Euler-Poincaré formulae for positive depth Bernstein projectors

Work of Bezrukavnikov-Kazhdan-Varshavsky uses an equivariant system of trivial idempotents of Moy-Prasad groups to obtain an Euler-Poincaré formula for the r-depth Bernstein projector. Barbasch-Ciubotaru-Moy use depth-zero cuspidal representations of parahoric subgroups to decompose the Euler-Poincaré presentation of the depth-zero projector. For positive depth $r$, we establish a decomposition of the Euler-Poincaré presentation of the r-depth Bernstein projector based on a notion of associate classes of cuspidal pairs for Moy-Prasad quotients. We apply these new Euler-Poincaré presentations to the obtain decompositions of the resolutions of Schneider-Stuhler and Bestvina-Savin.

Computations with Bernstein projectors of SL(2)

For the p-adic group G=SL (2) , we present results of the computations of the sums of the Bernstein projectors of a given depth. Motivation for the computations is based on a conversation with Roger Howe in August 2013. The computations are elementary, but they provide an expansion of the delta distribution δ_{1_G} into an infinite sum of G -invariant locally integrable essentially compact distributions supported on the set of topologically unipotent elements. When these distributions are transferred, by the exponential map, to the Lie algebra, they give G -invariant distributions supported on the set of topologically nilpotent elements, whose Fourier Transforms turn out to be characteristic functions of very natural G -domains. The computations in particular rely on the SL(2) discrete series character tables computed by Sally-Shalika in 1968. This new phenomenon for general rank has also been independently noticed in recent work of Bezrukavnikov, Kazhdan, and Varshavsky.

On Existence of Generic Cusp Forms on Semisimple Algebraic Groups

In this paper we discuss the existence of certain classes of cuspidal automorphic representations having non-zero Fourier coefficients for general semisimple algebraic group $G$ defined over a number field $k$ such that its Archimedean group $G_\infty$ is not compact. When $G$ is quasi--split over $k$, we obtain a result on existence of generic cuspidal automorphic representations which generalize a result of Vign\' eras, Henniart, and Shahidi. We also discuss the existence of cuspidal automorphic forms with non--zero Fourier coefficients for congruence of subgroups of $G_\infty$.

On the Cusp Forms of Congruence Subgroups of an almost Simple Lie group

In this paper we address the issue of existence of cusp forms for almost simple Lie groups using the approach of the second author combined with local information on supercuspidal representations for $p$-adic groups known by the first author. We pay special attention to the case of $SL_M(\Bbb R)$ where we prove various existence results for principal congruence subgroups.

Dirac cohomology of one K-type representations

The smooth hermitian representations of a split reductive p-adic group whose restriction to a maximal hyperspecial compact subgroup contain a single K-type with Iwahori fixed vectors have been studied in [D. Barbasch, A. Moy, Classification of one K-type representations, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 351 (1999), no. 10, 4245-4261] in the more general setting of modules for graded affine Hecke algebras with parameters. We show that every such one K-type module has nonzero Dirac cohomology (in the sense of [D. Barbasch, D. Ciubotaru, P. Trapa, The Dirac operator for graded affine Hecke algebras, arXiv:1006.3822]), and use Dirac operator techniques to determine the semisimple part of the Langlands parameter for these modules, thus completing their classification.
