Embeddings of metric Boolean algebras in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$

A Boolean algebra $\A$ equipped with a (finitely-additive) positive probability measure $m$ can be turned into a metric space $(\A , d_{m})$, where $d_{m}(a,b)= m ((a\wedge\neg b)\vee(\neg a\wedge b))$, for any $a,b\in A$, sometimes referred to as \emph{metric Boolean algebra}. In this paper, we study under which conditions the space of atoms of a finite metric Boolean algebra can be isometrically embedded in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$ (for a certain $N$) equipped with the Euclidean metric. In particular, we characterize the topology of the positive measures over a finite algebra $\A$ such that the metric space $(\mathsf{At}(\A), d_m)$ embeds isometrically in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$.

Equilibrium selection: a geometric approach

In this paper we propose a geometric approach to the selection of the equi- librium price. After a perturbation of the parameters, the new price is selected thorough the composition of two maps: the projection on the linearization of the equilibrium man- ifold, a method that underlies econometric modeling, and the exponential map, that associates a tangent vector with a geodesic on the manifold. As a corollary of our main result, we prove the equivalence between zero curvature and uniqueness of equilibrium in the case of an arbitrary number of goods and two consumers, thus extending the previous result by [6].

Some characterizations of the complex projective space via Ehrhart polynomials

Let $P_{λΣ_n}$ be the Ehrhart polynomial associated to an intergal multiple $λ$ of the standard symplex $Σ_n \subset \mathbb{R}^n$. In this paper we prove that if $(M, L)$ is an $n$-dimensional polarized toric manifold with associated Delzant polytope $Δ$ and Ehrhart polynomial $P_Δ$ such that $P_Δ=P_{λΣ_n}$, for some $λ\in \mathbb{Z}^+$, then $(M, L)\cong (\mathbb{C} P^n, O(λ))$ (where $O(1)$ is the hyperplane bundle on $\mathbb{C} P^n$) in the following three cases: 1. arbitrary $n$ and $λ=1$, 2. $n=2$ and $λ=3$, 3. $λ=n+1$ under the assumption that the polarization $L$ is asymptotically Chow semistable.

Kaehler Ricci solitons induced by infinite dimensional complex space forms

We exhibit families of non trivial (i.e. not Kaehler-Einstein) radial Kaehler-Ricci solitons (KRS), both complete and not complete, which can be Kaehler immersed into infinite dimensional complex space forms. This result shows that the triviality of a KRS induced by a finite dimensional complex space form proved in [12] does not hold when the ambient space is allowed to be infinite dimensional. Moreover, we show that the radial potential of a radial KRS induced by a non-elliptic complex space form is necessarily defined at the origin.

Minimal entropy and uniqueness of price equilibria in a pure exchange economy

We introduce uncertainty into a pure exchange economy and establish a connection between Shannon's differential entropy and uniqueness of price equilibria. The following conjecture is proposed under the assumption of a uniform probability distribution: entropy is minimal if and only if the price is unique for every economy. We show the validity of this conjecture for an arbitrary number of goods and two consumers and, under certain conditions, for an arbitrary number of consumers and two goods.

Extremal Kaehler metrics induced by finite or infinite dimensional complex space forms

In this paper we address the problem of studying those complex manifolds $M$ equipped with extremal metrics $g$ induced by finite or infinite dimensional complex space forms. We prove that when $g$ is assumed to be radial and the ambient space is finite dimensional then $(M, g)$ is itself a complex space form. We extend this result to the infinite dimensional setting by imposing the strongest assumption that the metric $g$ has constant scalar curvature and is well-behaved (see Definition 1 in the Introduction). Finally, we analyze the radial Kaehler-Einstein metrics induced by infinite dimensional elliptic complex space forms and we show that if such a metric is assumed to satisfy a stability condition then it is forced to have constant non-positive holomorphic sectional curvature.

Strictly regular and cscK metrics

A Kaehler metric $g$ with integral Kaehler form is said to be partially regular if the partial Bergman kernel associated to mg is a positive constant for all integer m sufficiently large. The aim of this paper is to prove that for all n\geq 2 there exists an n-complex dimensional manifold equipped with strictly partially regular and cscK metric g. Further, for n\geq 3, the (constant) scalar curvature of g can be chosen to be zero, positive or negative.

