Cyclic polynomials in Dirichlet-type Spaces of the unit bidisk

For $α\in \mathbb{R},$ we consider the scale of function spaces, namely the Dirichlet-type space $\mathcal{D}_α$ consisting of holomorphic functions on the unit bidisk $\mathbb{D}^2$, $f(z,w)=\sum_{k,l=0}^{\infty}a_{kl}z^kw^l$ such that $$\sum_{k,l=0}^{\infty}(k+l+1)^α|a_{kl}|^2 < \infty.$$ In this paper, we solve an open problem posed in \cite[Open problem~1]{Z25}, which asks whether the polynomial $2 - z_1 - z_2$ is cyclic in $\mathcal{D}_α$ for $\frac{3}{2}<α\le 2$. We provide an affirmative answer and, as a consequence, complete the characterization of cyclic polynomials in $\mathcal{D}_α$. In addition, we establish several properties of cyclic functions and present alternative proofs of some cases previously obtained by P. T. Ziarati.

Matrix Fejér-Riesz type theorem for a union of an interval and a point

The matrix Fejér-Riesz theorem characterizes positive semidefinite matrix polynomials on the real line. In the previous work of the second-named author this was extended to the characterization on arbitrary closed semialgebraic sets $K$ in $\mathbb{R}$ by using matrix quadratic modules from real algebraic geometry. In the compact case there is a denominator-free characterization, while in the non-compact case denominators are needed except when $K$ is the whole line, an unbounded interval, a union of two unbounded intervals, and it was conjectured also when $K$ is a union of an unbounded interval and a point or a union of two unbounded intervals and a point. In this paper, we confirm this conjecture by solving the truncated matrix-valued moment problem (TMMP) on a union of a bounded interval and a point. The presented technique for solving the corresponding TMMP can potentially be used to determine degree bounds in the positivity certificates for matrix polynomials on compact sets $K$.

The truncated Hamburger moment problems with gaps in the index set

In this article we solve four special cases of the truncated Hamburger moment problem (THMP) of degree $2k$ with one or two missing moments in the sequence. As corollaries we obtain, by using appropriate substitutions, the solutions to bivariate truncated moment problems of degree $2k$ for special curves. Namely, for the curves $y=x^3$ (first solved by Fialkow), $y^2=x^3$, $y=x^4$ where a certain moment of degree $2k+1$ is known and $y^3=x^4$ with a certain moment given. The main technique is the completion of the partial positive semidefinite matrix (ppsd) such that the conditions of Curto and Fialkow's solution of the THMP are satisfied. The main tools are the use of the properties of positive semidefinite Hankel matrices and a result on all completions of a ppsd matrix with one unknown entry, proved by the use of the Schur complements for $2\times 2$ and $3\times 3$ block matrices.

A local-global principle for linear dependence in enveloping algebras of Lie algebras

For every associative algebra $A$ and every class $\mathcal{C}$ of representations of $A$ the following question (related to nullstellensatz) makes sense: Characterize all tuples of elements $a_1,\ldots,a_n \in A$ such that vectors $π(a_1)v,\ldots,π(a_n)v$ are linearly dependent for every $π\in \mathcal{C}$ and every $v$ from the representation space of $π$. We answer this question in the following cases: (1) $A=U(L)$ is the enveloping algebra of a finite-dimensional complex Lie algebra $L$ and $\mathbb{C}$ is the class of all finite-dimensional representations of $A$. (2) $A=U(\mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{C}))$ and $\mathbb{C}$ is the class of all finite-dimensional irreducible representations of $A$. (3) $A=U(\mathfrak{sl}_3(\mathbb{C}))$ and $\mathbb{C}$ is the class of all finite-dimensional irreducible representations of $A$ with sufficiently high weights. In case (1) the answer is: tuples that are linearly dependent over $\mathbb{C}$ while in cases (2) and (3) the answer is: tuples that are linearly dependent over the center of $A$. Similar results have been proved before for free algebras and Weyl algebras.

Integral representations of *-representations of *-algebras

Regular normalized $B(W_1,W_2)$-valued non-negative spectral measures introduced in \cite{Zalar2014} are in one-to-one correspondence with unital $\ast$-representations $ρ:C(X,\mathbb{C})\otimes W_1 \rightarrow W_2$, where $X$ stands for a compact Hausdorff space and $W_1, W_2$ stand for von Neumann algebras. In this paper we generalize this result in two directions. The first is to $\ast$-representations of the form $ρ:\mathcal{B}\otimes W_1\rightarrow W_2$, where $\mathcal{B}$ stands for a commutative $\ast$-algebra $\mathcal{B}$, and the second is to special (not necessarily bounded) $\ast$-representations of the form $ρ:\mathcal{B}\otimes W_1\rightarrow \mathcal{L}^+(\mathcal{D})$, where $\mathcal{L}^+(\mathcal{D})$ stands for a $\ast$-algebra of special linear operators on a dense subspace $\mathcal{D}$ of a Hilbert space $\mathcal{K}$.

Matrix Fejér-Riesz theorem with gaps

The matrix Fejér-Riesz theorem characterizes positive semidefinite matrix polynomials on the real line $\mathbb{R}$. We extend a characterization to arbitrary closed semialgebraic sets $K\subseteq \mathbb{R}$ by the use of matrix preorderings from real algebraic geometry. In the compact case a denominator-free characterization exists, while in the non-compact case there are counterexamples. However, there is a weaker characterization with denominators in the non-compact case. At the end we extend the results to algebraic curves.

Non-negative spectral measures and representations of C*-algebras

Regular normalized W-valued spectral measures on a compact Hausdorff space X are in one-to-one correspondence with unital *-representations ρ:C(X)\to W, where W stands for a von Neumann algebra. In this paper we show that for every compact Hausdorff space X and every von Neumann algebras W_1,W_2 there is a one-to-one correspondence between unital *-representations ρ:C(X,W_1)\to W_2 and special B(W_1,W_2)-valued measures on X that we call non-negative spectral measures. Such measures are special cases of non-negative measures that we introduced in our previous paper in connection with moment problems for operator polynomials.
