Hochschild cohomology of graded skew-gentle algebras: Gerstenhaber algebra structure and geometric interpretation

In this paper we calculate the Hochschild cohomology of graded skew-gentle algebras, together with its structure as graded commutative algebra under the cup product and its Lie algebra structure given by the Gerstenhaber bracket. One of the results of this paper is that for graded skew-gentle algebras and thus also for partially wrapped Fukaya categories of orbifold surfaces with stops, their Hochschild cohomology is encoded in the underlying graded surface.

A cup-cap duality in Koszul calculus

We introduce a cup-cap duality in the Koszul calculus of N-homogeneous algebras. As an application, we prove that the graded symmetry of the Koszul cap product is a consequence of the graded commutativity of the Koszul cup product. We propose a conceptual approach that may lead to a proof of the graded commutativity, based on derived categories in the framework of DG algebras and DG bimodules. Various enriched structures are developed in a weaker situation corresponding to N>2.

Han's conjecture for bounded extensions

Let $B\subset A$ be a left or right bounded extension of finite dimensional algebras. We use the Jacobi-Zariski long nearly exact sequence to show that $B$ satisfies Han's conjecture if and only if $A$ does, regardless if the extension splits or not. We provide conditions ensuring that an extension by arrows and relations is left or right bounded. Finally we give a structure result for extensions of an algebra given by a quiver and admissible relations, and examples of non split left or right bounded extensions.

On the Lie algebra structure of the first Hochschild cohomology of gentle algebras and Brauer graph algebras

In this paper we determine the first Hochschild homology and cohomology with different coefficients for gentle algebras and we give a geometrical interpretation of these (co)homologies using the ribbon graph of a gentle algebra as defined in earlier work by the second author. We give an explicit description of the Lie algebra structure of the first Hochschild cohomology of gentle and Brauer graph algebras (with multiplicity one) based on trivial extensions of gentle algebras and we show how the Hochschild cohomology is encoded in the Brauer graph. In particular, we show that except in one low-dimensional case, the resulting Lie algebras are all solvable.

The first Hochschild cohomology as a Lie algebra

In this paper we study sufficient conditions for the solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology of a finite dimensional algebra as a Lie algebra in terms of its Ext-quiver in arbitrary characteristic. In particular, we show that if the quiver has no parallel arrows and no loops then the first Hochschild cohomology is solvable. For quivers containing loops, we determine easily verifiable sufficient conditions for the solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology. We apply these criteria to show the solvability of the first Hochschild cohomology space for large families of algebras, namely, several families of self-injective tame algebras including all tame blocks of finite groups and some wild algebras including most quantum complete intersections.

Hochschild homology and cohomology of down-up algebras

We present a detailed computation of the cyclic and the Hochschild homology and cohomology of generic and 3-Calabi-Yau homogeneous down-up algebras. This family was defined by Benkart and Roby in their study of differential posets. Our calculations are completely explicit, by making use of the Koszul bimodule resolution and arguments similar to those used by the second and third authors for Yang-Mills algebras.

Isomorphisms of non noetherian down-up algebras

We solve the isomorphism problem for non noetherian down-up algebras $A(α,0,γ)$ by lifting isomorphisms between some of their non commutative quotients. The quotients we consider are either quantum polynomial algebras in two variables for $γ= 0$ or quantum versions of the Weyl algebra $A_1$ for non zero $γ$. In particular we obtain that no other down-up algebra is isomorphic to the monomial algebra $A(0,0,0)$. We prove in the second part of the article that this is the only monomial algebra within the family of down-up algebras. Our method uses homological invariants that determine the shape of the possible quivers and we apply the abelianization functor to complete the proof.

Behaviour of injective dimension with respect to regradings

Given a left noetherian k-algebra A graded by a group G, an injective object I in the category of G-graded A-modules and a morphism from G to another group G', we provide bounds for the injective dimension of I as a G'-graded A-module. For this, we use three change of grading functors. Most of the constructions concerning these functors work in the context of H-comodule algebras, where H is a Hopf algebra, so we develop them in this general context.

Projective resolutions of associative algebras and ambiguities

The aim of this article is to give a method to construct bimodule resolutions of associative algebras, generalizing Bardzell's well-known resolution of monomial algebras. We stress that this method leads to concrete computations, providing thus a useful tool for computing invariants associated to the algebras. We illustrate how to use it giving several examples in the last section of the article. In particular we give necessary and sufficient conditions for noetherian down-up algebras to be 3-Calabi-Yau.

On universal gradings, versal gradings and Schurian generated categories

Categories over a field $k$ can be graded by different groups in a connected way; we consider morphisms between these gradings in order to define the fundamental grading group. We prove that this group is isomorphic to the fundamental group à la Grothendieck as considered in previous papers. In case the $k$-category is Schurian generated we prove that a universal grading exists. Examples of non Schurian generated categories with universal grading, versal grading or none of them are considered.

PBW-deformations and deformations à la Gerstenhaber of N-Koszul algebras

In this article we establish an explicit link between the classical theory of deformations à la Gerstenhaber -- and a fortiori with the Hochschild cohomology-- and (weak) PBW-deformations of homogeneous algebras. Our point of view is of cohomological nature. As a consequence, we recover a theorem by R. Berger and V. Ginzburg, which gives a precise condition for a filtered algebra to satisfy the so-called PBW property, under certain assumptions.

Fundamental group of Schurian categories and the Hurewicz isomorphism

Let k be a field. We attach a CW-complex to any Schurian k-category and we prove that the fundamental group of this CW-complex is isomorphic to the intrinsic fundamental group of the k-category. This extends previous results by J.C. Bustamante. We also prove that the Hurewicz morphism from the vector space of abelian characters of the fundamental group to the first Hochschild-Mitchell cohomology vector space of the category is an isomorphism.

Hochschild and cyclic homology of Yang-Mills algebras

The aim of this article is to compute the Hochschild and cyclic homology groups of Yang-Mills algebras, that have been defined by A. Connes and M. Dubois-Violette. We proceed here the study of these algebras that we have initiated in a previous article. The computation involves the use of a spectral sequence associated to the natural filtration on the enveloping algebra of the Lie Yang-Mills algebra. This filtration in provided by a Lie ideal which is free as Lie algebra.

Galois coverings, Morita equivalence and smash extensions of categories over a field

We consider categories over a field $k$ in order to prove that smash extensions and Galois coverings with respect to a finite group coincide up to Morita equivalence of $k$-categories. For this purpose we describe processes providing Morita equivalences called contraction and expansion. We prove that composition of these processes provides any Morita equivalence, a result which is related with the karoubianisation (or idempotent completion) and additivisation of a $k$-category.