A characterization of complex space forms via Laplace operators

Inspired by the work of Z. Lu and G. Tian \cite{lutian}, in this paper we address the problem of studying those \K\ manifolds satisfying the $Δ$-property, i.e. such that on a neighborhood of each of its points the $k$-th power of the \K Laplacian is a polynomial function of the complex Euclidean Laplacian, for all positive integer $k$ (see below for its definition). We prove two results: 1. if a \K\ manifold satisfies the $Δ$-property then its curvature tensor is parallel; 2. if an Hermitian symmetric space of classical type satisfies the $Δ$-property then it is a complex space form (namely it has constant holomorphic sectional curvature). In view of these results we believe that if a complete and simply-connected \K\ manifold satisfies the $Δ$-property then it is a complex space form.

Some remarks on homogeneous Kähler manifolds

In this paper we provide a positive answer to a conjecture due to A. J. Di Scala, A. Loi, H. Hishi (see [3, Conjecture 1]) claiming that a simply-connected homogeneous Kähler manifold M endowed with an integral Kähler form $μω$, admits a holomorphic isometric immersion in the complex projective space, for a suitable $μ>0$. This result has two corollaries which extend to homogeneous Kähler manifolds the results obtained by the authors in [8] and in [12] for homogeneous bounded domains.

On the Szegö kernel of Cartan-Hartogs domains

Inspired by the work of Z. Lu and G. Tian [21] in the compact setting, in this paper we address the problem of studying the Szegö kernel of the disk bundle over a noncompact Kähler manifold. In particular we compute the Szegö kernel of the disk bundle over a Cartan-Hartogs domain based on a bounded symmetric domain. The main ingredients in our analysis are the fact that every Cartan-Hartogs domain can be viewed as an "iterated" disk bundle over its base and the the ideas given in [4] for the computation of the Szegö kernel of the disk bundle over an Herimitian symmetric space of compact type.

Maximizing torsional rigidity on Riemannian manifolds

Let $\,(M,g)\,$ be a $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifold and $\,Ω\,$ be any compact connected domain in $\,M$. We study the problem of finding the {\em maxima} of the functional $\, {\mathcal E} (Ω)\,$ (known as {\em torsional rigidity} associated to $Ω$) among all domains of prescribed volume $v$. Our results show that for a given Riemannian manifold which is strictly isoperimetric at one of its points the maximum of such functional is realized by the geodesic ball centered at this point. More generally, we prove estimates for the functional $\, {\mathcal E} (Ω)\,$ by comparison with symmetrized domains. We also investigate on finding sharp upper bounds for the functional $\, {\mathcal E} (Ω)\,$, under certain conditions on the geometry of $\,(M,g)\,$ and of $Ω$. Finally we find an universal upper bound for $\, {\mathcal E} (Ω)\,$ in terms of the isoperimetric Cheeger constant.

Symplectic capacities of Hermitian symmetric spaces

Inspired by the work of G. Lu on pseudo symplectic capacities we obtain several results on the Gromov width and the Hofer--Zehnder capacity of Hermitian symmetric spaces of compact type. Our results and proofs extend those obtained by Lu for complex Grassmannians to Hermitian symmetric spaces of compact type. We also compute the Gromov width and the Hofer--Zehnder capacity for Cartan domains and their products.

Global symplectic coordinates on gradient Kaehler-Ricci solitons

A classical result of D. McDuff asserts that a simply-connected complete Kaehler manifold $(M,g,ω)$ with non positive sectional curvature admits global symplectic coordinates through a symplectomorphism $Ψ: M\rightarrow R^{2n}$ (where $n$ is the complex dimension of $M$), satisfying the following property (proved by E. Ciriza): the image $Ψ(T)$ of any complex totally geodesic submanifold $T\subset M$ through the point $p$ such that $Ψ(p)=0$, is a complex linear subspace of $C^n \simeq R^{2n}$. The aim of this paper is to exhibit, for all positive integers $n$, examples of $n$-dimensional complete Kaehler manifolds with non-negative sectional curvature globally symplectomorphic to $R^{2n}$ through a symplectomorphism satisfying Ciriza's property.

