three-dimensional gravity and Drinfel'd doubles: spacetimes and symmetries from quantum deformations

We show how the constant curvature spacetimes of 3d gravity and the associated symmetry algebras can be derived from a single quantum deformation of the 3d Lorentz algebra sl(2,R). We investigate the classical Drinfel'd double of a "hybrid" deformation of sl(2,R) that depends on two parameters (η,z). With an appropriate choice of basis and real structure, this Drinfel'd double agrees with the 3d anti-de Sitter algebra. The deformation parameter ηis related to the cosmological constant, while z is identified with the inverse of the speed of light and defines the signature of the metric. We generalise this result to de Sitter space, the three-sphere and 3d hyperbolic space through analytic continuation in ηand z; we also investigate the limits of vanishing ηand z, which yield the flat spacetimes (Minkowski and Euclidean spaces) and Newtonian models, respectively.

Maximal superintegrability of the generalized Kepler--Coulomb system on N-dimensional curved spaces

The superposition of the Kepler-Coulomb potential on the 3D Euclidean space with three centrifugal terms has recently been shown to be maximally superintegrable [Verrier P E and Evans N W 2008 J. Math. Phys. 49 022902] by finding an additional (hidden) integral of motion which is quartic in the momenta. In this paper we present the generalization of this result to the ND spherical, hyperbolic and Euclidean spaces by making use of a unified symmetry approach that makes use of the curvature parameter. The resulting Hamiltonian, formed by the (curved) Kepler-Coulomb potential together with N centrifugal terms, is shown to be endowed with (2N-1) functionally independent integrals of the motion: one of them is quartic and the remaining ones are quadratic. The transition from the proper Kepler-Coulomb potential, with its associated quadratic Laplace-Runge-Lenz N-vector, to the generalized system is fully described. The role of spherical, nonlinear (cubic), and coalgebra symmetries in all these systems is highlighted.

Superintegrable anharmonic oscillators on N-dimensional curved spaces

The maximal superintegrability of the intrinsic harmonic oscillator potential on N-dimensional spaces with constant curvature is revisited from the point of view of sl(2)-Poisson coalgebra symmetry. It is shown how this algebraic approach leads to a straightforward definition of a new large family of quasi-maximally superintegrable perturbations of the intrinsic oscillator on such spaces. Moreover, the generalization of this construction to those N-dimensional spaces with non-constant curvature that are endowed with sl(2)-coalgebra symmetry is presented. As the first examples of the latter class of systems, both the oscillator potential on an N-dimensional Darboux space as well as several families of its quasi-maximally superintegrable anharmonic perturbations are explicitly constructed.

Superintegrable potentials on 3D Riemannian and Lorentzian spaces with non-constant curvature

A quantum sl(2,R) coalgebra is shown to underly the construction of a large class of superintegrable potentials on 3D curved spaces, that include the non-constant curvature analogues of the spherical, hyperbolic and (anti-)de Sitter spaces. The connection and curvature tensors for these "deformed" spaces are fully studied by working on two different phase spaces. The former directly comes from a 3D symplectic realization of the deformed coalgebra, while the latter is obtained through a map leading to a spherical-type phase space. In this framework, the non-deformed limit is identified with the flat contraction leading to the Euclidean and Minkowskian spaces/potentials. The resulting Hamiltonians always admit, at least, three functionally independent constants of motion coming from the coalgebra structure. Furthermore, the intrinsic oscillator and Kepler potentials on such Riemannian and Lorentzian spaces of non-constant curvature are identified, and several examples of them are explicitly presented.

Effective su_q(2) models and polynomial algebras for fermion-boson Hamiltonians

Schematic su(2)+h3 interaction Hamiltonians, where su(2) plays the role of the pseudo-spin algebra of fermion operators and h3 is the Heisenberg algebra for bosons, are shown to be closely related to certain nonlinear models defined on a single quantum algebra q-su(2) of quasifermions. In particular, q-su(2) analogues of the Da Providencia-Schutte and extended Lipkin models are presented. The connection between q and the physical parameters of the fermion-boson system is analysed, and the integrability properties of the interaction Hamiltonians are discussed by using polynomial algebras.

Universal integrals for superintegrable systems on N-dimensional spaces of constant curvature

An infinite family of classical superintegrable Hamiltonians defined on the N-dimensional spherical, Euclidean and hyperbolic spaces are shown to have a common set of (2N-3) functionally independent constants of the motion. Among them, two different subsets of N integrals in involution (including the Hamiltonian) can always be explicitly identified. As particular cases, we recover in a straightforward way most of the superintegrability properties of the Smorodinsky-Winternitz and generalized Kepler-Coulomb systems on spaces of constant curvature and we introduce as well new classes of (quasi-maximally) superintegrable potentials on these spaces. Results here presented are a consequence of the sl(2) Poisson coalgebra symmetry of all the Hamiltonians, together with an appropriate use of the phase spaces associated to Poincare and Beltrami coordinates.

On 3+1 anti-de Sitter and de Sitter Lie bialgebras with dimensionful deformation parameters

We analyze among all possible quantum deformations of the 3+1 (anti)de Sitter algebras, so(3,2) and so(4,1), which have two specific non-deformed or primitive commuting operators: the time translation/energy generator and a rotation. We prove that under these conditions there are only two families of two-parametric (anti)de Sitter Lie bialgebras. All the deformation parameters appearing in the bialgebras are dimensionful ones and they may be related to the Planck length. Some properties conveyed by the corresponding quantum deformations (zero-curvature and non-relativistic limits, space isotropy,...) are studied and their dual (first-order) non-commutative spacetimes are also presented.

A non-commutative Minkowskian spacetime from a quantum AdS algebra

A quantum deformation of the conformal algebra of the Minkowskian spacetime in $(3+1)$ dimensions is identified with a deformation of the $(4+1)$-dimensional AdS algebra. Both Minkowskian and AdS first-order non-commutative spaces are explicitly obtained, and the former coincides with the well known $κ$-Minkowski space. Next, by working in the conformal basis, a new non-commutative Minkowskian spacetime is constructed through the full (all orders) dual quantum group spanned by deformed Poincaré and dilation symmetries. Although Lorentz invariance is lost, the resulting non-commutative spacetime is quantum group covariant, preserves space isotropy and, furthermore, can be interpreted as a generalization of the $κ$-Minkowski space in which a variable fundamental scale (Planck length) appears.

Quantum (1+1) extended Galilei algebras: from Lie bialgebras to quantum R-matrices and integrable systems

The Lie bialgebras of the (1+1) extended Galilei algebra are obtained and classified into four multiparametric families. Their quantum deformations are obtained, together with the corresponding deformed Casimir operators. For the coboundary cases quantum universal R-matrices are also given. Applications of the quantum extended Galilei algebras to classical integrable systems are explicitly developed.
