On the generalized Ramanujan conjecture over function fields

Let $G$ be a simple group over a global function field $K$, and let $π$ be a cuspidal automorphic representation of $G$. Suppose $K$ has two places $u$ and $v$ (satisfying a mild restriction on the residue field cardinality), at which the group $G$ is quasi-split, such that $π_u$ is tempered and $π_v$ is unramified and generic. We prove that $π$ is tempered at all unramified places $K_w$ at which $G$ is unramified quasi-split. The proof uses the Galois parametrization of cuspidal representations due to V. Lafforgue to relate the local Satake parameters of $π$ to Deligne's theory of Frobenius weights. The main observation is that, in view of the classification of generic unitary spherical representations, due to Barbasch and the first-named author, the theory of weights excludes generic complementary series as possible local components of $π$. This in turn determines the local Frobenius weights at all unramified places. In order to apply this observation in practice we need a result of the second-named author with Gan and Sawin on the weights of discrete series representations.

The Dunkl-Cherednik Deformation of a Howe duality

We consider the deformed versions of the classical Howe dual pairs $(O(r),\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2))$ and $(O(r),\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{p}\mathfrak{o}(2|2))$ in the context of a rational Cherednik algebra $H_c=H_c(W,\mathfrak{h})$ associated to a finite Coxeter group $W$ at the parameters $c$ and $t=1$. For the first pair, we compute the centraliser of the well-known copy of $\mathfrak{s}\cong\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{l}(2)$ inside $H_c$. For the second pair, we show that the classical copy of $\mathfrak{g}\cong\mathfrak{s}\mathfrak{p}\mathfrak{o}(2|2)$ inside the Weyl-Clifford algebra $\mathcal{W}\otimes\mathcal{C}$ deforms to a Lie superalgebra inside $H_c\otimes\mathcal{C}$ and compute its centraliser algebra. For a generic parameter $c$ such that the standard $H_c$-module is unitary, we compute the joint $((H_c)^{\mathfrak{s}},\mathfrak{s})$- and $((H_c\otimes\mathcal{C})^{\mathfrak{g}},\mathfrak{g})$-decompositions of the relevant modules.

Dirac cohomology for symplectic reflection algebras

We define uniformly the notions of Dirac operators and Dirac cohomology in the framework of the Hecke algebras introduced by Drinfeld. We generalize in this way the Dirac cohomology theory for Lusztig's graded affine Hecke algebras. We apply these constructions to the case of symplectic reflection algebras defined by Etingof-Ginzburg, particularly to rational Cherednik algebras for real or complex reflection groups with parameters t,c. As applications, we give criteria for unitarity of modules in category O and we show that the 0-fiber of the Calogero-Moser space admits a description in terms of a certain "Dirac morphism" originally defined by Vogan for representations of real semisimple Lie groups.

One-W-type modules for rational Cherednik algebra and cuspidal two-sided cells

We classify the simple modules for the rational Cherednik algebra that are irreducible when restricted to W, in the case when W is a finite Weyl group. The classification turns out to be closely related to the cuspidal two-sided cells in the sense of Lusztig. We compute the Dirac cohomology of these modules and use the tools of Dirac theory to find nontrivial relations between the cuspidal Calogero-Moser cells and the cuspidal two-sided cells.

Star operations for affine Hecke algebras

In this paper, we consider the star operations for (graded) affine Hecke algebras which preserve certain natural filtrations. We show that, up to inner conjugation, there are only two such star operations for the graded Hecke algebra: the first, denoted $\star$, corresponds to the usual star operation from reductive $p$-adic groups, and the second, denoted $\bullet$ can be regarded as the analogue of the compact star operation of a real group considered by \cite{ALTV}. We explain how the star operation $\bullet$ appears naturally in the Iwahori-spherical setting of $p$-adic groups via the endomorphism algebras of Bernstein projectives. We also prove certain results about the signature of $\bullet$-invariant forms and, in particular, about $\bullet$-unitary simple modules.

Formal degrees of unipotent discrete series representations and the exotic Fourier transform

We introduce a notion of elliptic fake degrees for unipotent elliptic representations of a semisimple p-adic group. We conjecture, and verify in some cases, that the relation between the formal degrees of unipotent discrete series representations of a semisimple p-adic group and the elliptic fake degrees is given by the exotic Fourier transform matrix introduced by Lusztig in the study of representations of finite groups of Lie type.

Ladder representations of GL(n,Q_p)

In this paper, we recover certain known results about the ladder representations of GL(n, Q_p) defined and studied by Lapid, Minguez, and Tadic. We work in the equivalent setting of graded Hecke algebra modules. Using the Arakawa-Suzuki functor from category O to graded Hecke algebra modules, we show that the determinantal formula proved by Lapid-Minguez and Tadic is a direct consequence of the BGG resolution of finite dimensional simple gl(n)-modules. We make a connection between the semisimplicity of Hecke algebra modules, unitarity with respect to a certain hermitian form, and ladder representations.