Szego kernel, regular quantizations and spherical CR-structures

We compute the Szego kernel of the unit circle bundle of a negative line bundle dual to a regular quantum line bundle over a compact Kaehler manifold. As a corollary we provide an infinite family of smoothly bounded strictly pseudoconvex domains on complex manifolds (disk bundles over homogeneous Hodge manifolds) for which the log-terms in the Fefferman expansion of the Szego kernel vanish and which are not locally CR-equivalent to the sphere. We also give a proof of the fact that, for homogeneous Hodge manifolds, the existence of a locally spherical CR-structure on the unit circle bundle alone implies that the manifold is biholomorphic to a projective space. Our results generalize those obtained by M. Englis and G. Zhang for Hermitian symmetric spaces of compact type.

On Homothetic Balanced Metrics

In this paper we study the set of balanced metrics (in Donaldson's terminology) on a compact complex manifold M which are homothetic to a given balanced one. This question is related to various properties of the Tian-Yau-Zelditch approximation theorem for Kahler metrics. We prove that this set is finite when $M$ admits a non-positive Kahler-Einstein metric, in the case of non-homogenous toric Kaehler-Einstein manifolds of dimension $\leq 4$ and in the case of Arezzo-Pacard constant scalar curvature metrics.

Some remarks on the Kaehler geometry of LeBrun's Ricci flat metrics on C^2

In this paper we investigate the balanced condition (in the sense of Donaldson) and the existence of an Englis expansion for the LeBrun's metrics on $C^2$. Our first result shows that a LeBrun's metric on $C^2$ is never balanced unless it is the flat metric. The second one shows that an Englis expansion of the Rawnsley's function associated to a LeBrun's metric always exists, while the coefficient $a_3$ of the expansion vanishes if and only if the LeBrun's metric is indeed the flat one.

Balanced metrics on Cartan and Cartan-Hartogs domains

This paper consists of two results dealing with balanced metrics (in S. Donaldson terminology) on nonconpact complex manifolds. In the first one we describe all balanced metrics on Cartan domains. In the second one we show that the only Cartan-Hartogs domain which admits a balanced metric is the complex hyperbolic space. By combining these results with those obtained in [13] (Kaehler-Einstein submanifolds of the infinite dimensional projective space, to appear in Mathematische Annalen) we also provide the first example of complete, Kaehler-Einstein and projectively induced metric g such that $αg$ is not balanced for all $α>0$.

Kaehler immersions of homogeneous Kaehler manifolds into complex space forms

In this paper we study the homogeneous Kaehler manifolds (h.K.m.) which can be Kaehler immersed into finite or infinite dimensional complex space forms. On one hand we completely classify the h.K.m. which can be Kaehler immersed into a finite or infinite dimensional complex Euclidean or hyperbolic space. Moreover, we extend known results about Kaehler immersions into the finite dimensional complex projective space to the infinite dimensional setting.

Kaehler-Einstein submanifolds of the infinite dimensional projective space

This paper consists of two main results. In the first one we describe all Kaehler immersions of a bounded symmetric domain into the infinite dimensional complex projective space in terms of the Wallach set of the domain. In the second one we exhibit an example of complete and non-homogeneous Kaehler-Einstein metric with negative scalar curvature which admits a Kaehler immersion into the infinite dimensional complex projective space.

Partially Isometric Immersions and Free Maps

In this paper we investigate the existence of ``partially'' isometric immersions. These are maps f:M->R^q which, for a given Riemannian manifold M, are isometries on some sub-bundle H of TM. The concept of free maps, which is essential in the Nash--Gromov theory of isometric immersions, is replaced here by that of H-free maps, i.e. maps whose restriction to H is free. We prove, under suitable conditions on the dimension q of the Euclidean space, that H-free maps are generic and we provide, for the smallest possible value of q, explicit expressions for H-free maps in the following three settings: 1-dimensional distributions in R^2, Lagrangian distributions of completely integrable systems, Hamiltonian distributions of a particular kind of Poisson Bracket.

Uniqueness of balanced metrics on holomorphic vector bundles

Let $E\to M$ be a holomorphic vector bundle over a compact Kaehler manifold $(M, ω)$. We prove that if $E$ admits a $ω$-balanced metric (in X. Wang's terminology) then it is unique. This result together with a result of L. Biliotti and A. Ghigi implies the existence and uniqueness of $ω$-balanced metrics of certain direct sums of irreducible homogeneous vector bundles over rational homogeneous varieties. We finally apply our result to show the rigidity of $ω$-balanced Kaehler maps into Grassmannians.
