$K$ block set partition patterns and statistics

A set partition $σ$ of $[n]=\{1,\cdots ,n\}$ contains another set partition $ω$ if a standardized restriction of $σ$ to a subset $S\subseteq[n]$ is equivalent to $ω$. Otherwise, $σ$ avoids $ω$. Sagan and Goyt have determined the cardinality of the avoidance classes for all sets of patterns on partitions of $[3]$. Additionally, there is a bijection between the set partitions and restricted growth functions (RGFs). Wachs and White defined four fundamental statistics on those RGFs. Sagan, Dahlberg, Dorward, Gerhard, Grubb, Purcell, and Reppuhn consider the distributions of these statistics over various avoidance classes and they obtained four variate analogues of the previously cited cardinality results. They did the first thorough study of these distributions. The analogues of their many results follows for set partitions with exactly $k$ blocks for a specified positive integer $k$. These analogues are discussed in this work.

Intermediate rings of complex-valued continuous functions

Let $Σ(X,\mathbb{C})$ denote the collection of all the rings between $C^*(X,\mathbb{C})$ and $C(X,\mathbb{C})$. We show that there is a natural correlation between the absolutely convex ideals/ prime ideals/maximal ideals/$z$-ideals/$z^\circ$-ideals in the rings $P(X,\mathbb{C})$ in $Σ(X,\mathbb{C})$ and in their real-valued counterparts $P(X,\mathbb{C})\cap C(X)$. It is shown that the structure space of any such $P(X,\mathbb{C})$ is $βX$. We show that for any maximal ideal $M$ in $C(X,\mathbb{C}), C(X,\mathbb{C})/M$ is an algebraically closed field. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the ideal $C_{\mathcal{P}}(X,\mathbb{C})$ of $C(X,\mathbb{C})$ to be a prime ideal, and we examine a few special cases thereafter.

Cofinite Connectedness and Cofinite Group Actions

We have defined and established a theory of cofinite connectedness of a cofinite graph. Many of the properties of connectedness of topological spaces have analogs for cofinite connectedness. We have seen that if $G$ is a cofinite group and Gamma=Gamma(G,X) is the Cayley graph. Then Gamma can be given a suitable cofinite uniform topological structure so that $X$ generates $G$, topologically iff Gamma is cofinitely connected. Our immediate next concern is developing group actions on cofinite graphs. Defining the action of an abstract group over a cofinite graph in the most natural way we are able to characterize a unique way of uniformizing an abstract group with a cofinite structure, obtained from the cofinite structure of the graph in the underlying action, so that the aforesaid action becomes uniformly continuous.

Cofinite Graphs and their Profinite Completions

We generalize the idea of cofinite groups, due to B. Hartley. First we define cofinite spaces in general. Then, as a special situation, we study cofinite graphs and their uniform completions. The idea of constructing a cofinite graph starts with defining a uniform topological graph Gamma, in an appropriate fashion. We endow abstract graphs with uniformities corresponding to separating filter bases of equivalence relations with finitely many equivalence classes over Gamma. It is established that for any cofinite graph there exists a unique cofinite completion.

Cofinite Graphs and Groupoids and their Profinite Completions

We define cofinite graphs and cofinite groupoids in a unified way that extends the notion of cofinite groups introduced by Hartley. The common underlying structure of all these objects is that they are directed graphs endowed with a certain type of uniform structure, that we call a cofinite uniformity. We begin by exploring the fundamental theory of cofinite directed graphs in full generality. The general theory turns out to be almost completely analogous to that of cofinite groups. For instance, every cofinite directed graph has a unique completion which is a com- pact cofinite direct graph. Moreover, compact cofinite directed graphs are precisely the profinite directed graphs, i.e., projective limits of finite discrete topological directed graphs. We then apply the general theory to directed graphs with additional structure such as graphs (in the sense of Serre) and groupoids, thus leading to the notions of cofinite graphs and cofinite groupoids. Cofinite groupoids with only finitely many identities behave much the same as cofinite groups, which are the same thing as cofinite groupoids with a single identity. However the situation for cofinite groupoids with infinitely many identities is more complicated.

Coverings of Profinite Graphs

We define a covering of a profinite graph to be a projective limit of a system of covering maps of finite graphs. With this notion of covering, we develop a covering theory for profinite graphs which is in many ways analogous to the classical theory of coverings of abstract graphs. For example, it makes sense to talk about the universal cover of a profinite graph and we show that it always exists and is unique. We define the profinite fundamental group of a profinite graph and show that a connected cover of a connected profinite graph is the universal cover if and only if its profinite fundamental group is trivial.