Algebraic and analytic Dirac induction for graded affine Hecke algebras

We define the algebraic Dirac induction map $\Ind_D$ for graded affine Hecke algebras. The map $\Ind_D$ is a Hecke algebra analog of the explicit realization of the Baum-Connes assembly map in the $K$-theory of the reduced $C^*$-algebra of a real reductive group using Dirac operators. The definition of $\Ind_D$ is uniform over the parameter space of the graded affine Hecke algebra. We show that the map $\Ind_D$ defines an isometric isomorphism from the space of elliptic characters of the Weyl group (relative to its reflection representation) to the space of elliptic characters of the graded affine Hecke algebra. We also study a related analytically defined global elliptic Dirac operator between unitary representations of the graded affine Hecke algebra which are realized in the spaces of sections of vector bundles associated to certain representations of the pin cover of the Weyl group. In this way we realize all irreducible discrete series modules of the Hecke algebra in the kernels (and indices) of such analytic Dirac operators. This can be viewed as a graded Hecke algebra analogue of the construction of discrete series representations for semisimple Lie groups due to Parthasarathy and Atiyah-Schmid.

Green polynomials of Weyl groups, elliptic pairings, and the extended Dirac index

We provide a direct connection between Springer theory, via Green polynomials, the irreducible representations of the pin cover $\wti W$, a certain double cover of the Weyl group $W$, and an extended Dirac operator for graded Hecke algebras. Our approach leads to a new and uniform construction of the irreducible genuine $\wti W$-characters. In the process, we give a construction of the action by an outer automorphism of the Dynkin diagram on the cohomology groups of Springer theory, and we also introduce a $q$-elliptic pairing for $W$ with respect to the reflection representation $V$. These constructions are of independent interest. The $q$-elliptic pairing is a generalization of the elliptic pairing of $W$ introduced by Reeder, and it is also related to S. Kato's notion of (graded) Kostka systems for the semidirect product $A_W=\bC[W]\ltimes S(V)$.

On characters and formal degrees of discrete series of affine Hecke algebras of classical types

We address two fundamental questions in the representation theory of affine Hecke algebras of classical types. One is an inductive algorithm to compute characters of tempered modules, and the other is the determination of the constants in the formal degrees of discrete series (in the form conjectured by Reeder \cite{Re}). The former is completely different than the Lusztig-Shoji algorithm \cite{Sh, L}, and it is more effective in a number of cases. The main idea in our proof is to introduce a new family of representations which behave like tempered modules, but for which it is easier to analyze the effect of parameter specializations. Our proof also requires a comparison of the $C^{\ast}$-theoretic results of Opdam, Delorme, Slooten, Solleveld \cite{O, DO, Sl2, OSa, OS}, and the geometric construction from \cite{K1,K2,CK}.

Dirac cohomology of one K-type representations

The smooth hermitian representations of a split reductive p-adic group whose restriction to a maximal hyperspecial compact subgroup contain a single K-type with Iwahori fixed vectors have been studied in [D. Barbasch, A. Moy, Classification of one K-type representations, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 351 (1999), no. 10, 4245-4261] in the more general setting of modules for graded affine Hecke algebras with parameters. We show that every such one K-type module has nonzero Dirac cohomology (in the sense of [D. Barbasch, D. Ciubotaru, P. Trapa, The Dirac operator for graded affine Hecke algebras, arXiv:1006.3822]), and use Dirac operator techniques to determine the semisimple part of the Langlands parameter for these modules, thus completing their classification.

Unitary equivalences for reductive p-adic groups

We establish a transfer of unitarity for a Bernstein component of the category of smooth representations of a reductive p-adic group to the associated Hecke algebra, in the framework of the theory of types, whenever the Hecke algebra is an affine Hecke algebra with geometric parameters, in the sense of Lusztig (possibly extended by a group of automorphisms of the root datum). It is known that there is a large class of such examples (detailed in the paper). As a consequence, we establish relations between the unitary duals of different groups, in the spirit of endoscopy.

Dirac cohomology for graded affine Hecke algebras

We define analogues of the Casimir and Dirac operators for graded affine Hecke algebras, and establish a version of Parthasarathy's Dirac operator inequality. We then prove a version of Vogan's Conjecture for Dirac cohomology. The formulation of the conjecture depends on a uniform geometric parametrization of spin representations of Weyl groups. Finally, we apply our results to the study of unitary representations.

Ramanujan bigraphs associated with SU(3) over a p-adic field

We use the representation theory of the quasisplit form G of SU(3) over a p-adic field to investigate whether certain quotients of the Bruhat--Tits tree associated to this form are Ramanujan bigraphs. We show that a quotient of the tree associated with G (which is a biregular bigraph) is Ramanujan if and only if G satisfies a Ramanujan type conjecture. This result is analogous to the seminal case of PGL(2) considered by Lubotzky-Phillips-Sarnak. As a consequence, the classification by Rogawski of the automorphic spectrum of U(3) implies the existence of certain infinite families of Ramanujan bigraphs.

Tempered modules in exotic Deligne-Langlands correspondence

The main purpose of this paper is to identify the tempered modules for the affine Hecke algebra of type $C_n^{(1)}$ with arbitrary, non-root of unity, unequal parameters, in the exotic Deligne-Langlands correspondence in the sense of Kato. Our classification has several applications to the Weyl group module structure of the tempered Hecke algebra modules. In particular, we provide a geometric and a combinatorial classification of discrete series which contain the sign representation of the Weyl group. This last combinatorial classification was expected from the work of Heckman-Opdam and Slooten.

Whittaker unitary dual of affine graded Hecke algebras of type E

This paper gives the classification of the Whittaker unitary dual for affine graded Hecke algebras of type E. By the Iwahori-Matsumoto involution, this is equivalent also to the classification of the spherical unitary dual for type E. This work completes the classification of the Whittaker Iwahori-spherical unitary dual, or equivalently, the spherical unitary dual, of split linear algebraic p-adic groups.
